22-12: KONTOR sound starts the summer

What a week: 14 new entries – that’s what we've had only once this current year. Now that feat comes with a lot of new releases especially from the dance floor section. Let’s call it the industries effort for starting the summer business. Let's have a look what's going on.

The number one is still occupied by Die Toten Hosen. It is the second week vor Tage wie diese (Days Like These). The biggest impact comes from US rapper Flo Rida who sees his Whistle flying to number 2 a week before the full CD is released. (Further down the list he enters the charts for second time this week as featured artist.)

The first real story (real in the meaning of explicit Germany connected) can be found at number 9. The past two issues of the charts there was a strong influence of soccer detectable. And also this week presents its soccer hit. The sales span covered by the current list starts 18th of May and ends on 24th. On 19th there was the final of the UEFA cup confronting FC Bayern München with FC Chelsea. The match was highly anticipated in German media. The music used during breaks was I Follow Rivers recorded by Swedish Lykke Li. The singer is kind of an independent star in Germany for about three years. The end of 2011 she had commercial success in Belgium, the Netherlands and France storming the Top of the charts with I Follow Rivers. Now the time has come for a bigger attention in Germany too. The single can enter the German list inside the Top 10. Probably she will pass the honour of being the most successful Swedish act next week to fresh Eurovision winner Loreen.



The hymn of Bayern München also makes a big leap inside the list and lands at number 46 although the team succumb on the penalty.


New sound coming from KONTOR starts this week. The label at this moment is the most successful dance label in Germany accounting for the big success of that style. It freshly released the compilation House Of House Vol. 15 including a whole bunch of new digital releases. Most commercially successful is German project r.i.o.. It offers the hit Party Shaker which lands inside the Top 10 by collecting everything one know from past summer hits. The rap part now comes from NICCO who so far only collaborated with Austrian Darius & Finlay. Party Shaker is the second Top 10 hit for r.i.o. after last years Turn This Club Around.



2010 was the year of Die Atzen. Three simultanous hits selling weeks and weeks. In 2011 it was a strange collaboration with NENA that kept the memories to Frauenarzt & Manny Marc alive, This year the Atzen duo releases the third album with its own style–it can make on the album list a number 16. The single taken from that collection calls Party (Ich will abgehn). I guess there is no change to the sound two years ago. Probably that’s the reason why it only can enter at number 45.



Also Swiss REMADY offers a new production. Single Ladies features known Zurich singer Manu-L and Swedish rapper J-Son. The new track starts as single download at number 50 which marks a new peak of REMADY.



Last one of the KONTOR sound: RJ Flo Rida & Qwote also can enter the charts as the only non European act of the label this week.


If you're interested in other sounds than European dancefloor you should test single number two off the album auch by die ärzte (The Doctors). It calls m+f. The letters stand for male and female and the song describes the most common rituals of how the sexes come together … a funny story at all. The single starts its chart life right after the first one left the list.




Significant rises
American Linkin Park finally has a full CD version of Burn It Down in the shelves. The track peaks in its fifth chart week at number 16 eclipsing the download only peak of four weeks ago.
Pitbull launches with Dance Again a third simultanous hit inside the Top 20. Back In Time still rises up to number 5 this week meanwhile There She Goes by Taio Cruz slightly slides to number 8. The new collaboration with JLO can enter the list at number 19. Pitbull now is the artist having most tracks inside the Top 100 in 2012–the books count 10. Last year he had nine tracks as lead or featured artist plus two tracks where he wasn’t listed but performed.
Supported by the use as background sound for a commercial Santigold can celebrate her first chart hit in Germany. Disparate Youth starts at number 26.



After full CD release in Germany Forever by Danish MEDINA takes a 89–38 leap. So far it is the third best rank MEDINA could reach in her two years long career.
One might think that tunes once very successful die in peace and never come back. This isn’t true at all as very well known Infinity shows these days. A big hit in 1990 by Guru Josh it came back in a reworked version four years ago. That version spend another 64 weeks inside the charts peaking at number 4. Now the tune was chosen as the background for MAGNUM icecream (at least in German speaking countries) including the release of new remixes by acts like DJ Antoine vs. Mad Mark, Robby Rivera, Loverush and PunX. The new mixes immediatly start inside the chart at number 48.


