May 29th 15: Euro...what?

What a week! What a race! Friday and Saturday Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson led the survey all alone. On Sunday clearly Måns Zelmerlöw had his Eurovision supported sales peak followed by a very strong album supported Sarah Connor who was reported as number 1 on Midweek charts. Finally the old no.1 had some more steam at all and Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) holds firm for a fourth week. Which makes again the story of the week not going on at the very Top. But on the runners up position. Wie schön du bist by Sarah Connor takes a six places leap to #2 and gives the singer her highest appearance since her last no.1 hit From Zero To Hero which dates back 10 years already. Definitely she now is back in business as her album Muttersprache immediately flies to no.1 too where she landed a decade ago for the one and only time.

Newly at number 3 and of course a story as well Swedish Eurovision winner Måns Zelmerlöw comes in with his winning song Heroes. It is the fourth consecutive year that the winning song of the show can enter the Top5 a feat only seen between 1964 and 1967. So the contest really is as popular as hardly before.
Måns Zelmerlöw meanwhile also is the best performing Swedish act since AVICII topped the list with Hey Brother in November 2013. One might find strong similarities between the songs–well, Swedish dance pop sounds like this and obviously still rules at least whole Europe.

Eurovisions No.4 is Germany's second: Belgian Loic Nottet lands at number 21 with Rythm Inside which is the second highest charting Belgian Eurovision entry. Only Tom Dice (sixth in 2010) had the chance of grabbing number 20 in Germany. As a fourth place Rhythm Inside gots the highest chart entry since 1965. Back than Udo Jürgens climbed to #9 with his no.4 song Sag' ihr ich lass sie grüßen.

German entry Black Smoke by Ann Sophie re-enters at #26 increasing her result after her nomination slightly. It is the worst result for a Eurovision entry since 2003 when Lou completely missed the charts. On the other hand Lou did much better on the contest by landing at number 11. Ann Sophie did not get any single point in Vienna and joins Austrian The Makemakes at the very latest rank which is the lowest place a German entry ever achieved (although there were years when the German entry didn't get any point).

All in all this Eurovision is as popular as hardly before. For the first time in history the first nine songs voted in the final make it in the charts also.


Impact number 3 came by second episode of this year's Sing meinen Song show. Participants had to choose a favorite song originally recorded by Andreas Bourani which boosts the songs of the singer again. Newly inside the list shoots the title track of his 2014 album Hey which was performed by Yvonne Catterfeld on the show. The original lands at #30.


Spending a 81st consecutive week on the survey Atemlos durch die Nacht by Helene Fischer now is the fifth longest running chart song without any break. There are another 15 weeks to go for eclipsing the record set by gossip in 2011 with Heavy Cross. Viewing all chart weeks Atemlos durch die Nacht collected so far 85 weeks what is a proper rank 13 on the all time list.

May 1st 15 II: New release rhythm of the charts

There ain't boring weeks in chart business isn't it. As there is no action due to numbers and ranks I can tell you a big change launched by chart compiling institute media control. With sales week starting at 24th of April it releases the actual charts on Friday after end of sales already. So within 24 hours one gets the result of what was bought and downloaded most. In the UK the charts appear that way long time. German officials always wanted to be something special. And completely misinterpreted technical possibilities. Alternative download charts like iTunes or even amazons list became more and more popular due to their in-time-availability. This development was even supported by media controls strict publishing policies. Long time they sued every platform that published the charts.

Now the official chart company realizes its weak position and tries to strike back. With an even more complicated innovation. Since start of April 2015 the company launches the Mega Charts which summarize all music adoption whether it is by sales or streaming (audio AND video) or airplay. Number 1 is the track with most uses–as we know it from all other sales charts over the whole world. The official sales charts which are so far the most anticipated still reflects the amount of money the tracks generated by sales. So a sold CD single counts three to four times of a digital sale.
I guess it is only a question of time and that German speciality will disappear in meaninglessness.


