17th of Oct 2014:

Meghan Trainor celebrates a second week at the top with her anthem All About That Bass. It is only the second but the last time a female artist did so was back in spring 2013 when P!NK had a two weeks run at the top with Just Give Me A Reason. Of course she duetted for that song with Nate Ruess of FUN.–so half of the work probably the male singer did.
A real solo number one for at least two weeks by a female was last achieved by R(ihanna) and her Diamonds at the tall end of 2012.

The highest new entry comes from AVICII who offers a completely new track with The Days. Only once a track by him entered the German list straight at the Top 10. It was 2011 single LE7ELS which never rose further than the entry position at number 6.

It is again time for the Supertalent. The second casting show by Dieter Bohlen every year in autumn launches some short flash hits and more and more overturns the direct chart success of his classic DSDS format. The second show of the current Supertalent season boosts Austrian Andreas Gabalier back to the charts. His Amoi seg' ma uns wieder got first popularity in May this year when Xavier Naidoo staged with the song on Sing meinen Song. Back than the original charted at number 18 and spent 21 weeks inside the charts disappearing just a fortnight ago. Now a contestant chose the song on the Supertalent show and Amoi seg' ma uns wieder shoots to number 9 which is far and away the best chart place Andreas Gabalier ever achieved. Of course in his home country the singer already has a number 1 under his belt and the song reached number 3.

Tracks On The Rise
The gainer that can land highest in the list is Sun Goes Down–the new offering by Robin Schulz accompanied by Jasmine Thompson. It stops this week at number 14 right behind former No.1 hit Prayer in C. It is now the DJ's third Top20 hit in 2014.

With release of the album Strut also the latest single by Lenny Kravitz can get a sales boost. Chamber goes 31–17 giving the artist his first Top20 appearance since 2008.

Planned as the comeback of the year (or the decade?) the return of Tokio Hotel is a bit annoying. Its album Kings of Suburbia is the first one that misses number 1 in Germany. Also the single Love Who Loves You Back stalls at a very low number 38 after a respectable leap over 56 places. Probably the track will tumble down in next weeks time dramatically.

With the proper music video online (and on TV) Animals by Maroon 5 gets good support. The track goes 64–41 in its fourth chart week.

22nd of August 2014: A static Top 10

Number 1
Nr.1 is still Lovers On The Run by David Guetta feat. Sam Martin (plus additional production by AVICII)
It is the second week for the song, the third for main artist David Guetta and the 12th for not mentioned artist AVICII (all these weeks within little more than a year)

Top 10 action
Actually there is almost no action at all inside the Top 10. The top 7 holds still.
Wicked Wonderland by Martin Tungevaag rises a single place to number 8 which marks a new peak for that song and Summer by Calvin Harris returns 11–10 due to the second week tumble of Maroon 5's new single MAPS.

Two big gainers this week land inside the Top 20:
Rude by Canadian MAGIC! jumps 16 places to number 12 which gives us two acts from the North American country inside the Top 20 (the other one is KIESZA). A feat last seen in June 2012.

And Chandelier by SIA even jumps 19 places to number 20. It is the first time she reaches the Top 20 as an artist since her appearance on David Guetta's She Wolf which went to number 3 in September 2012.

Highest new entry comes from Ariana Grande Featuring ZEDD.
Break Free is Ariana's second chart hit in Germany after Problems (feat. Iggy Azalea) peaked at number 19 last week. German ZEDD already has three other chart hits under his belt. Number 27 with Break Free is the second best performing right behind Stay The Night which peaked at number 15 this spring.
All in all there are only seven new tracks inside the survey plus two re-entering songs. It is the third time in 2014 that we can witness such a low turnover of songs. Well, there were years when not long ago when it was almost usual that only seven or even six songs left the list for new or re-entering tracks.

Biggest Gainers
The biggest one is CRO and his announced next single Bad Chick which jumps full 25 places to number 41 in its third chart week.

Postcards by James Blunt reaches number 50 in its 4th chart week. The track jumps 15 places.

Norway – the upcoming EuroPop Country
By Anders Nilsen with Salsa Tequila charting there are three Norwegian productions simultaneously invading the German list. The most popular at this time is the above mentioned, very similarly sounding Wicked Wonderland. The third one is Am I Wrong current number 1 hit in Great Britain by Nico & Vinz.
Of course there were a lot of internationally successful pop acts coming from Norway including a-ha/Morten Harket, Madcon, Maria Mena and Eurovision winner Alexander Rybak. Even EuroDisco coming from Norway was highly successful with Barbie Girl by Aqua topping the lists worldwide in 1997. The presence of more than two Norwegian acts at once is a feat hardly found in chart history.
This picture fits well with the result European productions reach these weeks. The current issue counts 82 productions coming from Europe or with participation of European acts. Although European productions are very present within the last months and even years this result is quite unique. It shows on the other hand the low rate of pure US-American productions: Less than a quarter. Ten years ago the picture was completely different–so maybe the life (and cultural tastes) on both continents differ more and more at the moment.

15th of August 2014: Another Straight Number 1

David Guetta feat. Sam Martin:
Lovers on the Sun

Again Germany has a new number 1 that goes straight to the Top. The sixth time in 2014 a hit does so. - Last time as much songs entered the top directly in one year was back in 2009.
It is David Guetta's first top hit since two years when She Wolf (Falling To Pieces) and Play Hard went Top 10. And it is his second number 1 hit. Almost five years ago he first entered the top in accompanion with Akon and the song Sexy Bitch.
Yet it is the second number 1 in 2014 having a French act involved.

Since 2010 David Guetta achieved 12 top 10 hit – as much as Rihanna does in same time span – but it is "only" his 71st week inside the hot 10. Pitbull and Rihannaso far spent more weeks inside.

On the decks and drums at lovers on the sun appears Swedish superstar AVICII/Tim Bergling which gives him a third number 1. This year it is already his fifth top 10 hit. So he is so far the most successfull artist of 2014.

Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea reach a new peak at number 19 this week. It is the 15th chart week for the duo – so Problem is kind of a sleeper hit in Germany. And compared to all other countries in the world number 19 looks more or less a low position.

