December 1st 17: BAUSA Is Most Successful German Rap Act

These are the last five weeks of 2017. Most of the best selling and record breaking feats are done. Anyway these weeks can serve with some surprises. Let's start with #1:
It is BAUSA's eigth week at the top with Was du Liebe nennst which means that he is now the German hiphop act with most weeks at #1 at all. Sido so far only has seven weeks at #1 under his belt.
Now the question is: Will Bausa manage to be #1 at Christmas time too?

Equipped with an official (commercial) video clip now Justin Bieber + Bloodpop make a jump back inside the top 10. Friends lands at #4 and reaches a new peak after it already spent 14 weeks on the survey. It is only the second top10 week for the song.

Highest new entry sits at #7 in the face of German Youtube star Katja Krasavice. Her chart debut is Doggy.

With Nico Santos going 27–14 it is the highest appearance for a Spanish artist within a year. Although the singer is also German the success of Rooftop probably is more a home made thing.


As this is the first list of December there are of course some classic Christmas songs back on the list. First of all All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey from 1994 re-appears at #37. It is the 13th chart run for that song–only once it started its seasonal career higher. That was back in 1994 when it jumped to #34 after a week dropping completely out off the top100.
Also Last Christmas by Wham! is back. It started its 22nd chart run at #52. So far the song collected 125 chart weeks–it is the second most all times. Plus right now the British duo is the longest running chart act still selling songs with almost 35 years. Runners up are Die Toten Hosen with a little more than 29 years. Of course the latter one still recording songs.

Certainly a lot more Christmas tunes will invade the list and change the face of the charts rapidly. So let's have a look at the classics right now. Longest running hit inside the top 100 still is Ohne mein Team by Bonez MC Raf Camora Feat. Maxwell. In its 65th chart week the track sits pretty at #72. It now ranks inside the top 20 of longest consecutively running hits of all time.
Second longest running recent hit is Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran that gains five places again at #27 in its 47th week.
And also hit of the year Despacito is one of the long runners with 44 weeks at #41.

After ten years of chart abstinence Craig David is back at #92. His new single I Know You Features band Bastille.

Nov 3rd 17: Fourth Week For BAUSA

The midweek charts had detect a strong challenger for the #1 slot as Perfect by Ed Sheeran reached #2. Later this week the song got a stronger weakness sitting now pretty at #5 again and giving way to Was du Liebe nennst by BAUSA spending a fourth week at the top spot. At runners up position now Camila Cabello ranks with her ode to Havana which is far and away the best appearance she ever claimed.

There is no new entry to the top 10 but two songs re-entering. The higher one at #9 is New Rules by Dua Lipa which gains a new peak in its 14th chart week. So far the song has occupied #10 for three weeks than dropping out for a full month and now rising 12–9 again. New Rules now matches the result of predecessor and so far biggest hit Scared To Be Lonely alongside Martin Garrix.
Second top10 re-entry is Mi Gente by J balvin & Willy William going 11–10 after a single week outside. It is the 13th top10 week which makes the song one of the nine longest running top10 hits in 2017.

Highest new entry comes from Selena Gomez X Marshmello. Wolveslands at #14 in its first chart week. It is Selena Gomez' fourth hit in 2017. Marshmello right now has another hit Silence sitting pretty at #7.

The Imagine Dragons launch a second top20 hit this year with Whatever It Takes going 29-15. Meanwhile Thunder fades slowly to #20.
Also Norwegian DJ Kygo gets a second top20 hit in 2017 with Stargazing taking five places up to #18. It is already chart week no. six for that song.
At #19 What Lovers Do by Maroon 5 Feat. SZA goes. It is the first top20 appearance for the band since three years.

Watching the top 20 one can witness a strong presence of artists from the US. Between #11 and #20 there are nine songs involving US artists–eight songs are from US acts alone. It is this a very strong return as three years ago there were weeks with only two or even one top20 song involving stars from the US.

Worth mentioning:
Sunrise Ave's Help You Hate Me slowly catches fire as it goes 61–43 in its sixth chart week. Times when the band invaded top10 status easily seem long ago.
Kogong is the newest offering by Mark Forster who re-released his album TAPE enriched with that song. In its third chart week Kogong goes 78–53.
A 87–68 jump is taken by Charlie Puth with his song How Long.

Hulapalu by Andreas Gabalier spends a 85th week inside the top100. It now is the 15th highest result of chart weeks of all times. Well–the best performing single still is Sky And Sand by Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner that collected 129 non consecutive chart weeks.

Oct 27th 17: BAUSA still leads –

BAUSA leads the list still with his (not) love song Was du Liebe nennst. It is week no.3 for that song.

The highest new entry is the third top 10 hit for German schlager queen Helene Fischer. As her song Achterbahn is available in new mixes the song crashes into #10 in its second chart week. Over the week sales figures decrease dramatically–probably also this hit will fade away soon.