That was the story of the week. What about music?
As we see again a complete static Top3 one might think there is no story to tell. Well–number 1 track See You Again by Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth adds a fourth week on its account. It is the first rap containing track from the US since summer 2013 that manages such a feat. Back than it was T.I. who accompanied Robin Thicke & Pharrell on Blurred Lines and had exactly a four weeks run at number 1.
Searching for a US rapper as leading act on a number 1 song that held firm for at least four weeks we have to go back as far as to May 2005. Exactly 10 years ago Akon had his first international success. The single in question was Lonely and occupied the top for eight long weeks. No question that track was a romantic ballade too.

In the UK See You Again is on the way down. Dethroned by a track that had its number 1 ride here on February. Scanning the news for Germany there are two singles that could rocket into the top10 in one week time as Sarah Connor and Lena offered new material. Will one of these releases fly to number 1?


At number 19 the new single Stole The Show by KYGO enters the Top20 with making the third Norwegian production appearing simultaneously there. By also watching Aurora entering the list at number 78 with Running With The Wolves there are five songs from Norway inside the list–did we ever had such a situation in Germany?

Highest new entry comes in at number 22. It is the Farin Urlaub Racingteam with iDISCO. It is the 15th solo chart entry for the member of Die Ärzte. By all of them missing the Top10 the very successful musician is one of the chart acts failing most time to get inside the Hot10. The one with most hits and never getting over number 11 is Westernhagen who already launched 23 chart entries and peaking at number 12.

Youtube stars Taddl, Ardy and Marley formed the trio DAT ADAM which sees its debut album Chrome flying to number 5 inside the album list. As this release actually is an EP containing only six tracks it is even more impressive having four of them inside the singles list too as there are 700 Main Str. at 38, Forrest at 82, UFO at 91 and DFA at 92.

29-12 (July 20th 12): Swedish Sound Vs. CRO

Another busy week. 14 new entries–2 songs re-entering the charts. The German audience is looking for new sound. And finds it in the shape of Swedish productions and German rapper CRO. But first things first ...

I Follow Rivers holds firm at the Top of the singles charts in Germany. So LYKKE LI is much more than a one week wonder. The cover by Belgish Triggerfinger flies to number 12 after their performance before the boxing fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Tony Thompson on 7th June. Of course the appearance of Klitschko on TV raises interest again in his entrance song coming from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Can’t Stop has a short visit in the list at the lower end.

Back to the Top again: After releasing a proper video Loreen can rise back to number 2 with her Euphoria which gives Sweden a double at the very Top. Last time two Swedish acts occupied the German singles list right at number 1 and 2 was back 20 years. On September 14th in 1992 the number one was It’s My Life by Dr. Alban, number 2 for a single week was How Do You Do! by Roxette. As the early 90ies were one of the most succesful for Swedish acts we might have right now a renaissance of the Scandinavian country. Actually there are five tracks recorded by Swedish artists inside the current singles list. Last week there were even six tracks plus Flo Rida's Good Feeling which actually bases on track recorded by a Swedish DJ. The newest act coming from Sweden is Jonas Myrin. His song Day Of The Battle enters at number 86.

Sweden is not the only country besides the US and the UK that influences the business these days. Also Switzerland and Canada have a big impact by bringing five tracks each in the list.

A slightly new player on the field of pop exports is Brazil. But Gusttavo Lima is already the second act in 2012 reaching the Top 10. Balada (Tchê tcherere tchê tchê) rises to number 5 this current week.


A final Top 10 story: this week Tage wie diese by Die Toten Hosen spends its 16th week inside the Top 10. It is now the song staying for the longest time that high in 2012. By sliding down to number 7 it is also the lowest rank for the best sold German production since end of march when Leider geil by Deichkind “only” reached number 8.

Tage wie diese leads us direct to the very end of the chart again. Once again a copy version released by Nasty Orange Records can enter the list. It is this time Tage wie diese which can enter the list at number 85.



The star of the week is once again German rapper CRO. His debut album Raop enters easily number 1 of the album charts. From the album also the track Einmal um die Welt (Once Around The World) enters the singles list and is the highest new entry by landing at number 35. It is indeed a very surprising rap pop song with cool rhymes and lyrics celebrating the fun of the moment and praising love much stronger than any money on earth.



