December 4th 15: Alligatoah & Last Christmas are Back

It is the sixth week at the top for Adele's Hello and the song now matches the result of Ellie Goulding's Love Me Like You Do in February/March this year. That song made chart history as it was the most longest number 1 by a British female artist since 1967. Adele now is on the way of eclipsing that feat in next weeks time.

At #2 Glas-Perlen-Spiel spends an eighth week with Geiles Leben. It is now the longest holding #2 song since 2009 when Cassandra Steen feat. Adel Tawil managed same run with Stadt.

There are two songs new inside the top 10. First one lands at #9 in the face of Show Me Love which is the new single of Robin Schulz. Accompanied singer here is British J.U.D.G.E.. It is the fourth top 10 hit for Robin Schulz in 2015 alone which makes him the most successful act of the year.

The second is the highest new entry at all. Comedia Jan Böhmermann launched a song called Ich hab Polizei which became a viral success leading to the artist's very first chart entry at all. POL1Z1STENS0HN sits pretty at #10.

At #13 German band Silbermond gots his first top 20 hits since three years. Leichtes Gepäck truly got steam by the release of the band's same titled new album which lands at #4 on the album's list this current week. So far both album and single perform under what predecessors achieved.

Another German band project lands at #18 in the face of Annen May Kantereit. The three have their first hit with Oft gefragt. So there are eight German productions inside the top 20.

Finally Drake made it to top 20 status with Hotline Bling. It is only his first solo single performing that high. More than four years ago he peaked at #12 as featured artist on Rihanna's single What's My Name.
His entry to the top 20 gives Canadian acts a new hiatus: Right now there are six songs involving Canadians inside. An all time high. The highest one still is Justin Bieber at #4 with Sorry.

A further song rising up the list: The new song of Major Lazer Light It Up gains 29 places landing at #31 in its fourth chart week.

And yes, it is pre Christmas time. So there is the most popular Christmas carol back in the list Last Christmas by Wham!. It starts its 20th chart run at position #32 which is quite high. Only once, in December 2004 the song started its annual chart run higher. Back than it re-entered at #24 and peaking at #18 four weeks later.

The second modern Christmas classic comes from Mariah Carey. All I Want For Christmas Is You also re-enters unusually high at #45. The song never started its annual chart run that strong. Given that it made its all time peak this year in January at #17 perspectives are quite good that it will rise this season even further.

And down at #89 also Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming) by Melanie Thornton is back. This song shows a typical performance so far.

The story of the week comes from German rapper alligatoah. His second album Musik ist keine Lösung missed the number 1 spot clearly due to Helene Fischer and Adele both strong selling their albums. Though the rapper can launch a bunch of single tracks inside the track charts. Leader of the pack is Denk an die Kinder that lands at #38 and now is the second highest performance of the rapper at all. Of course one might mention his appearance as a member of Trailerpark with whom he had some similar chart success too.
All in all there are seven album tracks charting the list. That feat is short behind Justin Bieber and Adele of the two past weeks.

alligatoah increases the number of German productions to 39 which is the highest number in years.

Oct 2nd 15: Slow Approaching of New Autumn Hits

Well, Sido Feat. Andreas Bourani spend a fourth week at the very top with Astronaut. And it is this what one might call a late summer hit–or is it already the sound of the autumn?
Astronaut is the first song collectin four #1 weeks since so far hit of the year 2015 Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) by Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson occupied the top spot for eight week in May/June. And it is the first #1 hit in German that does so since past year's Traum coming from CRO.

The one and only new arrival inside the top 10 comes–once again–from a German project. It is Glasperlenspiel with its latest offering Geiles Leben that climbs 13–5 in its sixth chart week giving the duo its highest peak so far.

A 15 places jump is the biggest gain of the week taken by French Louane who lands inside the top 20 with her France #1 hit Avenir. It is the highest hit in French since stromae's Papaoutai which stopped at #6 in October 2013.
Also on the way of becoming a hit Sigala is. Easy Love rises 10 places stopping at #17. In his homecountry the DJ already is a #1 star.