As it is a calm week we can have a watch at the lower end where long running hits still invade the list. Due to Oktoberfest and Wiesn parties Hulapalu by Andreas Gabalier again gets increasing attention and re-enters the survey at #95 in its 84th chart week. The song started chart life on the first week of 2016, in 2017 it charted 31 times. The longest consecutive running entry sits at #71 in its 60th chart week. It is Ohne mein Team by Bonez MC RAF Camora & Maxwell. Its highest position was #7.

July 22nd 16: Galantis and Shindy Are Lucky

It is the third week for IMANY and her Don't Be So Shy at #1 in Germany. Seems that this is the summer hit 2016. A French summer. Although this week "only" #1 and #2 come from France as alle farben feat. YOUNOTUS rise one place to #3 with Please Tell Rosie. Latter one reaches its peak in the 14th chart week.

As Jennifer Lopez reaches #5 with Ain't Your Mama she is inside the top 5 the first time since her #1 On The Floor in July 2011.

Longest running inside the top 10 still Cheap Thrills by SIA Feat. Sean Paul is. It is already the 18th top 10 week which matches the best result so far installed by Alan Walker and his Faded.
The most top10 weeks collected by an artist in 2016 Justin Bieber still has on his account. Although this week his fellow landman DRAKE stands on his side as he also has a result of 20 weeks so far with One Dance sitting pretty at #7.

The lucky gainer of the week sits at #10. After spending directly two weeks under the glass ceiling Galantis celebrates its first top10 hit at all with No Money. The song is the third chart entry of the act–both predecessors failed to reach the upper half of the list. No Money also took a 13 weeks rise to get to its so far peak.

One more fact: It is this the first week without having a song in German under the top 10 since March 2015.


A real winner arrives at #13 as Shawn Mendes sees his recent single Treat You Better climb 11 places in its seventh chart week.
One place down there is finally a highest new entry worth its title. Shindy presents Roli as a pre-release to his album Dreams scheduled for November. By landing at #14 it is Shindy's highest chart entry at all–one have to realize it is his 18th charting track at all. His chart career only began four years ago. So he still has some steam left.
The Strumbellas in opposite had their first single Spirits rising 18–23 in its tenth chart week.
Also Enrique Iglesias is on the rise. Duele el corazon stops at #20. It is the highest entry coming from Spain since ... ehm past years El Perd#on recorded by Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias :-)


Disturbed's take on The Sound Of Silence bounces around the list. This week it reaches a new peak at #34 after jumping 22 places.

Further Gainers
jonas blue's second single Perfect Strangers enters the upper half of the list by rising 14 places to #46 in its seventh chart week.
Sucker For Pain from the Suicide Squad soundtrack makes a 11 places move to #47 and gives leading artist lil Wayne his first top50 appearance since four years. Also collaborating Imagine Dragons had a two years break while Ty Dolla $ign already has his third top 50 hit this year alone.
Alvaro Soler leaps 17 places to #50 with Sofia and MØ takes 12 places to land at #51 with The Final Song.

With only 58 productions involving Europeans the continent again dips to a new low peak. The country with biggest presence still are the USA with 35 productions–it is not as much as we had some years ago–followed by Germany with 20 (although a very low result), Great Britain with 14 and Canada with 11 tracks.

July 1st 16: French Artists Invading the Top 3

This Girl by KUnGS vs. Cookin' On 3 Bruners spends a third week at the top of the German charts. Followed by another French act: IMANY. Who also got support by a second act. Don't Be So Shy became popular especially as the remix version by Russian DJ duo Filatov & Karas. By landing at #2 these two are the most successful Russian act since 2003. Back than t.A.T.u. had their #1 hit All THe Things She Said.

As David Guetta sits pretty at #3 with his UEFA EM hit This One's For You the whole top3 comes from French artists–a historical situation never seen before in German chart history.


It is again a more calm week on the charts. Biggest gainers are:
Ride by twentyøne piløts jumping 28 places to #34 in its third chart week
Kill Em With Kindness by Selena Gomez taking also 28 places to #61 in its second week
Wherever I Go by OneRepublic jumping 21 places to #52
Perfect Stranger by jonas Blue feat. JP. Cooper going 97–77

Highest new entry is Lieblingslied by German youtube stars Die Lochis. It is their seventh chart hit but the biggest demand seems to be history as their biggest hit peaking past summer at #29 in its first week.

After 68 consecutive weeks on charts Lean On by Major Lazer X DJ Snake Feat. Mø leaves the list. Longest running track now is Sugar by Robin Schulz feat. Francesco Yates spending at #91 an 50th week inside the list.

Nov. 6th 15: Records

This is the week that Atemlos durch die Nacht by Helene Fischer spent a 108th week inside the survey. It is now the single with third most chart weeks collected right behind Last Christmas by Wham! (114 weeks) and Sky And Sand by Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner (129 weeks). Peaking at #3 in February 2014 Atemlos durch die Nacht is the song reaching the highest position of the top 3.

