July 1st 16: French Artists Invading the Top 3

This Girl by KUnGS vs. Cookin' On 3 Bruners spends a third week at the top of the German charts. Followed by another French act: IMANY. Who also got support by a second act. Don't Be So Shy became popular especially as the remix version by Russian DJ duo Filatov & Karas. By landing at #2 these two are the most successful Russian act since 2003. Back than t.A.T.u. had their #1 hit All THe Things She Said.

As David Guetta sits pretty at #3 with his UEFA EM hit This One's For You the whole top3 comes from French artists–a historical situation never seen before in German chart history.

It is again a more calm week on the charts. Biggest gainers are:
Ride by twentyøne piløts jumping 28 places to #34 in its third chart week
Kill Em With Kindness by Selena Gomez taking also 28 places to #61 in its second week
Wherever I Go by OneRepublic jumping 21 places to #52
Perfect Stranger by jonas Blue feat. JP. Cooper going 97–77

Highest new entry is Lieblingslied by German youtube stars Die Lochis. It is their seventh chart hit but the biggest demand seems to be history as their biggest hit peaking past summer at #29 in its first week.

After 68 consecutive weeks on charts Lean On by Major Lazer X DJ Snake Feat. Mø leaves the list. Longest running track now is Sugar by Robin Schulz feat. Francesco Yates spending at #91 an 50th week inside the list.

Feb 5th 16: Zayn Arrives - Rihanna Fails - Carnival & SSIO Invades

2016 counts six chart issues–three of them Stimme by EFF were the most sold single. Meaning this is the best performing #1 of the current year so far.
More spectacular it is this the 40th consecutive week with a European at the top of the list. That is a feat not seen since 25 years.
A further statistical story from the top is the static Top 4 which is the first time since November past year.

At #5 the highest new entry comes in. It is former OneDirection member Zayn Malik with his first solo single. Pillowtalk directly shoots into the top 5–a feat the boy group never managed to do. Indeed their only #10 entry with Drag Me Down came after the split with ZAYN.

New inside the top 10 also is Jonas Blue Feat. Dakota and their take on Fast Car. The remake lands at #7 in its third chart week. One week more inside the list and now landing inside the top 10 Alan Walker lands his Faded at #8.
These new arrivals kick out long selling German productions like Robin Schulz and Glasperlenspiel which brings a situation last seen in early March past year with only one German production inside the top 10. Most time of 2015 we had four, five or even six and seven German productions there.

One of the stories of the week is a story about a fail. Rihanna's new album Anti clearly misses the taste of the masses. #7 in the UK and #12 in Germany in its first week is far and away from what could be expected. Single Work (featuring Drake) also clearly misses the top with stopping at #23. Is that the result of her very ambitious campaign for the album?

Youtube-Star Lamiya launched her first single Glow. It starts chart life at #26.

Carnival season launches its hits since a few weeks. The week before the ultimate party the amount increases as there are:
Warum hast du nicht nein gesagt by Roland Kaiser & Maite Kelly re-enterin #56
Jeck Yeah! by BRINGS new at #59
Leev Marie by Paveier new at #75–after an eight years long abstinence the band is back with a second chart entry
Kölsche Jungs by BRINGS re-entering #80
Polka, Polka, Polka by BRINGS re-entering #95

Leader of the album list is SSIO with 0,9. He also is the first living artist in 2016 who can launch simultaneous new entries on the song survey. Leading the bunch of six is Ich fibicke jeden at #61.

Jan 29th 16: New Songs Arriving

No change at the very top of the German single's list. It is EFF that holds firm with Stimme for a second week. Also Shawn Mendes has his Stitches at #2 for a second week.
At #3 the second Canadian star comes in. Justin Bieber sees his Love Yourself rise into the top3 in its 11th chart week. Nine of them the song already spent inside the Top10.
Also #6 reaches a new peak after a while. It is Danish Lukas Graham with 7 Years that had 14 weeks to go there.