Much faster on the way up British Ella Henderson is. Her Ghost reaches number 20 in its third chart week. The proper CD release is scheduled for end of August. So this ain't the final peak for that song.

Gorgon City reaches the upper half of the German charts for the very first time. Here For You (feat. Laura Welsh) goes 56–48 in its sixth chart week.

Also Revolverheld's next single is on the way up. Last week Lass uns gehen entered the list at number 88. This week it stands at number 50.

Bad Chick by CRO entered the list first in late June when his album Melodie was released. Now the song is scheduled for a re-release on a EP for beginning of September. Only the announcement of that issue propells the track as an album cut back to the list. It re-enters at number 66 which is the peak position so far.

Slowly catching fire Don't Tell'em by Jeremih feat. YG goes 83–71. The song is already the fifth week inside the charts. Most infecting probably is the reduced beat by DJ Mustard which already made his production Show Me a medium hit spending 31 weeks in the list.

Best sold album of the week comes from the Beatsteaks. The big demand also helps their current single Gentleman of the Year back to the singles list. It re-enters at number 72 falling only short behind its first appearance eight weeks ago at number 66.

At number 79 a song approaches the record of most weeks inside the charts. Sonnentanz by Austrian Klangkarussell spends a 101st week in the list which is the fifth best result of all times. In this current decade it is the third best. Only Geboren um zu leben by UNHEILIG and–of course–Sky and Sand by Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner so far have more weeks under their belts.
With Angus & Julia Stone charting at number 94 another Australian act enters the list. It is the sixth act from that continent–well a month ago there were eight Australian acts inside the list. Best performing at this moment Iggy Azalea is thanks to her colaboration with Ariana Grande. Anyway Grizzly Bear can enter due to the release of the full Angus & Julia album which is in shelves since 1st of August.

7th of March 2014: The power of TV

Back at the Top Pharrell Williams is adding a seventh Nr.1 week to the account of his hit Happy after he performed it at Wetten dass...?. Last weeks No.1 Waves by MR PROBZ has to step beside and sits now at number 2.

Looking up the history Pharrell is the first male solo artist since Michel Teló in early 2012 who rests at least seven weeks at number 1 (of course I don’t count here AVICII who always colaborates with uncredited singers.)

Wetten dass...!? more and more looses its audience–in Germany a heated debate is going on about that fact. But the show still boosts music sales. So Adel Tawil’s Lieder goes 16–10 after it was performed live at the show. The track already spent 17 weeks inside the list–most of them inside the Top 10. Now it is back for a further week.

Highest new entry comes from an Norwegian act. Nico & Vinz had some first success in Scandinavia under the name Envy. Her single Am I Wrong is the first one released outside the northern countries and immediately lands at number 3 in Germany. It is the highest Norwegian production since five years when a-ha hauled up their Foot Of The Mountain to number 3 also.

New inside the Top 10
As expected Rather Be by Clean Bandit goes 12–6 and breaks the Top 10 after the full CD version is released. Also AVICII gets his Addicted To You inside the Top 10. The track lands at number 8 ten days ahead of the relaese of new remixes. It is the third Top 10 hit from hi album True.

Stopping short of the big 10 Liar Liar by Cris Cab improves being a hit. It goes 28–13 in its fifth chart week and features master of the moment Pharrell Williams as producer. So after three number 1 hits PW is on the way for the next step. In next weeks time also physical sales count into the list.

The fast rise of LORDE comes to a halt slowly. Team only rises one further place reaching exactly number 20. It's her second Top 20 hit. Predecessor Royals slides to number 35 this week.

Carnival hits
This issue covers sales from 21st of February to 27th. It is the week just before the crazy days of Shrove Monday and Tuesday. As every year this time generates its own hits–some of them returning for several years. The leap made by Cologne BRINGS is most significant for increasing interest in carnival hits this week. Kölsche Jung lands at number 41 which is a new peak for the song and the highest rank the band can achieve since four years.

Jürgen Drews also offers a new single. Und wir waren wie Vampire lands at number 48. It is his 27th chart hit as a solo performer. If you count his chart career as a member of Les Humphries Singers too he is an artist having chart success since the weekly charts were enabled. From still active artists only Peter Maffay's career spans a longer time started in April 1970.

Back on the list are: Cat Ballou with Es jitt kei Wood (#62), voXXclub with Rock mi (#100–63), Peter Wackel with the carnival edition of his song Scheiss drauf! (#67), Kasalla with Pirate (#77), HÖHNER with Das geht nie vorbei (new peak at #85).

An elder track becomes a new hit by its use for a viral campaign–that's the story written often enough but still has the power to surprise people. Latest chapter is the story around Supergeil by Der Tourist Feat. Friedrich Liechtenstein. Latter one is a semi known actor in Berlin who had started producing electronic music 10 years ago. By doing this he got to know some other producers and was featured on some tracks with his voice or just for acting in video clips. So he did last year for Der Tourist. The track incidently reached the marketing department of supermarket seller EDEKA. Two weeks ago a new video version of the track was released becoming immediately popular and now starting to sell even the official release of the track is scheduled for 8th of March yet. Starting its chart life at number 59 also means: this thing might become big.

21st of February 2014: MR PROBZ is coming - David Guetta is back

Still Happy occupies the number 1 slot. It is the 6th week for the song making it as successful as both nr.1 hits of Pharrell Williams together.

Gainer of the week and still one week ahead of a full CD release is Mr Probz. His Waves remixed by Robin Schulz goes 27–2 and the question is: will it strike number 1 next week? So far it is the best performing Dutch act since–erm– Ch!pz in 2005. With Martin Garrix still hanging on at number 17 we have the very rare situation of two Dutch acts simultaneously in the Top 20.

After 10 weeks inside the charts Katy Perry’s Dark Horse manages to break the Top 10. Still the video clip is not available in full and the CD single release two weeks ahead.

Also AVICII sees his upcoming single Addicted To You rising as an album cut which so far misses full promotion. Although the song stops at number 14 this week and is now the highest ranking track of the Swedish DJ.

The act with the strongest chart presence in this current decade is on the go to his next step. Shot You Down is the actual release offered by French DJ David Guetta. Released on 10th February digitally the track only had three sale days counting for that current list. It is enough to throw the track to number 24 which is the highest new entry for this week and the 600th appearance in the list since beginning of 2010. Vocals on the track come from Skylar Grey who had a well recognized start in 2011–but later was a little silent. Now she is back and probably can give her career just the missing kick for being a well received star.

