We witness Scream & Shout at number 1 for a sixth week. The track now matches the result of the best performing single by Britney Spears so far, … Baby One More Time. The debut single spent six weeks at the top in Germany almost exactly 14 years ago.
And also will.i.am now matches with the current number 1 single his best performance at the top so far – it was Shut Up by his band The Black Eyed Peas which occupied the top spot in 2003/04 for six weeks.
Will both together go a week further this time?

Macklemore & Ryan Wilson feat. Wanz climb to number 3 with their Thrift Shop. In Switzerland the track this week reached Number 1.

It is just a week to go for the full release of Rihanna’s next Single Stay on CD. But the track steadily rises and this current week reaches number 5. It is her 19th Top 10 hit at all and the 10th alone in this decade. Eight of these ten song reached the Top 5.

On the way up DJ Antoine wants to become the next David Guetta. His current single Bella Vita is rising to number 15 matching now the peak of Sky Is The Limit – the title track of his current album not released as a single yet. Number 15 is the highest position so far since his 2012 smash hit Ma chérie hit number 6.

Probably the first German act on the field of Northern Soul is Leslie Clio. After her first chart entry Told You So in summer last year she now returns with I Couldn’t Care Less which is choosen for backgrounding the new Ford Fiesta Campaign. The spot lifts the song up to numberr 31 – a new peak for the artist.

It is carnival time in the list. DJ Ötzi’s new single Wie ein Komet is entering the list at number 33 – it is the highest seasonal song followed closely by Andreas Gaballier and his recording of I sing a Liad für di. Also Mickie krause takes a leap with his song Nur noch Schuhe an.
Also new is Cat Ballou with Et jitt kein Wood and Kasalla finally can reach the upper half with their Pirate for the first time. The song entered the list for the very first time one year ago.
Winner of the party season also are Stefan Raab and Cologne based HÖHNER..

Hot Spot 02-08-13

It is week number 4 at the top for will.i.am &Britney Spears and their hit Scream & Shout.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz now reach the Top 10 in Germany also. Thrift Shop lands at number 8 and it is worth mentioning that the track is purchased only via their own independent label. I would call it a ray of future which shines through the list these days.

Swiss DJ Antoine has released a new album calling Sky Is The Limit which storms to number 6 at the album charts. The title track is the highest new entry at number 15 this week in the singles list although it is not scheduled for a release as a single itself. Additionally official single Bella Vita reaches the list at number 37 and a third track called House Party (feat. B-Case & U-JEAN) lands at number 94.

Rihanna’s next single Stay enters the Top 20 and is on the way to become her 19th Top 10 hit. The release as CD single is scheduled for February 15th.

TV soap Berlin - Tag und Nacht causes a next hit. It is the title song that now enters at number 32. So far only character/actor Ole (ohne Kohle) had a short chart success last summer (the numerous regular pop hits supported by using them in the backround are not counted here).

DSDS fever starts – on 26th and 30th January the recall shows were aired. Big winner was the group with Wincent Weiß. They performed Wie soll ein Mensch das ertragen originally recorded by Philipp Poisel. That version climbs to number 41 this week again and gives the track the highest rank achieved since last September.
Also the candidates performing Idiot were successful – the original by Michell & Matthias Reim re-enters after a two years break. (By the way: Matthias Reim just released his new album making the track Einsamer Stern flying to number 49).
Finally French Laura Kleinas got some fans – the song performed by her In Love With The World finds its way in the list.

18-12: More Casting Show Impact

Week number two at the Top for Alex Clare. His Too Close still attracts most people in Germany. In Switzerland the current number 1 song is Drive By by US American train that also in Germany makes a seven place leap to number 3. One probably know the reason: the song was performed on the semi final of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS) that was aired on 21st April. Daniele Negroni had chosen the song and caused the strong new interest in it. Drive By doubles the feat that She Doesn’t Mind achieved last week. For the band train it is now the most successful single eclipsing the number 7 peak of Hey, Soul Sister in 2010.

Right at number 6 we find the next DSDS related gainer. It is Ma Chérie which was performed at the semi final by final winner Luca Hänni. His choice for a hit coming from his native country Switzerland gives DJ Antoine a second Top 10 hit in Germany. Reaching that peak in its 29th chart week makes the track the second slowest hit in 2012. In Switzerland where Ma Chérie reaches number 2 after the TV presence it took the track full 58 weeks to reach that peak. – Of course I don’t have to speak about accompanying Beat Shakers from Serbia. It is the highest rank a Serbian act ever could achieve in Germany (and Switzerland).

If we watch th songs performed at the show I have to mention The Man Who Can’t Be Moved by Irish The Script which is back in the list after the DSDS performance too. However the song only enters at number 72.

Probably it is worth noting that the third highest new entry was supported by DSDS also. It is Live My Life by Far East Movement ft. Justin Bieber that reaches number 8 in its first weeks and gives both acts their first ever Top 10 appearance in Germany. The new Justin Bieber track also lifts the old one 61–39 which is a new peak also.