New German sounds
Irish Rea Garvey can be count as a German act due to the fact he lives in Germany and is very active on German TV. In autumn last year he was part of the jury for The Voice of Germany. Now he offers a new solo single with Heart Of An Enemy. It can’t continue the success of Can’t Stand The Silence and Colour Me In.




Die Hölle morgen früh (The hell tomorrow morning) by Helene Fischer finally is available on CD. As most of the fans of her are rather conservative the release causes a re-entry of the song with a new peak. Although rank 72 looks shabby at the first sight it is for the first time that Helene Fischer can launch two single hits from an album inside the sales charts. So probably this is the point where the singer turns into a maker of single hits.

More Schlager can be found new at number 96. It is Franziska who returns after three and a half years back into the sales charts. Meanwhile she released an album which also reached the charts. Heute weiß ich erst, dass ich dich liebe (Not Until Today I Know That I Love You) is her third singles chart hit and also the worst performing so far.



A German newcomer is Mark Forster. As far as the story is told he makes music as background musician for several years. Now he offers his first solo material and it needs only a little to make him the new Tim Bendzko. Auf dem Weg (On The Way) is a story about making things in life one doesn’t really want. But it is not only about lost chances, it is more about being conscious of that situation and enjoying it.





And finally back to party. Party is the topic for the VIVA’s serial Party, Bruder!. The title track comes from US based Breathe Carolina. Blackout could be a European production at all. By this it is quite strange that the track needed a full year to arrive on these shores. Blame on their label SONY that hadn’t enough balls releasing the single earlier.

06-12: TVoG still spills the charts

Michel Teló stands as the number one star with his anthem Nooosssaa! Ai Se Eu Te Pego! for a second week.

The big impacts once again are brought by The Voice of Germany. Two weeks before the final the power of the show is still unbeaten.

Bouncing back into the Top 10 and reaching a new peak at number 6 Troublemaker by Taio Cruz benefits heavily from his appearance on the show on January 27th. He opened the Live Show number 5 with all twelve contestants that were in the race back than.

Coach and juror Rea Garvey launched his new single two weeks before the final and of course he was performing the song Colour Me In on the show too. As a result the single flies to number 12–the highest rank Rea Garvey could achieve as an solo-artist ever. And the highest since his band Reamonn reached number 6 in 2008 with Through The Eyes Of A Child. Of course once he was (unofficially) credited for a number 1 hit when his voice appeared on a version of All Good Things (Come To An End) with Nelly Furtado that was available in Germany on the single CD as a bonus track.



Best performing candidate from the show was surprisingly Sharron Levy. The Israel native staged with the number 1 hit Somebody That I Used To Know turning it into an rock driven ballad that brings her a number 26. Maybe that’s the start of an career besides a big major deal.



All others from the show end further down. Kim Sanders–finally the runner’s up finalist–sets her second show entry as number 54. Empire State Of Mind (Part II) was a sleeping hit originally recorded by Alicia Keys. It reached number 35 back in 2010 and spent so far 48 weeks inside the charts. Of course that version is back in the list too. It comes in short of Kim Sanders’ take at number 58. Part I featuring JAY-Z & Alicia Keys together re-appears at 84.

Third at the end–third two weeks before the final contestant Michael Schulte seems to be one of the most constant participants on the show. He performed Video Games still at number 3 in the version of Lana Del Rey. His take can reach number 66 giving him a second chart entry.



Behnam Moghaddam was a big aspirant for the final until he performed Eleanor Rigby as an explosive rock piece which made coach Xavier Naidoo shooting him off the show. A lot of fans were shocked according to many sites and forums–commercially the take on the well known tune of The Beatles ranks at number 75–indeed a weak result for Behnam. The song itself had a hidden chart life in 1966. Officially the track was released in combination with Yellow Submarine as a double A side single in Germany too. The official charts list only Yellow Submarine although.

A very similar story can be told about Percival–the second big aspirant. He staged Beautiful on the show January 27th. The song made famous by Christina Aguilera reached number 4 in Germany in 2003. The version of Percival is much more a rough ballad. Coach Rea Garvey was not really convinced–neither was the audience. Beautiful stucks at number 77.




Best CD start without TV show support comes from Marlon Roudette. His Anti-Hero (Brave New World) was available before as digital single and now jumps 19–7 with physical sales counting.