At the very lower end also Ein Teil and Nie mehr enter the list.


All in all there are eight of the 12 regular album tracks in the singles list which makes CRO the most visible artist of a single week in whole 2012. A fortnight ago Linkin Park had seven tracks in the list. This mark is broken right now. Last artist invading the weekly charts in that amount was David Guetta in September last year. With nine simultanous single hits coming from a living artist he has the crown in that category. A release of an album also supports the single of Chima. Morgen can jump back to number 29 in the singles list meanwhile Stille enters the album survey at number 22. Single number two from the album Himmel auf (Heaven Open) by Silbermond is FDSMH Für dich schlägt mein Herz (For You My Heart Is Beating). Landing at number 53 it is one of the worst performing singles of the band.


Chart single number three for Chemnitz band Kraftklub is Kein Liebeslied (Not A Lovesong). Although they never wanted the celebrated losers of the young generation now are arrived in Berlin. And a lot of girls is fancying them. Not singing a love song doesn’t help. Poor guys.

Single number three from the album Befehl von ganz unten (Order From Far Below) by Deichkind is Der Mond. After their success Leider geil the new single is a surprising pop song. Probably the band is one of the most non predictable in Germany.

Last new entry: Y’Akoto is a singer living in Hamburg, Bamako and Paris. Her debut album was released in april this year. Third single lifted from this can made it as her single charts debut in the list. Standing at number 100 she is the third act this current year making a debut at the very last position of the list. The song itself is a soulful pop track ranging in the style of Ivy Quainoo. Seems that soul from Germany will become an own genre.


Rising tracks: Wide Awake by Katy Perry finally reaches the Top 50. After their performance in the daily soap Gute Zeiten Schlechte Zeiten (Good Times Bad times) on 6th July The Overtones see their Gambling Man rising again. It lands at number 69 in its 16th chart week.

Adele is a real superstar. After her announcement that she is pregnant sales of her singles are rising again. Someone Like You goes 77–64, Rolling In The Deep makes a 92–72 leap in its 80ths chart week.

Records are broken: Pitbull enters (alongside jay sean) with a 12th song this year–I’m All Yours delivers also the 100th chart week this current year. Both makes him the most active and most visible artist this year. Closest competitor David Guetta tries to follow hard on the heels. There are new remixes announced for his latest single I Can Only Imagine featuring Chris Brown & Lil Wayne. Two weeks before the official release of these mixes the track re-enters the list.

28-12: CRO Leads The Big Turnover

Oops–there is an almost completely new Top 3 listed in Germany’s sales charts. The big surprise is the six places leap taken by Swedish LYKKE LI which makes her a pretty Number act. I Follow Rivers had a million audience by being performed on the opening of the fight Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson on 7th of June. Belgian band Triggerfinger were live on stage in Berne. The original version by Lykke Li obviously can benefit of that performance much more than the cover. Probably the announced re-edition of her 2011 album Wounded Rhymes also raised interest in the single. Triggerfinger itself see its version sliding 41–46.



LYKKE LI is already the second Swedish act this year topping the German charts. A month before it was Eurovision winner Loreen who did so. Having two Swedish productions at the Top in one year is a feat we’ve last seen in 1995. Back than it was Rednex that occupied the top spot with Cotton Eye Joe for a whole 10 weeks at the end of 1994 till mid January 1995. Five months later the project again hold the most sold single for six weeks with Wish You Were Here.


Number 2 is new German rap star CRO. His second official single DU (You) storms up the list and only narrowly misses the Top spot.



For promoting his album release on July the 6th CRO released two further tracks. King Of Roap–the intro song of the album Raop–was available from 30th June on and enters the list at number 24. A day later Meine Zeit (My Time) followed. It starts chart life at number 33.



CRO this current week has five tracks invading the charts. After the performance of Linkin Park last issue with seven tracks it is the next weekly superstar. Alongside Flo Rida he is the artist with the most simultanous hits in this week. Considering the fact that all five songs are pre-releases of the album which is still not available one might know what we should expect for the nearest future.