The best new single start of the week comes from Germany. It is DJane HouseKat accompanied with rapper Rameez who offer a new version on the disco classic Let’s All Chant. The original by The Michael Zager Band climbed to number 14 in 1978. Although it wasn’t the huge hit it became a classic covered several times in all decades. Most popular so far the version of DJ Valium recorded in 2002 which also reached the German charts.



The new version of Let’s All Chant turns the speed a little down but adds common rap parts and floor signals. Produced by Groove Coverage mastermind Axel Konrad it is not surprising seeing the single flying to number 4 in it’s first week. The track was released first back in January but it became popular not before it was used as a commercial background for TV channel PRO7. The big jump to number 4 makes the song the second most successful for the producer after his first success with Groove Coverage in 2002.




Last story of the heavily turned over Top 10. Seeing Taio Cruz Feat Pitbull storming to number 5 with their song There She Goes the US/Cuban rapper launches his eigtht chart hit in 2012 so far. He now overtook French DJ David Guetta who “only” collected seven different tracks invading the lists this recent year. In long time terms Pitbull stays still behind David Guetta. The French man does have 19 different charting tracks under his belt this decade so far (plus one where he appeared as non-mentioned producer). Pitbull brought 15 tracks in the list over the last two and a half year. – Collaborating partner Taio Cruz also celebrates a feat worth mentioning. There She Goes is the third song reaching the Top 10 this year. So the British star had three consecutive years three different songs ranking inside the Top 10.



At the lower end of the charts some further German productions start their commercial life:
Rock band Donots is back with a new album. Leading single Come Away With Me is the ninth song charting in Germany. Landing at number 67 in its first week is something quite common for the band. It only twice in its whole career rose to number 33.



The first warm days passed by and immediately the first Mallorca party hits appear. Markus Becker is the one who starts the new season. His new song Abi Abi Abitur terrifies me a lot. It clearly states that in between carnival and Mallorca season there is a time space and an event left for cheap boozing. It is the end of school, the time of examinations and getting the A level (which is what Abitur means). In Germany high school graduates very often on their last day of school before the examinations spend a day at the streets wearing stupid things like pampers or pyjamas and getting drunk at noon latest. The soundtrack for that kind of celebration is of course nothing else than Schlager stuff without any deeper sense. Abi Abi Abitur fits that feeling perfectly.



German Bundesliga ended this weekend with the old and new champion Borussia Dortmund. The team was in lead position for a long time but the fans of runner’s up Bayern München really hoped for a wonder. Probably that’s the reason the club anthem Stern des Südens (Star Of The South) re-enters in the list. The song appeared in the charts for the first timemore than 14 years ago. It peaked at number 25 in May 2010. As it is a very seasonal hit only charting for a few weeks at the end of the soccer season it collected so far 16 chart weeks.




And finally we have a chart record broken this week. Since February 2009 the song collected most weeks inside the charts was Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) by Austrian duo DJ Ötzi & Nik P.. This week they are dethroned to number 2 by another duo–German DJs Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner. Their track Sky And Sand counts its 108th week inside the list. Of course the two DJs profits from the removal of the clearing policy valid until March 2010. Sky And Sand is the first track that never was removed from the list cause of that policy. Meaning Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) would be far and away the most longest sold single still. In its whole chart career the song was at least three times removed from the list for three months … I would call that bad luck.

13-12: Switzerland vs. Eurodance

Nine weeks at the Top of Germany’s official singles charts. That’s what Brazilian Michel Teló is collecting so far with his anthem Nooossaa! Ai Se Eu Te Pego!. Nine weeks at the top–such a feat was last seen in October and November 2010 when Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole occupied the top slot for 10 consecutive weeks with his version on Over The Rainbow. An impressive hit at that time, still loved and often played, still ranging in the survey from time to time–last seen the week before at number 83. Anyway the singer is a one hit wonder in statistical terms. No other song recorded by him reached the singles list. Prospects are similar for Michel Teló. Having a huge hit often means to an artist that she/he is connected with that one song forever and never can offer something else that finds new friends. Good news are: the singer approaches the all time record for an act coming from South America. Shakira only is two more weeks ahead with her Nr.1 hit Whenever Wherever.

At number 3 a progress within the last 9 months comes to a new hiatus. Mike Candys Ft. Evelyn & Patrick Miller are the highest entering act at all and the next Swiss production landing in the German Top 10. 2012 ‘If The World Would End’ is the first one since DJ Antoine brought Welcome To St. Tropez to number 3 in August last year. Since than we had a couple of dance productions made in Switzerland invading the German list. Right now we have three Swiss acts inside the German Top 20–me personally don’t know when we had a situation like that the last time.



Further down the survey the DJ who started that little Swiss invasion a year ago comes in with a new track. This time DJ Antoine had chosen a track offered by Austrian fellow Rene Rodrigezz. Shake 3x also features the vocals of Austrian MC Yankoo who sounds like an European Pitbull. In Austria the track already was a hit in last September. In Germany it is the eighth track featuring a Swiss artist that ranks simultanously in the survey.