Second time in German chart history there are only four tracks entering the list that hadn't the week before. First time that happened the week August 21st 2015. So we really witness a time of slow turning charts these weeks / months.

Sept 11th 15: No.1 after 22 years

It is hardly seen politics making no.1 hits. In 2015 Germany faces exactly that situation. After weeks of neonazis riots against refugee camps a music teacher started his action "Aktion Arschloch" which calls people to buy the song Schrei nach Liebe by Die Ärzte as an act of solidarity with refugees and against xenophobia in Germany. The band itself support the action by donating all royalties of the song for Pro Asyl. Apple, google and Universal Publishing did so too. Last week the song reentered the list at #12. This week it is clearly the most sold song of the week.

By entering #1 the song breaks a record. It is now the song with longest way to the top. First released end of September 1993 it took 22 years–its first chart run stopped at #9. As the fourth track of Die Ärzte Schrei nach Liebe also marks a more than 17 years long span of #1 hits for the band which actually is not a record though it is the third longest time span if you count the weekly aera of the charts and the fourth longest if you consicer all charts from 1953 on.

At #4 there is the highest new entry in the face of German rock band Böhse Onkelz. Wir bleiben is their first chart entry since 11 years and the fifth consecutive top 10 hit. As a result there are five songs in German inside the Top 10.
This tendency continues inside the top 20. With Glasperlenspiel's new single Geiles Leben rising 24–18 there are eight songs in German–three further tracks are recorded by German acts although there are in English.

The longest running hit also is a German one. Atemlos durch die Nacht by Helene Fischer spends a 100th chart week on the list. This result is the sixth longest chart run at all. With 96 consecutive weeks it matches the result of gossip's Heavy Cross which was so far the longest runner.
Exactly at this "anniversary" the song climbs again 20 places to #53 the highest rank since end of June.

At the very lower end of the list seven tracks by SIDO enter the list due to the release of the album VI which goes straight to #4 on the album's survey. Added with Astronaut still hanging on at #3 and his appearance on Au revoir clinging on at #95 there are nine tracks of the whole top 100 coming from one artist–second best result for 2015 only beaten by Bushido on February 27th.

This strong impact is the reason why we have a total of 31 songs in German and 38 productions coming from Germany–all this falling narrowly short of the result in February. Additionally we have a total of 79 productions involving Eurpeans in the list–the best performance of 2015 although it is still three under the best mark of 2014.


Of course it's not all about German songs: In its 13th chart week Ghost Town by Adam Lambert can achieve the top 20. The song goes 23–17.
All other stories are more the negative way as we have a total of only 24 tracks involving USAmericans–ouch, only narrowly misses the figure of July 2014 when there were only 23 tracks.

August 28th 15: Continuous Summer Laziness

It is still Robin Schulz who grabs the singles chart crown. Sugar feat. Francesco Yates holds firm for a third week at the top spot. Seems this one is the summer hit 2015 although it has some way to go for beating the early summer smash of Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) that had an eight weeks #1 run.

A week before the release of its new album Beauty Behind The Madness Canadian The Weeknd reaches a new career peak inside the singles list by getting his Can't Feel My Face stopping at #16. With an eight places leap the singer gets his second top 20 hit. The first one Earned It stopped at position 17 earlier this year.

Youtube selfmade singer Joel Brandestein serves with Grenzenlos the highest new entry landing at #20. It is the first proper CD single release of the singer who started his career with cover versions of popular songs published at his channel. Last December he first gained chart success with Diese Liebe. The new song falls only two places short from the result nine months back, which prooves the ability of the net community to launch new stars besides of comedian acts like Y-Titty, ApeCrime or Die Lochis.

It is that arrival which makes German productions having a new presence inside the Top 20. 11 out of 20 coming from Germany, 8 of them are in German.


On #55 Roland Kaiser & Maite Kelly re-enter with their Warum hast du nicht nein gesagt. Since late January this year the song appears again and again for some single weeks on the list. This time it is the fourth entry caused by a bigger presence of Roland Kaiser over the past weeks. Beginning of August he staged four times(!) in Dresden at the Kaisermania concerts yearly celebrated there. More than 50.000 visitors live and 500.000 on TV followed the shows, Ten days ago his appearance on the criminal movie Summ Summ Summ was aired again, and of course the summer discofox fever is on its height right now – so Warum hast du nicht nein gesagt lands at its highest peak so far giving Roland Kaiser his biggest chart entry since 1988.

As we are on the field of schlager: Helene Fischer right now eclipses the record of UNHEILIG's Geboren um zu leben which was so far the single with the longest consecutive chart run of this current decade. Now Atemlos durch die Nacht joins it with 94 consecutive weeks. The song only has three weeks to go for becoming the longest consecutive running hit of all times as Heavy Cross by gossip holds this title since four years.
