December 1st 17: BAUSA Is Most Successful German Rap Act

These are the last five weeks of 2017. Most of the best selling and record breaking feats are done. Anyway these weeks can serve with some surprises. Let's start with #1:
It is BAUSA's eigth week at the top with Was du Liebe nennst which means that he is now the German hiphop act with most weeks at #1 at all. Sido so far only has seven weeks at #1 under his belt.
Now the question is: Will Bausa manage to be #1 at Christmas time too?

Equipped with an official (commercial) video clip now Justin Bieber + Bloodpop make a jump back inside the top 10. Friends lands at #4 and reaches a new peak after it already spent 14 weeks on the survey. It is only the second top10 week for the song.

Highest new entry sits at #7 in the face of German Youtube star Katja Krasavice. Her chart debut is Doggy.

With Nico Santos going 27–14 it is the highest appearance for a Spanish artist within a year. Although the singer is also German the success of Rooftop probably is more a home made thing.

As this is the first list of December there are of course some classic Christmas songs back on the list. First of all All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey from 1994 re-appears at #37. It is the 13th chart run for that song–only once it started its seasonal career higher. That was back in 1994 when it jumped to #34 after a week dropping completely out off the top100.
Also Last Christmas by Wham! is back. It started its 22nd chart run at #52. So far the song collected 125 chart weeks–it is the second most all times. Plus right now the British duo is the longest running chart act still selling songs with almost 35 years. Runners up are Die Toten Hosen with a little more than 29 years. Of course the latter one still recording songs.

Certainly a lot more Christmas tunes will invade the list and change the face of the charts rapidly. So let's have a look at the classics right now. Longest running hit inside the top 100 still is Ohne mein Team by Bonez MC Raf Camora Feat. Maxwell. In its 65th chart week the track sits pretty at #72. It now ranks inside the top 20 of longest consecutively running hits of all time.
Second longest running recent hit is Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran that gains five places again at #27 in its 47th week.
And also hit of the year Despacito is one of the long runners with 44 weeks at #41.

After ten years of chart abstinence Craig David is back at #92. His new single I Know You Features band Bastille.

August 25th 17: New #1 After Four Months

Almost exactly four months after Despacito climbed to #1 for the very first time the song drops off the pole position and gives way for the succeeder. It is this the former #2 More Than You Know by Axwell /\ Ingrosso a Swedish DJ and producer duo that follows AVICII who was the last proper Swedish #1 act in 2013.
Axwell /\ Ingrosso grab the chart crown almost exactly two years after they first appeared as a duo inside the German list. Both already collected chart honor as members of the Swedish House Mafia which made its chart debut exactly seven years ago.
After a period of two really long running #1 hits More Than You Know only is the fourth #1 song in 2017–one should add: in late August.

Hard on the heels of Despacito the next Latin inspired hit in Spanish follows as Mi Gente by J Balvin & Willy William rises a further place to #3 in its eighth chart week.

The highest new entry lands at #5. It is the new offering by Justin Bieber on which he teams up officially with producer BloodPop(R). Latter one already produced Bieber's hit Sorry–now he starts his own chart career with Friedns.
Justin Bieber meanwhile is on the way of becoming again the artist with most top 10 hits in one calendar year. Friends already is his fourth (including his appearance on the remix of Despacito).

August 11th 17: Longest Running No.1 Since 27 Years

Indeed Despacito by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee feat. Justin Bieber is the best sold song for a 16th week and now is the longest running #1 since 1990 when Matthias Reim had that exactly run with Verdammt ich lieb' dich. And so both songs share the honor of being the second longest running #1 hit of the weekly German charts since 1971. Of course if one takes in account the time of the fortnightly or monthly chart issues there are four songs more that performed better.

The only new top 10 song is the all star collaboration with Calvin Harris Ft. Pharrell Williams Katy Perry & Big Sean. By landing at #9 Feels gives the lady of that posse her second top 10 hit in 2017–all together she does have 11 top 10 hits on her account. DJ Calvin Harris now ads an eighth top 10 hit to his–last one is back a year ago with My Way that peaked at #5. Pharrell Williams had his last top 10 appearance back in 2014 when he brought his eponymous Happy to #1 status. Only Big Sean is really new on this chart height. So far he peaked at #12 alongside Jessie J with Wild in July 2013.

A significant rise is done by Dua Lipa's fifth chart hit New Rules. It goes 70–45 in its second chart week and directly follows top 10 hit Scared To Be Lovely on which she appeared as featured artist and got her highest chart appearance so far with #9.

At #46 a next German gangster rapper starts his song charts career. It is VEYSEL who can launch Bargeld as the highest new entry of the week.

A tiny move done from 51–49 gets the honor of attention here as Camila Cabello achieves to reach the upper half of the charts as an solo artist for the very first time. The song giving her that crown is Crying In The Club and it already sneaks through the 50s and 60s for almost three months.

July 21st 17: Miami Yacine Outsells 187 Strassenbande Beats Kollegah

No change at the top: Despacito holds firm a 13th week. Still it is the version featuring Justin Bieber that sells most copies so the honour goes to all three Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee plus Canadian Justin Bieber. 13 weeks at #1 bring the song under the twenty longest running #1 hits of all times. If one only count modern weekly chart issues Despacito belongs to the 11 longest running #1s.
Talking about #1 stats I have to add: There are two weeks more to go for Despacito to eclipse the result of predecessor Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran from the beginning of 2017.
Having these two long runners back to back we witness a situation last seen exactly 60 years ago! In 1957 it was Margot Eskens and her version of Cindy Oh Cindy that spent five complete months at the top or 150 days or 21 weeks and 3 days–which is the longest running #1 hit Germany ever had. Followed by the three months run at the top of Banana Boat by Harry Belafonte that year had 242 days with only two different songs topping the list. Right now the result of Shape of You and Despacito sums up to 196 days. With weekly changed charts of course instead of monthly issues.