The new James Bond song Writing's On The Wall is the highest new entry this current week at #22. Sam Smith gains chart success although the official release is only scheduled for October 23rd. The demand also propels his last appearance back to the list. As featured artist he is mentioned for Omen by Disclosure which returns at a new peak at #74 after it shortly dipped into the hot100 in early August.

For announcing their upcoming album We Are The Generation British Rudimental had dropped single Lay It All On Me (Featuring Ed Sheerany). The song enters at #80 so far. Guess there are still things to come.

The week 35-12

It is the third week on the Top for Asaf Avidan and his Reckoning Song / One Day in the remix by DJ Wankelmut.

Move In The Right Direction by gossip finally is out on CD. The track jumps up the list to number 17.

Highest new German song comes in at 43. It is Freundschaft (Friendship) by Glasperlenspiel. It is already the third single lifted from the band’s debut. The story is about homecoming to close friends and the warm feeling within that situation. The song enters the charts on download sales only. Next issue also physical sales count.

Slowly rising is Austrian Klangkarussell (Sound Carousel) with Sonnentanz (Sun Dance). It reaches number 46 in its second week. The full CD release of this jazzy house tune is scheduled for September 21st.

After the release of a lyrics video New Day by 50 Cent Dr. Dre Alicia Keys returns to the list with a new peak. Number 60 still is kind of underestimated for the all stars coop.

This week German rapper CRO officially becomes the most successfull German act as he now has collected as much chart weeks in 2012 as Deichkind. Obviously the most popular genre produced in Germany is HipHop.

13-12: Switzerland vs. Eurodance

Nine weeks at the Top of Germany’s official singles charts. That’s what Brazilian Michel Teló is collecting so far with his anthem Nooossaa! Ai Se Eu Te Pego!. Nine weeks at the top–such a feat was last seen in October and November 2010 when Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole occupied the top slot for 10 consecutive weeks with his version on Over The Rainbow. An impressive hit at that time, still loved and often played, still ranging in the survey from time to time–last seen the week before at number 83. Anyway the singer is a one hit wonder in statistical terms. No other song recorded by him reached the singles list. Prospects are similar for Michel Teló. Having a huge hit often means to an artist that she/he is connected with that one song forever and never can offer something else that finds new friends. Good news are: the singer approaches the all time record for an act coming from South America. Shakira only is two more weeks ahead with her Nr.1 hit Whenever Wherever.

At number 3 a progress within the last 9 months comes to a new hiatus. Mike Candys Ft. Evelyn & Patrick Miller are the highest entering act at all and the next Swiss production landing in the German Top 10. 2012 ‘If The World Would End’ is the first one since DJ Antoine brought Welcome To St. Tropez to number 3 in August last year. Since than we had a couple of dance productions made in Switzerland invading the German list. Right now we have three Swiss acts inside the German Top 20–me personally don’t know when we had a situation like that the last time.

Further down the survey the DJ who started that little Swiss invasion a year ago comes in with a new track. This time DJ Antoine had chosen a track offered by Austrian fellow Rene Rodrigezz. Shake 3x also features the vocals of Austrian MC Yankoo who sounds like an European Pitbull. In Austria the track already was a hit in last September. In Germany it is the eighth track featuring a Swiss artist that ranks simultanously in the survey.

TV show of the week 16th to 22nd of March was Schlag den Raab (Beat the Raab) on Saturday 17th. Stefan Raab of course is a big player in TV and music business. He discovered and supported Swiss Stefanie Heinzmann in 2008–still she belongs to the inner circle of the Raab clan. At the show two weeks ago she performed her recent single Diggin’ In The Dirt which makes the sales increasing. The track lands at number 12. Benefitting much more of the appearance on TV Swedish CALIGOLA sees its single Forgive Forget jumping 16 places to number 16 after its performance in the show.