Originally the song was recorded by Cher in 1965 giving her a number 17 entry at the charts that days. The much more famous version in 2014 comes from Nancy Sinatra who recorded her take in 1966. It became popular by the use in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill in 2004 for the first time. A remixed version by Audio Bullys went #3 in Great Britain a year later.

Thomas Gottschalk still can launch hits
For two weeks Heart To Heart was bouncing around the lower end of the list. Now the song starts getting some more attention after James Blunt was performing it on the new show of Thomas Gottschalk. The song leaps 88–40–predecessor Bonfire Heart still performs better at #34.

Also Irish Boyzone benefits from staging at the show. Their album BZ20 released in November past year was featuring the single Love Will Save The Day. In Germany nobody cared about that song until Friday, 7th February. Now Boyzone does have its first single chart entry since 2008.

On the way up
Carlprit enables his biggest hit since his chart debut two years ago. Remember To Forget uses a well calculated sound formula and brings the producer a second time to the upper half–#46 is the result for this week.

Released midweek Invisible by U2 entered the list at number 97 last week. Now with full weeks sales the song jumps to number 48 giving the veterans a second Top50 entry this months after a four years abstinence from the charts.

DSDS juror Kay One sees his ballad Ich hass es dich zu lieben from the album Rich Kidz rising. It is not scheduled for a proper release. Number 52 is a respectable result.

Jason Derulo offers a next single: Trumpets goes 94–71.

Another TV influencend entry
There was a time when criminal serial Tatort hit the streets and launched big hits of its soundtrack. These days are gone long time. A small shade of that fame is blinking right now in the charts. On 9th of February 2014 the last episode with the duo Ritter & Stark was aired. It was a Goodbye after 36 episodes shot since 2001. The significant soundtrack of the episode came from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. The title track of their last album Push The Sky Away was used heavily within the 90 min. As an effect the track can enter the singles list at number 77. It is only the third single chart hit for the Australian band. The last Tatort connected hit entered the chart almost exactly a year ago in the face of SCHMIDT who peaked with her song Heart Shaped Gun at #37.

14th of February 2014:

Another week we see Pharrell Williams Happy about being No.1 in Germany. It is the fifth week at the Top which means Happy is the longest standing No.1 for the singer. Additionally his total of number 1 weeks is 11 which makes him as successful as AVICII. Only Rihanna had more in this decade: a full 16 weeks at the Top since January 1st 2010.

REVOLVERHELD finally has a fourth Top 10 hit with Ich lass für dich das Licht an rising 11–7. The new demand comes due to its release on CD. According to chart position the song already has overtaken Halt dich an mir fest which is so far the most sold single of the band. The highest position REVOLVERHELD gained with Helden 2008 in exactly that year.

A fortnight before its release on CD Can't Remember To Forget You goes Top 10. It is Shakira's 11th Top 10 single in Germany – Rihanna performs much better. So far she has 21 Top 10 singles under her belt–matching the result of ABBA. For becoming the act with most Top 10 singles she has to add some more. The all time record still is an unbelievable amount of 36 Top 10 hits set by Caterina Valente between 1954 and 1962–of course only if you count her hits as Club Italia/Indonesia/Honolulu to herself. Otherwise the record is held by Peter Alexander with 35 Top 10 hits under his own name.

Looks like German producer ZEDD right now becomes a mainstream star. His single Stay The Night (featuring Haley Williams of Paramor) enters the Top 20 at number 15 one week ahead of its release as a proper CD single. In the US he already is a star–decorated with an Grammy award as Best Dance Recording for predecessor Clarity three weeks ago.

TV soap Berlin – Tag und Nacht launches a third hit. After Ole (2012) and Chris Prinz (2013) it is now JJ alias Très Jolie who released a production. Bow! (You Gotta Kick It) lands at number 20 which marks the highest position for a track related to the soap.

Single number 4 from AVICII's album True is the track Addicted To You which will be released as full single in April. Already now the track becomes hit status by rising 95–28. Predecessor Hey Brother performs still well inside the Top 20.

DSDS infected hits
Since 8th of January the 11th season of DSDS (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) is aired. So far only jury member Kay One benefitted from the new presence–his hits V.I.P. and Keep Calm Fuck You returned to the list and sneaking through the bottom down regions of the list. This week also Ich hass es dich zu lieben returns to number 91.

The first song performed by a contestant this week gets in the list. It is the ballad When I Look At You originally recorded by Miley Cyrus that returns at number 60. The original chart appearance stopped in August 2010 at number 85–so this is a new peak. The album the song is taken from The Time Of Our Lives is right now digitally re-released. What an impact for a simple TV show.

Hot Spot 11-01-13

And again Germany does have a new Number 1 hit this week. It is Sweden’s new super DJ/producer AVICII who can set a second track at number 1 this current year. Hey Brother is the track in question – still a week before its release on single CD.

Having two No.1 singles is a feat not that usual in Germany – in 2013 we have this situation already for the second time. In June there was Pharrell Williams credited as an artist for two consecutive Nr.1 hits: First he entered the top alongside Daft Punk on Get Lucky. A fortnight later he was also credited on Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.

Two No.1 hits as a main artist – that's a feat we've last seen in 2009 when Lady Gaga had her hiatus with Poker Face collecting 13 weeks at the Top followed by Paparazzi 15 weeks later.

Watching two artists topping the list twice in a year is a feat much harder to find. In 2008 Katy Perry managed a double with I Kissed A Girl in September and Hot N Cold in December and Timbaland topped the list with Apologize (presenting OneRepublic) and was the man behind 4 Minutes performed and credited to Madonna & Justin (Timberlake). In 2003 we had two main acts having two No.1 hits: first superstar Alexander shot to the Top with Take Me Tonight and Free Like The Wind and The Black Eyed Peas launched Where Is The Love? and Shut Up becoming No.1 hits.