TV show of the week 16th to 22nd of March was Schlag den Raab (Beat the Raab) on Saturday 17th. Stefan Raab of course is a big player in TV and music business. He discovered and supported Swiss Stefanie Heinzmann in 2008–still she belongs to the inner circle of the Raab clan. At the show two weeks ago she performed her recent single Diggin’ In The Dirt which makes the sales increasing. The track lands at number 12. Benefitting much more of the appearance on TV Swedish CALIGOLA sees its single Forgive Forget jumping 16 places to number 16 after its performance in the show.

Seeing Swedish House Mafia entering the German list also, music coming from Sweden also making an increasing impact to the German market. Right now one can count four tracks of Swedish acts hanging around–five if one count the Steve Angello production of Taio Cruz’ Troublemaker. That track exactly shows the difference between the Swiss and the Swedish presence. Swedish acts are much more glabally involved. So the new track of the Swedish House Mafia is the soundtrack of the recent Absolut Vodka campaign called Greyhound. The video is an artificial trip into the future. The single lands at number 53.





Let’s have a look at German productions. Still leading the pack is Deichkind with Leider geil ranking at number 9 and Bück dich hoch slightly rising to number 11.

Best new offering coming from Germany is presented by surprising newcomer 2012 Glasperlenspiel (Glass Bead Game). The band continues with a second single Ich bin ich (I Am Me). It is a bubbly pop song reflecting about what is seen of a person by others and what is hide. So the song might tell a lot about modern relationships and love affairs. It starts chart life at 32.



A few places behind rock veteran Udo Lindenberg stops with his third unplugged single. It is 1989 song Reeperbahn in a reworked version as duet with Hamburg Jan Delay. They both performed as a duo twice before.



Further down the list UNHEILIG enters the survey with the title track of new album Lichter der Stadt (Lights Of The City). The album starts its chart life this week right at number one–the title track sneaks in the singles’ list at number 67. The song so far is available only as an album cut. The full CD single is released on 30th of March. Listening to the song one has to admit that UNHEILIG take new pathes. The sound is much more pop oriented. Never before I’ve heard the band that bright and joyfull.




European Dance Stuff seems a topic as four of all new enries fit to that genre.

Before David Guetta became the famous French export DJ it was Bob Sinclar who represented commercially successful club music coming from France. Seven years after his number 1 hit Love Generation the DJ and producer still releases material that can attract at least a bunch of clubbers. It is now a collaboration with Pitbull singer DragonFly and well known Fatman Scoop thatenters the list at number 45. Rock The Boat is kind of an oldschool sound. It completely abstains from rave oriented hook lines and trusts on the refrain and Pitbulls rap part. Of course a main attraction is the beat borrowed from Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. Just try out the MashUp by Mike Candys for knowing what I’m talking about.




Pitbull this week also enters the list as a featured artist alongside british singer REDD. He now had already seven tracks in the charts this year which matches the result of Flo Rida so far. Having six tracks in the survey in this recent week Pitbull is the first act in 2012 doing so. Last year David Guetta was the one hanging around in that quantity for 14 weeks, Lena and Amy Winehouse at least managed it for a single week. In long time terms Pitbull is hard on the heels of David Guetta according to how many chart hits he could’ve launched. Having 14 different entries he falls only four tracks short in this decade so far.

German dance cover project Groove Coverage actually works on the 90ies revival. Think About The Way was a hit for rapper Ice MC in 1994. It was kind of a comeback after his first success and a three years pause. All in all it was his second biggest seller. Groove Coverage wants to announce the new album Riot On The Dancefloor with this offering. But number 53 is not the big impact. Although the cover is probably one of their most felicitous it is the second lowest chart placing for a track in the whole chart life of the project.

DSDS impacts
Some sites report that viewing figures of recent season are disastrous. According to the impact the show makes on the charts one can attest a fading influence. This week big favourite and everybody’s darling Luca Hänni is the one again who attracted most. His performed song Use Somebody re-enters the list at number 66. It is already the 39th week for the Kings of Leon track. Propelled by the demand in Use Somebody also Sex On Fire can gain some more attention and climb to number 94 again in its 76th chart week.

Second favourite of the show on 17th of March was Daniele Negroni. He performed Oh Jonny by Jan Delay which appears afterwards at number 87 in the singles list.



The very last new entry in the list lands at number 92. It is hiphop made in Austria. Dame raps on what’s about gaming on Pave Low. Although it uses all the clichees of German ghetto hiphop it sounds different to most of rap productions coming from German speaking territory. Probably it makes a difference if one tells stories about the real virtual life than dreaming ‘bout being a hard and tough street kid.

Fading German Hits And A Few New Arrivals

R(ihanna) feat. Calvin Harris rebounds to number 1. It is the third time a track can reach the top position again after having at least a one week break. In 2010 we had also three tracks bouncing down from number 1 and back again. So We Found Love does nothing unusual at all. It is Rihanna’s 11th summarized week at number 1 in her whole career. She now joins Marlon Roudette and Israel IZ Kamakawiwo’ole – both of them collected the 11 weeks with one or two hits – Rihanna so far set up shorter number 1 strikes. Umbrella spent the longest time of all her top hits right at number 1: 5 consecutive weeks. That was back in July 2007.