Seeing Swedish House Mafia entering the German list also, music coming from Sweden also making an increasing impact to the German market. Right now one can count four tracks of Swedish acts hanging around–five if one count the Steve Angello production of Taio Cruz’ Troublemaker. That track exactly shows the difference between the Swiss and the Swedish presence. Swedish acts are much more glabally involved. So the new track of the Swedish House Mafia is the soundtrack of the recent Absolut Vodka campaign called Greyhound. The video is an artificial trip into the future. The single lands at number 53.

Let’s have a look at German productions. Still leading the pack is Deichkind with Leider geil ranking at number 9 and Bück dich hoch slightly rising to number 11.

Best new offering coming from Germany is presented by surprising newcomer 2012 Glasperlenspiel (Glass Bead Game). The band continues with a second single Ich bin ich (I Am Me). It is a bubbly pop song reflecting about what is seen of a person by others and what is hide. So the song might tell a lot about modern relationships and love affairs. It starts chart life at 32.

A few places behind rock veteran Udo Lindenberg stops with his third unplugged single. It is 1989 song Reeperbahn in a reworked version as duet with Hamburg Jan Delay. They both performed as a duo twice before.

Further down the list UNHEILIG enters the survey with the title track of new album Lichter der Stadt (Lights Of The City). The album starts its chart life this week right at number one–the title track sneaks in the singles’ list at number 67. The song so far is available only as an album cut. The full CD single is released on 30th of March. Listening to the song one has to admit that UNHEILIG take new pathes. The sound is much more pop oriented. Never before I’ve heard the band that bright and joyfull.

European Dance Stuff seems a topic as four of all new enries fit to that genre.

Before David Guetta became the famous French export DJ it was Bob Sinclar who represented commercially successful club music coming from France. Seven years after his number 1 hit Love Generation the DJ and producer still releases material that can attract at least a bunch of clubbers. It is now a collaboration with Pitbull singer DragonFly and well known Fatman Scoop thatenters the list at number 45. Rock The Boat is kind of an oldschool sound. It completely abstains from rave oriented hook lines and trusts on the refrain and Pitbulls rap part. Of course a main attraction is the beat borrowed from Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. Just try out the MashUp by Mike Candys for knowing what I’m talking about.

Pitbull this week also enters the list as a featured artist alongside british singer REDD. He now had already seven tracks in the charts this year which matches the result of Flo Rida so far. Having six tracks in the survey in this recent week Pitbull is the first act in 2012 doing so. Last year David Guetta was the one hanging around in that quantity for 14 weeks, Lena and Amy Winehouse at least managed it for a single week. In long time terms Pitbull is hard on the heels of David Guetta according to how many chart hits he could’ve launched. Having 14 different entries he falls only four tracks short in this decade so far.

German dance cover project Groove Coverage actually works on the 90ies revival. Think About The Way was a hit for rapper Ice MC in 1994. It was kind of a comeback after his first success and a three years pause. All in all it was his second biggest seller. Groove Coverage wants to announce the new album Riot On The Dancefloor with this offering. But number 53 is not the big impact. Although the cover is probably one of their most felicitous it is the second lowest chart placing for a track in the whole chart life of the project.

The new version and the original from 1994

DSDS impacts
Some sites report that viewing figures of recent season are disastrous. According to the impact the show makes on the charts one can attest a fading influence. This week big favourite and everybody’s darling Luca Hänni is the one again who attracted most. His performed song Use Somebody re-enters the list at number 66. It is already the 39th week for the Kings of Leon track. Propelled by the demand in Use Somebody also Sex On Fire can gain some more attention and climb to number 94 again in its 76th chart week.

Second favourite of the show on 17th of March was Daniele Negroni. He performed Oh Jonny by Jan Delay which appears afterwards at number 87 in the singles list.

The very last new entry in the list lands at number 92. It is hiphop made in Austria. Dame raps on what’s about gaming on Pave Low. Although it uses all the clichees of German ghetto hiphop it sounds different to most of rap productions coming from German speaking territory. Probably it makes a difference if one tells stories about the real virtual life than dreaming ‘bout being a hard and tough street kid.