Worth mentioning Glasperlenspiel spends with Geiles Leben a 20th week inside the top10–exactly at #10. It is this the first song since Helene Fischer's Atemlos durch die Nacht that can manage doing so.

New sounds arrive from #12 on. Right there British Dua Lipa stops with her first hit Be The One. It is the sixth chart week for the song and the very first time inside the top20.
#13 goes to G-Eazy x Bebe Rexha and their Me Myself & I that rises four places. And a more rock oriented song lands at #14. The X Ambassadors bring the sound back to public attention with Renegade.
The biggest gainer is Fast Car by jonas Blue Featuring Dakota. The cover of the Tracy Chapman song jumps 25 places to #16 in its second chart week.
Very close in sound–a bit more club oriented–Faded by Alan Walker is which stops its rise a place behind. Alan Walker now is the best performing Norwegian on the list and might become the suceeder of KYGO this year.
And finally Elle King completes the Top 20 with her Ex's & Oh's. That's the new sound so far which partly will mix up next week's top 10 for sure. Be prepared.

The #1 spot for sure is reserved for the highest new entry this week. At #31 Rihanna Feat. Drake land. Work is available since Wednesday online which is enough to boost the song to the upper half. On Thursday her album Anti followed as streaming offer. Well–February will start with a beat certainly.

In the shadow of Rihanna also SIA releases her new album This Is Acting. Single Unstoppable sneaks in the song list at #62.

A gainer of 49 places is Stressed Out by the Twentyøne Piløts. The song lands at #37.
At #50 the song of the current Desigual campaign jumps. It is Hundred Miles by Barcelona based Yall Feat. Gabriela Richardson.
Further songs worth watching on the way up are:
Die immer lacht Stereoact feat. Kerstin Ott going 45–23
Try Me Jason Derulo Feat. Jennifer Lopez & Matoma 49–39
Roses Chainsmokers Ft. Rozes 68–56
Jolene The BossHoss Feat. The Common Linnets 73–60
Wasn't Expecting That (Zwette Remix) Jamie Lawson 78–65
Hands To Myself Selena Gomez 93–71

New entry at #97 makes evident that casting shows might generate a career. Three years ago Lisa Larissa Strahl won the Dein Song contest which made her a recognized talent. In summer right after the casting she got the role of Bibi Blocksberg on a new (so far) trilogy. The title song of the third sequel Mädchen gegen Jungs enters the list this current week.
On her side also another teen star acts and sings. It is Phil Laude better known as a third of former youtube-band Y-Titty.

August 28th 15: Continuous Summer Laziness

It is still Robin Schulz who grabs the singles chart crown. Sugar feat. Francesco Yates holds firm for a third week at the top spot. Seems this one is the summer hit 2015 although it has some way to go for beating the early summer smash of Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) that had an eight weeks #1 run.

A week before the release of its new album Beauty Behind The Madness Canadian The Weeknd reaches a new career peak inside the singles list by getting his Can't Feel My Face stopping at #16. With an eight places leap the singer gets his second top 20 hit. The first one Earned It stopped at position 17 earlier this year.

Youtube selfmade singer Joel Brandestein serves with Grenzenlos the highest new entry landing at #20. It is the first proper CD single release of the singer who started his career with cover versions of popular songs published at his channel. Last December he first gained chart success with Diese Liebe. The new song falls only two places short from the result nine months back, which prooves the ability of the net community to launch new stars besides of comedian acts like Y-Titty, ApeCrime or Die Lochis.

It is that arrival which makes German productions having a new presence inside the Top 20. 11 out of 20 coming from Germany, 8 of them are in German.

On #55 Roland Kaiser & Maite Kelly re-enter with their Warum hast du nicht nein gesagt. Since late January this year the song appears again and again for some single weeks on the list. This time it is the fourth entry caused by a bigger presence of Roland Kaiser over the past weeks. Beginning of August he staged four times(!) in Dresden at the Kaisermania concerts yearly celebrated there. More than 50.000 visitors live and 500.000 on TV followed the shows, Ten days ago his appearance on the criminal movie Summ Summ Summ was aired again, and of course the summer discofox fever is on its height right now – so Warum hast du nicht nein gesagt lands at its highest peak so far giving Roland Kaiser his biggest chart entry since 1988.

