May 6th 16: Drake's first No.1

No surprise at the very top as DRAKE goes number 1 with One Dance. The single tops the list in its fourth chart week which makes it the fastest number 1 hit in 2016 so far.
It is Drake's first top hit in Germany (as well as in some other countries too) and the first Canadian artist topping the list here as a lead artist since Nelly Furtado did so in late 2006 with her All Good Things (Come To An End). Drake took more than five years to get here–more than SIA but very much faster than Sean Paul.
To repeat the fact: It is the first time in German chart history that a Nigerian artist who still lives on the African continent reaches the top in Germany.


The other story of the week is the arrival of the new collaboration between Calvin Harris & Rihanna. This Is What You Came For starts right at #6 giving the DJ his sixth top 10 hit and lifting the singer from Barbados further up to the heights of pop olymp. With 15 top 10 hits alone in this current decade Rihanna already is the most successful artist of the past six years. All in all she has 24 top 10 entries under her belt which is more than Scooter but one short of Depeche Mode. Measuring only female solo artists she ranks at #3 of the all time list, two entries short of Madonna but still far away from Caterina Valente who had 36 top 10 singles in her career.

A further song invading the top 10 comes in the face of French-Australian collaboration KUnGS vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners. This Girl goes 17 places up in its third chart week and brings house back to the upper end of the German list.

On the way up also rapper Desiigner is. His oldschool rap Panda goes 26–17 in its fifth chart week. Also British Julian Perretta enters the top 20. His way up slowly calms down but he still git support by a lot of house remixes around.
Galantis sets his first Top50 hit. No Money jumps 45 places to #31 in its second chart week.
Gnash feat. Olivia O'Brien land at #37 with i hate u i love u. It is the duo's second chart week.

On the album's list Udo Lindenberg rules with his new offering Stärker als die Zeit. The demand also brings Durch die schweren Zeiten back to the upper half of the song's list. It stops at #36. The album's title track lands at #90 on single downloads alone.

The third season of Sing meinen Song is aired since four weeks. It misses so far the big success we are used to from the years before. Well–the episode focussing on Samy Deluxe brings at least two entries in the list. First of all it is Samy Deluxe's own single Haus am Mehr that lands at #62–a comeback after an almost five years chart pause. On #99 Xavier Naidoo's take on Weck mich auf comes in. The original recording peaked at #4 in 2001. The cover is Xavier Naidoo's 42nd chart entry as a solo artist–as much as Udo Jürgens achieved in his whole career.

Dutch Mallorca Sound

What a week: 13 new entries! Only once this year we had more. It was the list of March 4th that welcomed 14 new tracks. – Well, two years ago it was quite usual having 20 or more new tracks in one single week. Times change fast.

13 new tracks doesn’t mean a lot of action. The Top 10 (and even the Top 20) looks almost static: Highest mover as mentioned before is Tim Bendzko who rises 6–3 with Nur noch kurz die Welt retten. Right behind him and a week after its full release Lady Gaga’s The Edge Of Glory slowly fades down. After its raise to number 3 last week it now slides down one place to number 4. Anyway it is the 7th song of Lady Gaga that at least peaked inside the Top 3. The big gainer of last week Lucenzo feat Don Omar and their Danza Kuduro is nailed at number 7. The story behind the track shows that it isn’t „real“ Kuduro at all …
Rising back to the peak she gained almost two month ago Brooke Fraser founds a lot of fans. After her album Flags peaked at number 6 two weeks ago the single Something In The Water benefits from the interest and rose back 13–9–8.

Highest gainer this week is the swiss-russian-american collaboration between DJ Antoine vs Timati feat. Kalenna. The remix of the english version of Welcome To St. Tropez jumps 20–12 and makes Timati the firstRussian artist hitting the Top 20 sinc t.A.T.u. did so in 2003 and 2005. DJ Antoine is the best ranking Swiss act in Germany since the heydays of Stefanie Heinzmann in 2008. So far it took the track 17 weeks for getting finally that high – it started somewhen inApril at a low number 79. Assuming the track will rise further the next week one can say already now: that’s what we call a chart career full of tension.

Also on the rise – although much slower – Katy Perry with Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) is. She moved so far 22–21–18–17. Will she finally reach the Top 10?


