June 17th 16: King Soccer Is Back

From one week to the other everything has changed. We do have a new #1 flying there from #19 thanks to an event started just a week ago. This One's For You serves as the official song for the UEFA Euro 2016 and it was promoted on the opening ceremony as well as on every single match broadcasted almost worldwide. So it was a certain thing having this song as a hit. Although Germany is only the second country where it tops the charts–that might change in some days time.

So far This One's For You sets some visible marks. The leap from #19 qualifies the song as one of the five biggest jumps to #1 of all time. By replaceing a French production it repeats the feat done by The Avener in October 2014.

David Guetta tops the charts with This One's For You for the fourth time–alone in this current decade he already had three #1 hits so he joins the likes of CRO, Rihanna, Adele and Pharrell Williams.
Singer Zara Larsson cashes in her first #1 appearance. She is the first Swedish act topping the German list since AVICII did so with Hey Brother in November 2013. Of course the DJ had another appaerance at the top a year later as a producer. But Lovers On The Sun was credited only to David Guetta Feat. Sam Martin.
As we talk bout Swedish acts it is worth mentioning the amount of productions involving Swedish people–it is indeed ten. Impressive! And still far away from the 35 productions involving US Americans.

Also #2 is a gainer due to the UEFA EM2016. 80 Millionen already had peaked at #21 so far–chosen by fans the song was kind of a secret anthem for soccer parties and singer Max Giesinger launched a slightly changed version which lyrics fit better to the sportive event. This week the song even jumps 23 ranks in its 12th chart week and gives the 4th of 2012's The Voice of Germany casting his first top hit at all.

The official song of EM broadcasting chosen by ZDF is Wir sind groß recorded by Mark Forster. The song also had a successful chart life before peaking at #9 so far. This week it rises even further and stops at #5. It is Mark Forster's fourth top 5 appearance within less than three years.

The arrival of these two songs inside the top 10 increases the number of German productions up to three which is as much as there were the whole January and the highest amount in 2016 so far. In contradiction the presence of German productions in the complete top 100 is as low as at least one year ago. Only 18 productions involving Germans are count currently. In January 2015 that amount was slightly overdone by a production which was offered by an uncredited German. It was Waves originally recorded by Mr Probz but successfully remixed by Robin Schulz.

To finish the list of soccer related gainers: the Further down also jeder für jeden by Felix Jaehn & Herbert Grönemeyer jumps 44 places to #27.


There are other gainers in the list as well although most of them have a relation to France–the host of the UEFA EM. Jumping 18 places Don't Be So Shy by Imany lands at #13. As the song is mostly sold as remix by Russian DJ duo Filatov & Karas it is also one of the rare Russian hits in Germany. The last real hit (meaning charting more than one single week) from Russia was Welcome To St. Tropez by Timati in 2011.

At #41 Willy William lands. The French singer hit already #1 in Israel with Ego, in Europe he gained Top5 in Belgium and the Netherlands. And at #70 the new single by Martin Solveig Do It Right stands in its third chart week.


Also Adele's new single rises. Send My Love (To Your New Lover) stops at #45 after jumoing 23 places.

After four years of silence culcha candela is back. The Berlin based group offers Wann dann as its come back single which enters the list indeed as highest new entry–at a very low #71. It is the second lowest "Best new entry" of 2016 so far. Only the issue February 19th had a "highest new" lower than this with Es rappelt im Karton by Pixie Paris starting chart life at #83.

May 27th 16

Justin Timberlake holds firm at #1 with Can't Stop The Feeling a second week. His two #1 hits before both had a three weeks run at the top–and right ow it looks like the new one will do the same properly.
With a rare weakness of USAmerican productions this is the most successfull one since a year. Back than it was See You Again by Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth which had a four weeks run in April/May 2015.

To #2 KUnGS vs. Cookin' on 3 Burners rises two places with This Girl. It brings the next French producer to the almost very top. The past #1 came from superstar David Guetta back at the end of 2014 with Dangerous. Australian Cookin' on 3 Burners of course does have a successful countrywoman with SIA who topped the list this April with Chep Thrills.

Climbing three places This Is What You Came For by Calvin Harris // Rihanna reaches a new peak at #5. It is the 18th top 5 hit for Rihanna and the fifth for Calvin Harris.
After resting outside the top 10 past week Don't Let Me Down by The Chainsmokers Ft. Daya returns plus reaches a new peak with #7 in its 12th chart week.

Alan Walker spends a 17th week inside the top 10 with Faded. It is now the song with most top 10 appearances in 2016.

Last statistical fact of this recent top 10. With Die immer lacht (Stereoact feat. Kerstin Ott) sitting at #10 as highest German song it is this the weakest result for Germany since one and a half year. Back in October 2014 it was Revolverheld and its Lass uns gehen that won the crown as best selling German song sitting at #10.

One song comes new into the top 20. It is this the new offer by Swedish Galantis. No Money goes 27–18 in its sixth chart week.


Gainers of the week:
+17 places landing at #36 Too Good by DRAKE Ft. Rihanna
+21 places stopping at #43 Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande after releasing her same titled album which enters the album list straight at #6. The peak of the single still is her #30 chart entry six weeks before.
Astonishing 42 places up Seiler & Speer bouncing with Ham kummst after their performance at the celebration party for the double winning Bayern München team where Thomas Müller and David Alaba joined the duo. The video became a viral hit pushing the original recording forward to #45 where it outsells their so far peak from February this year.

25th of June 2014: King Soccer Rules

After 10 weeks Andreas Bourani returns to the Top with his WM anthem Auf uns which originally wasn't an explicit sport's song. Heavy use of the song during coverage of the WM made it more or less the signature song for Germany's run to the throne.
Returning to number 1 after more than two months was an astonishing record set in January 2013 when Gangnam Style did so. The Korean hit spent almost the whole time in between at number 2–only once stepping aside for P!NK and her Try–Andreas Bourani meanwhile performed similar but once dived to number 4. Anyway this week is the 12th consecutive issue of having a German production at number 1. Such a presence wasn't seen since summer 2007 when Mark Medlock & Dieter Bohlen, Monrose, Azad & Adel Tawil and Culcha Candela occupied the top for twelve weeks.

In it's 40th chart week Atemlos durch die Nacht by Helene Fischer rises 9–5. This new demand comes due to her performance while the winning team arrived back at home.
The song now spends 30 weeks inside the German top 10 what is the second longest run of all times.

Also the official anthem We Are One (Ole Ola) by Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez & Cláudia Leitte turns the way of moving and is back at number 9.
The not so official WM song by Shakira Dare (La La La) makes an even bigger leap by jumping 21–12. It is a new peak for the song in its 17th chart week.
Further significant moves are made by:
- Tage wie diese by Die Toten Hosen (81–43)
- '54 '74 '90 2010 by Sportfreunde Stiller re-entry at 59, not yet newly recorded. The original '54 '74 '90 2006 went number 1 back than.
- We Are The Champions by QUEEN re-entry at 60, which is the first time since its original chart run in 1977/78 when it made it to number 13. Charted for more than 36 years it is one of the songs with the longest chart span and the oldest song charting in 2014 so far.
- Das dicke dicke Ding! by Mister Santos re-entry at 61, it's only the second time the song can chart
- Steh auf, mach laut! by HÖHNER new at 63
- 7 Nation Army by The White Stripes re-entry at 69; it is the highest position since summer 2010
- Schwarz und weiß by Oliver Pocher re-entry at 82
- the WM anthem from 1990 Un' estate italiana by Edoardo Bennato – Gianna Nannini re-entry at 83, making Edoardo Bennato the artist charting again after the longest absence in 2014, almost 25 years he wasn't seen inside the German list (and Un' estate italiana is indeed his one and only song charting in Germany)


Rising songs not linked to the WM are hardly to find inside this weeks list. But they are there. At number 17 for an example. Norvegian producer Martin Tungevaag is spotted by an international scene which gives his Wicked Wonderland the right boost. It is the second track from the northern country that can achieve the German Top 20.

