June 17th 16: King Soccer Is Back

From one week to the other everything has changed. We do have a new #1 flying there from #19 thanks to an event started just a week ago. This One's For You serves as the official song for the UEFA Euro 2016 and it was promoted on the opening ceremony as well as on every single match broadcasted almost worldwide. So it was a certain thing having this song as a hit. Although Germany is only the second country where it tops the charts–that might change in some days time.

So far This One's For You sets some visible marks. The leap from #19 qualifies the song as one of the five biggest jumps to #1 of all time. By replaceing a French production it repeats the feat done by The Avener in October 2014.

David Guetta tops the charts with This One's For You for the fourth time–alone in this current decade he already had three #1 hits so he joins the likes of CRO, Rihanna, Adele and Pharrell Williams.
Singer Zara Larsson cashes in her first #1 appearance. She is the first Swedish act topping the German list since AVICII did so with Hey Brother in November 2013. Of course the DJ had another appaerance at the top a year later as a producer. But Lovers On The Sun was credited only to David Guetta Feat. Sam Martin.
As we talk bout Swedish acts it is worth mentioning the amount of productions involving Swedish people–it is indeed ten. Impressive! And still far away from the 35 productions involving US Americans.

Also #2 is a gainer due to the UEFA EM2016. 80 Millionen already had peaked at #21 so far–chosen by fans the song was kind of a secret anthem for soccer parties and singer Max Giesinger launched a slightly changed version which lyrics fit better to the sportive event. This week the song even jumps 23 ranks in its 12th chart week and gives the 4th of 2012's The Voice of Germany casting his first top hit at all.

The official song of EM broadcasting chosen by ZDF is Wir sind groß recorded by Mark Forster. The song also had a successful chart life before peaking at #9 so far. This week it rises even further and stops at #5. It is Mark Forster's fourth top 5 appearance within less than three years.

The arrival of these two songs inside the top 10 increases the number of German productions up to three which is as much as there were the whole January and the highest amount in 2016 so far. In contradiction the presence of German productions in the complete top 100 is as low as at least one year ago. Only 18 productions involving Germans are count currently. In January 2015 that amount was slightly overdone by a production which was offered by an uncredited German. It was Waves originally recorded by Mr Probz but successfully remixed by Robin Schulz.

To finish the list of soccer related gainers: the Further down also jeder für jeden by Felix Jaehn & Herbert Grönemeyer jumps 44 places to #27.


There are other gainers in the list as well although most of them have a relation to France–the host of the UEFA EM. Jumping 18 places Don't Be So Shy by Imany lands at #13. As the song is mostly sold as remix by Russian DJ duo Filatov & Karas it is also one of the rare Russian hits in Germany. The last real hit (meaning charting more than one single week) from Russia was Welcome To St. Tropez by Timati in 2011.

At #41 Willy William lands. The French singer hit already #1 in Israel with Ego, in Europe he gained Top5 in Belgium and the Netherlands. And at #70 the new single by Martin Solveig Do It Right stands in its third chart week.


Also Adele's new single rises. Send My Love (To Your New Lover) stops at #45 after jumoing 23 places.

After four years of silence culcha candela is back. The Berlin based group offers Wann dann as its come back single which enters the list indeed as highest new entry–at a very low #71. It is the second lowest "Best new entry" of 2016 so far. Only the issue February 19th had a "highest new" lower than this with Es rappelt im Karton by Pixie Paris starting chart life at #83.

Febr 19th 16:

A second week at the top for Norwegian DJ Alan Walker with Faded. Also the #2 stands still with Jonas Blue's version of Fast Car.

The highest new arrival into the top 10 comes from US American twentyøne piløts. Their Stressed Outs jumps 23–6 in its fifth chart week.
Also new inside the top 10 is Elle King. After eight weeks inside the list bouncing around she finally can made it 14–10 with her Ex's & Oh's.
By the arrival of these two US Amercian productions the presence of Europeans inside the Top 10 drops to a low level of five songs–as low as at beginning of September 2013. Of course that doesn't mean European song production has a baisse at all. Inside the top 20 still 12 songs come from Europe–it is some songs short of the 18 productions high of summer 2015 but still a proper result.


Finally the Rihanna-Drake collabarotion Work gets some steam and rises 22–12. It is the highest position the Canadian rapper ever achieved eclipsing the success of his other collaboration with Rihanna What's My Name in February 2011.

On the way up also Mike Posner is. The SeeB remix of his I Took A Pill In Ibiza goes 59–42.
26 places up and a firste appearance inside the upper half–that's the result for Jamie Lawson. The Zwette remix of his Wasn't Expecting That stops at 48. And a jump of 35 places alligatoah takes with Du bist schön. It is the 12 chart week for the song and also the first appearance in the upper half right at #50 which comes due to the release of a song video. alligatoah already has two top50 hist under his belt.