More statistics? AVICII only is the sixth act in this current decade with two No.1 hits. - Three weeks in a row with a completely new track at the Top was last seen in October 2009 when RAMMSTEIN (Pussy) was dethroned by David Guetta Feat. Akon (Sexy Bitch) who were dethroned by Lady Gaga (Paparazzi) who left the Top spot for Robbie Williams (Bodies) after a single week.

Finally I can tell you that 2013 is the second consecutive year that two Swedish productions occupy the Top – meaning Swedish music is popular in Germany than never before. Even between 1991 and 1995 when six different Swedish productions went to Number 1 the time span between that hits where much longer than right now. So it is no surprise realizing the fact that according to number 1 hits only music coming from the USA is more successful in Germany right now.

Talking bout AVICII also leads to a note concerning the voice of Wake Me Up!. Aloe Blacc released an own take on the tune that now enters at number 71. Probably that version won't go number 1 – at least it gives the singer his third official chart entry.

There are some other stories too: The most successful German act in this very moment is the duo Milky Chance. After releasing their album Sadnecessary on CD the track Stolen Dance can climb three more places to number 4 becoming the highest ranking German production since three months. The track itself is available as a digital download only.

After the album Unholy Ground by Sunrise Ave is released and gets number 3 in the album list the single Lifesaver also becomes a Top 10 hit by bouncing 22–9 this week. It is the highest position for the band since it went No.3 two and a half years ago with Hollywood Hills. In reminiscence of that big success the song re-enters at number 36 which marks the highest position for it since two years. The initial success for the band Fairytale Gone Bad from 2006 also can re-enter. It lands at number 46 in its 71st chart week which is actually number 19 of most charted acts.

Justin Bieber surely wants to become the most charting act in 2013. Since three weeks he has started releasing every Friday a new song. The tracks also chart in Germany – of course the target group is a very narrow one, so the tracks leave the list very fast. This week the teenie star manages a double entry. His own new song Hold Tight starts at number 56, the collaboration with TYGA Wait For A Minute shows up at number 63. So far Justin Bieber set up seven different tracks in 2013. Only Flo Rida, Pitbull and - yes - Helene Fischer so far brought more into the list. His summary for the whole decade is 17 – making him the fifth busiest act so far.

Upcoming hits:
New York, Rio, Rosenheim - the title track of the album by Sportfreunde Stiller starts to climb up the charts after the band's tour started a few days ago. This week the song not scheduled for a proper single release stops at number 62.

Scheduled for full release on 2nd November Mark Forster's new single Zu dir (Weit weg) enters the list at number 64.

Probably not really a big future hit Dark Horse by Katy Perry Feat. Juicy J enters at number 81 picked as a single track from freshly released album Prism. In the USA the track was the first promotional track offered in September. In Germany one had to wait till now.

Casting show effects
The current season of The Voice Of Germany just started a few weeks ago. Again Hoss Power and Boss Burns of The BossHoss are part of the jury. In time the band released a new album (Flames Of Flames) and a single (Do It). Latter one sneaks around number 35 for some weeks meanwhile the band's signature song Don't Gimme That returns into the list at number 76.

Max Herre does similar. His biggest hit Wolke 7 returns at number 88.

Also Das Supertalent bans people in front of their TV's. The fourth show aired on 20th October supports songs of Helene Fischer (#74) and Philipp Poisel (#83 + #97).

Hot Spot 10-25-13

Oops – we do have a second No.1 in 2013 coming from France. It is the duo Klingandethat can bring its track Jubel to the top right after it is available as a physical release as well. Still a sale on CD counts up to four times more than a digital sale – that’s the German chart system.

It is the first time since 26 years that within five months two different French acts can reach the German top. Back in 1987 it was Desireless who went to number 1 with Voyage Voyage in August after the spring time was completely La Boum fevered resulting in a number 1 hit for the signature song Reality and the duet between Pierre Cosso & Bonnie Bianco whose Stay occupied the top spot for four weeks in March. – Nice gossip besides: 7 months after Desireless left the top a further French act singing French shined there. It was France Gall with Ella elle l’a who took the batton.

AVICII has a big following single to his hit Wake Me Up! with Hey Brothergoing 10–2. In his home country Sweden the track already reached number 1 as the third single in a row.

Hot Spot 10-18-13

There is a brand new Number 1: James Blunt's Bonfire Heart – it is the first time the British singer can launch a single at the Top in Germany. His breakthrough and worldwide hit You're Beautiful stalled at number 2 in 2005. And also his 1973 stopped there two years later. Now the history is re-written and James Blunt becomes finally a Number 1 act in Germany too.

The man behind Bonfire Heart is Ryan Tedder. He already knows how it feels being the most sold artist. In late 2007 he started his career with his band OneRepublic - its debut Apologize heavily featured by Timbaland had an impressive 9 weeks run at the top. That was stopped by another Tedder penned and produced song Bleeding Love recorded by Leona Lewis. Now - 5 and a half year later - the man is back at the Top. Of course "only" as the hidden on in the behind. Anyway - with having three songs going Top 10 in 2013 seeing him as an musician Ryan Tedder now matches the result of will.i.am.

Wetten dass effect is seen at number 9. John Newman returns to Top 10 with Love Me Again after his performance on the show. The Saturday night event still is a hit factory for the whole family.

AVICII brings a next hit to German music lovers. While Wake Me Up! slowly fades to number 7 and follow up single You Make Me sneaks around number 50 the album track Hey Brother turns into a number 10 success. It is the third Top 10 track for the Swedish DJ - all achieved within two years.

With a new distribution deal Milky Chance's Stolen Dance gets more attention and can jump to number 18 in its 11th chart week. The young man continues the sound of Wankelmut being enormously successful in summer 2013.

A look at the current number 1 of the US Royals by Lorde still is on her way up also in Germany. This week she stops at number 39.

Canadian Drake also still is rising with Hold On, We're Going Home. The song can reach number 41 this week which is the highest position Drake achieved as a leading artist. In February 2011 he climbed to number 12 alongside Rihanna on her single What's My Name.
Some news portals and papers hype YLVIS' The Fox as the new Gangnam Style. Well, the video might be crazy enough, the click rates are high as well - the song itself only sells slowly. This week it reaches the upper half of the survey stopping at number 45.