Rising in big leaps Asaf Avidan’s Reckoning Song mixed by Wankelmut and newly named One Day is reaching number 17. Finally a video is available and the official release of the track was set on July the 6th–so watch out for the position next issue. Probably that track is one of the big summer tunes.



Further summer hits rise up the list. After her first performances in Germany Rita Ora accompanied by DJ Fresh now enters the Top 50. Hot Right Now ranks at number 38 in its third chart week. Also Move In The Right Direction by gossip rises continously and Silhouettes by AVICII reenters the list.

Beside these really upcoming hits also some well known tunes can gain attention again. David Guetta Feat Nicki Minaj bounce back to number 64 with their Turn Me On and One Direction see their What Makes You Beautiful rising again 97–69. Flo Rida can boost his two last singles Wild Ones and Good Feeling for once again by releasing Let It Roll online. The elder tracks are turning back to number 70 respectively number 86, the new one is entering 59. Also the release of Chris Brown’s latest album Fortune raises new interest in the first single off it. Turn Up The Music is back in the list at number 82–the album starts chart life at number 13.


German releases
Newcomer Alexander Knappe is the latest of a whole bunch of German singer songwriter who can gain attention. Weil ich wieder zuhause bin (Cause I’m Home Again) ranks on a level with songs by Tim Bendzko, Andreas Bourani, Philip Poisel or Mark Forster. The song is about the feeling of coming home and feeling secure. Sound and lyrics are fully packed with nostalgy and romantic.




Another German newcomer in the singles list is BAKKUSHAN. The band coming from Mannheim is popular amongst youngsters and teens for already two years. Its second album will be released right now–as a teaser the single Nur die Nacht (Only The Night) can made it into the sales charts. It is a powerful indie rock song about a split. Nothing will be like it was before–that’s the bottom line of the song. All in all the new sound is much more radio friendly and singalong like than the songs from the first album.





The latest story is a kind of an oddity again. Supported by a TV campaign of Kabel Eins for its summer comedy programme Diese Tage by KRIS Feat. Dante Thomas is something like a medium hit. This current week it slides softly down 56–63. Additionally a cover version by a no name project is entering the list at number 100. It is almost an identical version credited to Ich liebe diese Tage released by a company called Nasty Orange Records. In its catalogue there are only cheap copies of well known hits. By changing the rules of chart eligibility a few weeks ago such versions are automatically counted for the charts also. Probably we will see much more of such copies entering the charts in the next future.




And for all fans of statistics an additional information. This week Pitbull took another step of becoming the most visible artist inside the German charts for the current decade. Last week he overtook David Guetta as the artist spending the most weeks inside the list in 2012. This current week he leaves Rihanna behind in the survey counting all weeks from January 2010 on. Only David Guetta collected more single rankings in the last two and a half year. – Cheers!

17-12: Long selling casting show tracks

There is a new number 1 single in Germany. Alex Clare rises two places and sees his Too Close shining at the top spot. The soundtrack of the Internet Explorer commercial is the first dubstep number 1 in Germany. So it took the style more than two years to achieve the success it has already in his home country Britain.

Having a new number 1 means Olly Murs & Rizzle Kicks have to clear the way. Heart Skips A Beat tumbles impressive six places to number 7. It is the deepest fall off the number 1 position since Pietro Lombardi did so in June last year after his Call My Name occupied the top spot for four weeks.

Further Top 10 action
Now they are 30. Die Toten Hosen had their very first performance on 10th April 1982. Of course a lot of papers, radios and TV stations celebrated that anniversary with stories and specials. The huge media presence helps lifting the actual Hosen single to number 2. It is the biggest jump inside the Top 10.

The hot phase of the DSDS casting started on 14th April when the last four aspirants performed for qualification to the next round. The most succesful performance in chart terms actually was again the one of Jesse Ritch who offered a version on She doesn’t Mind which is a recent hit by Sean Paul. After the Saturday night show the single got a sales boost landing again at number 3 in its 11th week inside the Top 10. Poor Jesse had to leave the show a week later.