As the Imagine Dragons rise a single place to #2 with Thunder it is the first time since January 2014 that the highest European production only ranks at #3. This week it is OK by Robin Schulz Feat. James Blunt that slides 2–3 in its ninth chart week.

As calm the single's chart look as sensational the album lust appears. At #1 the new Sampler 4 by 187 Strassenbande arrives. It is an all star collection of course providing heavily new tracks by Bonez MC and Gzuz. The Hamburg collective definitely is the new German rap nobility as it beats out the new Kollegah release Legacy that only ranks at #2. 12 months ago no one ever would suspect that.
On the other hand the Hamburg crew isn't the only player on the field at all. Dresden KMN Gang at least releases hit tracks in amounts–even this week Miami Yacine beats 187 Strassenbande with his new track Bon Voyage taht lands at #5. Millionär by the Hamburg gang is outsold at #6.

All in all there 41 songs in German inside the list–a feat last seen on December 18th 2015.

June 16th 17: Justin Bieber Serves Best #1 in Spanish Ever

The next days summer holidays start in Germany. The hit of this summer already is obvious. It is Despacito that holds firm at the top spot for an eighth consecutive week. It is this also the longest running #1 hit in Spanish Germany ever had. So far summer hit of 2002 The Ketchup Song by Las Ketchup was. Of course the lyrics of that hit were some kind of fantasy Spanish–so again Ricky Martin's La copa de la vida from 1998 might be counted as the predecessor with six consecutive weeks at #1.
Talking 'bout records: Justin Bieber who joins Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee on the most popular version of the song (according to all available download rankings) might stand as the first Canadian who appears on the German top for two months since Celine Dion in 1998.

At #3 Justin Bieber appears again. On David Guetta's new single 2U the Canadian sings the lyrics and launches a third simultaneous top 10 hit this week. Last time he did so was back on November 20th 2015.
So both Bieber & Guetta are the first acts in 2017 having three hits inside the top 10.

Newly to the top 10 French Montana stands at #8 with Unforgettable. It is the first appearance as high in Germany. Collaborating partner Swae Lee already has top 10 experience as Rae Sremmurd peaked at #8 in December 2016 with Black Beatles.
And also the new single by jonas blue Mama comes in. At #9 it is the third top 10 hit for the British DJ/producer. Only predecessor By Your Side failed as a hit.

With an acoustic version available online Attention by Charlie Puth finally can made it into the top 20. In its eighth chart week the song 22–14 giving the singer his second highest chart entry after #1 single See You Again back in spring two years ago.

The story of the album charts is the new album by Bushido. The Berlin based rap star storms to #1 with Black Friday. On the single charts all 14 tracks appear on the survey best performing pre-released single Papa which slides down 17–20 in its third chart week. Lowest on is Angst at #73 featuring Ali Bumaye.
Bushido now ranks as the German chart act with most entries at all leaving Kollegah eight entries behind him. To really get the chart crown he needs five more chart hits to equal the result of Peter Alexander who collected 81 different songs inside the charts.

The invasion of Bushido tracks also causes a result of 17 new tracks inside the list. It equals the number of April 21st 2017 which was the highest this current year so far. Plus two new entries this week has the second biggest change of hits in 2017–only the very first list of the year had the number of 20 (Christmas) songs leaving the charts.

As Hulapalu by Andreas Gabalier this week leaves the survey there is a new longest running hit. It is Ohne mein Team by Bonez MC & RAF Camora feat. Maxwell which sits pretty at #60 in its 41st week.

May 12th 17: The Superstar Who Ain't Top 20

It is the third week at #1 for Despacito by Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee (plus featured Justin Bieber on the remix version).
Meanwhile No Roots by Alice Merton rises one further place to #2 in its 145h chart week.
Past weeks highest new entry I'm The One by all star collaboration of Dj Khaled Justin Bieber Quavo Chance The Rapper & Lil Wayne goes up two places to #5. It is the fifth top5 entry for Justin Bieber (the sixth if one adds the current #1 on his account too).

At #21 there is a kind of sensation as the winner of the 14th season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar Alphonso Williams completely fails to reach the top 20. It is the worst result of a Superstar winner at all. Even scandalized Severino made a top 10 entry in 2015. Is this the end of this format at all?
Runners up Alexander Jahnke at least can achieve #34 with his Halt alle Uhren an. That's a result known by past years contestants. Of course a few years back even the seconds of the show were a sure top 10 act. Times changed.

May 5th 17:

Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee (and Justin Bieber) spend a second week at #1 of the German charts. Doing so Despacito is the most successful #1 in Spanish since Las Ketchup's Ketchup Son (Aserejé) in summer 2002. So this hit is as epic as wikipedia tells.

Hidden #1 artist Justin Bieber has another top 10 entry as he is featured on the highest new entry I'm The One by DJ Khaled. It is his eighth top 10 appearance at all and so he is the biggest name on this collaboration. All other featured artists as there are Quavo (of MIGOS), Chance The Rapper and Lil Wayne have their highest chart appearance with I'm The One starting at #7. Leading act DJ Khaled meanwhile celebrates his German chart debut.

Second Canadian inside the top 10 Alice Merton can climb three further places with No Roots and reaches the top 3.

Biggest gainer of the week jumps 41 places to #11. It is Kontrollieren the new offering by Hamburg Crew 187 Strassenbande credited in detail to Bonez MC | RAF Camora | Gzuz | Maxwell. Further down also Adel Tawil reaches top 20 status with Ist da jemand – first time since two years.
At #20 also Welshly Arms enter with Legendary. The title song of the Power Rangers movie rise 19 places in its fifth chart week. That move probably is caused by the announcement that the song is the next Beck's campaign anthem. We might see the song rising further the next weeks.

April 28th 17: First No.1 In Spanish Since Six Years

After 15 weeks there is a new #1 in Germany. It is Puerto Rican duo Luis Fonsi Ft. Daddy Yankee that climbs one further place to get the honor of being the song with biggest sales. It ends not only the longest #1 run of a song within two decades but also a 47 weeks long presence of Europeans at the top and additionally a 30 weeks long domination of British acts at the top–the longest one in whole chart history.