German Deichkind is back. After the release of their last album Arbeit nervt (Work Sucks) producer Sebi Hackert died and there was a uncertainty about the further existence of the project. Fortunatly the guys decided to continue. Bück dich hoch (Stoop Up) is the pre-release from upcoming album Befehl von ganz unten (Order From Down Below) – it continues the story of Arbeit nervt forcefully. In my opinion it critisizes actual politics and financial crisis in a much smarter way than other pop products try to do. Starting its chart life at number 17 after released online the single is so far the second best performing of Deichkind and only the second to reach the Top 20. 12 years ago they managed to do so with their chart debut Bon Voyage.



Supported by the release of their twelfth album named simply Volume 12 The Disco Boys see their cover of Around The World rising to number 31.

Also the winner of Das Supertalent 2011 Leo Rojas offers an album. Spirit Of The Hawk storms the album list at number 2. Leading single Ele condor pasa (only available digitally) can enter the singles list at 82. The tune became popular in 1970 when Simon & Garfunkel added some lyrics and recorded that version. It entered the Number 1 in Germany for 7 weeks and ended as the most sold single of the year. The same year a few instrumental versions charted also–most known probably the one of Facio Santillan that reached number 9 in September 1970.



Last new entry is the new single of De Randfichten (The edge spruces). They try to get some attention in carneval season with Du kleine Fliege (You, little fly). It is a very simple song for drunken people who love singing stupid lyrics while drinking more … Number 96 is the result so far.




In The end let’s tell you about the strangest chart move of the week at last: Wiz Khalifa drops back 91–71 with his hit Black And Yellow for what reason ever. I can’t explain but I like it.

Fast List

The charts are going faster: six new entries inside the Top 20 – three of them coming from Germany . Plus new singles from Example, Snow Patrol and Rea Garvey. Latter one for sure is a German special feature cause the Irish singer is known here as leader of Reamonn who had several hits in the last years most known with Supergirl (2000) and Through The Eyes Of A Child (2008). As a solo star Rea Garvey recieved attention alongside with Jam & Spoon beginning of this century and with Paul van Dyk (end of 2007). Most common became his name for the duet with Nelly Furtado on their hit single All Good Things (Come To An End) which topped the German charts for 6 weeks at the end of 2006. He was mentioned in almost every hit list and in radio airplay although the original radio edit did not feature him at all. Neither did the official CD release. – Anyway, it made him really popular in German speaking countries.

Rea Garvey right now is back in mainstream focus as he will act as a voice coach at upcoming casting show The Voice Of Germany. A few weeks before the show starts his first solo album is in shelves: Can’t Stand The Silence from which the title song is lifted as a single and can enter number 17 in its first week on sale. It is the first real solo single that manages a chart position – so in some way one could call it a debut.



Leipzig DJ Steve Murano finally can hit the charts. He started producing around 2000 launching some club hits but never made it into airplay or real commercial success. One of his bigger hits was his take on Passion an electronic dance track from 1983 released by The Flirts what was a project of Bobby Orlando. The original single made it up to number 4 in Germany. The 2003 version only crept to number 76. It had a much more successfull run in Finland where it could gain number 20.

In 2011 people seem ready for another rework. Steve Murano took his 2003 version back on his table and edited a new Twenty Eleven version that is available since May this year. It took the track a long time to catch fire, now it enters the German sales charts for the first time at 81. The 2011 bundle includes a Rico Bernasconi-Mix also > find all mixes here

X Factor fever in Germany. Two girls (Sophie and Yvonne) calling themselves Itchy Feet sang Empire State Of Mind – a surprise for the three judges. The girls will be back at the show, Alicia Keys meanwhile did so in the German chart. Her version of the song enters at number 66 which is the 40th week inside the German list. The original recorded by JAY-Z + Alicia Keys is in the list at 97 in its 65th week.

It is given, that next Bundesvision Song Contest will have even more impact than the X Factor season. Some of the contestants are already in the charts as they are Doreen and Thees Uhlmann. Joining the club now are Glasperlenspiel at 13 and BOSSE featuring Anna Loos at 75. The latter will perform for Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) although only Axel Bosse is from there, exactly from Braunschweig. His duetting partner is known as actress and new lead singer of Silly having her home in Brandenburg. Even their song is queer in its best way as they sing about the triste Brandeburgian town Frankfurt Oder. Will they attract both the northern and the eastern audience by doing so?