Of course also other DSDS candidates made their impact on the charts. Again a Top 20 hit is Eiserner Steg by Philipp Poisel. Luca Hänni–one of the big favourites and finally the winner–performed the song and caused the second big demand for the original single. Back in January the song reached number 4 after Benny Fiedler performed the song on The Voice of Germany. A week later the contestant was voted off the show … Luca Hänni had a completely different destiny.

Also the songs chosen by Luca for the category pop and rock reach the list after his performance. Beautiful People originally recorded by Chris Brown & Benny Benassi so far collected 25 chart weeks with a peak at number 30. Now it is back at number 42. Respect! The rock song Chasing Cars already collected 64 weeks in 14 chart runs. For sure that’s the reason why we see the original recording by Snow Patrol only sneak in the list at the lowest end.

Speaking about songs with many chart runs we can switch to the next contestant. Daniele Negroni helps the Kings_Of_Leon back in the charts. Sex_On_Fire charted a month ago last when Use Somebody re-appeared after a performance by combatant Luca Hänni. After Daniele staged with Sex_On_Fire the song jumps back to number 41 which is the highest position since three years. All in all the track now enters the list for the 13th time and slowly approaches the all time record set by Last Christmas in the version of Wham! which charted 16 times in its career. Another song joins the drop in drop out statistic at the top: Das Beste by Silbermond had 14 chart runs.

German productions
Best new single start this week comes from Monrose singer Mandy Capristo. First she appeared at the end of last year alongside Peter Maffay on his sixth Tabaluga album. Now she comes with an own song collection from which The Way I Like It is the first single. It is a well penned pop song written and produced by David Jost who also is the man behind number 1 singles Geronimo by Aura Dione and I Like by Keri Hilson. The Way I Like It is much softer and fits perfectly the mainstream radio sound. So it probably has chances of becoming a real hit. Mandy Capristo might have some hopes for a longer solo career after this start.



Next significant move comes from German Baku star Roman Lob. The song Standing Still so far performed … annoying. After a good start at number 3 it tumbled out of the Top 20 sliding down to number 45. That drop was “supported” by the strange release policy for the video. Some days it was blocked – a few days it was available only on some special platforms … A month before the Eurovison contest his debut album Changes is in stores and can reach number 9 on the album list. The album gives the single a boost again and that jumps to number 19 which is the second highest ranking so far for the song. Let’s wait another four weeks when the contest is over and we’ll see the single flying to better heights probably.

Also Die Ärzte (The Doctors) have a new album in stores. auch (also) storms to Number 1 directly and lifts the single zeiDverschwÄndung (Waste of Time) back into the upper half of the survey.

A pre prime time serial gets more and more attention. Berlin – Tag & Nacht (Berlin–Night & Day) is something in between Big Brother and a regular daily soap. It is the story of people who share a flat in Berlin. The soap started back in September past year achieving only low rates. Already at the end of the year the interest was pretty high and even now the amount of followers rises staedily. There are actual reports seeing the soap overtaking such formats like the soft science magazine Galileo and the long time soap Alles was zählt (All That Matters). One of the song featured on Berlin – Tag & Nacht is ECHT by duo Glasperlenspiel. Since the start of the soap the track sneaks through the list peaking at number 9. This week it jumps again 95–73 in its 32nd chart week.



European Stuff
What works for German productions also does for international ones. Morten Harket offered his single Scared Of Heights which entered the list two weeks ago at number 48. Then it dropped as low as number 92 for bouncing back now to number 60 cause of the release of his album Out Of My Hands which debuts at an overwhelming number 3.

Spanish Sak Noel comes with part II of his Crazy Society trilogy. The formula does work in clubs. The mainstream isn’t that much infected as Paso (The Nini Anthem) starts its chart life at number 66.