A Canadian reggae song also is getting more attention this week. Rude by Magic! goes 96–66. Boom Clap by Charli XCX enters at 72 and Swedish Otto KNows goes 100–73 with Parachute.

18th of July 2014: Is Robin Schulz the artist of the year?

A fifth week at the top makes Prayer in C the second longest running number 1 of 2014 so far. Only Happy by Pharrell Williams performed better with eight weeks at the top.
If one count the remix of Mr Probz' Waves as a full and regular Robin Schulz entry than he is the most successful artist of the year by now collecting nine weeks at the top so far.

As the number 1 also the rest of the Top 10 is almost frozen. OneRepublic manages to climb a further place to number 3 with its Love Runs Out and Helene Fischer now spends a 29th week inside the Top 10 with her Atemlos durch die Nacht. It now matches the result of Butterfly by Daniel Gerard (1970) and A Song Of Joy by Miguel Rios (1971) which are so far the two songs with the second longest Top 10 appearance. The absolut record still stands at unbelievable 42 weeks for Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) by DJ Ötzi & Nik P. from the year 2007.

The only song new inside the Top 10 comes from British Drum'n'Bass act SIGMA that vaults four places to number 8 with their production Nobody To Love

One of the very rare significantly moving tracks is Chandelier the very first solo single charting in Germany by SIA. The track so far sneaked through the lowest ends of the list for five weeks reaching only position 81. Now with the full released album 1000 Forms Of Fear in the back the single can leap to number 44. In France the song right now reached number 1.

The second significant mover is Zuhause by Adel Tawil Featuring Matisyahu. The track was released on the album Lieder and supported as a single track by special versions performed on SWR radio. Just before every match of the German team at the FIFA WM Adel Tawil changed the lyrics and recorded the track newly. The song now jumps 96–50.

Due to the WM also the inofficial anthem of the Bundesliga (and following EM) of 2012 re-enters the list. Tage wie diese by Die Toten Hosen adds a 83rd chart week at number 81.

20th of June 2014: Robin Schulz launches the summer hit

After four weeks there is a new number one in Germany. A straight one. Again. Prayer in C is the fourth song starting its chart run direct at the Top–a feat last seen in autumn 2011.
The artist in question already had a number 1 this current year: Robin Schulz the DJ and producer right now starts becoming a superstar. His remix of a song originally recorded by French Lilly Wood & The Prick continues his remix of Mr Probz' Waves–a next deep house no.1.

With Robin Schulz at the Top German productions are most successful in 2014. It is the third song officially credited to a German artist but the fifth if one count the men behind the scenes. Compared to other years the result now matches 2012 when there were three German number 1s too but falls short of 2009 when we had four proper no.1 hits credited to German artists plus one which was penned and produced by two Germans.
For France it is the first time since 2000 that French artists/productions can climb to number 1 in Germany two years in a row.


This chart issue covers sales from 6th of June to 12th of June. It is the week when the FIFA WM started. The big anticipation can be seen as the football anthems start to perform stronger inside the list. Best performing We Are One by Pitbull Feat. Jennifer Lopez & Cláudia Leitte lands at number 7 now.
With a full CD release behind also Stefan Raab sees his song Wir kommen, um ihn zu holen flying to number 43.


With a new released version–a duet with country singer Jennifer Nettles–All Of Me by John Legend reaches a new peak. The track goes 23–18 in its 18th chart week. Anyway it is a weak performance compared to the number 1 positions the track achieved all over the world.


Every week a TV story: it is Verstehen Sie Spass that can support a song with a broad airing presence on Saturday 7th of June. Rea Garvey staged with Can't Say No and gives the single a final sales boost: 20 places better than last week means number 50.

25th of April 2014:

Rather Be by Clean Bandit Featuring Jess Glynne is Nr.1 in Germany for a third week. That gives us the fourth number 1 hit in a row that holds firm for at least three weeks. I was counting the statistics the past week already resuming that the charts somehow slow down at the moment. This week it is much more obvious due to the fact that four consecutive number 1 hits spend at least three weeks is a feat last seen in early summer 2010 when five number one hits did so. 2010 (and 2012) was the year when Germany had only 13 different songs storming the top. A result not seen since 2002 when there were only 11 number 1 hits. Seems that we whitness a longer period of slowing down after a very busy time between 2003 and 2009.
To underline this situation the Top 5 is again completely unchanged. And even the whole Top100 contains 5 new songs and 4 re-entries only. That's the lowest turnover since July 2012 when an almost three years phase of very static charts slowly ended. This might a renaissance of that time.


David Guetta still is the artist of the current decade who had the most chart entries at all. This week his summary is 611 weeks since January 1st 2010. Runner’s up Pitbull is 140 weeks behind.
The success of the French DJ Guetta is grounded on two very successful albums: One Love in 2009 and Nothing But The Beat in 2011. Both propelled a bunch of single hits into the song charts too. 11 of them going Top 10 including 6 Top 5 hits.
The upcoming album is scheduled for 2014 and for promotion the DJ offers new tracks since summer last year. Track number 3 Bad (a collaboration with Dutch Showtek) was released on April 7th midweek which propelled it to number 49 only in its first week. This issue full week’s sales count into the list giving the track a proper number 19. Well – the master still knows how to launch hits. But the real huge success still ain’t around in 2014.

Almost the same story could be told 'bout Pitbull. The past four years he was extremely successful. The duet with KE$HA Timber gave him his second number 1 in Germany. That was back in December 2013. Now he was chosen to record the official FIFA anthem for WM14 in Brazil. The track We Are One (a well working duet with Jennifer Lopez) was released on April 8th making it chart at number 72 past issue. Now with full sales the track shoots to number 20. I guess this ain't all we will see from this track. Anyway it is the best performance for JLO since summer 2012 when she hit the German Top 20 past alongside ... ehm - of course Pitbull.

Highest new entry is once again a German battle rap. The story started on a show by Sido on April 14th when entertainer and comedian Joko had an appearance as a rapper and dissing some B-level stars. A day later the answer by Eko Fresh Frauenarzt Manny Marc Bass Sultan Hengzt was digitally available. The fun is on the audience–Joko Diss enters the list at number 24.


Tracks on the rise
Still Aloe Blacc climbs up the list with I'm A Man. Number 1 in the UK, number 8 in the USA–in Germany the track stops now at number 43 which is close to the peak of his last release the solo take on Wake Me Up. An official release date as a stand alone single stilkl does not exist in Germany. Strange marketing strategy.
Another self evolving hit is All Night by Parov Stelar. The track climbs up the list as an album cut from his latest CD chosen by the audience. The latest kick for getting Electro Swing a mainstream phenomenon came by some shows the DJ had around here including one in Berlin. So far he is a star in Austria and some eastern European countries. The late success in Germany also tells a lot about dance music here in the past years.
Indila finally enters the Top 50 stopping at number 47 with Dernière Danse. Some internet sellers list the album Mini World at the very Top–the official media control charts saw it at number 35. It seems there is a gap in the way the official charts are compiled.
It was an easy bet predicting Best Day Of My Life by American Authors becoming a hit. This week the track rises 81–61, a few remixes will be released next days, the full CD single is scheduled for beginning of May.
The next deep house inspired mainstream hit comes in at number 70 in the shape of She Moves (Far Away) produced by DJ Alle Farben. The proper release is scheduled for beginning of May. His popularity already is big enough letting the track chart before. So far the DJ is best known for his Synesthesia sets played on several events and additionally released on soundcloud. The upcoming album is titled also Synesthesia.