All the tracks new in the list gather lower than position 30. Nine of them are German productions. What sounds exciting is indeed not that powerful. The most successful German tracks are still the same:

3. Frida Gold Wovon sollen wir träumen
All three inside the Top 20 and all three using the German language – that’s quite a feat.

Most successfull German track new on CD is Schatzi, schenk mir ein Foto (Honey, Give Me A Fotograph) which is newly released in a summer version including new Mallorca party mixes. The discofox techno sound still is very very popular in Germany and especially in Germans holiday destinations like Mallorca. So the new mixes caused a new interest – the party song now reaches a new peak at number 40 almost axactly 6 months after the song first appeared in the charts.



With the new edition the credits were changed by the company. The first release from the early 2011 was credited to Mickie Krause feat. Ko&Ko as the brothers from the Netherlands who wrote the song in original were participating in the recording as well. The new release only shows Mickie Krause at the cover although the version together with Gebroeders Ko is on the CD as well. The brothers probably don’t mind cause they are right now a featured act on Markus Becker’s new single. The Mallorca singer recorded their Heli-Heli Helikopter and took both into the studio as well. The result is now in shops and starts in the charts at number 52.



And there is a third Mallorca discofox party song originally released in Dutch entering the German charts. It is Dos cervezas por favor by Belgian (Flamish) actor Tom Waes which is now translated into German by Ina Colada. Do I have to say something more about that …? – Well, it enters at number 59 and gives Miss Colada a second chart hit.

And another stupid Mallorca hit: Vater Abraham (…hat 7 Söhne) (Father Abraham has 7 sons) by Tim Toupet also released as CD on 15th of July (I guess it’s quite unique that all these tracks appear in one week – probably the labels have some commitments). It starts at posiiton 76.




The Other New German Releases (and there are a lot!)

The Beatsteaks also have a new single. Automatic is not that significant as predecessor Cheap Moments was, but it sells much better – probably cause its kind of the title track of their album Boombox. Automatic starts at number 43. It is nothing more than the third track of the Beatsteaks reaching the upper half of the charts.



Jennifer Rostock had their first hit in 2008 after taking part at Stefan Raab’s Bundesvision Song Contest. Since than they appear continouosly with new material – they are one of the few German electropunk bands with a major label contract. Now their third album Mit Haut und Haar (Neck And Crop) is released – two weeks before the single Keiner nimmt mir Mein Mikrofon (Nobody Can Take Away My Microphone – sometimes shortened to Mein Mikrofon) is out. It is a powerful song about the strong will not to be silent and live own dreams. The band continues in their own style – only the refrain seems a little more mass compatible than earlier recordings. In September the band again will take part at Bundesvision Song Contest. Than a new single will be available.



New Single coming from Samy Deluxe is PoesieAlbum (Autograph Album) – it is the lead single of recent album Schwarz Weiss (Black White). Samy Deluxe is one of the serious German rap stars concerning more about society and life than their colleagues from AGGRO Berlin or ersguterjunge. Listening to the new track it is indeed a battle good vs. bad HipHop – very self-referred, but in musical terms a masterpiece. I’ve never heard before a German hiphop star rapping that fast – unbelievable. The first position for PoesieAlbum is number 63.




Söhne Mannheims (Sons Of Mannheim) are kind of a super group. Led by German soul singer no.1 Xavier Naidoo they already have four albums under their belt – all sold in proper amounts reaching top positions of the album list. The second single of their recent album is Freiheit. According to their homepage it is a hommage to the Arabian spring revolutions. The lyrics are much more unspecific defining what freedom is. A soulful ballad as well known from the sons – unfortunatly that’s what most people think, the track just can enter position 77



The new Söhne Mannheims single muc more supports the last Xavier Naidoo single. Bitte hör nicht auf zu träumen (Please Don’t Stop Dreaming) had achieved some new interest during last weeks. It is quite unknown what really caused the new popularity. At least last reports that Xavier Naidoo will be member of a jury at announced TV show The Voice Of Germany might making people more focused on him. Bitte hör nicht auf zu träumen is rising actually to number 45 the highest place since start of this year.





Four years ago the summer hit was a Spanish one sung by a band from Hannover: Marquess. The four guys had a lot of fun and almost three years of real success. Than they made a two years break and now they are back again. With a Spanish song of course named Chapoteo. Unfortunatly they didn’t get the real new idea in the last two years. It is an easy melody, it is a song with simple lyrics – and it is not at all that kind of catchy tune some others of them were. That’s a pity. The comeback starts at number 70.