Despacito is the first song in Spanish reaching the German #1 since Danza Kuduro in August 2008–incidently sung by Puerto Rican Don Omar (alongside main act Lucenzo). Despacito reaches #1 in its 13th chart week–it is a long rise but far and away a feat hardly seen. Last song taking 13 weeks to #1 was Catch And Release by Matt Simons in January 2015.
While Luis Fonsi achieving #1 with his first chart hit in Germany ever Daddy Yankee had an almost 12 years long time span to cover. Not mentioned on the official survey although his appearance on the remix definitely is the spark to fire Despacito to #1 Justin Bieber celebrates his second #1 hit in Germany.

After three weeks at #6 Jason Derulo Feat. Nicki Minaj & Ty Dolla $ign gain two more places. Swalla is Derulo's fourth top 5 hit, Nicki Minaj appears there for a second time meanwhile Ty Dolla $ign gets his highest chart appearance ever.

New inside the top 10 British/Canadian Alice Merton goes. Roots is her first chart hit ever.

With Nummer 1 sliding one place to #11 this is again a week without any German production inside the top 10. It is already the eighth week in 2017 doing so–means only nine weeks had at least one German production performing at #10 or higher. Seems this year is quite international oriented.

Highest new entry comes in at #15. There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back is Shawn Mendes' fifth chart hit and the fourth entering the top 20. All that within one and a half year.
Two further new songs inside the top 20 can be found at #16 as Good Life by G-Eazy climbs nine places and Nicht jetzt by KC Rebell & Summer Cem enters the charts at #20 for the very first time.

Sept 23rd 16:

DJ Snake and Justin Bieber a second week top the German list with Let Me Love You. With DJ Snake the 17th consecutive week a French act is noted at #1 spot. Justin Bieber's second #1 week makes him the best performing Canadian since past years Francesco Yates who had a three weeks run at the top alongside Robin Schulz on Sugar.

After four month finally a British act approaches the very top again. It is Rag'n'Bone Man with his Human that goes 6–2 and takes the baton from Kyla who alongside Drake was the last British occupying the runners up position (and higher).

The duo of past week Bonez MC & RAF Camora see their album Palmen aus Plastik tumbling down to #5 on the album's list. Still they do have 10 single tracks on the song list, Ohne mein Team best performing at #8. This feat truly is new for German hiphop albums.

Highest new entry comes in at #9. Philipp Poisel returns after four years to top 10 status with Erklär mir die Liebe as solo artist. In between he had a #1 visit as member of Band Aid 30 in December 2014.

New inside the top20 at #18 current single of 257ers is. Holz now matches the result of predecessor Holland. Highest chart entry of the band still is Baby du riechst peaking at #14 two years ago.

Biggest gainers are:
Kokaina by Miami Yacine jumping 46 places to #46
Keine Maschine by Tim Bendzko leaping 35 places to #43
Still Falling For You by Ellie Goulding rising 30 places to #47
Mercy by Shawn Mendes going up 26 places to #69

Sept. 16th 16: Justin Bieber's First No.1 / MC Bonez Beats Jackson

After ten weeks there is a new #1 in Germany–and this is a #1 telling stories. With Justin Bieber and DJ Snake two artists reach the top that did not before. In the case of Justin Bieber it is somehow surprising. The highly celebrated and talked about media star of now took exactly seven year to get here. On September 18th 2009 he first appeared at #14 with One Time. His first top10 entry appeared in spring 2012 as featured artist on Far East Movement's single Live My Life that peaked at #8. His first proper hit as a solo artist came back in September 2015 when What Do You Mean? shot to #4. Now finally he grabs the chart crown with his 35th chart entry–although Let Me Love You is again a collaboration.
Additionally to his first #1 Justin Bieber this weeks also serves with the longest running track on the list. Due to the dropout of Glasperlenspiel's Geiles Leben after 55 weeks now Love Yourself is the longest running song with 44 chart weeks.
Bieber's partner on the song is celebrated DJ Snake who already had five chart hits before, one of them Lean On (alongside Major Lazer & Mø) reaching #4 in 2015.
Again there is a French artist on top of the German charts–DJ Snake is the fourth in a row and France the most present country at #1 in 2015 so far.

The Chainsmokers Ft. Halsey also reach a new peak. Closer goes up three places and lands at runners up position.

On the album's list there also is a new #1–this is something very common these times. The winner of the week are MC Bonez & RAF Camora and their album Palmen aus Plastik. For MC Bonez it is already the second album #1 in 2016–that's really an impressive feat. Back in June he shot to the top alongside Gzuz with high & Hungrig 2.
The #1 album launches a lot of entries on the song list too. Highest track is Ohne mein Team (feat. Maxwell) that jumps 44–7.
All together all 15 tracks of the album chart for themselves. It is more than the Beginners did two weeks ago and so the album with the biggest impact on the singles charts in 2016. Compared to other years only Kollegah did better: in 2015 Zuhältertape Vol.4 launched 17 out of 20 album tracks and 2014 18 of 20 tracks from the album King entered the singles list. With 24 charted single tracks in one year MC Bonez now performed better than Michael Jackson in 2009 when "only" 23 songs of the artist appeared on the charts in one calendar year.

The biggest gainer is the new offering by SIA. The Greatest is the direct follower to her #1 hit Cheap Thrills and lands at #14 this current week. Partner Kendrick Lamar by this reaches a career peak.

Three years after her last release Lady Gaga is back. Perfect Illusion has the power of becoming the highest new entry of the week. Although #31 is somehow low compared to 2009 when she was the queen of pop.