DSDS effects
April 12th 2014 the third live show was aired. Again two tracks were propelled back in the list after they were performed on the show. The low impact they really have on the charts shows which way the format probably goes. Season 12 in spring 2015 is already scheduled anyway.
On number 58 Say Something by A Great Big World And Christina Aguilera lands. It is a new peak for the song that stalled at number 79 in January. Eisberg by Andreas Bourani also has a further appearance landing at number 66. It is exactly the same place the song had last time in November 2012.


Hallelujah very often is referred to be one of the best songs of all time. The song was written by Leonhard Cohen but the recording of Jeff Buckley became much more popular. The quality of the song and the recording did never grab the mainstream. Number 38 a year ago is all the track so far managed to reach. Mostly it can chart after a hopeful contestant staged on a casting show with the tune. So it will happen probably in next weeks time. On The Voice Kids a young duo has performed the song. But that's not all. A week before the casting show a video on youtube became a viral hit featuring a priest in a wedding ceremony singing Hallelujah. The video already collected 2 million clicks and brings the recording by Jeff Buckley back to chart honour. This week it re-enters number 76. Will it grow further this time?

26-12: Soccer Dance

Die Toten Hosen right now repeat the result of their so far greatest hit Zehn kleine Jägermeister as current hit single Tage wie diese stays for a fourth week right at the Top of Germany’s singles charts. Used by public TV ARD as the main anthem for the EURO2012 the track is heavily supported by media use. So does number 2 which comes right now from Linkin Park. Burn It Down is used by ZDF for the same reason and now is the highest ranking track of Linkin Park of all times. They reached three times number 4 so far. In 2004, in 2007 and in 2009–now the history of the band is re-written.

The current list is covering the time span 15th to 21st of June. In this time the hopes for a German championship seemed realistic. Finale wir kommen (Final we’re coming) by KAY ONE Featuring Shindy tells about that dream. It climbs 54–29. Last Thursday these hopes were smashed by the team from Italy. Probably the KAY ONE song will tumble down in two weeks time dramatically.

Rising also is the Ukrainian band Los Colorados. Its take on I Like To Move It is the second official ZDF-track for EURO2012 promotion. It now reaches the upper half of the list at number 44.


The best performing new songs are alle from the dancefloor. Highest new entry inside the German list comes from Swiss Patrick Miller. So far he is known as the voice of the rap part on recordings by Mike Candys. So far he collected two Top 20 hits within the past 9 months. Now he starts his own solo single Dancing in London. It is a dance infected tune also but falls short of the two predecessors.



The man who made Patrick Miller popular can’t make it that big. His newest offeringSunshine (Fly So High) is even outsold by predecessor 2012. It lands at number 64 so far.



The highest new entry coming from a German act is Feeling So Blue by the Michael Mind Project. It is build around the Eiffel 65 hit from 1999. Landing at number 38 in its first chart week it is the first time since four years that the Michael Mind Project can reach the upper half of the charts again. Singer Dante Thomas seems after a long long break really back in the business. It is already his second chart appearance in 2012.




What else? – Amy Macdonald’s album Life In A Beautiful Day shot to number 1 last week. This issue she has to move to number 2. Instead her single Slow It Down rises again and lands at number 39–which is a new peak for the song after seven weeks in the list.

Steadily rising is Belgian Triggerfinger’s unplugged version of I Follow Rivers. This week the song can stop at number 40. The original by Lykke Li also finds some more fans and rises 10–8 this current week, which also marks a new peak for the song.

Philipp Poisel had a big success at the beginning of this year when his song Eiserner Steg became very popular after being performed on a casting show. Now a further song from his last album gains attention. It is the last track on the album Bis nach Toulouse and it’s called Ich will nur (I Only Want To).It is a very reduced love ballad. As I found out the song isn’t released or scheduled for a proper single release. Instead of that there is a new album announced for August which will be probably partly live. Maybe it is the pre-flurry that let people purchase Ich will nur as a live version on their mp3 players. Number 43 is an impressive start.



Rising also is Reckoning Song / One Day the remix of Asaf Avidans song by Wankelmut. It is new inside the upper half at number 49.

Two years ago Menowin Fröhlich seemed to be one of the big stars of the future. Than he failed in winning the superstar casting contest only becoming the runner up. Last year he released his first single with more or less success. But the interest in the almost superstar fades away dramatically. Now his first album is announced. And almost nobody cares. The single that should tease the album lands at a low number 60. It is called Round ‘N’ Round.

I am actually wondering how often one can release the same sounding song. Marquess already does it with ¡Bienvenido! for the ninth time. Well –the success of the releases so far isdecreasing too. Number 61 for the summer single 2012.



And also Schlager old star Jürgen Drews comes with a new single. Für einen Tag (For One Day) is the newest offering landing at number 62.

Again on TV Die ultimative Chartshow. Although the survey on the most successfull synthie pop hits was aired for the 15th time one live act of the show can manage it to launch its hit again. It’s Faithless that sees its Insomnia again landing at number 79. It is the 55th chart week for the song so far and the 12th time that it re-enters the list.


And finally the song noted for the most times inside the German sales charts Sky And Sand by Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner this issue leaves the list. Last week it was noted at number 96 in its 115th chart week–now it is really out. Now the song with most chart weeks is Rolling In The Deep by Adele which sits at number 94 in its 77th week.

25-12: Soccer Fever II

There is almost only one event that impacts music consuming in Germany right now. It starts with the number 1 song. Die Toten Hosen are back on the Top after a two weeks break. It is the third week for Tage wie diese (Days like this) and the song falls only one week short of the result of their only Nr.1 hit before Zehn kleine Jägermeister from 1996. Tage wie diese first was published as the anniversary single for the band. Later it became a hymn for the Bundesliga winning Borrusia team from Dortmund. Now the song is used by public channel ARD foradvertising its broadcasting of matches. So the hiatus might take one or two weeks longer.

Also the official anthem of the EM rises eight places to number five. Finally German Oceana can launch her first Top 10 hit in her home country. Number 5 might not be the end of the fame of Endless Summer.

New soccer songs are entering the list. KAY ONE is the German rapper who really is connected with football. Two years ago he offered Fackeln im Wind and reached Top 10 status. This year it is Finale wir kommen (Final, we’re approaching). It enters the list a week before the official release on CD at number 54. So we will find it much higher in one week’s time for sure.



Matze Knop offers the next (and last for this week) soccer related fun song called Die Besten in Europa (The Best In Europe). The lyrics are about the hope of winning the championship. To ensure a little more seriousness the comedian asked sport reporter Waldi Hartmann for dueting with him. And the journalist agreed. Don’t know why. But the song stands for how reporting on the matches is going on in German media.



Other soccer related songs rise up the list.Ukrainian Los Colorados find some more friends and jumps 94–60 with I Like To Move It. Four years ago Mickie Krause had a hit called Orange trägt nur die Müllabfuhr (Only The Garbage Boys are wearing Orange). It is of course a spottlied on the Dutch soccer team that wears this colour. This year the track re-appears at number 77. Another song by Mickie Krause is in the list again too. Schatzi, schenk mir ein Foto (Honey, Give Me A Photo) is not really a soccer anthem but it is played at so called fan miles and public viewing places as well. So let’s add the upcoming summer hits to this section too. Tacatà rises slowly to number 8. So TACABRO is a Top 10 act in Germany now also. And also Gusttavo Lima rises with Balada (Tchê tcherere tchê tchê. The song reaches number 34 in its second chart week still on downlaod sales only.