How British acts are released in Germany is always a thing very hard to understand. example had a hit in Germany with Changed The Way You Kiss me in autumn 2011. It was the first appearance in German charts for the producer. Now Kickstarts was released as a single. It is a convincing and cool song of course. Anyway I don’t understand why Vertigo/UNIVERSAL decided to promote this track as the next single. Well, it was the most successful track of the 2010 album Won’t Quietly in Britain. Releasing older singles after a hit is quite common–but does this decision really makes sense? Wouldn’t it be much better to release the second British number 1 hit Stay Awake? A&R people for sure know what they do. example so far sees his second chart hit enter at a very low number 72. Hopefully soon the label will find a better strategy for promoting his tracks.



French DJ and producer Martin Solveig has a new offering available. After he had produced for Madonna some tracks he should be counted as one of the big players in business. His E.P. The Night Out does not fully match that expectation. After two weeks on sale as download album it sneaks in the list at number 99.

Who loves German music?

Germany’s music lovers are lazy or tired of buying always the same sound. Or lazy of buying new CDs at all. Why do you spend money for music? Cause you are crazy about it, you want to listen to it again and again, you want to own it. Mostly you need no longer then a few days and you are looking for some new stuff. That’s how the music market all over the world works. It doesn’t work so well right now in Germany. We do have an almost static Top 15 this week. The newest song inside the Top 15 is number 2 – Sweat by Snoop Dogg vs David Guetta which is in the list for four weeks. A complete month without any attracting new release.

Highest new climber to the upper regions sits at 16 with Aloe Blacc jumping 17 places and finally pushing his Loving You Is Killing Me to Top 20 status. In its fourth chart week the track shows as a real successor of huge hit I Need A Dollar that climbed up to number 4 last autumn. The new track appears at some compilations such as BRAVO Black Hits 24 or the soundtrack of Germanys Next Top Model. Due to that TV show the track finally attracts some more people than it could as a pure CD single. By the way – CD market in Germany seems more and more under pressure. The Aloe Blacc single is not available everywhere. Even the biggest online seller amazon only lists the digital download version. That is a reason too why the track does not show up higher in the list. The rule of chart compiling media control of counting the amount of money spent on musci sales turns into a clear detriment for online singles. Probably this policy will be skipped very soon.

Almost the same story to tell about German production. We had to welcome in the last few weeks a lot of new German music – but the most successful track is still Strobo Pop by Die Atzen mit Nena which goes no higher than number 18 this week.
Number 2 of the German only list is occupied by Jupiter Jones and their first single hit Still. The band had some TV appearances – all outside the classic music industry shows. Finally they also appearedin the soap opera Hand aufs Herz (To be honest / Hand on your heart) which reaches a more younger audience. That constant presence made the single Still kind of a slow burner. In its seventh chart week the track reaches the Top 20 – right at number 20.

Back as one of the three most popular (most sold) German tracks is Berlin City Girl by Berlin culcha candela. The track slides one place down in the official chart to number 32.It is already the14th chart week.

Talking bout German music we should have a look to the album charts. Highest new entry there are The Baseballs. Their second album Strings’n’stripes enters the list at number 6. Sounds good isn’t it? But let’s have a look outside Germany. In Austria the album starts at number 3, in Switzerland even at number 1. Topping the story their debut album Strike hit the list in the UK at number 4 – Germany only saw it at number 6. You probably know what I am going to tell you: German music is not that popular in Germany as it is outside. No wonder the single of The Baseballs Hello only enters the list at 100. In Austria it already climbed to number 41, Switzerland reports number 68. The original by Martin Solveig + Dragonette reigns in Germany still at number 11.

New entry at number 18 of the album chart are Frida Gold. Their debut single Zeig mir wie du tanzt (Show Me How You Dance) was highly promoted in November last year. Now the album Juwel (Jewel) follows and can gain number 18. Simoultaneously the second single Wovon sollen wir träumen (Of What We Should Dream Of) is climbing back the singles list to number 48.