Further gainer:
69–41 Side To Side Ariana Grande Ft. Nicki Minaj

August 19th 16:

* week nr.7 at the top for Imany and her Don't Be So Shy" / 11th consecutive week with a French productions on top which matches the result of Words by F.R. David in autumn 1982

* DJ Snake & Justin Bieber rise four places to #4 with Let Me Love You which gives the Canadian singer two simoultaneous Top 5 hits (the other one Cold Water alongside Major Lazer sits pretty at #2) / it tops his presence of the beginning 2016 / Bieber right now is the most present artist in 2016 German charts with 78 weeks (only topped by Diplo who collects weeks as part of Major Lazer, Jack Ü and solo), 26 of them inside the top 10

* new inside top 20: Disturbed with their take on The Sound Of Silence going 22–13 in its 11th week / the original by Simon & Garfunkel reached #9 in 1966
The Chainsmokers launch their second top20 hit right at #20 with Closer coming from #43

* highest new entry is second single from Beginner's upcoming album Advenced Chemistry / title is Es war einmal… / first single Ahnma still sits pretty at #21
watching the video one might find similarities to Holz by 257ers / that song rises 13 ranks to its new peak at #44

* British music further disappears: only 11 songs out of 100 involve British artists

July 29th 16: Duo of the Week – Major Lazer + Justin Bieber

It is week no.4 for French Imany at the very top of the German list. As Don't Be So Shy sits pretty at #1 Imany becomes the most successful French female solo singer since 1988. Back than France Gall had have a four weeks run at the top of the German charts with Ella elle l'a.
Of course there where some other (male ore mixed) acts in between occupying the top for longer. Still this week is something not seen for very long. With David Guetta and KUnGS predecessing at #1 this is the eighth week with a French act on top. We had that situation for last in autumn 1989 with Kaoma's Lambada ruling the list for ten weeks.

It's not only the current #1 worth talking of. Also #2 is a pretty item for statistical interpretation as it is not only the highest new entry but also a collaboration between the superstars of now. As we have a look on the list ranking the most present acts of 2016 so far there is DJ and producer DIPLO leading the survey as part of Major Lazer, Jack Ü and even under his own name with 88 appearances/weeks–Major Lazer as proper main act so far collected 70 weeks with three hits. In between them Canadian Justin Bieber ranks with four hits collecting all together 72 weeks. That massive power all combined now shots to #2 with Cold Water giving all involved their biggest chart entry to date. Justin Bieber collected two #3 hits in past year 2015, Major Lazer did have two #4 hits same year.
The Bieber-Diplo combination ain't as new as one might think. In 2015 both had a meeting under the Jack Ü project with Where are Ü now which spent complete 46 weeks in the list peaking at #33 in May 2015. In 2016 few changes where made probably supporting the huge success. One of these changes is the appearance of Danish . She became known with her performance on Major Lazer's Lean On. Meanwhile she has an own chart entry with Final Song entering the top 50 this current week. She was invited to join the recent super crew too. Well–super crew ... still peaking at #2. Maybe it is just a regular crew of mainstream stars.

Two further songs are entering the top 10. At #9 the new Shawn Mendes single Treat You Better lands after a 4 places rise in its eighth chart week. He right now is the third Canadian act this current week appearing inside the top 10.
At #10 Sing Me To Sleep by Alan Walker stops. With this entry he also launches his second top10 hit.

#13 is the stop for the second biggest gainer of the week. Bonfire by Felix Jaehn Feat. ALMA is a sure hit for late summer. It jumps 19 places in its second chart week and makes singer ALMA the best performing Finnish act since Sunrise Ave reached the top 10 in November 2013 with Lifesaver.
Also new inside the top 20 Mike Perry is. His track The Ocean goes 21–15 in its seventh chart week. Besides Galantis and Zara Larsson he is the thrid Swedish act inside the Top 20.

Biggest gainer of the week takes 22 places stopping at #24. It is the second hit single by jonas blue. Although Perfect Strangers took some time to catch fire. It is already the eighth chart week for the song.

Watching the whole list again one might notice the very low presence of British acts. Only twelve songs on the survey feature British people. Compared to the heights of almost 29 in 2015 this current year seems to be a very hard for the UK.

Nov 20th 15: Biebermania

First of all there is no story atop. Adele's Hello still outsells all other competitors and spends a fourth week at #1. It is her 50th top 10 week at all which introduces her to the top 3 female artists of this decade as she accompanies Lady Gaga (50 top 10 weeks since the beginning of 2010 as well) and Rihanna (112 top 10 weeks in this current decade alone).

The story of #2 is much more impressive. Geiles Leben by Glasperlenspiel spends a sixth consecutive week there. It is now the longest running #2 hit since 2011. Back than it was Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera that had a seven weeks run at the runners up position.

The top story comes at #3 of the album's list. There the new album of Justin Bieber lands. It misses again the top like all other releases before. Still it is the strongest seller of the teenie idol missing the #1 due to new releases of giants like Helene Fischer and One Direction. The true impact can be seen by a look at the single's list. Sorry climbs one place to #4 again, at #7 Love Yourself enters as the most cherry picked song of the new collection, and even his first release this year What Do You Mean? returns to top 10 status at #8. So we have three Bieber releases inside the top 10 accompanied by five further tracks invading the lower end of the charts.
Three songs of one artist simultaneously inside the top 10–that's a feat hardly seen. I just remember the impressive breakthrough of Lena in 2010. Can anybody remember a further case?

Thanks to a performance on The Voice of Germany on Friday 13th Ed Sheeran's Photograph swaps back to #10 adding a 14th top 10 week to its account. Although the longest running top 10 hit right now is Lieblingsmensch by Namika sitting pretty at #9.
Talking 'bout European acts it is this week a special one as we see "only" seven tracks coming from Europe. It is the worst figure since the first week of 2015. So this year is a pretty good for European music–even better than 2014. On the other hand a former big player in pop business really suffers from success. US American productions heavily miss the very big attention they got for decades. Last week there were only 23 tracks featuring US American acts. This week the top 10 is completely free from acts of the USA. The highest US American rises to #11 in the face of Matt Simons. His Catch & Release attracts people in Germany due to a remix–by Dutch project Deepend. The highest song truely produced in the USA stucks at #15 featuring the two superstars Charlie Puth & Meghan Trainor on the song Marvin Gaye.