German Schlager queen Helene Fischer starts her new album Farbenspiel at number 1 of the album list. Leading single Fehlerfrei goes 39–23 and cherry pickers chose dancefloor inspired Atemlos durch die Nacht as the second favourite of the album. The track enters at number 46 as an single album cut.
Her so far longest running hit Ich will immer wieder dieses Fieber spürn also can re-enter the list. It sneaks in at number 85 and very certainly it is outside the Top 100 next week again.

48 years after she appeared for the first time in the German charts Cher does have a come back. After 11 and a half year abstinence from the list her single I Hope You Find It enters at number 49. With this Cher is the act with the longest career in 2013 – The Bee Gees and Heino both present in 2013 too fall three years short behind the lady. In the list of all time careers Cher now sits pretty at number 5 of the longest chart careers. Paul Kuhn (53,5 years), Bing Crosby (almost 53 years), Udo Jürgens (52,5 years) and Johnny Cash (48 years) are the four being successful a longer time span. Of course one could also count John Lennon who started as a member of The Beatles in 1963 and appeared last with his Happy X-mas War Is Over in December 2011 which makes 48 years of chart presence too.
The second track of the physical CD release Woman's World also can enter the list on digital downloads. It is number 66.

Songs to come: Lifted by Naughty Boy Feat. Emeli Sandé 88–64

Hot Spot 09-27-13

Story number one: Katy Perry is not Nr.1. Jason Derulo Feat. 2 Chainz is.

After Superstar winner Beatrice Egli and German raop idol CRO Jason Derulo is the third act in 2013 who can enter the list direct at number 1. Coincidently exactly one year ago we too had a straight number 1 entry with Lila Wolken by Marteria • Yasha • Miss Platnum.

Sliding one place AVICII is no longer the champion of the charts. Instead his album True enters the album list at number 5 and propels five tracks into the singles list. There are Wake me up! at number 2, Hey Brother new at number 24, You Make Me rising 49–40, Addicted To You new at number 71 and LE7ELS re-entering at number 88. The Swedish DJ is only the third act invading the survey with five tracks simultanously. Before that feat were done only by CRO and will.i.am.

More Top 20 action:
Martin Garrix goes Top 5 with Animals. He falls only one rank short to eclipse the success of last Dutch Top 10 act Caro Emerald from the year 2011.

French Woodkid stops his Run Boy Run at number 11 after it is heavily promoted by its use for a vodafone TV commercial. It's the highest rank the artist achieved ever.

The Imagine Dragons launch their third Top 20 hit in Germany with On Top Of The World. It goes up to number 13 this current week. They got big support by their opening concert for the New Pop Festival 2013 in Baden Baden. The event was broadcasted on TV and the internet.

Miley Cyrus rises with Wrecking Ball which lands at number 16 and matching the success of We Can't Stop from last week. It is the highest rank so far for the artist.

And also Family of the Year enters the Top 20 with the song Hero that can reach number 19.

German productions sliding down in popularity. Highest German song is Das kann uns keiner nehmen by Revolverheld which comes in at number 17. That's the lowest result since start of May when Sido's Bilder im Kopf were slowly fading away and landing at number 18.

But there is some hope a few places lower. New German rap star Alligatoah sees his long sleeper Willst du staedily rising. This week it climbs to number 20.

Last story this week: With 15 new entries the list reaches the third highest amount of new songs in one week. Only the issues March 1st (19 new entries) and the one May 31st (24 new entries) looked newer this year.

Hot Spot 09-20-13

AVICII still delivers the most selling single of the week. Wake Me Up! now holds the 10th week firm at the Top. Last track doing so was Rihanna's Diamonds at the tail end of 2012 meaning Wake Me Up! right now is the longest standing Nr.1 of the year. Technically it still can be dethroned, but well … do you believe in miracles?

AVICII not only rewrites the history of the year 2013 – he also approaches the history of Swedish pop music. With 10 weeks on Top in Germany Wake Me Up! is the longest standing No.1 hit coming from Sweden since 19 years. In November 1994 Cotton Eye Joe by the Rednex landed at the Top and hold there for exactly 10 weeks. As far as I know never before a Swedish production performed more successful.

Martin Garrix now hits the Top 10 – his track Animals lands at number 8 this current week.

After released on CD We Can't Stop by Miley Cyrus gets a sales boost and jumps 39–16 in its 14th chart week. With that she reaches a new peak in her whole career. So far 7 Things from 2008 was her highest climbing single stopped at number 17. Upcoming single Wrecking Ball also takes a leap landing at number 25 this week.

Belgian stromae does have a second Top10 hit in Germany with Papaoutai that sits pretty at number 7. His breakthrough track alors on danse also gains some new attention and re-enters at number 72 this current week. It is the highest ranking the track can achieve since January 2011.

A last gossip story: Discobitch is back with its hit C'est beau la bourgeoisie after the track is used in a commercial spot for the new Citroen DS3. In 2009 the recording made it up to number 61 in Germany.

Hot Spot 09-13-13

Now it's done! We do have a second No.1 hit that can hold at the top for 9 weeks. The one doing so is Swedish DJ AVICII with his Europe wide hit Wake Me Up!.

If one is surprised bout that double figure of long standing No1 hits – well, the year 2012 we had with Nooossaa! by Michel Telo and Diamonds by Rihanna two hits spending 10 weeks at the top.

Next single track by AVICII You Make Me enters the list at number 34 this recent week.

Ellie Goulding sees her single Burn rising two places to Nr.4 in its sixth chart week. For the first time she is listed inside the Top 5 and additionally she right now is the second most visible female within the German list in 2013. 62 times she was listed so far. The crown belongs to queen Rihanna who so far has 82 listings under her belt.

After it became a hit in the UK also Sonnentanz by Austrian Klangkarussell is released in new mixes and a completely new vocal version in German speaking countries too. It makes a return to the Top 20 for the first time in half a year. So far the track spent 56 weeks inside the survey – it is the second longest run for a hit right after Tage wie diese by Die Toten Hosen that is listed for the 75th consecutive week right now.

Mentioning Die Toten Hosen – the band right now is the German act most listed in 2013. So far leader CRO now is eclipsed by one single listing – he "only" collected 72 untill now.