Another TV-related group is JAMATAMI. The band is featured by teeny channel Toggo TV where the band appears with its diary-soap. The album made it up to number 38 in July – now a single was launched additionally. Ma-Ya-Hi is exactly what it sounds like. A cover of the O-Zone trash hit Dragostea Din Tea from 2004. Who actually needs another version of that track – I really don’t know … Ask music managers at RTLII!



A last anomaly: Irish singer enya re-enters the list with Only Time after 10th anniversary of 9/11. It was the track that was used as background for news about the terror attacks and became a huge commercial success standing six weeks at Number 1 in Germany alone. It became the signature song of the attacks and nobody really wonders that 10 years later the track can gain some new popularity.

Charts vom 24. Oktober 2008

Eine sehr deutsch dominierte Woche haben wir vorliegen. Die beiden höchsten Neueinsteiger kommen aus Deutschland, dazu zwei weitere tiefer unten. Und die wichtigsten Aufsteiger sind ebenfalls deutsche Produktionen.
Aber zunächst mal der Blick auf die Spitze, wo sich nach wie vor Internationales tummelt. Eine dritte Woche hält sich P!nk mit „So What“ auf der 1. Dahinter kehrt Amy Macdonald mit „This Is The Life“ noch einmal auf den Silberrang zurück. Nach zwei Wochen Rast auf der 3 schafft sie es nun also, Katy Perry und „I Kissed A Girl“ hinter sich zu lassen und in ihrer insgesamt 13. Chartwoche zum zweitenmal ihre Höchstposition einzunehmen. Insgesamt befindet sich der Song 12 Wochen in den Top 10, davon 7 unter den ersten 5. Mit „Mr Rock & Roll“ ist Amy Macdonald ein zweites mal in den Charts vertreten. in dieser Woche fällt sie leicht von 45 auf 54 und damit raus aus der oberen Hälfte. Da sich dieser Titel bereits 30 Wochen lang in der Liste aufhält, wird er wahrscheinlich schon bald nicht mehr notiert werden.
Auf Platz 4 machen aber schon Polarkreis 18 aus Dresden mächtig Druck. In der zweiten Woche steigt ihr Chartdebüt „Allein Allein“ von der 8 unter die ersten 5 und ich wage hier mal zu behaupten, dass sie in einer Woche mindestens einen Medaillenrang belegen. So wie sich der Song derzeit allerorten behauptet, könnten wir hier sogar mit der nächsten Nr.1 konfrontiert sein.
Das Guru Josh Project geht mit „Infinity 2008“ nach einer Woche Pause noch mal zurück auf die 5. In der 17. Woche ist der Titel dabei, davon war er 6 x in den Top 10 und in dieser Woche bereits das dritte mal auf der 5. Und damit wäre die Spitzengruppe komplett.

Der höchste Neuzugang in den Single-Charts kommt von Reamonn. Nach zwei Jahren Pause kehren sie auf Rang 8 in die deutsche Liste zurück. Zu ihrem 16. Chart-Titel "Through The Eyes Of A Child" kann ich gar nicht so viel sagen. Der Titel scheint mir recht durchschnittlich und massenkompatibel, mit einer ebenfalls nicht wahnsinnig neuen Botschaft. Wahrscheinlich ist aber genau dies auch dafür verantwortlich, dass die deutsche Band erst jetzt ihren zweiten Top 10-Hit feiern darf. Nach ihrem äußerst erfolgreichen Debüt „Supergirl“ im Jahr 2000 waren sie 14 Singles lang deutlich weniger erfolgreich. Am höchsten – nämlich bis auf die 11 – kam in dieser Zeit „Tonight“ vor zwei Jahren. Bandleader Rea Garvey stand zwischendurch allerdings schon mehrere Wochen auf der 1. An der Seite von Nelly Furtado lieferte er zum Jahreswechsel 2006/2007 mit „All Good Things (Come To An End)“ insgesamt 8 x den meistverkauften Titel. Sein letzter Aufenthalt in den Charts war Anfang diesen Jahres in Zusammenarbeit mit Paul van Dyk, dem er für „Let Go“ seine Stimme lieh. Für Rea garvey ist „Through The Eyes Of A Child“ der 20. Titel als offiziell aufgeführter Artist.

Rein in die Top 20 klettert in der zweiten Woche Sido mit „Herz“. Sein Mitwirken in der popstars-Jury kann also tatsächlich auch das Interesse an seiner Musik erhöhen. „Herz“ ist mit der Verbesserung von der 22 auf die 20 der sechste Top 20 Titel des Rappers.