Back in the charts after a one year break is the most successful act of the past two decades Scooter. Friends Turbo is the 45th chart entry for the trio. As they were a closed phenomenon always existing completely besides all trends and hypes they finally start to self-reference. Friends Turbo is nothing less than a cover of their number 3 hit Friends released in 1995. The honour of bringing Scooter back to life (although they never were dead in between) goes to a Dutch movie which just now came to German theatres: New Kids Turbo. The movie broke end of last year the Dutch record of people watching it at the very first weekend. In Germany the movie shot to number 1 at the first week too. So – be aware Friends Turbo jumping up the list in two weeks also. Meanwhile Scooter does have an 18th consecutive year at least one chart hit per year.

Keine neuen CDs - und sonst?

Is' natürlich ein wenig harsch formuliert. Allerdings: eine Woche mit lediglich sechs New Entries (2 davon sogar Wiedereinsteiger), das ist wirklich nicht berauschend und für dieses Jahr sogar die statischste Liste. Selbst in der ersten Januarwoche, die traditionell nicht so arg durcheinander gewirbelt wird, gab es mehr Bewegung.

Also: werfen wir einen Blick auf das, was da vielleicht schon ein paar Tage alt ist. Wie zum Beispiel Selena Gomez & The Scene. Vor zwei Wochen debütierte Disney-Star mit dem Titel Naturally auf der 20. Das schien dann irgendwie ein Strohfeuer zu sein, wie so einiges was da in den Disney-Fernsehserien produziert wird: gezielt auf einen Fanmarkt produziert, deshalb bei Erscheinen auch ganz gut gefragt, und dann aber ziemlich schnell wieder weg. Nichts von Dauer. In gewisser Weise auch Fast Food-Music (auch wenn bei Disney das Ganze sogar noch ziemlich authentisch rüberkommt). So ging's also auch für Selena Gomez & The Scene nach dem Start ziemlich schnell abwärts. Allerdings: dann erschien am 23. April das Album Kiss & Tell, welches sogar ganz gut startete. In der aktuellen Liste von media control wird es auf Platz 20 gelistet – der Effekt, bereits bekannt, auch die Single kann nochmal punkten, in diesem Fall sogar ordentlich: Naturally legt komplette 13 Plätze zu und landet auf Platz 14. Und jetzt höre ich mir den Titel also schon zum sechsten mal an und muss sagen, doch, das ist schon ganz eingängiger Pop. Nicht wahnsinnig innovativ und überraschend, aber hey, hier geht es um den Alltagshit. Und den legt Selena Gomez doch ziemlich überzeugend hin. Ob es wie in Großbritannien dann auch hierzulande noch reichen wird, um die Top 10 zu entern … naja, da zweifel ich ein wenig.

Soll ich noch was zu NENA schreiben? Hab ich nicht schon alles zum aktuellen Stand gesagt? – Einzige große Neuigkeit: Am 25. April gab es doch wirklich Gold für das Album Made In Germany. Nun kann man ja über einige ihrer Titel auf dem aktuellen Album auch sehr geteilter Meinung sein. Muss man wirklich stolz drauf sein, aus Deutschland zu kommen? Oder besser: worin besteht denn dieser stolz hier oder da geboren zu sein? Ist doch eigentlich nur ne Ortskonstante zu der ich erstnmal gar nichts beigetragen habe. ich mein, würd ich jemals sagen: "Ich bin stolz im Wald geboren worden zu sein?" – Also das ist dann nochmal ne andere Geschichte. Und das mit dem Nationalstolz geht ja sowieso jetzt erst wieder richtig los.

Was ich eigentlich los werden wollte: Ihr aktueller Song In meinem Leben enthält durchaus klasse Passagen "Ich hab viel gelebt und geweint … und Drogen nehm' ich auch …". Das gefällt mir schon allein deshalb, weil es mal ein bisschen von dieser krassen Ordnungs-Hysterie weg geht, die allerorten herrscht. Obwohl das öffentliche Bekenntnis, "Hallo, ich nehme Drogen!" ja auch nicht soooo wahnsinnig viel Mut verlangt. Oder etwa doch? Könnten wir jetzt lang drüber diskutieren, warum eine 50jährige NENA so etwas sagt? Weil ihr als quasi Nationalheiligtum sowieso niemand mehr irgendwas kann? Ich glaubs ihr jedenfalls und find es wesentlich besser als diese total verkoksten Nasen, die alles abstreiten was irgendwie nach Genuss aussehen könnte.