Dutch DJ Martin Garrix finally becomes famous also in Germany. His track Animals lands at number 17 – in Switzerland the track already is Number 2. He is the most successful Dutch act since Caro Emerald hit the Top 10 in May 2011.

Past issue I paid attention to two acts that had a bunch of chart hits without touching the Top 10. This week German electronic prince SCHILLER beats all the feats mentioned before. With his new album Opus storming to number 1 on the album list the most touching album from it Swan Lake makes it into the singles list also. The remake of the well known Tchaikovsky song lands at number 57 and is nothing less than the 17th singles chart entry for Schiller. He never peaked higher than number 12.

Hot Spot 09-07-13

It is week number eight at the Top for Wake Me Up! by AVICII. It only falls one week short to eclipse the so far longest holding Nr.1 hit in 2013 Scream & Shout by will.i.am & Britney Spears.

First time since the first week of May this year there is no German song inside the Top 10. Highest production comes in at number 11 in the face of CRO and his Whatever.

With teasing single Too Many Friends from their upcoming album Loud Like Love Placebo reach a new peak in the singles charts by entering directly at number 14. It is the 14th charting single in the band's 18 years long career. Their first chart hit entered the list in 2000 – since than they've never been placed higher then rank 32 in summer 2009. Now their chart history is written new.
The lack of successful single hits is a well known thing. For comparison Iron Maiden charted 15 times in the singles list never climbing higher then number 23. And strongly hyped Oasis had 18 charting singles all stoping lower then number 17.

Also never reaching the Top 10 Miley Cyrus can launch her 11th chart hit in Germany. Wrecking Ball enters on a low number 57.

HotSpot 08-23-13

AVICII still is number 1 with Wake Me Up. It is the sixth week for the song holding firm at the top. In terms of weeks at number 1 Wake Me Up is now the second most successful track of the year right behind will.i.am's & Britney's Scream & Shout that had a 9 weeks run at the top in the beginning of 2013.
For all who loves statistic facts: the track now is the most successive Swedish production since late 2004 when Eric Prydz had a 6 weeks stay at number 1 with Call On Me.

German comedian trio Y-Titty launches its first Top 10 hit with Halt dein Maul entering the charts at number 5. It is the teasing song to its upcoming album Stricksocken Swagger. It is almost a given thing that we will see the trio invading the list in three weeks time.

Hot Spot 08-16-13

Wake Me Up by AVICII stands still for week no. five at the German top. It now belongs to the Top 3 of the longest holding number 1 hits in 2013 joining Let Her Go by Passenger (5x) and Scream & Shout by will.i.am & Britney Spears (9x). And it now matches the success of last years Swedish summer hit I Follow Rivers by Lykke Li.

With CASPER entering number 4 German Raop-style launches a third Top 5 act in one year. After CRO and Marteria have having topped the singles charts Im Ascheregen is the next attempt. CASPER’s album Hinterland follows these days.

At number 10 Ellie Goulding for the first time enters the upper region of the German charts. The song giving her that honour is Burn.

German rap star Shindy can launch four different tracks in the list after the release of its album NWA in the clean 2.0 version. The original shot to number 1 two weeks ago but was banned by the authorities. The four songs entering the singles list are exactly the four new recorded: Stress mit Grund, Springfield 2, Bruce Wayne and Mein Shit. – Shindy is only the fifth artist in 2013 having at least four tracks simultanously invading the list. The four reaching that feat before are CRO, will.i.am, Rihanna and Helen Fischer.

07-26-13

It is the second week for Swedish AVICII at the top of the German list. Exactly one year ago there was the last Number one coming from that Scandinavian country. It was LYKKE LI's I Follow Rivers that had a five weeks run at the very top. In between we had Icona Pop challenging to number 3 with I Love It and of course the last single of the Swedish House Mafia Don't You Worry Child peaking at number 12. Adding Loreen's Eurovision winning song Euphoria to that survey Sweden is the most successful European country besides Great Britain to launch pop music in Germany.

Back to Top 10 status James Arthur now delivers one of the three singles spending more than 13 weeks inside the Top 10. It joins Can't Hold Us by Macklemore X Ryan Dalton (14 times) and Scream & Shout by will.i.am & Britney Spears (17 times only in 2013).

Highest new entry is Stress ohne Grund by German rappers Shindy & Bushido. The song is accompanied by a scandal as the lyrics contain defamations of people of the public life in Germany. Some of them reported an offence to the law. The track (and the album by Shindy containing it) were indexed a week after its release. Of course the scandal did fire demand so Stress ohne Grund lands at number 19 - highest position for a track by Bushido since two years and a peak for newcomer Shindy's career.

Hot Spot 05-03-13

A second week at the top for P!NK Featuring Nate Ruess and their ballad Just Give Me A Reason. P!NK with this week has collected more Top 10 weeks than German Xavier Naidoo and is only one week short of French David Guetta. Next week that will change too.

Finally on stage in Germany the Imagine Dragons see their Radioactive climbing to number 4. It is so far the highest position they achieved worldwide.

Highest new entry comes in at number 6 in the face of Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams. Get Lucky is the highest ranking song ever in the German singles’ charts for both acts.

The release of new mixes (in fact it is only one remix by Noonie Bao) propells I Could Be The One to new heights. AVICII VS Nicky Romero reach a new peak at number 37 after 16 weeks inside the survey.

Labrinth re-enters with Express Yourself the list–the digital single finally is properly released in Germany also.

On the way up is Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell. Blurred Lines got some speed and jumps 92–56. The release of the single is scheduled for June.

DSDS effects
The show aired on April 20th generated some hits as well. First significant effect is the return of Justin Timberlake’s Mirror back to Top 5 status. Ricardo Bielecki staged with the song.
Second winner is Loreen. Her My Heart Is Refusing Me spent only four weeks in the list when it was first released in past November. Now after Susan Albers sang the song live the track is back in the list at number 60.
Erwin Kintop–loser of the show–helps ten years old Lieber Gott back to the list.
And also Lisa Wohlgemuth can activate some fans for buying Morgens immer müde by LAING which she brought on stage in her own version.