Auf der 23 steigen Deichkind mit „Arbeit nervt“ ein. Ein schöner Elektro-HipHop-Mix mit einer Portion Pop-Appeal. Für mich DER Neuzugang dieser Woche. Für Deichkind ist es der nächste Anlauf zum zweiten Top 20-Titel. Bislang haben sie es nur mit ihrem Debüt „Bon Voyage“ im jahr 2000 bis auf die Position 11 geschafft. „Limit“ stoppte zwei Jahre später nochmal knapp drunter auf der 21. Momentan darf aber noch alles als offen angesehen werden, denn auch die aufgeführten Tracks legten nach ihrem Ersteintritt jeweils mindestens 10 Plätze nach oben zurück.
Zuletzt waren Deichkind gerade letzte Woche notiert mit ihrem Dauerbrenner „Remmi Demmi (Yippie Yippie Yeah)“ standen sie in Woche 18 auf der 96 (Höchstplatzierung 68 im Mai 2006).

Der dritte Neuzugang findet sich kurz drunter auf der 25. Anastacia meldet sich mit "I Can Feel You" nach zweieinhalb Jahren zurück. So richtig überzeugend ist dieses Comeback allerdings noch nicht. War sie doch zuletzt im Duett mit Eros Ramazotti und „I Belong To You (Il Ritmo Della Passione)“ bis an die Spitze vorgestoßen.
Auch nach längerer Pause wieder dabei sind Boyzone. Die irische Boygroup kehrt mit „Love You Anyway“ nach 7 Jahren zurück. Ob dieses Comeback nun als Reunion zu feiern ist oder nicht, scheint streitbar. James Masterton, Chartkommentator der britischen Top 75, meint, Boyzone hätte sich nie aufgelöst. Wie auch immer, in Großbritannien schaffen es die Jungs schon bis auf die 5, in Deutschland reicht es für einen Einstieg auf der 30.

Die 38 ist ein Rückkehrer in die obere Charthälfte. „36 Grad“ von Rhythms del Mundo und 2raumwohnung war Anfang September auf der 28 eingestiegen und danach langsam nach unten getrudelt bis auf die 76. In der letzten Woche ging es dann wieder aufwärts bis zur 70, und in dieser Woche gabs dann den Satz um 32 Plätze nach oben. Auch ohne den neuen Aufschwung ist „36 Grad“ der weitaus erfolgreichste Titel des Berliner Duos. Inklusive Remixe war der Titel seit Juli 2007 bereits 23 Wochen platziert mit Höchstposition 22. Nun kommen noch einmal 8 Wochen in der neuen Variante á la Buena Vista Social Club dazu.

Die 42 gehört Snow Patrol, die mit ihrer neuen Single „Take Back The City“ einmal mehr versuchen, dem Überflieger „Chasing Cars“ einen würdigen Nachfolger hinterher zu schicken. Denn obwohl es nach diesem bereits fünf weitere Titel als Singles gab, darunter auch das sehr überzeugende „Shut Your Eyes“, ist es immer noch „Chasing Cars“, was sich seit November 2006 immer wieder in den Charts hält, das letzte mal in der 49. Woche Anfang Oktober auf Position 90. „Take Back The City“ ist insgesamt der fünfte Titel der Band, der sich in Deutschland platzieren kann.

Auf der 48 schaffen nun auch die Kings Of Leon mit „Sex On Fire“ ihren Einstand in der oberen Charthälfte. Bereits am 26. September enterte der ehemalige Nr.1-Hit aus Großbritannien als reiner Download-Titel die deutschen Charts. Seit der letzten Woche konnten dann auch die Zahlen aus dem CD-Verkauf in die Auswertung einbezogen werden, allerdings ohne den wirklich großen Schub nach vorn, es ging lediglich von der 57 auf die 53. Aber der Titel erfreut sich wachsender Beliebtheit und es ist durchaus möglich, dass auch dieser Titel noch einiges nach oben klettern wird.

Weitere Neuzugänge in der unteren Hälfte sind Marquess mit „Lucia“ auf der 60, Lil Wayne feat. T-Pain mit „Got Money“ auf der 67, die Kaiser Chiefs mit „Never Miss A Beat“ auf der 76, Schlagersänger Nic mit „Es stegt in deinen Augen“ auf der 80 sowie Picco mit „Yeke Yeke“ auf der 100.