Some not football related songs also can rise or start inside the list. After full release on CD Payphone by Maroon 5 Feat. Wiz Khalifa jumps into the Top 10. The song reaches number 4 in its second week in the list giving Maroon 5 there second consecutive Top 5 hit following last years number 2 song Moves Like Jagger. Wiz Khalifa with the collaboration harvests his biggest hit at all so far in Germany.


With start of the new commercial campaign for the MAGNUM Infinity Icecream on 4th of June in theatres (and on TV) the track used for it Infinity 2012 by Guru Josh (and remixed by DJ Antoine takes a 20 places leap landing inside the Top 20 for the third time in 22 years.



gossip and her singer Beth Ditto are really stars in Germany. For the final of Heidi Klum’sGermany’s Next Top Modell on July 7th the band was invited for opening the show. Of course they performed their recent hit Perfect World which rises nine places due to digital sales on thursday evening alone. Probably the song will rise much further next week when CD sales of Friday are taekn into account.

Even more impressive is the leap taken by Justin Bieber after his performance on tha final show. His song Boyfriend jumps 50–16 on downloads of a few hours. The song reaches a new peak in Germany giving him a fourth Top 20 hit.


Ivy Quainoo comes with a new single. You Got Me is the succeeder to Do You Like What You See which was the winning song for the casting show The Voice of Germany. The new song is a soulful one with a lot of power starting its chart life at number 31.




Italian band Frei•Wild is a current example of German nationalism. Most of its recordings sound simple or naive no matter if they talk about love or the relation to the home. The band also recorded an own version of the German anthem. In all its lyrics Frei•Wild celebrates the link to the country, to the German land. It is a very tricky field where the band is moving. Recent project is a charity single for a childrens village in Brixen. For recording the song 1000 Meilen, 1000 Worte (1000 miles, 1000 words) the band invited artists from all over Germany. From very different styles. Böhse Onkelz and Eisbrecher were in the studio as well as Kastelruther Spatzen and Mr. President. All together they want to collect money and help the children. The song itself anyway sounds a little scary to me.




It is a long and sad story about dubstep in German speaking countries. It really took the labels more than 5 years for react on the new sound. Kids already are addicted to it. You can here it everywhere on mp3 players, playlists, at independent radio stations. But it really needed the major use of Alex Clare’s Too Close for making the sound also a commercial phenomenon. Almost a year after its release and after topping the charts in UK the NERO single Promises can enter the lists in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Somehow this feat happened by an incident. There is no information given on a re-release or a new promotion. Probabaly it is kind of an viral effect … well, hopefully this is the start of a serial of NERO hits. Number 67 for Promises is something which can only get better.


On tour in Germany Jay Z & Kanye West finally can reach the charts with their duet Niggas In Paris. Probably the visit will be a short one. Number 90 after their staging in Frankfurt looks like.

24-12: Speed Up The Charts For The Soccer EM

A second week for Eurovision winner Loreen at Number 1 position and an almost completely static Top 10 – that’s the situation this week. But we do have 16 new entries inside the Top 100 which means the summer turnover started two weeks ago continues lower down the list. By the way: It is the week with most new entries in 2012 and 2011 at all. The last time we had 16 or more new entries is exactly two years ago. That's impressive. Could it mean that a very slow chart phase comes to an end? A reason could be the renewed chart rules ... read about it further down this text.

Let’s start our litlle flight through interesting moves and entries at the Top: The only one significant mover in the upper regions is Burn It Down by Linkin Park which jumps after full release as CD single and launch of a video 20–10. After nearly 3 years the band is back inside the German Top 10. More and more Austria and Germany establish as the market where the band is most succesfull worldwide.

The effect of having a video available is seen twice in this current list. Also Coldplay & Rihanna take a leap with Princess Of Cgina after the video is online (and on TV) since 4th of June. In its sixth chart week the single reaches the upper half for the very first time.


An European summer hit starts at number 11 as the highest new entry in the list this week. Tacatà by Italian TACABRO already is Top 10 in Denmark, France, Switzerland, Finland and Belgium. Now it starts in Germany also.




One of the big fire makers in the list is approaching EURO 2012. With the start of the event also the official anthem of this year’s championship Endless Summer by German singer Oceana catches fire. The single jumps 38–13 in its fourth chart week. In Poland the track already holds number 1. It is more than possible that we see the song climbing to the top in Germany as well in a few days. The matches are highly anticipated from the beginning of the tournament.

Public TV channel ZDF had chose another song for surrounding its reports and matches broadcasting meanwhile. Ukrainian band Los Colorados became popular by covering famous pop songs in polka style. For advertising the EM the band (or the chanel) took the song I Like To Move It by Reel 2 Real from the year 1994. It is the fifth time for the song that a version can reach the charts. Last time we heard it one year ago when Markus Becker offered his German cover which had a one week run on the survey. I guess the new version will have a slightly longer life.



And also the national football association DFB is offering an own fan song for the EM. It is Für nichts auf dieser Welt (For Nothing On This World) by Roger Cicero which can right after release on CD enter the list. So far Mr. Cicero only had once a really hit in the singles list. It was his Eurovision attempt in 2007 Frauen regiern die Welt that reached number 7.



When we speak right now about soccer and match anthems: Do you remember the big soccer hymn of the year? Nooossaa! Ai Se Eu Te Pego! is still in the charts. But we do have already a succeeder with Balada (Tchê tcherere tchê tchê) which is offered by Brazilian Gusttavo Lima. In Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy and France the single already reached the Top of thecharts. Now it is sold in Germany also. The song so far is available as download only–physical sales will count from next week’s chart on. And Brazilian star Neymar also provided a new dance ...





Let's have a look what comes new from German acts. Singer CHIMA has the honour of being the German newcomer of the week. With Morgen (Tomorrow) he is listed for the first time as an solo artist inside the charts. As member of Brothers Keepers he already know what it means of having a chart hit. In 2001 the project reached number 5 with its hit Adriano. The new single is about planning a new beginning, a change of life–but tomorrow. So it is probably both: optimistic and tragic.




Ole ohne Kohle (Ole without bucks) is the next newcomer. He is known as actor of the soap Berlin Tag und Nacht (Berlin Night And Day). His first single Ich bin kein Model und kein Superstar (I’m not a model or a superstar) is a typical Mallorca sound denying the celebrated life style on casting TV shows.



There are a few hits coming from Israel in the history of the German charts. These days it is Asaf Avidan who gets a little more attention. His folk song Reckoning Song was remixed by a Berlin DJ called Wankelmut. The remix became very popular on soundcloud under the name One Day. Finally this mix is available as digital single provided by Four music. As artists appear Asaf Avidan and DJ Wankelmut both.

Alongside with the album Karton the single Auf dem Weg (On the way) by German singer Mark Forster enters the sales charts again with a new peak at number 71.

Finally we should add a category called Casting stars updated. Do you remember Popstars season 2008? No. Of course not. Well–winner were four ladies who were put together in a girl group called Queensberry. Already the first single No Smoke / I Can’t Stop Feeling failed dramatically. In 2009 the girls had two Top 10 hits followed by a lot of trouble inside the group. Two ladies left, two new came in, the deal with the label UNIVERSAL was cancelled at the end of last years and earlier this year Selina Herrero left the band … now they are three and start a new chapter. Chapter 3 as their album is called. The first single Timeless is in shelves now. It can reach the German sales charts. That’s good news. It lands at number 90. That’s deflating for some ex-popstars. The song itself sounds very plastic and non-emotional. Probably chapter 3 is over soon.