The other country on the sub-continent Canada is in opposite as successfull as hardly before. As mentioned above Justin Bieber serves with eight entries but he is not the only Canadian inside the list. With the arrival of The Weeknd's The Hills at #20 there are five tracks inside the top 20 involving Canadians. In total there are 15 tracks under appearance of Canadians inside the Top 100 include newcomer Alessia Cara who enters at #96.

At #48 a reaction on the Parisian suicide attacks on Novembre 13th arrives. As an act of solidarity with the 89 killed at Le Bataclan theatre a campaign was created to buy the song Save A Prayer in the cover version of EoDM (Eagles of Death Metal). Originally the song was recorded by British Duran Duran in 1982. The band announced that it will donate their proceeds from the campaign to charity.

Oct 30th 15: Adele is back

After weeks of almost no movement at all between the top places it is this week a complete change. Due to Adele's latest offering–the album announcing Hello–there is the fourth straight #1 in 2015 and an almost forgotten sound back at the very top. Almost exactly three years after Skyfall hit the top in Germany the singer is back with a third #1 song and is now the fifth act doing so in this current decade.

The straight rise to #1 also ends a 12 weeks presence of German productions at the top. A feat last seen in 2007 when Mark Medlock & Dieter Bohlen, Monrose, Azad Feat. Adel Tawil and Culcha Candela passed the #1 crown to each other for exactly 12 consecutive weeks.

Not only #1 turns out completely new. Also #3 features a straight new entry in the like of Justin Bieber who features his upcoming album with a second single called Sorry. The song was produced by Skrillex as predecessor What Do You Mean was. But the new song sets a new peak for the Canadian teenie star as it lands as high as no other song of Bieber before. It is only the fourth top10 song for him.
Meanwhile predecessor What Do You Mean? returns to the top10 spending a sixth week inside it. Which also means that three tracks recorded by Canadians invades the top10 this current week.

The biggest gainers this week are:
Bedingungslos by Sarah Connor that goes 62–30
Hotline Bling by Drake 53–28
Melodie by CRO 69–44
and
Catch & Release by Matt Simons 80-61
Same Old Love by Selena Gomez 79–62
Never Forget You by Zara Larsson & MNEK 88–69

September 4th 15: Namika goes no.1

Ups–Namika gains the #1 spot although on the midweek charts she held firm at #3. Over the past weekend she definitely benefited from her performance on the Bundesvision Song Contest where she became seventh with her new single Hellwach (starting chart life at #62). The final push was given by a video post on facebook made on Monday/Tuesday by Sarah Engels who declared her love to Pietro Lombardi with a cover of Lieblingsmensch. Within half a day more than 50.000 fans watched the video–and charged the original.

Namika is the third German act in a row that reaches the top spot. It is this a similar situation as in early summer 2014 when Andreas Bourani, Aneta Sablik, CRO and Robin Schulz (alongside Lilli Wood & The Prick) had a continous run there. As actually Aneta Sablik is a Polish singer casted on a German TV show with a German producer–one might argue whether this period count for Germany. The last female German by pasport on the top of the German singles charts was Lena Meyer-Landruth with her Eurovision winning Satellite in June 2010.

Highest new entry comes in at #4 in the face of Justin Bieber. What Do You Mean? is only the third top10 hit and the highest charting song ever for the singer. And he is besides Francesco Yates (#3) the second Canadian inside the Top 10–a feat last seen in May 2012 when Carly Rae Jepsen and Simple Plan had simoultaneous hits.

In its 17th chart week Photograph by Ed Sheeran reaches a new peak at #5 and gives the singer his second biggest chart entry to date.

New inside the top 10 El Perdón by Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias is. It is the the eighth top 10 entry for Mr. Iglesias and his first since 2010.

Hot Spot 11-15-13

A third week for Klingande and their Jubel at number 1. Last French act occupying the Top spot for at least three weeks was Bob Sinclar and his inofficial WM anthem Love Generation that spent five weeks at the very Top in spring 2006.

King of the week is EMINEM. His latest album The Marshall Mathers LP 2 goes straight to number 1 inside the album list. Current single The Monster featuring Rihanna rises 7–3 giving the rapper his sixth Top 3 hit in Germany. Accompanying Rihanna is a little more succesfull. The Monster already is her 12th Top 3 song. Seven of them she had within the past four years – so she is by now the most succesful artist of the current decade. Not alone that. With 170 weeks inside the Top 10 she now overtakes Madonna's record as the female artist with most Top 10 weeks. Now Rihanna is heading for the record of The Beatles. The fab four stand with 227 weeks at the Top of the All Time List.

Once we're talking 'bout Rihanna one should recognize her latest single What Now climbing up the list also due to it's release in some more remix versions. The first edition of remixes brought her to a mere number 83. With the new release she achieves number 49. Predecessor Right Now (featuring DJ David Guetta stopped at number 43 five months ago.

Back to EMINEM once again and for very short: also single Survival rises and lands at number 20 while Berzerk goes 28–24 again after being Nr.10 back in September. Rap God goes 44–33. – Propelled by the new album also Lose Yourself from 2002 can made it back to the list. It sits pretty this week at number 85 almost exactly 11 years after it appeared first in the survey.

Pitbull Feat. Ke$ha are entering the Top 10 with their single Timber. The song enters the stores as physical release today – so we will see it higher than number 7 in 14 days. By entering the area Pitbull gains his third Top 10 hit in 2013 – he is only the third main artist doing so. KE$HA only manages a third Top 10 hit at all. This weeks she ends a three years long abstinence.

LORDE finally also becomes a Top 10 artist by entering Nr.9 with Royals. Since Kimbra almost two year ago no act from New Zealand was seen that high. The last main artist from New Zealand inside the German Top 10 was Brooke Fraser in June 2011.