Dancefloor project Michael Mind Project started last week with Ready Or Not. It is a track on which Sean Kingston sings – it entered the list at 55. Now it tumbles down to 71.



At last a trivia: at wednesday 20th July the German TV broadcasted Song Beneath The Song probably the most emotional episode of the 7th season of Grey’s Anatomy. This episode is made as a complete musical – one of the songs appearing in the show is Chasing Cars. Obviously it moved the German auditorium as well – the original recording by Snow Patrol enters the German charts for a 61st week at 78. Here is the scene in question.


And finally Disney serial Lemonade Mouth arrives in German free TV. First track appearing in the charts is Determinate which sneaks in at position 92. +

Nach dem Sturm in der letzten Woche mit gefühlten 75 Neu- und Wiedereinsteigern gibt es in dieser Woche eine kleine Ruhepause und die Musikkonsumenten in Deutschland sind mit ihren frisch erworbenen CDs glücklich.
Also bleibt auch die Spitze unverändert. Lady GaGa hält es eine zweite Woche mit Poker Face an der Spitze der Singlecharts aus. In der Albumwertung geht ihr Werk The Fame auf Rang 3. Und Just Dance schafft 207 Tage nach der ersten Notierung mit dem Sprung auf die 12 eine neue Bestplatzierung. In der insgesamt 27. Woche wird Just Dance gezählt, und das ist für das Jahr 2009 momentan die längste Anzahl von Wochen, die ein Titel brauchte um bis zu seinem Bestwert zu kommen. Auch im Vergleich mit anderen Jahren sind 27 Wochen schon ein ganz beachtlicher Wert. Im Jahr 2004 belegten De Randfichten mit Lebt denn dr alte Holzmichl noch in der 25. Woche Position 3. Und 2007 waren es Höhner., deren Karnevalshymne Viva Colonia in der 31. Woche die Position 20 als höchsten Platz einnahmen. So viel zum unmittelbaren Umfeld. Spitzenreiter in dieser Liste ist allerdings so gut wie uneinholbar Wham! mit Last Christmas. Erst in der 72. Woche, 23 Jahre nach dem Ersteintritt schaffte es der Titel auf seinen Höchstwert Platz 4. So geschehen vor einem Jahr in der ersten Januarwoche.
Zurück zu Lady GaGa: Alles in allem eine sehr gute Woche für die Künstlerin. Und ich denke, ihr ist es nur recht, wenn es so weiter geht.

Auch Position 2 ist in der Single-Liste mit Silbermond und Irgendwas bleibt ebenfalls unverändert stabil besetzt. Die Zusammenarbeit mit Curse Bis zum Schluss hat mit Rutsch von 41 auf 54 in dieser Woche die obere Hälfte der Charts verlassen und wird wohl sehr bald ganz aus der Liste gestrichen werden.

In der Spitzengruppe der media control-Singlecharts gibt es lediglich auf der 3 eine winzige Bewegung. Dorthin kehren Razorlight mit ihrer Ballade Wire To Wire zurück und verdrängen James Morrison featuring Nelly Furtado nun wahrscheinlich endgültig von den Medaillenplätzen.

Und auch sonst ist es in den Top eher gemütlich ruhig. Die Insassen profitieren allesamt von der Schwäche des letztwöchigen höchsten Neuzugangs Jeanette, deren Undress To The Beat in der zweiten Woche von der 6 auf die 11 taumelt. Demzufolge können Kelly Clarkson, Peter Fox und Katy Perry jeweils einen Platz gut machen. Und für Eisblume und ihren fast gleichlautenden Titel Eisblumen geht es sogar nochmal von der 12 zurück auf die 10.