New inside the Top 10 is Canadian Nickelback with its new single When We Stand Together. It is the 3rd single of the band reaching the upper 10 in Germany. Further down Lana del Rey meets growing interest. The single Video Games so far was available as download only – from next week on proper CD sales count also, for sure we will see her rising much higher than recent rank 17.

The Bundesvision effect slowly fades away. For the first time since June we don’t have any single German track inside the Top 10. Best sold German track is Echt (Pure) by Glasperlenspiel which slides down one place to number 14. Right behind at number 15 stops dance production Turn This Club Around by R.I.O. feat. U-Jean. After six weeks as one of the 10 best sold singles the track now starts dropping down. On the way down also Rosenstolz with Wir sind am Leben (We Are Alive) can reach the rank as third most sold German track – actually placed at number 24.

Highest new German track enters the list at position 32. It is king of Schlager and discofox Michael Wendler who after a two and a half years break reappaers in the charts. His first commercially successful hit Sie liebt den DJ (She Loves The DJ) had an impressive 30 weeks chart run although it only climbed to number 27. Since than the song became somewhat of an discofox anthem played at almost every party from Après Ski and carnival season to Ballermann Mallorca discos and the Oktoberfest. This year Michael Wendler decided to release a sequel to his hit. Now it’s called Sie liebt ihn immer noch (She Still Loves Him). The new song contains all the ingredients the old one already showed including parts of the lyrics. It is a very simple formula milked here.


The new single was released as double A-side containing a duet with young Schlager talent Anika who was casted by Michael Wendler himself earlier this year. In The Heat Of The Night was chosen as second track for the single in September when both performed the song in Oberhausen. The sound of that track is slightly different to all older releases. Seems Michael Wendler tries to enrich his repertoire with more eurodance sound. So far the new single performs in a more or less semi-successful way.




Second German artist celebrating commercial success is Roger Cicero’s. Propelled by the release of his new album which enters at number 4 at the album list teh title track and single In diesem Moment (At This Moment) jumps 97–48 in its second week.

And a third German artist has something to offer. Peter Maffay is announcing a new album, the sixth of the Tabaluga series for children. Die Zeit hält nur in Träumen an (Only In Dreams Time Stops) is the leading single featuring Monrose singer Mandy Capristo. It enters at position 86 as Peter Maffay’s 46th chart single.

Some releases from Switzerland and Austria also penetrating the charts more or less succesfull. Leading the pack due to it’s final release on CD is DJ Antoine feat. The Beat Shakers. The single Ma Chérie jumps 99–33. The track reminds me a lot to Stereo Love by Edward Maya feat. Vika Jigulina. Well – it is somewhat of an follower to DJ Antoine’s remix hit Welcome To St. Tropez which reached number 3 back in summer.

Already for 5 weeks on Top in Austria Hubert von Goisern can also enter the German list with Brenna tuats guat (It Burns Well – in strong Austrian dialect). It is for the first time the folk singer can reach the German charts. Probably the strong lyrics caused the sudden success although it is hard to understand for most Germans. The song expresses the anger about the financial crisis in Europe.



Second Austrian entering the German chart is fii. He performs as a living beat box and applied for participation at X Factor a few weeks ago. The audience were celebrating his performance – the judge said NO. Well – the album released already a year ago in Austria now is distributed also in Germany. The „hit single“ Power To The People can enter the list at 67 in ist first week.



Talking bout X Factor: the weekly instant effect is somehow lower than other weeks. Motto of hte show aired on 1st November was The Wild 80s. Obviously the interest in original songs recorded 30 years ago is minimal. No song performed at the show appears in the recent list. Only Kelly Clarkson gets a boost in sales after performing her single Mr Know It All at the show. The track now sits proper at number 18.

Where German HipHop Moves

Guettamania update:
Without You from the album Nothing But The Beat can increase its single downloads and cracks the Top 10. It is the 6th track of David Guetta cracking the top 10 this year alone. He is now not only the one with most Top 10 hits this year but this (still young) decade also. Vocal artist USHER counts his 7th Top 10 hit of his whole career -– the second this year. More went to number 7 in March/April this year.

Within the most loved German productions there is a slight change going on. Tim Bendzko still leads the survey with Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (Just Have To Save The World), runners up is still Jupiter Jones and their ballad Still though hard on their heels lands Lena and her take on What A Man (see last commentary)

Next new entry is superstar second Sarah Engels with her new single Only For You. It is a very soft and romantic pop song produced to attract a younger audience. As the third single from her album Heartbeat and without big TV promotion on casting shows or similar events the single lacks the big interest she had a few months ago. It lands at number 33 and very certainly will fall outside the Top 50 very soon.