As we are on the field of schlager: Helene Fischer right now eclipses the record of UNHEILIG's Geboren um zu leben which was so far the single with the longest consecutive chart run of this current decade. Now Atemlos durch die Nacht joins it with 94 consecutive weeks. The song only has three weeks to go for becoming the longest consecutive running hit of all times as Heavy Cross by gossip holds this title since four years.

27th of Feb 15: Best British Female Since Adele

It is the second week at number 1 for Ellie Goulding and her Love Me Like You Do.
The last British female having a two weeks run at the Top was Adele with her breakthrough Rolling In The Deep in February 2011.

ApeCrime gets its biggest hit to date by charting with Alles was ich hab at number 12. It is the fourth chart hit of the trio.
Cologne BRINGS also celebrate a career peak by getting their Polka Polka Polka up to number 19. It is their 15th chart single in a 24 years long chart presence. Since 2004 the band enters the charts yearly in carneval season.

After almost 20 years of abstinence from the single's list Annie Lennox returns with her contribution to the Fifty Shades Of Grey score. It is a fascinating take on the classic I Put A Spell On You first recorded in 1956 by Screamin' Jay Hawkins.
The song already charted three times in Germany. The best performing version is the one by Bryan Ferry peaking at number 53 in 1993.

With the release of his new no.1 album CCN III German Bushido also gets 12 tracks in the list. The highest comes in at no 43. 12 tracks in one single week – that's impressive of course but still far away from the result of Kollegah who launched 18 tracks in one week in May 2014. Also in other statistics Bushido fails of becoming a record setter. With 34 chart entries within this current decade he still ranges behind David Guetta who already collected 36 entries. The all time survey sees the rapper as the best German act with 56 different chart entries. This result is no.3 behind Madonna (61 entries) and Peter Alexander (81 entries).
Well–one survey sees Bushido taking the crown. He is now the artist with most consecutive chart entries missing the top 10. Since 2010 there were 30 tracks appearing in the list but failing of becoming real hits.

Bushido is one of the reasons why there are 38 German productions inside the list–31 of them are in German.

Statistical stuff
22 new entries – best result for 2015 so far and best figure since May 23rd 2014
no new entry – happened last also May 23rd 2014

26th of Dec. 2014: Last chart list of the year

Dangerous holds firm at the Top for a fourth week (a second in a row) and finally makes David Guetta feat. Sam Martin the act with most number 1 weeks in 2014. Having two proper number 1 singles the duo is far and away the best performing number 1 act. But in 2014 there were some other acts that come close to this feat. First of all newcomer Robin Schulz has to be counted as the closest combatant by serving as one main act on Prayer in C and remixing Waves by Mr Probz which later was officially credited to him also.

Significant moves:
Hozier lands at number 2 with Take Me To Church after he performed the song on the final show of The Voice of Germany together with Charley Ann Schmutzler on 19th December 2014. The later winner of the show herself can climb 26 places to number 3 with Blue Heart. Winner 2013 Andreas Kümmert was able to reach number 2 at the back end of 2013.
Also Ed Sheeran profits from his performance on the show. Thinking Out Loud goes 12–6 and now is his third Top10 hit in 2014. So Ed Sheeran now eclipses the result of Swedish AVICII who so far was the artist with most different songs inside the German Top 10.

Highest new entry comes from Italian Frei.Wild. Wir brechen Eure Seelen (weil Ihr gerne Kriege führt) is the first official single where the band dissociates from neo nazi movement. The song lands at number 8.

On number 18 the first serious German singer-songwriter started on the internet can launch his first hit. Joel Brandenstein is very different to comedian projects like Die Lochis, Y-Titty or Apecrime. His Diese Liebe serves as his first commercial release and brings him a straight Top20 hit.