Und was war der Anlass für diesen Exkurs? Richtig: NENA steht mit In meinem Leben immer noch/mal wieder in den deutschen Top 20, ermittelt von media control. Und was daran nett ist: seit dieser Woche hat sie auf eine längere Chartkarriere zu verweisen als Depeche Mode, nämlich auf genau 27 Jahre und 239 Tage. Aber was heisst das schon: Udo Jürgens, der ja auch kürzlich erst wieder Hit-Ehren feiern durfte, wird schon seit mehr als 50 Jahren notiert.


Zu den etwas langsamer wachsenden bzw. anhaltenden Hits gehört auch Monday Morning von der Kanadierin Melanie Fiona. Hinter diesem Titel verbirgt sich allerdings noch eine komplett andere Geschichte: Im letzten September hatte sie ihr Debut mit der Single Give It To Me Right samt anschließender Albumveröffentlichung. Das verlief in Deutschland mehr oder weniger erfolgreich (Platz 31 für die Single, Platz 35 für's Album). Also ließ ihr Label in Deutschland UNIVERSAL die Dame mehr oder weniger fallen – ihre Homepage ist seit Dezember 2009 verwaist und Monday Morning ist als Single gleich gar nicht erschienen. In der Schweiz (und mit etwas Verspätung auch in Österreich) mutierte aber genau jenes Monday Morning zum absoluten Hit: Platz 1 in CH, Platz 3 in D – und so schwappt es mehr oder weniger auch nach Deutschland rüber, unterstützt von der Europa-Tour der Künstlerin. In der letzten Woche stand also Monday Mornung plötzlich auf Platz 55 der Charts - erwerbbar nur in digitaler Form – und in dieser Woche geht es noch ein wenig höher: Platz 48. Das Label … schläft derweil weiter. Nirgendwo eine Ankündigung, dass der Titel demnächst auf CD erscheint oder auch nur etwas anderes. Jetzt hege ich schon fast ein wenig den Verdacht, dass sich Melanie Fiona vielleicht selbständig gemacht hat und eventuell sogar das Label gewechselt hat. Wer weiß … Wie auch immer: hier scheint ein kommender Hit zu wachsen, ganz organisch, ganz von unten, übrigens mit tatsächlichem Ohrwurmcharakter, einfach mal reinhören und ich kann irgendwie nicht anders als an dieser Stelle noch einmal zu betonen: Hey ihr Labelmanager, wo ist denn euer so viel beschworener Aktionismus um junge Stars aufzubauen? Videos auf youtube sperren ist nicht euer Geschäft! Kümmert euch doch mal darum, dass Menschen tatsächlich auch die Songs (legal) erwerben können, die sie durch youtube etc. lieben gelernt haben …

Schluss der Polemik!

Noch ein Hit, der erstmal Anlauf brauchte und dann auch noch gehörig mediale Unterstützung. Die Rede ist von den Bodybangers, die bislang vor allem durch Remix-Arbeiten aufgetreten sind. Nebenher haben die beiden Jungs auch den einen oder anderen Pophit in ein neues Gewand geworfen, letztes Ding war das Cover von Olivia Newton-Johns Hit Physical, der es 1981 in Deutschland bis Platz 4 brachte und für die Lady der letzte Hit hierzulande war. Die Dancefloor-Variante der Bodybangers erschien bereits im letzten Oktober … hat es aber irgendwie nicht zum ganz großen Burner gebracht bis die Musikmanager der Topmodel-Show zugriffen und den Track auf ihre Compilation packten (und natürlich auch in der Show einsetzten). So schnupperte Bodytalk vor zwei Wochen schon mal kurz in die Charts und kehrt jetzt doch mit etwas mehr Power zurück: Platz 73 ist zwar immer noch nicht das, was da wirklich drin ist, aber eben – der wirkliche Sellout startet wohl grade erst.