DSDS ain’t the only show on TV which propells sales. Also The Voice Kids achieves high rates and a visible effect on the charts. Aired on April 19th the third Blind Audition Show featured 12 years old Sarah who staged with Move In The Right Direction. The original recording by gossip climbs 19 places afterwards. (Additionally the song was featured same night on the third show of Let’s Dance)

Second teen star was Laurin from Austria. He staged with I Won’t Let You Go originally performed by James Morrison. The song counts as one of the most loved for castings–the last four months saw the track charting three times. Always after it was performed on a TV casting.

Also Hindi Zarah gets her very first chart entry in Germany after her song Beautiful Tango was performed by Dana.

After his reincarnation as Snoop Lion the artist formerly known as Snoop Dog releases his frist raggae album. The single taken from it did not reach the audience that well–but the track Smoke The Weed (featuring Collie Buddz) immediatly enters the charts at number 78.

At the very end the current list brings a small sensation for statistics lovers. So far British Black Sabbath in Germany was counted as a pure One hit wonder according to their singles releases. They reached number 1 at the end of 1970 with single Paranoid. And than–no other song entered the singles list. Now with digital release of teasing single God Is Dead for the next album 13 the band gets a second chart entry in Germany. The song lands at number 99–not much but after 42 years the band technically gets status as a two hit act. Plus it narrowly misses the record for being the longest absent act of the singles charts. Only Paul Kuhn has had a longer break outside: 43 an a half year.

Upspeeding Charts With A Small Swiss Invasion

The Christmas rush started. The industry is releasing new material and the audience is buying. The German single’s charts dated November 25th counts 15 new entries. It is the biggest turnover of the list with completely new material. Of course we saw the two first weeks in March 21 resp. 20 tracks entering the charts – back than 10 resp. 6 of that tracks were re-entries. This recent week we do have 15 completely new tracks entering the list. The last time that happened was in February 2010 – almost 2 years ago. So the charts are speeding up right now. Of course there is a lot to tell you about – let’s start right at the top.

With a huge jump Flo Rida enters the number one with his new single Good Feeling. It is the 6th number 1 hit coming fromm an U.S. act in 2011. The states do rule the German (and European) music market. Even after an unusual four month break during late summer nothing really changed. Flo Rida is displacing Rihanna and it’s quite significant that Good Feeling also features an European producer. It is actually Swedish AVICII (Tim Bergling) who milked the formula used for his own Levels once again. It gives both rapper and producer the first ever Number 1 in Germany. Flo Rida took three and a half years reaching the top. It’s a way some others had gone before, however it is far and away from the very common career of storming the top within the first year with one of the first three singles of an act. It took Flo Rida a full 13 singles to get that much interest. He first appeared within the German charts with Low (featuring T-Pain) in 2007. Two years later he had his first big hit with Right Round (featuring Ke$ha). The big boost came late 2010 when his single Club Can’t Handle Me (produced by David Guetta) went number 4. Since then three singles were released crediting him as a performing artist. All three went Top 10. Now Good Feeling as the leading single to his upcoming album Only One Rida (Part 2) is breaking all walls. By climbing to number 1 Flo Rida is definitely one of the big male U.S. stars of now. Only Taio Cruz is someone who has similar popularity right now.

The highest new German release enters the list at position 5. It is the recent single of Rammstein lifted from their upcoming Best of album Made In Germany 1995-2011. As always the track is controversial, ironical and disambiguitive. The title Mein Land (My Country) refers to a strong self-assertion on one hand and to really right wing nationalism on the other hand. As always the band identifies itself as unpolitical – the video by Jonas Åkerlund is a comic strip on a 60s beach party. Trying to encode the signs and quotes leads nowhere. It is an empty style using a lot of clichees – it’s your own turn to love or hate it.

Usually the hits of Rammstein only spend some few weeks in the charts. Certainly also Mein Land will leave the list before the change of years.

Maybe we will see the new song from Pietro Lombardi a few weeks longer. Goin’ To L.A. is only the third single and it is completely new material – however the track misses the top 20. Is the career of the 2011 superstar over after only six months? Well – all the teenies and casting addictives are waiting for the winner of the Supertalent show. No need for stars of the springtime at all.

Another participant of the DSDS casting in springtime finally starts a career by releasing singles. Ardian Bujupi – the number 3 although he was far and away the best performer of the crowd – appears with This Is My Time. It is teen pop as well however it surprises by using strongly dancehall beats and effects. In terms of music this single is the most interesting a contestant of the last DSDS season had released. In terms of sales he unfortunately fails by only reaching position 40. Hopefully he himself does have enough strength for releasing further material. He really might become a popstar.

There is a next casting format starting on German TV. The Voice of Germany differs the most by the choice of the jury. Besides Nena, Xavier Naidoo and Rea Garvey the two front men of German country band BossHoss try to find the most amazing voice. Possibly they are the most unknown inside the show – they never had a commercial hit single although their five albums all reached the upper ranks at the album charts – only the first one missed narrowly the Top 10.

A week before the show starts on TV the band releases a new single. Don’t Gimme That immediately enters position 42. It is so far the second highest rank the band ever reached missing the result of the very first single Hey Ya! by only one place.

Let’s switch from an upcoming TV event to a past one. On November 10th the ceremony of the BAMBI awards took place. Once upon a time it was the most important German award in media and music business. Meanwhile there are doubts ’bout the importance of this „event“. The well planned scandal of this year’s BAMBI was the decoration of rapper Bushido with the award for integration.

The relevance of the award to music business shows up with sales right after the show. As an effect of her performance at the show (plus decoration with the price as Best international Artist) Lady Gagas new single Marry The Night enters at a low position 44. – Gagamania seems kind of cooled down. The lady is on tour in Europe to promote her new single and fails even in Britain (#18 after a performance at an X Factor result show !!) Well, it is the fifth single from her Born This Way album. Almost everybody owns a copy, isn’t it? – The full CD single release of Marry The Night is scheduled for 2nd December. The prospects of becoming a huge hit are very small.

Somewhat like an comeback can be witnessed at position 45. Singer Christian Franke had a hit in 1982 with Ich wünsch dir die Hölle auf Erden (I Wish You To Hell). Two follow up medium hit singles were released in 1982 and than a long silence broke down around him. In 2009 a short appearance back in the list with new material and now – again 2 years later – it seems the singer is back for real. Der Apfelbaum (The Apple Tree) is a kitschy ballad asking why people do all the bad things on earth: nuclear weapons, wars, environmental pollution, injustice ... The video shows star actor Heiner Lauterbach trying to explain that cruel world to his child. A serious topic, unfortunately produced to death by David Brandes and drowned in panpipe sound by Edward Simoni. I guess the result doesn’t change the world … it’s a pity.