Besides such clean produced sound this week German Hiphop again strikes back. German rapper FLER is announcing his seventh album Im Bus ganz hinten (Very Back In The Bus – meaning Being The Looser) which is in stores right now (16th September 2011). It is already the second album this year – so FLER right now appears as one of the most productive artists in Germany. First single of the new – presumed to be autobiographical -–disc is Spiegelbild – a track in typical gangster rap style telling the story of the big rap star who loves to diss all behind and under him. He is proud of his new life and enjoying girls, drugs and luxury. Within the refrain FLER tells you how to behave when you’re famous – is it really all a matter of style. The whole story is underlayed with an alarming noise. Could be a very cool clubas well as the sirenes of police cars …



Usually tracks by FLER only spend two or three weeks inside the charts. This one might have a longer chart run cause there is a remix by Die Atzen available which can be purchased as standalone track.


Second German rap star offering new material is Eko Fresh. His new album Ekrem released at Seven Days Music storms the album charts and lands at number 5 – the first time he ever cracked the album Top 10. Simultanously the single Jenseits von Eden (Out Of Eden) is available as download single. It is a cover of the huge hit from 1983 that occupied the Number 1 position for 7 weeks in Germany. Europe wide the English version Guardian Angel by Masquerade (Drafi Deutscher) is probably more known. Eko Fresh now takes the German version and collaborates with the artist who made it popular: Nino de Angelo. Jenseits von Eden was his breakthrough as a popstar and his most successfull hit.

28 years later the song is even more greasy. Perhaps it is cause of the attitude the tough rap star shows. Nino de Angelo in 1983 was crying and lamenting ‚bout the bad world – he did it by singing a real tearjerker. Eko Fresh never did so – he is the strong guy, the man who knows the world. Hearing him asking why the world is so bad and cold sounds quite strange. Is he doing the Sido way – from an aggressive testosterone machine to an settled teacher guy? – On the other hand it seems really hip duetting with former Schlager stars in German HipHop. Three years ago Bushido started collaborating with Karel Gott and covering the 80s hit Forever young / Für immer jung. Last year it was Sido performing with Stephan Remmler ... now Eko Fresh tries to impress the audience. Well – the formula is a little nagged, the surprise not really appears. Number 64 is low even more if you consider the duo performed at The Dome aired on September 3rd.




Further new German productions
Rockband LUXUSLÄRM (Luxury Noise) still is kind of an independent act. They are going to release their fourth album named Carousel – last one from 2010 So laut ich kann (As Loud As I Could had a 10 weeks chart performance climbing to number 13. Four singles were released, three of them reached the sales charts. Most successfull was Nichts ist zu spät (Nothing Too Late) that had a four weeks run peaking at position 58.

The track announcing their new album is Atemlos (Breathless). It is a more calmed down track talking about the strength and power that gives a strong love. It is a love song – yes. To me it is LUXUSLÄRM’s most mass appealing track – in terms of hits it did not catch fire. The single is entering at 63 on download sales only.



A new digital single is available by Herbert Grönemeyer too. The third track lifted from his album Schiffsverkehr (Ship Traffic) is Zu Dir (To you) and it is a very heartful rock ballad … a love song too. It is one of the real strong tracks of the album – but most of the people already have the album. So Zu dir will stall at a low number 76 for sure. It is by the way the 35th single that can appear in the German Top 100.



A completely new act is BOY. Opposite to the name it contains of two females from Switzerland and Germany. Little Numbers is a bubbling pop song that makes curious about the album Mutual Friends released same day as the single.


By the way: Swiss acts seem very beloved these days. Mike Candys & Evelyn are joining DJ Antoine at the very top of the list. Latter one right now can launch a tiny follow up in the German chart: Ma Chériewas a hit in Switzerland already in summer 2010. Now with the huge success of Welcoome To St. Tropez some dance floor lovers also catch up the predecessor. Certainly the track never will have that big chart fortune here.




Last week TV show Die ultimative Chartshow launched three three re-appearing hits in the charts. Topic of the show were most successfull piano hits. This week the episode counting the most successfull pop hymns was aired and again there are re-entries due that broadcasting. Winner of the list first shown in January 2010 is Miguel Rios with A Song Of Joy. The audience of 2011 chose Faithless and Insomnia as the most catchy pop hymn. The track re-enters at number 62 and actually we stopped counting how often the track re-entered due to a place in the Ultimative Chartshow. Last time we saw it sneaking in March through the list reaching Number 41. It is now the 54th chart week the track can collect under his belt.
Hit number two was listed at the TV show at a low number 22: Metallica with ist epic Nothing Else Matters. Like Insomnia it is a track that appears again and again inside the charts. Last time that happened in February that year. Nothing Else Matters re-enters this week at 72 – the highest position since January last year when it had an 8 weeks chart run due to it’s airing at ... Die ultimative Chartshow.
Finally also KRYPTERIA can re-enter the charts after performing their hit Liberatio at the show and gaining position 28.

Slow And Long Running Hits

It is still holiday time in Germany. Meaning the recent chart is quite calm and the industry avoids releasing hot new tracks. Only 3 new entries plus 5 re-entries ... well ...

DJ Antoine, Timati & Kalenna profit of lacking competitors and rise further two places to number 4. It is a proper season’s hit now. What it means for the careers of DJ Antoine and Timati I told before. US singer Kalenna now matches the position she entered as a member of DirtyMoney in spring this year. 2011 is the year of her big debut with two Top 5 hits right now.