A movie is causing a further chart entry in Germany. With the screening of Snow White & The Huntsman in German theatres also the title track can enter the sales charts. Florence + the Machin were inspired by the movie’s characters and recorded Breath Of Life. Although the movie was successful in English speaking countries as well the song couldn’t chart there at all.






From June the 1st on there is a change in the way the German charts are compiled. Now all songs available digitally or on CD are automatically eligible for the list. Before June tracks had to be registered for becoming chart eligible. The full rules are here.

This tiny policy already had influence on the charts. Last year Eurovision stars JEDWARD were everywhere the most sold act in download shops for a full week–but did not appear on the “official” sales charts by media control due to the fact that the label UNIVERSAL did not register their song Lipstick for being chart eligible.

The first artist/track that benefits from the change is German rap superstar CRO. His song Hi Kids already is a hit on platforms like youtube for months. It did not appear in the list cause t was not ment to be a single. Now the track enters the list as it is automatically chart eligible at number 72. Considering the time the track is already available and that it was given for free in autumn last year this rank must be seen as a very high new entry.



Second beneficiary of the new chart rules are KiD CuDi Feat. MGMT & Ratatat with their track Pursuit Of Happiness which is available as a download track since April this year. The track became popular mostly due to a remix version by Steve Aoki. As different versions and remixes are summed up to a single rank in the charts position 85 reflects both the sales of the original and the remix.

Somehow also Swedish AVICII might thank the new policy. His track Silhouettes finally can make it into the list. But the full promotion in Germany did not yet start. Let’s wait till the full video is released officially.

22-12: KONTOR sound starts the summer

What a week: 14 new entries – that’s what we've had only once this current year. Now that feat comes with a lot of new releases especially from the dance floor section. Let’s call it the industries effort for starting the summer business. Let's have a look what's going on.

The number one is still occupied by Die Toten Hosen. It is the second week vor Tage wie diese (Days Like These). The biggest impact comes from US rapper Flo Rida who sees his Whistle flying to number 2 a week before the full CD is released. (Further down the list he enters the charts for second time this week as featured artist.)

The first real story (real in the meaning of explicit Germany connected) can be found at number 9. The past two issues of the charts there was a strong influence of soccer detectable. And also this week presents its soccer hit. The sales span covered by the current list starts 18th of May and ends on 24th. On 19th there was the final of the UEFA cup confronting FC Bayern München with FC Chelsea. The match was highly anticipated in German media. The music used during breaks was I Follow Rivers recorded by Swedish Lykke Li. The singer is kind of an independent star in Germany for about three years. The end of 2011 she had commercial success in Belgium, the Netherlands and France storming the Top of the charts with I Follow Rivers. Now the time has come for a bigger attention in Germany too. The single can enter the German list inside the Top 10. Probably she will pass the honour of being the most successful Swedish act next week to fresh Eurovision winner Loreen.



The hymn of Bayern München also makes a big leap inside the list and lands at number 46 although the team succumb on the penalty.


New sound coming from KONTOR starts this week. The label at this moment is the most successful dance label in Germany accounting for the big success of that style. It freshly released the compilation House Of House Vol. 15 including a whole bunch of new digital releases. Most commercially successful is German project r.i.o.. It offers the hit Party Shaker which lands inside the Top 10 by collecting everything one know from past summer hits. The rap part now comes from NICCO who so far only collaborated with Austrian Darius & Finlay. Party Shaker is the second Top 10 hit for r.i.o. after last years Turn This Club Around.



2010 was the year of Die Atzen. Three simultanous hits selling weeks and weeks. In 2011 it was a strange collaboration with NENA that kept the memories to Frauenarzt & Manny Marc alive, This year the Atzen duo releases the third album with its own style–it can make on the album list a number 16. The single taken from that collection calls Party (Ich will abgehn). I guess there is no change to the sound two years ago. Probably that’s the reason why it only can enter at number 45.



Also Swiss REMADY offers a new production. Single Ladies features known Zurich singer Manu-L and Swedish rapper J-Son. The new track starts as single download at number 50 which marks a new peak of REMADY.



Last one of the KONTOR sound: RJ Flo Rida & Qwote also can enter the charts as the only non European act of the label this week.


If you're interested in other sounds than European dancefloor you should test single number two off the album auch by die ärzte (The Doctors). It calls m+f. The letters stand for male and female and the song describes the most common rituals of how the sexes come together … a funny story at all. The single starts its chart life right after the first one left the list.




Significant rises
American Linkin Park finally has a full CD version of Burn It Down in the shelves. The track peaks in its fifth chart week at number 16 eclipsing the download only peak of four weeks ago.
Pitbull launches with Dance Again a third simultanous hit inside the Top 20. Back In Time still rises up to number 5 this week meanwhile There She Goes by Taio Cruz slightly slides to number 8. The new collaboration with JLO can enter the list at number 19. Pitbull now is the artist having most tracks inside the Top 100 in 2012–the books count 10. Last year he had nine tracks as lead or featured artist plus two tracks where he wasn’t listed but performed.
Supported by the use as background sound for a commercial Santigold can celebrate her first chart hit in Germany. Disparate Youth starts at number 26.



After full CD release in Germany Forever by Danish MEDINA takes a 89–38 leap. So far it is the third best rank MEDINA could reach in her two years long career.
One might think that tunes once very successful die in peace and never come back. This isn’t true at all as very well known Infinity shows these days. A big hit in 1990 by Guru Josh it came back in a reworked version four years ago. That version spend another 64 weeks inside the charts peaking at number 4. Now the tune was chosen as the background for MAGNUM icecream (at least in German speaking countries) including the release of new remixes by acts like DJ Antoine vs. Mad Mark, Robby Rivera, Loverush and PunX. The new mixes immediatly start inside the chart at number 48.


New German sounds
Irish Rea Garvey can be count as a German act due to the fact he lives in Germany and is very active on German TV. In autumn last year he was part of the jury for The Voice of Germany. Now he offers a new solo single with Heart Of An Enemy. It can’t continue the success of Can’t Stand The Silence and Colour Me In.




Die Hölle morgen früh (The hell tomorrow morning) by Helene Fischer finally is available on CD. As most of the fans of her are rather conservative the release causes a re-entry of the song with a new peak. Although rank 72 looks shabby at the first sight it is for the first time that Helene Fischer can launch two single hits from an album inside the sales charts. So probably this is the point where the singer turns into a maker of single hits.

More Schlager can be found new at number 96. It is Franziska who returns after three and a half years back into the sales charts. Meanwhile she released an album which also reached the charts. Heute weiß ich erst, dass ich dich liebe (Not Until Today I Know That I Love You) is her third singles chart hit and also the worst performing so far.



A German newcomer is Mark Forster. As far as the story is told he makes music as background musician for several years. Now he offers his first solo material and it needs only a little to make him the new Tim Bendzko. Auf dem Weg (On The Way) is a story about making things in life one doesn’t really want. But it is not only about lost chances, it is more about being conscious of that situation and enjoying it.





And finally back to party. Party is the topic for the VIVA’s serial Party, Bruder!. The title track comes from US based Breathe Carolina. Blackout could be a European production at all. By this it is quite strange that the track needed a full year to arrive on these shores. Blame on their label SONY that hadn’t enough balls releasing the single earlier.

21-12: Soccer Hits

Last week the story of the week was soccer related. This time it is also a soccer story. And it is indeed the number 1 story. On 15th May Fortuna Düsseldorf made the qualification for the Bundesliga. It is the first time since 15 years that the club is able to make the first league. Of course the win was celebrated for hours. The anthem of that night was Tage wie diese recorded by Düsseldorf band Die Toten Hosen. Lead singer Campino always admits being a big fan of the club. As an effect the song rises three places reaching Number 1.