British X Factor winner 2012 – James Arthur – gains some more attention this week by releasing his debut album. In his home country he proves to be a superstar by landing at number 2. In Germany the album lands only at number 25. As an effect his two singles rise up the list once more. Impossible climbs back to number 45, follow up single You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You bounces back 77–55.

Damien Rice already is a secret star. His (or his band's) tunes were used in several TV serials or public events. But nobody knew the man and his band so far. Now the label 14th floor released one of his most popular recording 9 crimes again. And finally it can make it into the charts as a single hit landing at number 61.

By releasing a new song every single week Canadian teen star Justin Bieber now became the artist with most charting songs in one year. This week's Bad Day is already the 9th song in 2013 that can appear on the list. The man now overtakes such big names like Pitbull, Flo Rida and Helene Fischer who stuck with "only" eight different songs. To get some better impressions of what this feat means: David Guetta had 14 charting tracks in 2012 and even 16 in 2011. So there is some more to do for becoming a real super star.

Also Avril Lavigne offered a new album. According to critics and sales figures the collection of songs is much less than retro. Number 15 means this is the worst performing album ever for the lady. Also re-entering single Let Me Go (alongside with husband Chad Kroeger) only can reach number 70. Never a charting single stopped lower.

Casting show effects
As always one can find some tracks in the list that benefit from the performance of hopeful aspirants. Mostly the songs disappear after a single week – so one could ignore them very well. But very often well known tunes appear on stage - so we could call them classics also. Recognizing them might tell some stories 'bout the current cultural mood in Germany.

This week we can watch Korean YIRUMA returning to the list with his composition of River Flows In You. It was written and recorded in 2001 but had a long long wait to become famous. First wider recognition came with the use of the melody within a Twilight fan video. Some months later DJ Jasper Forks recorded an own version. Than also the original by YIRUMA had a chance to chart as a single track too. Now it belongs to one of the most loved pieces for all who study classic instruments like piano. The track lands this week according to a performance on Das Supertalent by young piano player Thomas Krüger. I guess we will watch the song again when the show airs its final.

Song number 2 is Under by Alex Hepburn. The song was performed on The Voice Of Germany on October 31st by Yvonne Rüller. In March this year it had a 14 weeks long chart career peaking at number 34. Now it re-enters at number 79.

Songs To Watch
Might be an upcoming hit: Strong by the London Grammar. The band released its album digitally in October. A full physical release is available right now. In between the single can gain some attention and enters the charts at number 83.

Full three weeks before its release on CD Unconditionally by Katy Perry starts its chart life at number 86.

Hot Spot 11-01-13

And again Germany does have a new Number 1 hit this week. It is Sweden’s new super DJ/producer AVICII who can set a second track at number 1 this current year. Hey Brother is the track in question – still a week before its release on single CD.

Having two No.1 singles is a feat not that usual in Germany – in 2013 we have this situation already for the second time. In June there was Pharrell Williams credited as an artist for two consecutive Nr.1 hits: First he entered the top alongside Daft Punk on Get Lucky. A fortnight later he was also credited on Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.

Two No.1 hits as a main artist – that's a feat we've last seen in 2009 when Lady Gaga had her hiatus with Poker Face collecting 13 weeks at the Top followed by Paparazzi 15 weeks later.

Watching two artists topping the list twice in a year is a feat much harder to find. In 2008 Katy Perry managed a double with I Kissed A Girl in September and Hot N Cold in December and Timbaland topped the list with Apologize (presenting OneRepublic) and was the man behind 4 Minutes performed and credited to Madonna & Justin (Timberlake). In 2003 we had two main acts having two No.1 hits: first superstar Alexander shot to the Top with Take Me Tonight and Free Like The Wind and The Black Eyed Peas launched Where Is The Love? and Shut Up becoming No.1 hits.

More statistics? AVICII only is the sixth act in this current decade with two No.1 hits. - Three weeks in a row with a completely new track at the Top was last seen in October 2009 when RAMMSTEIN (Pussy) was dethroned by David Guetta Feat. Akon (Sexy Bitch) who were dethroned by Lady Gaga (Paparazzi) who left the Top spot for Robbie Williams (Bodies) after a single week.

Finally I can tell you that 2013 is the second consecutive year that two Swedish productions occupy the Top – meaning Swedish music is popular in Germany than never before. Even between 1991 and 1995 when six different Swedish productions went to Number 1 the time span between that hits where much longer than right now. So it is no surprise realizing the fact that according to number 1 hits only music coming from the USA is more successful in Germany right now.

Talking bout AVICII also leads to a note concerning the voice of Wake Me Up!. Aloe Blacc released an own take on the tune that now enters at number 71. Probably that version won't go number 1 – at least it gives the singer his third official chart entry.

There are some other stories too: The most successful German act in this very moment is the duo Milky Chance. After releasing their album Sadnecessary on CD the track Stolen Dance can climb three more places to number 4 becoming the highest ranking German production since three months. The track itself is available as a digital download only.

After the album Unholy Ground by Sunrise Ave is released and gets number 3 in the album list the single Lifesaver also becomes a Top 10 hit by bouncing 22–9 this week. It is the highest position for the band since it went No.3 two and a half years ago with Hollywood Hills. In reminiscence of that big success the song re-enters at number 36 which marks the highest position for it since two years. The initial success for the band Fairytale Gone Bad from 2006 also can re-enter. It lands at number 46 in its 71st chart week which is actually number 19 of most charted acts.

Justin Bieber surely wants to become the most charting act in 2013. Since three weeks he has started releasing every Friday a new song. The tracks also chart in Germany – of course the target group is a very narrow one, so the tracks leave the list very fast. This week the teenie star manages a double entry. His own new song Hold Tight starts at number 56, the collaboration with TYGA Wait For A Minute shows up at number 63. So far Justin Bieber set up seven different tracks in 2013. Only Flo Rida, Pitbull and - yes - Helene Fischer so far brought more into the list. His summary for the whole decade is 17 – making him the fifth busiest act so far.