Slight changes under the best German productions. Leading the pack still Tim Bendzko with Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (number 2) followed by newcomer Casper with So Perfekt (14) and Jupiter Jones’ Still. All three kind of intellectual pop music in sharp difference to most of international productions selling in huge amounts.

On the rise again are Milk&Sugar remixing the Miriam Makeba-song Hi-A Ma Pata Pata: 42–33.

Worth beeing noticed the fact that Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner spend a 70th week in the charts with their Sky And Sand. The track now is noted in the downer half of the charts almost a full year long only spending a few weeks outside the Top 100. Meanwhile UNHEILIG collected 79 weeks with Geboren um zu leben. It is now the third longest seller without a break.

The fun story of the week is i sing a liad für di by Austrian folcloristic singer Andreas Gabalier. He entered the charts first back in April after performing at Carmen Nebel’s TV show. It was a small sensation cause the song wasn’t scheduled for any release. It became popular the last months and a lot of DJs remixed the song. Finally a sublabel of major UNIVERSAL decided to release the original on CD as well in Germany. July th 29th was the day – unfortunately the CD only contains the original recording by Andreas Gabalier himself. Probably that’s the reason why the track enters at a disappointing position 79.

New Stuff Further Down The List

It is the Amy Winehouse week. After her death her tracks also in Germany storms back into the list. You Know I'm No Good can even reach a new peak ...
But it is a Russian-Swiss collaboration that really wrote headlines. DJ Antoine vs. Timati feat. Kalenna rise 12–6 with Welcome To St. Tropez giving all three a first Top 10 hit at all. It is the highest position a Russian artist claimed since All The Things She Said by Russian girl duo t.A.T.u. occupied Number 1 in 2003. Swiss acts are much more present in German charts – the last one climbing number 6 or higher was Stefanie Heinzmann in 2008.

Are you interested in what are the most successful German tracks?
Well – have a look at last week or the week before. They are the same: Tim Bendzko (position 2), Jupiter Jones (14) and Frida Gold (22).

A new German production lands at position 46. It is Laserkraft 3D that can launch a second hit after their 2010 smash Nein, Mann (No, Dude). The new track Weightless shows a completely change in style – it is electronic sound as well, but sounds much more punk (or rock) like than their first hit.Instead of well known spoken lyrics style singer Tim Hoffmann is indeed singing.That’s much confusion – but probably it is the right way to avoid the lifelong comparison with their signature track from last year. Although I doubt that Weightless can rise much higher than its entry position number 46.



Another club track comes in at 58. It is Austrian team Darius & Finlay (actually it is a trio) that can launch a seventh hit in Germany. Here comes the night is a stadium electro track – very similar to a lot of other club tracks. Probably the refrain hookline is something one can really identify the track. They only made it once to the upper half of the charts – this attempt so far also fails.



A naive song coming from France enters very low down at number 92. Lolita or as she is named for German speaking market Lolita Jolie is adoring a Jolie Garçon. The funny thing around the track is, that Lolita Jolie pretends to be German … That might explain why the track comes in a bunch of different mixes – all from German DJs. Since start of July the track is available as a digital download single – now it is released on CD as well and the interest and fun has reached anamount for ranking inside the Top 100.




Last new track entering the German charts comes from Swedish Firefox AK known to her mother as Andrea Kellerman. As singer of Tiger Lou she already had a few releases under her belt. Boom Boom Boom is her first release gaining popularity in Germany.

Dutch Mallorca Sound

What a week: 13 new entries! Only once this year we had more. It was the list of March 4th that welcomed 14 new tracks. – Well, two years ago it was quite usual having 20 or more new tracks in one single week. Times change fast.

13 new tracks doesn’t mean a lot of action. The Top 10 (and even the Top 20) looks almost static: Highest mover as mentioned before is Tim Bendzko who rises 6–3 with Nur noch kurz die Welt retten. Right behind him and a week after its full release Lady Gaga’s The Edge Of Glory slowly fades down. After its raise to number 3 last week it now slides down one place to number 4. Anyway it is the 7th song of Lady Gaga that at least peaked inside the Top 3. The big gainer of last week Lucenzo feat Don Omar and their Danza Kuduro is nailed at number 7. The story behind the track shows that it isn’t „real“ Kuduro at all …
Rising back to the peak she gained almost two month ago Brooke Fraser founds a lot of fans. After her album Flags peaked at number 6 two weeks ago the single Something In The Water benefits from the interest and rose back 13–9–8.

Highest gainer this week is the swiss-russian-american collaboration between DJ Antoine vs Timati feat. Kalenna. The remix of the english version of Welcome To St. Tropez jumps 20–12 and makes Timati the firstRussian artist hitting the Top 20 sinc t.A.T.u. did so in 2003 and 2005. DJ Antoine is the best ranking Swiss act in Germany since the heydays of Stefanie Heinzmann in 2008. So far it took the track 17 weeks for getting finally that high – it started somewhen inApril at a low number 79. Assuming the track will rise further the next week one can say already now: that’s what we call a chart career full of tension.