Additionally Nico Suave Feat. Xavier Naidoo enter the list with Danke at number 20. So the three highest new entries are in German which sets the number of songs in German inside the Top20 at seven–a feat not seen since April 2012. The number of German productions inside the Top20 is 8–the best result for whole 2014 and doubling the result of the last charts issue of 2013.

At number 34 a classic tune gets a new peak. Hallelujah originally written and performed by Canadian Leonard Cohen in the 80s became famous the past 20 years but first charted in December 2012 in the version of Jeff Buckley. It got its peak a few weeks later at number 38. On December 16th Xavier Naidoo performed the song on Sing meinen Song - Das Weihnachtskonzert. Now his version rises 61 places which is the best move of the week and eclipses the old peak.

And another benchmark is set in this last issue of the year 2014. German schlager singer HEINO is back with a collection of hard rock versions of his former hits. It misses the Top10 of the album list by entering at number 11. Anyway the lead song Schwarz blüht der Enzian a re-recording of his biggest hit released in 1972 can enter the singles list at number 84. Covering a span of over 42 years it is the eldest composition that appears in 2014 inside the list. So far it was We Are The Champions by Queen that made it into the charts again in late July after the German team won the FIFA world championship. The first appearance of that song dates back to 1977.
Back to Heino again: Appearing inside the current list his chart career now spans an impressive 47 years. Of course in 2014 he was the artist with the longest history beating the 44 years that Peter Maffay collects right now. 47 years–that's also the 7th longest chart career of all times. Heino now has only six more years to go to beat the record set by Paul Kuhn in August 2008. But well–a look into the future tells you: Next week we will embrace the back catalogue of Udo Jürgens for sure which pushes the record of the longest chart career even further to 57 years.

24th of January 2014: Lazy Week

It is still holidays time in Germany–according to the music business going on. Only five new singles and six re-entries find the way to the list. It is so far the least turnover of the list of the whole month. So the top end looks calm also: The Top 5 is the same as we had last week.

Still Germany is Happy with Pharrell Williams occupying the top position of the singles’ charts. So the artists had all his Nr.1 tracks standing there for at least two weeks, which makes him the most enduring Nr.1 artist in this millenium right behind queen Rihanna.

One week before its release as a full CD single and two weeks before the album release Kids (2 Finger an Kopf) by MARTERIA shows some power. The song first appearing inside the charts one months ago at number 7 returns into the Top 10 at number 9 this week.

In its sixth chart week also the new single from BASTILLE Of The Night catches finally fire. The mashup cover version rises 26–13 giving the band a third Top 20 hit in a row. The official release of the CD single is scheduled for February 4th.

Further on the way up Revolverheld's Ich lass für dich das Licht an stops at number 14 this week. The song looks like it will at least match the so far most successful single of the band Helden 2008 which peaked at number 2 about six years ago.

One of the most influencing hit maker still is youtube. And a still increasing group of artists is the one of comedy couples or trios which also recording songs the so called Generation Youtube. After their first appearance back in September ApeCrime storms the list as the highest new entry this current week with Swing dein Ding. The song lands at number 17 – so far most of that kind of songs disappeared after two weeks latest. Only Y-Titty managed having longer standing hits. The mainstream breakthrough for that generation still did not happen.

By charting at number 20 in its first week Shakira gets her first Top 20 hit since four years with Can't Remember To Forget You. Accompanying Rihanna of course is a star of a very different kind. Her last Top 10 hit still sits pretty at number 11 in the face of The Monster. The new single is her 33rd chart entry in 10 years.

Talking 'bout sleepy music business at the beginning of this post also means: There are well known tracks and artists invading the charts. One of the more significant is the return of 90s star Dr. Alban. A remix of his Europe-wide number 1 hit It's My Life is back in a 2014 remix by The Bodybangers at number 32. 16 years after the singing dentist had its last chart appearance in Germany he is back to the Top 40.

And another band celebrates its chart comeback. First time seen here in 2005 medieval project Schandmaul launches a second chart hit with Euch zum Geleit at number 85. It's a funeral song which brings the band back to mainstream commercial live.