A funny story full with trivias can be found around Ilhama. The singer from Azerbaijan won the national casting for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 – however Ell/Nikki participated in Düsseldorf and won. Ilhama finally also enters Europe with her version on Bei mir bist du scheen a classic tune grown famous by The Andrews Sisters. The track alone wouldn’t find any new fan – combined with a beat and fitted to recent electro-swing hype the Azerbaijan singer can enter the German list at position 48. Producer of the hit is German DJ OGB. I guess the track might have a chance of growing.

Lowest German new entry can be found at position 82. Tom Lüneburger is a young German singer songwriter who right now announces his second album. As lead single he offers we are one a duet with the voice of Silbermond Mrs. Stefanie Kloß. It’s a combination copying the formula young singer plus well known voice/face like heard before with Revolverheld feat. Marta Jandová or Bosse & Anna Loos. Well, it works again.

Let's have a look to Germany's neighbour Switzerland. Right now it sends some popular releases into the hit list – leading the bunch is still DJ Antoine with two hits Welcome To St. Tropez and Ma chérie. Mike Candys & Evelyn ft. Patrick Miller are still strong in sales with their One Night in Ibiza. This week two further Swiss productions join the club.

DJ Remady is hard on the heels of his famous colleagues and launches a second hit in Germany. Give Me A Sign is a late follow up to I’m No Superstar showing up in the lists last year. The new offer enters at position 58 – it is the highest rank so far for the DJ.

And finally an old mate is back: In 2011 DJ BOBO gave his 1001st concert. It was in Las Vegas and Mr. Bobo was quite impressed by the city – his next album is to be called Dancing In Las vegas. The first single taken from that release is Everybody’s Gonna Dance. If you love to listen to DJ Bobo you will for sure love the track too. So far the single performs bad. Position 70 is one of the worst placing ever. Only Colors Of Life stalled 5 places lower in 2001.

If you can count properly you get 5 Swiss productions inside the German chart. I guess that's quite a novum … if you do have closer informations, please let me know.

New German Releases Appear

Once again Rihanna serves the top single of the week. We Found Love holds the third week there – it is now the second longest stand for a Rihanna-track at the top. The crown of being the most durable Nr.1 goes to Umbrella that had a five weeks run at the top in June 2007.

I was talking 'bout fading German releases last week. This week everything changes rapidly by the latest single releases from Udo Lindenberg’s and culcha candela. Let's start with veteran singer who is very successful with his MTV unplugged – Live aus dem Hotel Atlantic album. The song in question – Cello – was originally released in 1973 with the album Alles klar auf der Andrea Doria (Everything's going right at Andrea Doria). Although it became the most popular song of the album besides the title track it was never released as a single. Now it enters the list at number 4 giving Udo Lindenberg the highest chart place ever as a solo artist. So far Sonderzug nach Pankow (Special Train Service To Pankow – Pankow is a quarter within the eastern part of Berlin) from 1983 – a cover version of Chattanooga Choo Choo with political cold war lyrics – held that crown by reaching number 5. Only once Udo Lindenberg saw himself higher in the singles’ ranking. It was in 1985 when the benefit projekt Band für Afrika he was joining climbed to number 3 in Germany.

Naming Udo Lindenberg as one of the most famous German artists today refers almost only to his album releases. The new version of Cello is only the third single that can reach Top 10 status. That's quite strange due to the fact that a lot of his songs (including Cello) are enormously popular.

Duetting partner at Cello is singer Clueso. His biggest hits so far were Keinen Zentimeter (Not A Single Centimeter) in 2008 and Gewinner (Winner) in 2009 that reached number 15 and 21. The collaboration with the senior star gives the young man from Erfurt his first ever Top 10 hit and probably a chance to reach a bigger audience. The album list already saw Clueso twice close to the top. As an effect of his performance side by side with Udo Lindenberg one of his very first singles is back in the list. chicago from 2006 appears for a week at position 100.

14 places behind Lindenberg/clueso another German act enters the list. culcha candela promotes its fifth studio album named Flätrate (you already guessed what it means) by releasing the single Hungry Eyes. It is another song about the female vamp searching for helpless men. Strange phantasies the boys hanging on … so far the mainstream audience is attracted by sound and story …

Let's mention here the third best sold German song of the week. It is a known one hanging around the upper ranks for several weeks. This recent issue Glasperlenspiel with ECHT drops 14–19.

There is a high new entry in Germany with prospects of climbing much further and becoming a huge hit. Swedish producer/DJ Tim Bergling/AVICII launches his hit Levels even before it is offically released in Germany. The big download portals like amazon list Levels as available from 20th November on. The actual list dated 18th November covers sales between 4th and 10th November. This list shows the track as new entry at position 6. I guess it clearly underlines amazon's role at the dance market. I find it quite worthful watching how sales develope after 20th November.

Further down the charts two new German productions appear. First of all the digital version of Rio De Janeiro enters the list. The new track offered by the Michael Mind Project refers to well known sound mixing the style of DJ Antoine and Benny Benassi. The vocals come from Bobby Anthony & Rozette – both absolutely unknown to German audience. Let’s wait two more weeks when physical single sales also count. Than we can decide whether this track is a hit or just a medium dance production.

Fans of Oktoberfest hits might not be depressed – next carnival season knocks at the door with approaching 11th November. A few days before that date Cologne band HÖHNER released a new single. 6 bis 8 Stunden Schlaf (6 to 8 hours sleep) is exactly that – a carnival anthem to lazy times. Probably it will disappear after two or three weeks and re-appear later in February, than for sure with much more power.

The Supertalent story of the week is 15 years old Felicitas Franke. She performed on 5th November at the show a song from Amanda Marshall. Let It Rain is an almost unknown song in Germany. It rised to number 73 only in 1996. After the performance at the supertalent show the song re-enters the list at number 90. For a track from the 90s it is an impressive feat.