Also on the rise – although much slower – Katy Perry with Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) is. She moved so far 22–21–18–17. Will she finally reach the Top 10?


All the tracks new in the list gather lower than position 30. Nine of them are German productions. What sounds exciting is indeed not that powerful. The most successful German tracks are still the same:
1. Tim Bendzko Nur noch kurz die Welt retten
2. Jupiter Jones Still
3. Frida Gold Wovon sollen wir träumen
All three inside the Top 20 and all three using the German language – that’s quite a feat.

Most successfull German track new on CD is Schatzi, schenk mir ein Foto (Honey, Give Me A Fotograph) which is newly released in a summer version including new Mallorca party mixes. The discofox techno sound still is very very popular in Germany and especially in Germans holiday destinations like Mallorca. So the new mixes caused a new interest – the party song now reaches a new peak at number 40 almost axactly 6 months after the song first appeared in the charts.



With the new edition the credits were changed by the company. The first release from the early 2011 was credited to Mickie Krause feat. Ko&Ko as the brothers from the Netherlands who wrote the song in original were participating in the recording as well. The new release only shows Mickie Krause at the cover although the version together with Gebroeders Ko is on the CD as well. The brothers probably don’t mind cause they are right now a featured act on Markus Becker’s new single. The Mallorca singer recorded their Heli-Heli Helikopter and took both into the studio as well. The result is now in shops and starts in the charts at number 52.



And there is a third Mallorca discofox party song originally released in Dutch entering the German charts. It is Dos cervezas por favor by Belgian (Flamish) actor Tom Waes which is now translated into German by Ina Colada. Do I have to say something more about that …? – Well, it enters at number 59 and gives Miss Colada a second chart hit.

And another stupid Mallorca hit: Vater Abraham (…hat 7 Söhne) (Father Abraham has 7 sons) by Tim Toupet also released as CD on 15th of July (I guess it’s quite unique that all these tracks appear in one week – probably the labels have some commitments). It starts at posiiton 76.




The Other New German Releases (and there are a lot!)

The Beatsteaks also have a new single. Automatic is not that significant as predecessor Cheap Moments was, but it sells much better – probably cause its kind of the title track of their album Boombox. Automatic starts at number 43. It is nothing more than the third track of the Beatsteaks reaching the upper half of the charts.



Jennifer Rostock had their first hit in 2008 after taking part at Stefan Raab’s Bundesvision Song Contest. Since than they appear continouosly with new material – they are one of the few German electropunk bands with a major label contract. Now their third album Mit Haut und Haar (Neck And Crop) is released – two weeks before the single Keiner nimmt mir Mein Mikrofon (Nobody Can Take Away My Microphone – sometimes shortened to Mein Mikrofon) is out. It is a powerful song about the strong will not to be silent and live own dreams. The band continues in their own style – only the refrain seems a little more mass compatible than earlier recordings. In September the band again will take part at Bundesvision Song Contest. Than a new single will be available.



New Single coming from Samy Deluxe is PoesieAlbum (Autograph Album) – it is the lead single of recent album Schwarz Weiss (Black White). Samy Deluxe is one of the serious German rap stars concerning more about society and life than their colleagues from AGGRO Berlin or ersguterjunge. Listening to the new track it is indeed a battle good vs. bad HipHop – very self-referred, but in musical terms a masterpiece. I’ve never heard before a German hiphop star rapping that fast – unbelievable. The first position for PoesieAlbum is number 63.




Söhne Mannheims (Sons Of Mannheim) are kind of a super group. Led by German soul singer no.1 Xavier Naidoo they already have four albums under their belt – all sold in proper amounts reaching top positions of the album list. The second single of their recent album is Freiheit. According to their homepage it is a hommage to the Arabian spring revolutions. The lyrics are much more unspecific defining what freedom is. A soulful ballad as well known from the sons – unfortunatly that’s what most people think, the track just can enter position 77



The new Söhne Mannheims single muc more supports the last Xavier Naidoo single. Bitte hör nicht auf zu träumen (Please Don’t Stop Dreaming) had achieved some new interest during last weeks. It is quite unknown what really caused the new popularity. At least last reports that Xavier Naidoo will be member of a jury at announced TV show The Voice Of Germany might making people more focused on him. Bitte hör nicht auf zu träumen is rising actually to number 45 the highest place since start of this year.





Four years ago the summer hit was a Spanish one sung by a band from Hannover: Marquess. The four guys had a lot of fun and almost three years of real success. Than they made a two years break and now they are back again. With a Spanish song of course named Chapoteo. Unfortunatly they didn’t get the real new idea in the last two years. It is an easy melody, it is a song with simple lyrics – and it is not at all that kind of catchy tune some others of them were. That’s a pity. The comeback starts at number 70.



Dancefloor project Michael Mind Project started last week with Ready Or Not. It is a track on which Sean Kingston sings – it entered the list at 55. Now it tumbles down to 71.



At last a trivia: at wednesday 20th July the German TV broadcasted Song Beneath The Song probably the most emotional episode of the 7th season of Grey’s Anatomy. This episode is made as a complete musical – one of the songs appearing in the show is Chasing Cars. Obviously it moved the German auditorium as well – the original recording by Snow Patrol enters the German charts for a 61st week at 78. Here is the scene in question.