It took Die Toten Hosen 15 and a half year for being back at Germany’s top spot. In 1996 it was their song Zehn kleine Jägermeister (10 Little Jägermeister) that occupied the Nr.1 for four weeks in October. Now it is Tage wie diese (Days Like These). The past ten years we had such late rebounds to Number 1 twice. Most recently it was Take That by having a big come back with Patience in December 2006 after more than 11 years abstinence from Number 1. Much more impressive of course was the rebound of Nena who shot to the Top with Liebe ist after almost 22 years in March 2005.

Die Toten Hosen are the first German act reaching the Top since a whole year. Back in 2011 it was Pietro Lombardi who stormed the number 1. He was the only German who topped the charts in 2011. According to the strong presence of German acts inside the list this year we should see at least a few more striking the Top.

Besides Tage wie diese and last weeks shooting single Borussia, schenk uns die Schale (which tumbles unstoppable out of the Top 50) there is a third German song penetrating the list thanks to a strong relation to soccer. It is the anthem for upcoming soccer EM in Poland and Ukraine. Having a German singer presenting Endless Summer comes due to the strong popularity Hamburg based OCEANA has in Eastern Europe. Her hit Cry Cry reached number one in Poland, Hungary, Romania and even Greece. In Russia and Spain the song went Top 10 in 2009. The same year she won the biggest Polish music competition in Sopot and in 2010 she took part on the Polish version of Dancing With The Stars/Let’s Dance. In Germany her music is consumed in a more lukewarm way. With support of the EM that will change for sure. So far Endless Summer is her biggest hit in Germany reaching the Top 40 as the very first song of her. In Poland the single immediatly shot to number 5. And I find the track less bothersome than the Shakira Waka Waka theme two years ago.



The national cup also generates a hit. The team of FC Bayern München really hoped for the cup after being only the second at the Bundesliga. On 15th of May also the dreams of gaining the cup were totally destroyed. Once again the Bayern underlied the Bundesliga champion Borussia Dortmund. Fans of the team tried to support their club by loading the Bayern anthem Stern des Südens. It enters the list once again but did not help for the match.

The next big hope for a win of the Bayern team came a few days later when it had the final match of the UEFA Champions League against FC Chelsea. For that event the band project Room77 recorded the song Finale dahoam (The Final At Home) which also enters the German list. It is the first song ever that can made it to the official list without any professional label or promotion. It is available only via download platforms offered by the band itself. So that can be seen as the beginning of an new aera in music business.




There are not only soccer related stories this current week. Another one is the rise of Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen. Call Me Maybe already is a hit in almost whole Europe. With a few weeks delay it now arrives at the top in Germany too by taking a 8–3 leap. Certainly the video is one of the reasons why the song gains that much attention. In most countries the popularity is pushed by several versions of stars or fans. In Germany most of that versions are blocked. So probably the main reason for its popularity is the song itself.

With Back In Time climbing to number seven Pitbull again has two hits inside the Top 10. There She Goes alongside Taio Cruz still hangs at number 6. A year ago Pitbull had simultanous Top 10 hits with On The Floor and Give Me Everything On both that records he was presented as featured artist.

daniele negroni performs kind of an yo-yo in the charts. Right after the final of the DSDS casting his version on Don’t Think Abput Me entered the list at number 4. Last week it tumbled as deep as number 39 just for jumping back this current issue to number 15. Now the song is available as a full CD single – so the label got afraid of loosing too much money by not releasing the version of the vice superstar. By the way the winner Luca Hänni sees his version still selling as the eighth best single.

After three years of producing Austrian trio Darius & Finlay starts to remix itself. In 2009 it gained first commercial success with Do It All Night which became a medium hit in its home country. In Germany at least a few dance addicts noticed the track.The past two years the trio released six further single–most successive the track Rock The Boat in spring 2009 which became a club and chart hit in both Austria and Germany. Right now Darius & Finlay put hands on the first hit single again. Do It All Night 2k12 is a rework that differs due to the stronger beat anda new rap part contributed by German Carlprit. The original exotic and Café del Mar inspired atmosphere is replaced completely by a heavy focus on the 90s revival sound. The 2012 version is available as download single and immediatly starts its chart life at number 34–a whole 50 places higher than its peak in 2009. Plus it is the highest charting Austrian act since Andreas Gabalier hit number 30 in late October past autumn. So probably some might call Do It All Night now a classic tune.


Version 2k12 and the original from 2009

Germany’s a capella band number is the quintet wise guys. The guys make music since they met in school somewhen in the 80s. The first album was released in 1994. Between 2001 and 2005 the guys launched three minor single hits, the albums of 2006, 2008 and 2010 went to number 2 or 3 on the sales charts. Nonetheless something were in trouble the last months and they moved to the major UNIVERSAL. The first single released under new circumstances marks something like a new beginning. Lauter (Louder) goes straight Top 50 bringing the guys the second biggest hit to date. I guess the upcoming album will easily made top 5 in a few weeks.




Back to the 80s–that’s the slogan at position 77. The big female star from that decade is back with a new single. Sandra have had eight Top 10 hits during her heydays between 1985 and 1990. Later on she released singles and albums as well–the real big success enjoyed in her first years as a solo artist never came back. The revival of the 80s sound in the 2000s inspired the major label EMI to re-release the most successful hits again on CD. Since 2009 the label offers the best of Kajagoogoo, Billy Idol or Heaven 17 under the label So80s. Also Sandra had a Best of compilation within that series a few weeks ago. All that compilations were presented and mixed by DJ team Blank & Jones. The meeting of both Sandra and Blank & Jones led to a new collaboration and a new single recorded by Sandra. Maybe Tonight is the first single of Sandra within 3 years. It sounds if it were produced in the 80s–let’s call it a forgotten recording of 1987. The new single can reach the list at number 77 which is the lowest peak Sandra achieved since 10 years. Probably the 80s are dead. Let’s move on to the 90s.


Unfortunatly there is no video available nor the original version–so I can only present a fan extended mix of the song. I guess you got an impression by that.


In 2010 Danish MEDINA served the crowd with the summer hit You And I. It made number 10 in Germany staying 25 weeks inside the charts. After that success four further chart hits were offered by her achieving less attraction to the audience. Now a new single is released and can enter the list a week before it is officially released. Maybe Forever will become the proper succeeder of You And I. In a few weeks we all might know more.

20-12: New Old Number One And (Almost) No Entries

Do you remember what I told you last week? I promised you the start of the summer and the arriving of loads of new songs. This week everything is changed again. We only can find 6 songs completely new on the charts and 2 tracks re-entering the list which means there is an 8 tracks turnover of the list. It is the second time this year that we only have eight songs listed that not were in the list the week before. So probably one have to wait a little longer for the transformation in a hot new summer list ...

But there are some moves done in the charts: Luca Hänni’s halt at the Top is stopped after a single week by predecessor Too Close offered by dubstep singer Alex Clare. Latter one now adds a third week to his number one addition. The Swiss superstar tumbles down to number 3 due to the fact that current soccer champion BVB enters the list at number 2 with the anthem Borussia, schenk uns die Schale (Borussia, Take The Bowl/Cup). It is the third year in a row that a BVB anthem can enter the list. It started two years ago with a song celebrating the 100th anniversary of the club. Last year the team won the tournament and the anthem recorded with Krypteria stormed to number 6. This year the crowd is even more crazy–the current single enters the list at number 2. A few days ago the team also won the DFB cup. So we will see the single listed at the very Top of the music charts for sure in two weeks time again.