Die beste CD-Neuveröffentlichung der Woche kann sich nur auf Position 38 behaupten. Das ist für eine Märzliste reichlich ungewöhnlich und für die letzten 10 Jahre mit Sicherheit ein „Rekord“. Für Samy Deluxe ist es die Gelegenheit, zum ersten Mal als höchster Neueinsteiger geführt zu werden. Bis die Sonne rauskommt ist der sechste Chart-Titel unter eigenem Namen, dazu kommen allerdings zwei Platzierungen als featured artist und weitere in Kollaboration mit Afrob als ASD. Und nicht zu vergessen: Samy Deluxe ist auch Teil des Trios Dynamite Deluxe welches sich letztes Jahr wieder in unser Gedächtnis zurück gebracht hat.
Insgesamt gehört Samy Deluxe zu den seit 2000 immer wieder präsenten und sehr beständigen Musikern. Seinen größten kommerziellen Erfolg konnte er bereits am Anfang seiner Chartkarriere verbuchen. Im Jahr 2001 stand er mit „Weck mich auf“ auf Platz 4. Seitdem tummelt er sich meist im oberen Mittelfeld der Liste. Da passt die Positionierung des neuen Sommer-Reggae-Liedes Bis die Sonne rauskommt genau hinein. Für mich ist angesichts der Single ein wenig die Frage, ob die Veröffentlichung im März tatsächlich klug gesetzt ist. Taktisch wäre es vermutlich schlauer gewesen noch ein paar Wochen zu warten. Auch wenn es nur vordergründig um Sommer und Sonne geht und die allgemeingültige Forderung nach mehr Farbe, Freundlichkeit und Toleranz uns ziemlich direkt anspringt. Und ob Bis die Sonne rauskommt tatsächlich das Zeug zum Langzeitklassiker hat, das würde ich an dieser Stelle mal nicht als gesichert voraussetzen.

Der nächste Neuzugang kommt von LaFee. Ihre zweite Auskopplung aus dem Ring frei-Album heißt Scheiss Liebe und kann sich nur auf einer mageren 44 durchsetzen. Wenn sich LaFee-Singles in den media control-Listen platzierten, dann hatten sie bisher mindestens einen Platz mit einer 2 vorne dran. Da hat es also ein Teeniesternchen schwer mit dem Erwachsenwerden.
Bezeichnend ist, dass dies bereits der zweite Titel ist, der Scheisse und Liebe in seinem Namen trägt. Mauli steht damit in dieser Woche allerdings auf der 31.

Im Gegensatz dazu steht der Neueinsteiger auf Platz 46. Nach ziemlich genau 12 Jahren sind nämlich Selig zurück. In den 90ern wurden sie als das Nonplusultra der deutschen Rockmusik gehandelt und haben noch heute diesen Ruf. Wie aber ziemlich oft, sah es kommerziell mit dem Erfolg nicht so bahnbrechend aus … was in diesem Fall sogar für die Qualität der Band spricht. In den 90ern gehörten die Charts nämlich bei weitem nicht zu den kreativsten Einrichtungen. Radio-Airplays wurden zu weiten Teilen berücksichtigt und Independent-Verkäufe gleich gar nicht gewertet. Nicht, dass heute die Erstellung der Liste sensationell fortschrittlicher wäre … aber besser als die Variante vor 15 Jahren allemal.
Aber Selig eben, wer erinnert sich nicht an das großartige Ohne dich? Oder an den Soundtrack zu Knockin On Heaven’s Door? In den Auswertungen taucht der erste Tiitel allerdings gar nicht auf, und der zweite schaffte es gerade mal bis auf Platz 31. Beschämend! Und ein Beweis mehr, dass Chartpositionen enorm relativ sind. Aber bleiben wir bei den Zahlen: Schau Schau, die Comeback-Single entert in der ersten Woche Platz 46. Das klingt eher mager. Vor dem Hintergrund, dass die vielgelobte Band in den 90ern allerdings nur zwei Titel in den Charts absetzen konnte und, wie schon erwähnt, ihr größter Hit lediglich Platz 31 erreichen konnte, bedeutet Platz 44 die bisher zweitbeste Positionierung eines Selig-Titels in den deutschen Charts. Da kann man nur sagen: Comeback gelungen!

Bleiben wir in der Rubrik: Tot gesagte leben länger. Eine Dame, die es nicht lassen kann und dabei ihre Fans im Rücken hat, ist Sandra. Im Jahr 2001 feierte sie ihre erstes Comeback: immerhin drei Charthits. 2007 war sie dann wieder da – mit The Way I Am auf Platz 50. Ihr neuer Titel heißt In A Heartbeat und ist die Vorabauskopplung zum Album Back To Life, welches am 27. März erscheint. Ein Auftritt in der ultimativen Chart-Show (welches Thema war da doch gleich) tut sein Übriges ... und Sandra platziert sich mit ihrem 25. Titel auf der 59. Rechnet man ihre Performance bei Enigma und Arabesque dazu, so kommt sie mittlerweile auf 38 Chart-Titel. Und das ist fast so gut wie Scooter, die mittlerweile 40 Hits platzieren konnten.