And finally Disney serial Lemonade Mouth arrives in German free TV. First track appearing in the charts is Determinate which sneaks in at position 92. +

ECHO stories

Yes – I told you in the short flash on Tuesday that there is no story about the recent list of most sold single tracks in Germany. But you know – never trust a single blogger. There is always something to tell. At least some tales about older tracks still crowding up the charts. One of these songs is Rolling In The Deep by English singer Adele which climbs back four places to No.4 after her performances in Germany. In her home country the UK she just broke the record of holding most weeks at No.1 in the album charts as a female soloist by standng there for 10 weeks. She not only dethroned queen of pop Madonna – she also occupies the No.2 of the album list with her predecessor album 19 and is No.1 in the track list with Someone Like You. Chart commentator James Masterton actually only find these words: Stop Buying Adele Records.

Of course also in Germany Adele is one of the most talked about artists of the moment. There are countless features about her on TV most popular probably her performance at the more or less boring ECHO award ceremony broadcasted on 24th March. Needless to say that everybody’s darling found her way to the underground mashup scenery as well. For having a little taste of what’s going on I present one of my favourites right here:


Divide & Create – Crazy In The Deep .... Adele vs. Gnarls Barkley

In companion with Rolling In The Deep a second track from Adele’s album 21 is entering the list as an album cut. We’re talking ’bout Set Fire To The Rain a heart touching ballad which is announced as the next official single release. It has by now no scheduled release date but sits actually at 89 on downloads only.


Another act benefiting from the ECHO is British HURTS. They got the award as best international newcomer and performed live as well. Stay jumps back 13 – 8 and their hit Wonderful Life does so 66 – 49 in its 34th chart week.

Most successful German track still is Strobo Pop. Die Atzen mit Nena climb one place to 14. Second place in the German only survey is still Lena with her Taken by a Stranger sliding 23 – 27 in the official tracks list. And even culcha candela is still the third of the German tracks with Berlin City Girl sliding 28 –32. One who should be a candidate of bringing tracks to a larger audience is Clueso. He lands this week the highest CD album start at No.2 in that list.The single Zu schnell vorbei (Over too fast) taken from that album jumps up the list 53 – 42. That’s unfortunately not enough to share the crown of the most popular German tracks. But there is hope: his last hit Gewinner (Winner) took 16 week in 2009 to peak at 21.

Are you interested what else is going in German music business? Well – a new mixture of Atzen sound and brainless party discofox has entered the club scene. „Inventors“ of the sound is the DJ duo Finger & Kadel. They already had a medium hit with Die mit dem roten halsband (The one with the red collar) in late 2007 under the name Frank Styles presented by F&K. After getting that attention for the first time they produced much more for the clubs and dancefloor the following years. Always sampling short German lyrics. Finally they chose one of the most popular German party hits called Wahnsinn first released in 1983 by Wolfgang Petry. The song had some short chart appearances in the version of Die Lollies (1998) and DJ Nordkurve (2002) – the most successful take was the one of Wolfgang Petry’s son Achim Petry who recorded it for the 2008 season of the so called Dschungel Camp. The latter went to Nr. 17 in the German charts. Now a next try is starting its chart life. Finger & Kadel mixed the chorus with some Benny Benassi sounds and lyrics. As I said before – to me it sounds like the next step of the very popular Atzen sound but it’s very unlikely that the track will rise higher (new entry at 58).




The original version of 1983

German rapper Fler offers a second track from his recent album Airmax Muzik II. Predecessor Nie an mich geglaubt (Never believed in me) was a digital only release spending one single week at No.64 in February. Minutentakt (Minute Circle) comes as a full CD release but performs only slightly better. No.60 in the week of its release is far away from the success he had a few years ago.




At 79 one of the very few Russian chart acts appears with a new track. I personally remember only three acts have been charted in Germany. The fourth and most recent is rapper Timati. Two years ago he appeared for the first time with a minor hit accompanied by US star Snoop Dogg. The following years he collaborated with big names like Busta Rhymes, Xzibit or P. Diddy.The latest international offer reatured upcoming Kalenna Harper of Diddy’s side project DirtyMoney. The track Welcome To St. Tropez first released 2009 in a Russian version with Blue Marine is available in English for a few months. A remixed version by Swiss DJ Antoine found its way on a few club compilations and finally catches fire. The Official Dance Charts see the track actually rising 14 – 12 and this week the track enters the singles chart on download sales at No.79 making Timati the second Rusian artist with more than a single chart hit.


Russian version

Finally at the very end of the list we see Norwegian a-ha returning into the chart. A track from their Good by live album Ending On A High Note made it on downloads to the charts. It is their hit from the year 2000 Summer Moved On which charted exactly 11 years ago No.8 giving the band a Top 10 hit after a 10 years break. Afterwards it took the band another 9 years to launch what should be their second biggest hit ever Foot Of The Mountain. The live version of Summer Moved On enters at 90.