The single features Borussia master Norbert Dickel as the leading voice. He is an all time star for the club as he in 1989 brought the team two goals on the final match of the DFB cup although his knee was heavily injured. Shortly after that he was retired from sport and started a career as stadium announcer. Now he is debuting as a singer too.



The song itself is a cover of the Mickie Krause Mallorca hit Schatzi, schenk mir ein Foto. The song originally penned by Dutch Gebroeders Ko already spent 42 weeks inside the German charts in at least two different mixes. It peaked at number 27 on beginning of March during the heydays of this year’s carnival season.


Next new German song comes from Revolverheld member KRIS. Diese Tage (These Days) is a sunshiny song about the beautifulness of life. Every day is worth for living even if one seems completely ill fated. The sound (and the video) is very American country rock. It has a sing-a-long refrain and quotes a few anthems of that genre including Miss California which original lyrics by Dante Thomas are added to the song itself.




Four years after his first solo album Peter Heppner comes with a second. For featuring the release he offers the single Meine Welt (My World). In my opinion his sound is much more mellow and a bit more electronic than 2008. Even his lyrics seem to escape the reality. Peter Heppner dreams of an own world which is a better place. All that presented with that weepy voice … hmm one must be a fan for really loving that.




We do have a new superstar. Although he’s tumbling down in popularity right now every one around does remember the last DSDS season. Nonetheless there started a spin off on 5th May: DSDS Kids. I remember shows like this aired in the 80s and 90s already. Well, kids are sweet and help selling music. First beneficiary of the show is Adele. Her Someone Like You was the song performed by 12 years old Besnik. Jurywoman Dana Schweiger was overwhelmed–TV watchers also. The song can rise up the list again to number 49. Similar does Rolling In The Deep that was performed by 10 years old Gala. To be completely honest, also CRO gots a little more attention after Easy was performed by 10 years old Samuel. The song rises two places to number 7.

18-12: More Casting Show Impact

Week number two at the Top for Alex Clare. His Too Close still attracts most people in Germany. In Switzerland the current number 1 song is Drive By by US American train that also in Germany makes a seven place leap to number 3. One probably know the reason: the song was performed on the semi final of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS) that was aired on 21st April. Daniele Negroni had chosen the song and caused the strong new interest in it. Drive By doubles the feat that She Doesn’t Mind achieved last week. For the band train it is now the most successful single eclipsing the number 7 peak of Hey, Soul Sister in 2010.

Right at number 6 we find the next DSDS related gainer. It is Ma Chérie which was performed at the semi final by final winner Luca Hänni. His choice for a hit coming from his native country Switzerland gives DJ Antoine a second Top 10 hit in Germany. Reaching that peak in its 29th chart week makes the track the second slowest hit in 2012. In Switzerland where Ma Chérie reaches number 2 after the TV presence it took the track full 58 weeks to reach that peak. – Of course I don’t have to speak about accompanying Beat Shakers from Serbia. It is the highest rank a Serbian act ever could achieve in Germany (and Switzerland).

If we watch th songs performed at the show I have to mention The Man Who Can’t Be Moved by Irish The Script which is back in the list after the DSDS performance too. However the song only enters at number 72.

Probably it is worth noting that the third highest new entry was supported by DSDS also. It is Live My Life by Far East Movement ft. Justin Bieber that reaches number 8 in its first weeks and gives both acts their first ever Top 10 appearance in Germany. The new Justin Bieber track also lifts the old one 61–39 which is a new peak also.


The best new single start of the week comes from Germany. It is DJane HouseKat accompanied with rapper Rameez who offer a new version on the disco classic Let’s All Chant. The original by The Michael Zager Band climbed to number 14 in 1978. Although it wasn’t the huge hit it became a classic covered several times in all decades. Most popular so far the version of DJ Valium recorded in 2002 which also reached the German charts.



The new version of Let’s All Chant turns the speed a little down but adds common rap parts and floor signals. Produced by Groove Coverage mastermind Axel Konrad it is not surprising seeing the single flying to number 4 in it’s first week. The track was released first back in January but it became popular not before it was used as a commercial background for TV channel PRO7. The big jump to number 4 makes the song the second most successful for the producer after his first success with Groove Coverage in 2002.




Last story of the heavily turned over Top 10. Seeing Taio Cruz Feat Pitbull storming to number 5 with their song There She Goes the US/Cuban rapper launches his eigtht chart hit in 2012 so far. He now overtook French DJ David Guetta who “only” collected seven different tracks invading the lists this recent year. In long time terms Pitbull stays still behind David Guetta. The French man does have 19 different charting tracks under his belt this decade so far (plus one where he appeared as non-mentioned producer). Pitbull brought 15 tracks in the list over the last two and a half year. – Collaborating partner Taio Cruz also celebrates a feat worth mentioning. There She Goes is the third song reaching the Top 10 this year. So the British star had three consecutive years three different songs ranking inside the Top 10.



At the lower end of the charts some further German productions start their commercial life:
Rock band Donots is back with a new album. Leading single Come Away With Me is the ninth song charting in Germany. Landing at number 67 in its first week is something quite common for the band. It only twice in its whole career rose to number 33.



The first warm days passed by and immediately the first Mallorca party hits appear. Markus Becker is the one who starts the new season. His new song Abi Abi Abitur terrifies me a lot. It clearly states that in between carnival and Mallorca season there is a time space and an event left for cheap boozing. It is the end of school, the time of examinations and getting the A level (which is what Abitur means). In Germany high school graduates very often on their last day of school before the examinations spend a day at the streets wearing stupid things like pampers or pyjamas and getting drunk at noon latest. The soundtrack for that kind of celebration is of course nothing else than Schlager stuff without any deeper sense. Abi Abi Abitur fits that feeling perfectly.



German Bundesliga ended this weekend with the old and new champion Borussia Dortmund. The team was in lead position for a long time but the fans of runner’s up Bayern München really hoped for a wonder. Probably that’s the reason the club anthem Stern des Südens (Star Of The South) re-enters in the list. The song appeared in the charts for the first timemore than 14 years ago. It peaked at number 25 in May 2010. As it is a very seasonal hit only charting for a few weeks at the end of the soccer season it collected so far 16 chart weeks.




And finally we have a chart record broken this week. Since February 2009 the song collected most weeks inside the charts was Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) by Austrian duo DJ Ötzi & Nik P.. This week they are dethroned to number 2 by another duo–German DJs Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner. Their track Sky And Sand counts its 108th week inside the list. Of course the two DJs profits from the removal of the clearing policy valid until March 2010. Sky And Sand is the first track that never was removed from the list cause of that policy. Meaning Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) would be far and away the most longest sold single still. In its whole chart career the song was at least three times removed from the list for three months … I would call that bad luck.

X Factor finalists charting

Lana Del Rey again leads the survey. It seems almost certain that Video Games – Blue Jeans will stay at the top for the next days – very probably for Christmas time too. Even the rest of the Top 5 this week holds firm at past week’s position. Let’s call it (pre-)Christmas lazyness. More or less we witness that behaviour every year in December: well known hits rise again – new ones start slowly.

Let’s have a look at the new hits first. The highest new entry comes in at position 8. It is P!NK and her song Bridge Of Light for the movie Happy Feet 2. Just behind her the story of the week lands. It is about the end of the second season of X Factor. Winner is policeman David Pfeffer from Duisburg who won all public votes except the very first one. Somehow it was certain to see him taking the crown and the contract. His first hit is I’m Here which he performed at the final show also. The track immediately flies to number 10 on downloads only – CD sales will count from next week on. To beat the success of last year’s winner Edita (Abdieski) the singer needs to climb a position higher.By the way, do you remember the „huge“ career of Edita? Her debut I’ve Come To Life shot straight to number 9 and left the charts six weeks later. A second single called The Key was released in March stalling at number 51. In June she went on Clubtour. Since than nothing new heard ’bout her . Hopefully David Pfeffer will have much more luck. A next goal might be to beat Cello as the most popular German track, which sits pretty at number 9.