Da das neue Material in dieser Woche offensichtlich nicht so wahnsinnig zu faszinieren vermag, haben die Charts ein wenig an Druck verloren und einige Titel schaffen es, sich in diesem Umfeld noch einmal gut zu behaupten. So gelingt der Band Paramore nach 6 Wochen mit ihrem Vampir-Soundtrack Decode die Rückkehr in die obere Hälfte. Am 13. Februar stieg die Single auf Platz 47 ein um danach gleich ein wenig nach unten zu rutschen. Bis zur 64 ging es und seit letzter Woche nimmt der Titel neue Fahrt auf und kann sich nun wieder von 53 auf 47 behaupten.

Ganz leicht aufwärts und nun hinein in die obere Hälfte geht es auch mit Dizzee Rascal featuring Calvin Harris and Chrome. Letzte Woche habe ich mich darüber ausgelassen wie undurchsichtig die Veröffentlichungspolitik der deutschen Labels ist. Dance Wiv Me scheint noch ein wenig Kraft mobilisieren zu können, um sich doch ein wenig in den Charts halten zu können. Da es sich ja bei dem Titel zumindest um ein Dance-Renegat handelt, könnten hier auch noch verstärkt die Online-Verkäufe eine Rolle spielen. Aber dennoch bleibe ich der Meinung, dass hier ganz viel Potenzial ungenutzt bleibt.

Neu dabei ist Titel Nr.3 von Miley Cyrus. Fly On The Wall unterbietet mit Platz 62 minimal das Startergebnis von See You Again im Januar. Das lag bei 59.

Was gibt es so an dauerbrennenden Wiedereinsteigern?
Auf der 76, und damit das höchste Ergebnis seit gut einem halben Jahr, werden Mark Ronson feat. Amy Winehouse mit Valerie notiert. Na gut, wer es noch hören kann …
Auf Platz 85 stehen wieder die Söhne Mannheims mit ihrem Nr.1-Hit Das hat die Welt noch nicht gesehn. Sie haben die dreimonatige Sperrfrist offensichtlich gut überstanden.
Auf der 86 sind Ich + Ich mal wieder Stark. Mittlerweile in ihrer 42. Woche, genauso viel wie So soll es bleiben gesammelt hat.
Auch A Fine Frenzy ist mal wieder auf der 89 dabei. Das letzte mal konnte sich Almost Lover im Januar für eine Woche durchsetzen.
Und auch The Ting Things waren das letzte mal im Januar platziert. Warum sich That’s Not My Name nun erneut auf die 90 schwingt weiß ich nicht. Aber ich mags immer noch sehr.
Mittlerweile in der 20. Woche dabei, und langsam ist es wirklich ein Klassiker Deichkind mit Remmidemmi (Yippie Yippie Yeah. In dieser Woche dabei auf der 95 - und ich empfehle allen Fans den Mash up mit Peter Foxs Alles Neu.
Letzter Re-Entry auf der 99: Eric Prydz mit seinem letzten Hit Pjanoo.

Und wie fast immer: der letzte Neuzugang mit einer kleinen und absonderlichen Geschichte. Dieses Mal ist es auf Platz 92 der Titel Right Here, Right Now. Auf der Front-Seite der CD firmiert ganz groß High School Musical 3, abgebildet sind natürlich die beiden Hauptcharaktere Troy und Gabriella, die auf der Rückseite auch als die Interpreten des Liedes genannt werden. Allerdings mit dem Zusatz: „gesungen von Vanessa Hudgens und Zac Efron“. Naja ... da haben wir also drei Varianten für ein und dasselbe Paar. So etwas nenne ich eine gute Vermarktung, pünktlich zum DVD-Start. Für das Filmpaar Troy & Gabriella ist es Charthit Nummer fünf, Vanessa Hudgens hat unter ihrem eigenen Namen zwei weitere Hits zu stehen.