Bundesvision Song Contest

We do have 13 new entries inside the recent media control list. That’s a in fact the second biggest turnover this year. Plus 5 re-entries which means 18 tracks not charted the week before.Do the charts speed up after a year long period of calmness? Well – six of the new entries are caused by just aired Bundesvision Song Contest ... will talk baout that later. First of all: a look at the very top.

Marlon Roudette stands the 7th week at the top and now matches the 7 weeks run of Alexandra Stan in July and August . New Age and Mr. Saxobeat both sharing the title longest running number 1 in 2011.

Sean Paul can rise up to Number 3 with Got 2 Luv U and equals the position of his so far biggest hit Get Busy back in 2003.

The highest new entry comes due to above mentioned Bundesvision Song ContestStefan Raab’s yearly celebrated TV event hardly copied from the Eurovision contest. This year’s winner Tim Bendzko can also gain the biggest commercial success. Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären (If Words Would Be My Language) is the title track of his album and a very romantic ballad. It is a track about the difficulties of naming feelings. In my opinion that is exactly the point from which this song suffers. Instead of finding surprising lyrics like predecessor Nur noch kurz die Welt retten the song uses well known elements of soul. Even a gospel choir sings softly in the background. – Well, a lot of people like the song. It won the contest – with the lowest result of points ever reached -– and it enters the sales charts at number 5.

Number 4 within the contest – second best sold track is Echt (Real) by duo Glasperlenspiel (Glass Bead Game). They were one of only a few real unknown acts and it’s given, that their sound is what people convinced. The single already entered the sales charts at a surprising number 13 three weeks ago. Than the track felt out of the top 20 and now jumps again 18 – 9.

Also new in the sales charts is number 7 of the contest Frida Gold with Unsere Liebe ist aus Gold (Our Love Is Made Out Of Gold). It is the third single of the band that can enter the German charts.

The second at the show Flo Mega can launch his song Zurück (Back) only at number 44 inside the chart due to it’s release as digital single only.

Kraftklub from Saxonia enter the list at 45 with Ich will nicht nach Berlin (I Don’t Wanna Go To Berlin). The contest saw them at number 5.

Jupiter Jones had a huge success with Still (Calm/Silent) – Immerfürimmer (Everforever) landed at number 6 at the contest -– the digital single’s sale give them a new entry at 59. Not at all a succeeder of their big hit.

Jennifer Rostock enter with Ich kann nicht mehr (I Can’t Anymore) at 60 – the band was number 8 at the contest.

Not only due to Bundesvision Song Contest the German chart is filled with German songs this week. We do have four German productions inside the Top 10 – three of them in German including two Bundesvision contestants.

Inside the Top 20 there are two further songs including new SEEED single Molotov / Wonderful Life that lands straight at number 12. It is the first release of the band in more than five years. Their last hit Ding (Thing) climbed to Number 5 in 2006. In between three members of the group started solo carreers. The most successfull was Peter Fox releasing three Top 10 hits and winning once the Bundesvision Song Contest.Boundzound and Dellé had some medium hits.

Now the big band is back. A new album is announced but not scheduled. The tracks Molotov and Wonderful Life were available as free downloads on the band’s homepage back in summer – although the freshly released EP now enters at number 12. I guess this can count as an evidence that free music doesn’t kill artists. Wonderful Life is a cover version of the 1987 hit from British Colin Vearncombe aka Black which raised to Number 2 in Germany.

All in all we do have 25 (!) German productions inside the charts 23of them are in German (plus two Austrian hits that are in German too). Media control reports that this is the highest rate since April this year. I guess nobody could say anymore that there is no interest in German languaged songs – it is to question whether this flashlight shows a more sustainable trend. Or is it really just the Bundesvision effect? Except the presented artists on TV only two can made it new to the charts:

New in this list is 23 – the first collaboration project of former rivals Bushido and Sido. The track So mach ich es is the first single from an upcoming album and is available as download only so far. A physical release will follow on 21st of October. The track tells the old story: Sido and Bushido are the latest combatants, the No.1 rappers and they need to tell this to the world. The video is very well equipped – it is more a gangster movie than a music clip. Probably MTV & Co will not air the video cause there are several scenes fitting the terminus explicit.