The highest new entry is an old song re-entering after its use for a movie score. It is X Gon' Give It To Ya by rapper DMX which infects people newly in Deadpool the next X-Men side sequel. The song enters at a very low #77. In 2003 the song peaked at #23. For DMX it is a return after a nine years long absence from the charts.
The highest really new song comes in at #83. It is Es rappelt im Karton by Belgian Swiss Pixie Paris. Certainly the song will get much higher the next days as it is used (again) in a wonderful commercial parody for ice cream. So far it is the lowest best new entry since January 2012 and #5 on the all time negative list.

July 31st 15: Continuity at Top Position

Lost Frequencies Feat. Janieck Devy hold firm at no.1 with their Reality. It is the second week as best selling single. In next week's time we probably will talk which Belgian track had a longer stay at no.1 before.

This week I can tell you about that: Reality is the sixth track in a row which hold at least a fortnight on top. Sounds less spectacular as it is. Last time we had a 12 weeks period with continuing no.1s was back in 2011. From January till end of June there were seven songs invading the top for 25 weeks and every single one had at least a two weeks stay. Than on July 1st On The Floor by JLO Feat. Pitbull returned to the top and broke the continuity which was an exception as the following no.1 in the face of Alexandra Stan's Mr. saxobeat had a seven weeks turn at the top as well.

Actually it might be possible that we have a new no.1 next week as Sugar the new single of Robin Schulz is sneaking up a place to no.2. On download lists this track already led the race the past week. Well–featuring Canadian Francesco Yates the track already now sets a mark. It is the highest ranking single track involving a Canadian singer since August 2009. Back than that were the heydays of Nelly Furtado. Her last top 3 hit so far was Manos Al Aire starting chart life directly at no.2.


Biggest gainer into the top 10 is So wie du bist by MoTrip featuring Lary. After the success it acclaimed due to its use in a commercial with Bastian Schweinsteiger the company added a video with guest appearance of Lena Meyer-Landrut which pushes the track further up the list stopping at #5.
This arrival pushes the total of German productions inside the top10 to six–which is an impressive figure at all.

Probably much more impressive is the presence of German productions inside the top 20 too. As there are Joris with Herz über Kopf going 17–14 and Namika with Lieblingsmensch landing at 17 which brings the total to 10 productions–six of them in German.


As this is the time of slowly growing hits it is worth having a look further down the list to some medium hits:
This Summer's Gonna Hurt Like a Motherf__ker by Maroon 5 goes 64–45 in its seventh chart week
Shine by Years & Years goes 57–47 in its fifth chart week
Good To Be Loved by M22 74–49 in its fifth week
Watch Me by Silentó 77–60 in its sixth week
Matching the pattern of slowly rising hits the highest new entry comes in only at #75. It is the new offering of Swiss German duo BOY that released we were here as a teaser single to same titled album. Starting short before the end quarter of the list is the worst performance of the best new single of the week in 2015. Still it does better then the weakest "Hot new entries" in 2014 and 2012–well, these both started chart life in weeks when at least one re-entry returned to the survey much higher. So we were here actually is the fifth lowest start as best song not charted the week before of all times. What a special gimmick!

Seeing the decelerating of charts right now it is obvious that we have some very very long time runner inside the current list as they are still:
Atemlos durch die Nacht by Helene Fischer spending a 90th consecutive week on the list which makes it the third longest running hit without a break
All Of Me by John Legend in its 76th consecutive week valid as #8 on the list of consecutive chart appearances
and Auf uns by Andreas Bourani which spends a 66th week on the list.
The two first just rise up the survey again…

A long living and classic tune reappears at #91. Insomnia by Faithless first appeared in 1995 on CD. It became a club hit and started its way through the charts peaking at #2 in Germany in 1996. As a remix version done by Armand van Helden the recording had a second impressive chart run in 2005/06 spending 24 weeks inside the list peaking at #37. Also two cover versions released by Nightwatchers (2002) and Mike Candys & Jack Holiday had some minor chart success. Now it is Swedish AVICII who officially was pleased to remix the club classic. The result now is available as Insomnia 2.0 AVICII remix which immediately enters the list and probably will become the third chart life of the hit at all.
Meanwhile the recording is on the way of getting a track with impressive longevity as it now spans a period of 19 years as a chart hit.

Another classic returns at #92. Ginuwine's Pony seems to have a renaissance as it appeared the last weeks on Magic Mike XXL and on Glee. Additionally Rustie released a remix a few days ago. That all is enough to bring the track back to charts after 18 years. In 1997 the song peaked at #22.