Upcoming hits:
New York, Rio, Rosenheim - the title track of the album by Sportfreunde Stiller starts to climb up the charts after the band's tour started a few days ago. This week the song not scheduled for a proper single release stops at number 62.

Scheduled for full release on 2nd November Mark Forster's new single Zu dir (Weit weg) enters the list at number 64.

Probably not really a big future hit Dark Horse by Katy Perry Feat. Juicy J enters at number 81 picked as a single track from freshly released album Prism. In the USA the track was the first promotional track offered in September. In Germany one had to wait till now.

Casting show effects
The current season of The Voice Of Germany just started a few weeks ago. Again Hoss Power and Boss Burns of The BossHoss are part of the jury. In time the band released a new album (Flames Of Flames) and a single (Do It). Latter one sneaks around number 35 for some weeks meanwhile the band's signature song Don't Gimme That returns into the list at number 76.

Max Herre does similar. His biggest hit Wolke 7 returns at number 88.

Also Das Supertalent bans people in front of their TV's. The fourth show aired on 20th October supports songs of Helene Fischer (#74) and Philipp Poisel (#83 + #97).

Hot Spot 05-10-13

Germany has a new number 1. Safe And Sound rises 7–1 and makes Capital Cities the second new act this current year that reach the Top with the first single. Of course Capital Cities have some support by a TV commercial campaign of mobile company vodafone. The release of the single is scheduled for May 17th–so we should be aware having the song for some further weeks ranking as the best selling one.

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell is on the way to become a massive hit. So far not listed at the main download portals the track jumps 56–27 in its 3rd chart week. Switzerland already reports an impressive number 5–so there are much more success to come in Germany too.

The Voice Kids is the casting show that this week supports most some hits. First of all Lights originally recorded by Ellie Goulding gets some new power after the song was one of the battles on April 26th. Second song profiting from the performances is Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth Feat. Emeli Sande. It re-enters at number 42.
Also Miriam Bryant re-enters with Finders Keepers. Her song had a single chart appearance at the tail end last year. Now it shots to number 46 reaching a not expected peak.
Other winner is Bruno Mars and his Locked Out Of Heaven.
And really surprising: some tracks rise allthough they were performed a week before. Aitziber’sperformance of In Love With The World generates some new demand and propells the song back to the list at number 56, Judith’s song from a week before Call Me Maybe makes a jump 96–64 and I Won’t Let You Go by James Morrison also rises 76–65.

DSDS only can help Angel by Sarah McLachlan to number 60 after Lisa Wohlgemuth performed the song.

Very slowly the next Justin Bieber single catches fire. An official release date so for not was reported but All Around The World rises on album downloads alone up to number 53 this current week.

Also slowly the single from Thirty Seconds To Mars Up In The Air rises again. It now profits from the freshly released video clip.

A slow burner also is Pompeii by Bastille. Released in February the track now rises up the list reaching number 71 this week.

After his album The Day You Live Forever was released Ryan Sheridan also gains a single hit. Jigsaw enters at number 72 as digital album cut.

A statistical fact at last: This current week ist the one which gives will.i.am a 45th appearance in the list in 2013 alone. So now he matches the result of German rapper CRO so far. Hard on the heels of both follows Emeli Sandé who falls only one appearance short. As we right now count the 19th chart week of 2013 it means all of the three acts had at least two tracks inside the list in every single week of the year.

Hot Spot 04-26-13

A slight change at the German top. After Just Give Me A Reason is out on CD the track climbs the last little step reaching number 1 for the first time. It replaces Let Her Go after five weeks which slides to number 2. Just Give Me A Reason is the third number 1 hit for P!NK. It follows the Lady Marmalade anthem from 2001 and the single So What that throned at the top for three weeks in 2008. Statistical trivia at the side: P!NK already is the second artist achieving a third number 1 hit in 2013. Back in January it was Britney Spears doing so by throwing Scream & Shout onto the top. As you remember also that song was a duet.

Current duetting partner Nate Ruess stands for the very first time in his career at number 1.

There are three new entries inside the Top 10:

will.i.am Ft. Justin Bieber rise 4 places into the Top 10 with #ThatPower. Next week also physical CD release will have an effect on the list. So be prepared watching the track rising some places higher. So far will.i.am launches his third Top 10 hit in a row and Mr. Justin Bieber reaches a new peak position at all at number 7.

Also the Imagine Dragons still climb higher and higher. Radioactive holds at number 9 in its 11th chart week. And at number 10 the Vodafon song Save And Sound by Capital Cities stops.

This all gives us nine US productions inside the German Top 10. Oops–something seems completely strange right now in German music business.

Highest German production still is Bilder im Kopf by Sido which slides three places to number 17. Last time the best sold German production ranked as low was in May two years ago, when slowly starting Still by Jupiter Jones reached only number 19.

weekly DSDS effects
Show number five was aired on April 13th. One of the winners is the song performed by Lisa Wohlgemuth: Lights originally recorded by Ellie Goulding returns to Top 20 status after the show. Also I Need Your Love profits of the show and enters the Top 20 at number 20.

DJane HouseKat should thank the show as well. Her second chart hit All The Time just crept at number 52 in February. After it was performed on DSDS by Tim David Weller & Susan Albers it rebounds back to list and lands at a new peak: number 44.

GNTM soundtrack
Finally Spectrum (Say My Name) by Florence + the Machine catches fire. After it was used on Germany’s Next Top Model and released on the compilation of the show as well it motors up the list as a single track too. This current week it lands at a new peak at number 32.

In Contrast Sam And The Womp! are completely new to the German list. Their track Bom Bom was a number 1 hit in Britain past September. Here the proper release of the single is scheduled for May 3rd–two weeks before it can enter the charts as a download track. Watching the forums about the show one should recognize that this track is one of the most wanted of the show at all. Similarities to Jungle Drum–which made Emiliana Torrini a star four years ago–ain’t probably a coincidence.