To watch the video you have to be logged in – sorry

The soundtrack of the video

Whether the track can rise much higher after it’s release on CD can be watched with tension. Both artists did not reach the Top 10 this year. It’s a shame for Germany’s most successful rappers .

A late Oktoberfest hit is Wenn die Wunderkerzen brennen (When The Sparklers Are Lighted On) offered by Schlager dinosaur Jürgen Drews. He started his career early in the 70s, than had a long long silent period until he came back in late 2009. Now he reigns as one of the most popular singer of the so called Mallorca scenery. Wenn die Wunderkerzen brennen immediately after its release ranks as the best selling track in this genre. Inside the German sales charts 2011 Jürgen Drews is the German artist with the longest time span of hits.

Finally the look which songs have a short comeback due to a performance at recent talent shows. Most loved track this week is Goodbye My Lover originally performed by James Blunt. 13 years old Lukas Mattioli sang the song at Das Supertalent on 1st October – the track re-enters at number 49.

Same show featured Okan Yasin an official Pitbull imitator. His performance propells the very first of the Cuban rap star I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) back in the list at number 76.

Three Strong German Starts: Rosenstolz, Lindenberg, Glasperlenspiel

German pop duo Rosenstolz (Rose’s Pride) is back. New single Wir sind am Leben (We Are Alive) advertises their 11th album scheduled for 23rd September. The last three albums went number 1 – the first single of the last one Gib mir Sonne (Give Me Sun) was the first nr.1 single for the band. Now the new lift starts almost similarly spectacular. Though the competition is hard right now. Marlon Roudette spends a 4th week at number 1 with New Age followed by MAROON 5 Featuring Christina Aguilera and Moves Like Jagger. So Rosenstolz lands at number 3. It is a little less than the first singles of both predecessors. Well – it means nothing so far.

Wir sind am Leben is the 25th charting single of the band and the 11th cracking the Top 10. Though it is only the third single reaching number 3 or higher. After 20 years in business Rosenstolz still is on the way of becoming a really big German band.

Wir sind am Leben is a lyrical pop song talking about the courage of being curious for the joy of life. One of the main questions is: you have to live your life now! It can be read as an autobiographical story . Singer Peter Plate suffered from a burnout breakdown in 2009 and had to pause for more than a year. For the 20th anniversary of the band he is back in great shape.

Second German new entry comes from an artist who in exactly one week celebrates an exactly 30year long chart career. It is Udo Lindenberg who started making music 1969. His first solo album dates back to 1971. Back in the 70s he was a star as well selling albums in large quantitites. He released four top 10 albums. His first single hit came late. In 1981 it was Wozu sind Kriege da (What for there are wars?) making him an artist releasing also hits.

In January this his musical Hinter dem Horizont (Behind The Horizon) was premiered. In June an MTV unplugged concert were recorded that is now scheduled to be released as a CD. Ein Herz kann man nicht reparieren (You Can’t Fix A Heart) is the leading track. Partner of Udo Lindenberg is well known Inga Humpe of 2raumwohnung. She appeared as a solo artist last 23 years ago. Both can gain with number 12 a huge success. Udo Lindenberg only twice rose higher, Inga Humpe never saw the Top 20 as a solo artist neither with 2raumwohnung. But as part ofDÖF she was noted at number 1 with Codo.

And a third German new entry inside the top 20 lands at number 13. Glasperlenspiel is a young band coming from the southwest of Germany. They are going to participate at Stefan Raab’s Bundesvision Song Contest on 29th September. Entering with Echt (Pure) at number 13 means they are favourites in the contest. Although the competition this year is very strong.