Runners up of the show is also in sales the second. Raffaela Wais offers a sweet pop song called Heaven Only Knows. I guess if another well known act would have recorded that track it would be a sure Top 10 hit. With nr.2 of the X Factor final as a singer it only can climb to 41.

Number 3 is the duo Nica & Joe – their operatic Build A Palace reaches number 54 right after the show. Nica (Veronika Belyavskaya) is already the second Polish act reaching the German charts in 2011. Three weeks ago it was Edward Simoni who entered the list alongside Christian Franke. I can’t remember any other Polish act with commercial success in Germany. Well, Itchyban – singer of Culcha Candela – is Polish. Anyway it seems the neighbour country of Germany finally makes the impact to the music market it deserves.



Further new material comes from SCOOTER. The band sends its 48th chart single in the competition. It is the fourth single taken from the album The Big Mashup and it is the fourth single in a row which sets a new negative record for the band. Friends Turbo, The Only One and David Doesn’t Eat all three charted lower and lower. Now it is track C’est Bleu that performs even worse. It enters in its first week on sale at a disappointing number 77. The Big Mashup is the least successfull album ever for SCOOTER in hit single terms. Probably their star is really sinking. Hardcore fans had to wait for the next album to prove that SCOOTER might have any chart power .

The track itself uses the refrain of the very familiar tune L’amour Est Bleu which made Greek-German singer Vicky Leandros internationally popular in 1967. She attempted with the song at the Eurovision Song Contest ending at the fourth place. (Winner song that year was Puppet On A String by Sandie Shaw) In Germany L’amour est bleu was the fourth chart hit for Vicky Leandros reaching number27. Five years later she won the contest with Aprés Toi. After that success she had some hits in Germany including the number 1 single Theo, wir fahr’n nach Lodz (Theo, let’s go to Lodz).Since the end of the 70s she appeared only a few times inside the single’s charts. The last single reaching the list was Xavier Naidoo penned Möge der Himmel (Heaven should) two and a half year ago.

L’amour est bleu was a hit in two versions before. Paul Mariat recorded an instrumental one that became number 1 in the U.S.A. In Germany the record reached number 32. Now – 43 years later – the tune is back in people’s mind. I assume a completely new generation is discovering the track never before heard of it.

Two further new hits worth mentioning arrive in the list. At position 51 the Christmas offering by DJ Ötzi lands. Ring The Bell is a song with English lyrics – I don’t know for what. It is simple as always ... for all the older people ...



If you like strange stories here is one: Brasilian Michel Teló is entering the German charts. His hit Nooossaa! Ai Se Eu Te Pego became famopus by a youtube video which shows soccer star Neymar dancing to the track in a locker room. In October it charted in Spain and Italy (number 1 in both countries) after Ronaldo adopted the Nooossaa! move.Now also German soccers love to dance to the sound of Ai Se Eu Te Pego and the original track charts at number 66.

I wrote about strong re-appearing or re-rising hits at the end of the year. This week they come after Die ultimative Chartshow was broadcasted on December 2nd. One of the live performers was Marlon Roudette – his number 1 hit New Age jumps again 24–12 and is the biggest gainer of the show. I promise you the next weeks will see much more other live performer of all the hits of the year shows.

A Sporty Week

Most exciting story of the week probably is the rise of David Guetta featuring Taio Cruz Ludacris into the Top 5. Last week the new single from electro DJ of the moment Little Bad Girl made its debut at number 12. Now – still as a digital release only – the track attracts much more music lovers. It is the fourth track on which David Guetta appears as an artist and that managed at least once a Top 10 position this year. It is only Rihanna the other act doing so.
With the proper release still some weeks ahead David Guetta seems having all chances to be the next number 1 hit.

Watching the Top 10 closely I now can report Pitbull overtaking Bruno Mars as the artist having most appearances inside the Top 10 in 2011. The result so far: 25 weeks – for comparison: last years best performer Rihanna collected 32 weeks over the whole year.

German tracks
There are some small changes going according the preferences of German productions. Most loved song at the moment is Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (Just have to save the world) by Tim Bendzko. The very authentic song now dethrones the commercially clean and shallow I Miss You by Sarah Engels & Pietro Lombardi (+ Dieter Bohlen of course). Track number 3 favoured by the audience is Still by Jupiter Jones. The ballad yoyos back 16 – 14.

Interest is raising on Wovon sollen wir träumen (What we might dream of) by Frida Gold. The track is used by German public TV ZDF for backgrounding all reports and broadcasts of the FIFA womens world championship. Due to that heavy rotation it climbs 25 – 19 reaching a new peak in its 14th chart week. Seeing the German team fail in the quarter final 7 days ago the track might loose in attractivity. The band at least has reached Top 20 status für the very first time.



There are a lot of remixes of the track around right now. One of the most mass appealing is the one by Michael Mind. Check it out and decide for yourself which one is the best.



Having four tracks inside the Top 20 Germany is the most successful home country of the German chart right now. Third one is France. This recent week we count three tracks, last week there were even four tracks. Of course that’s an effect of above mentioned success of David Guetta. But also a second DJ named Lucenzo performs strong these days. His Danza Kuduro featuring Puertorican Don Omar is jumping 19 – 11.


A few days ago I dropped some words ’bout the lazy German music industry. No really new releases meaning no exciting new entries in the charts. Due to that fact the highest new track is an old one. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were back in the mind of music fans by there announcement of a new album at the end of August called I’m With You plus a new tour end of the year through Europe. Unfortunatly tickets are very expensive – at least that’s what a lot of fans wrote at the official fan page of the Peppers.

Why they are back in the charts after a four years break is due to a TV spectacle at 2nd of July. That was the date of the final boxing fight for world champion title of IBF, WBO and IBO. The fight took place at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg featuring Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye. It was an highly advertised event broadcasted live by private TV channel RTL. There are reports that the transmission of the fight had the highest rates a Klitschko fight ever had. Believe it or not – the song of Klitschko’s ring entrance re-enters the list after the fight. It is Can’t Stop – the 2003 single of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Although that track is one of the signature songs of the band it never went higher than number 58 in its original chart run 8 years ago. Now the track enters at number 48 and marks the highest peak ever for that track.

TV appearances causing re-entries within the charts is a quite common thing. Much more seldom a re-entry (or re-rise) is caused by a tour or single stage appearance. It happened just now to Norwegian Madcon. They were part of the warm up show for German comedian Mario Barth who had a stadion show in Leipzig at 2nd July. 42.000 guests were celebrating meanwhile rainy weather. It had to be a crazy performance – Outrun The Sun is re-entering the list at 58 after a three weeks pause, Glow is rising again 86–76 in its 57th week and Freaky Like Me re-enters at 99. The upcoming Madcon-Tour Contraband will probably benefit from such hysteria also.

Summer time means exciting party time. We witness stupid Mallorca tracks entering and rising the list as well as a few electro tracks. One of these tracks appearing every few years in a new remix is the meanwhile classic Cafe Del Mar by early 90ies trance project Energy 52. Last seen as a minor hit three years ago it had a renaissance this year in May when digital label Flying Circus released remixes by German DJ Ricardo Villalobos. They are much more minimal as all remixes before – the main title only appears as an echo. After almost two months on sale the track catches fire at dancefloors and starts the sell copies again. It enters the German charts at number 86 counting its 15th chart week all remixes together.