Further down the list Lindsey Stirling re-enters with Crystallize and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs once again sneak in with Heads Will Roll–a four years old track that became a hit thanks to the model casting on TV.

And also The voice Kids generates demand for some songs again. This time Va Va Voom by Nicki Minaj is the lucky one that re-enters the highest at number 41. Juryman Tim Bendzko also profits from the presence on TV. His Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären re-enters the list and ends a seven months long abstinence from the charts.

Almost at the end of the list also Katy Perry dips in for a single week after her Firework was performed by a young talent on the show.

New albums
Michael Bublé celebrates his new album To Be Loved at number 2 in the album list–the single It’s A Beautiful Day also takes a big jump from 90 to 28. It is the highest place a song of Michael Bublé ever reached.

The title track of Prinz Pi’s album Kompass ohne Norden reaches the list while the full album shots to number 1.

Scheduled for a release in June Blurred Lines enters the list already now. It gives Robin Thicke a second chart entry after 10 years.

18-12: More Casting Show Impact

Week number two at the Top for Alex Clare. His Too Close still attracts most people in Germany. In Switzerland the current number 1 song is Drive By by US American train that also in Germany makes a seven place leap to number 3. One probably know the reason: the song was performed on the semi final of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS) that was aired on 21st April. Daniele Negroni had chosen the song and caused the strong new interest in it. Drive By doubles the feat that She Doesn’t Mind achieved last week. For the band train it is now the most successful single eclipsing the number 7 peak of Hey, Soul Sister in 2010.

Right at number 6 we find the next DSDS related gainer. It is Ma Chérie which was performed at the semi final by final winner Luca Hänni. His choice for a hit coming from his native country Switzerland gives DJ Antoine a second Top 10 hit in Germany. Reaching that peak in its 29th chart week makes the track the second slowest hit in 2012. In Switzerland where Ma Chérie reaches number 2 after the TV presence it took the track full 58 weeks to reach that peak. – Of course I don’t have to speak about accompanying Beat Shakers from Serbia. It is the highest rank a Serbian act ever could achieve in Germany (and Switzerland).

If we watch th songs performed at the show I have to mention The Man Who Can’t Be Moved by Irish The Script which is back in the list after the DSDS performance too. However the song only enters at number 72.

Probably it is worth noting that the third highest new entry was supported by DSDS also. It is Live My Life by Far East Movement ft. Justin Bieber that reaches number 8 in its first weeks and gives both acts their first ever Top 10 appearance in Germany. The new Justin Bieber track also lifts the old one 61–39 which is a new peak also.

The best new single start of the week comes from Germany. It is DJane HouseKat accompanied with rapper Rameez who offer a new version on the disco classic Let’s All Chant. The original by The Michael Zager Band climbed to number 14 in 1978. Although it wasn’t the huge hit it became a classic covered several times in all decades. Most popular so far the version of DJ Valium recorded in 2002 which also reached the German charts.

The new version of Let’s All Chant turns the speed a little down but adds common rap parts and floor signals. Produced by Groove Coverage mastermind Axel Konrad it is not surprising seeing the single flying to number 4 in it’s first week. The track was released first back in January but it became popular not before it was used as a commercial background for TV channel PRO7. The big jump to number 4 makes the song the second most successful for the producer after his first success with Groove Coverage in 2002.

Last story of the heavily turned over Top 10. Seeing Taio Cruz Feat Pitbull storming to number 5 with their song There She Goes the US/Cuban rapper launches his eigtht chart hit in 2012 so far. He now overtook French DJ David Guetta who “only” collected seven different tracks invading the lists this recent year. In long time terms Pitbull stays still behind David Guetta. The French man does have 19 different charting tracks under his belt this decade so far (plus one where he appeared as non-mentioned producer). Pitbull brought 15 tracks in the list over the last two and a half year. – Collaborating partner Taio Cruz also celebrates a feat worth mentioning. There She Goes is the third song reaching the Top 10 this year. So the British star had three consecutive years three different songs ranking inside the Top 10.

At the lower end of the charts some further German productions start their commercial life:
Rock band Donots is back with a new album. Leading single Come Away With Me is the ninth song charting in Germany. Landing at number 67 in its first week is something quite common for the band. It only twice in its whole career rose to number 33.

The first warm days passed by and immediately the first Mallorca party hits appear. Markus Becker is the one who starts the new season. His new song Abi Abi Abitur terrifies me a lot. It clearly states that in between carnival and Mallorca season there is a time space and an event left for cheap boozing. It is the end of school, the time of examinations and getting the A level (which is what Abitur means). In Germany high school graduates very often on their last day of school before the examinations spend a day at the streets wearing stupid things like pampers or pyjamas and getting drunk at noon latest. The soundtrack for that kind of celebration is of course nothing else than Schlager stuff without any deeper sense. Abi Abi Abitur fits that feeling perfectly.

German Bundesliga ended this weekend with the old and new champion Borussia Dortmund. The team was in lead position for a long time but the fans of runner’s up Bayern München really hoped for a wonder. Probably that’s the reason the club anthem Stern des Südens (Star Of The South) re-enters in the list. The song appeared in the charts for the first timemore than 14 years ago. It peaked at number 25 in May 2010. As it is a very seasonal hit only charting for a few weeks at the end of the soccer season it collected so far 16 chart weeks.

And finally we have a chart record broken this week. Since February 2009 the song collected most weeks inside the charts was Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) by Austrian duo DJ Ötzi & Nik P.. This week they are dethroned to number 2 by another duo–German DJs Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner. Their track Sky And Sand counts its 108th week inside the list. Of course the two DJs profits from the removal of the clearing policy valid until March 2010. Sky And Sand is the first track that never was removed from the list cause of that policy. Meaning Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) would be far and away the most longest sold single still. In its whole chart career the song was at least three times removed from the list for three months … I would call that bad luck.
