November 24th 17: Bausa's No1 Song Becomes Longest Running Since 10 Years

Believe it or not: Was du Liebe nennst by BAUSA spends a seventh week at #1 and is now the longest running #1 song in German since early 2008 when project Schnuffel with Kuschel Song invaded the top for eight weeks.

Azzi Memo is the latest sign on Haftbefehl's label Generation Azzlacks. He now launches his first single hit with AMG2. The collaboration with Nemo lands directly at #8 and is the best performing Azzlack single so far.
Second new top10 song is Let You Down by USAmerican rapper NF. So six songs of the top 10 are USAmerican productions.

With Señorita dropping 9–12 longest running top 10 hits are now Rockstar Post Malone feat. 21 Savage at #4 and Dusk Till Dawn by ZAYN ft. SIA at #5 with nine weeks.

Further new sounds inside the top 20 are the latest offering by UFO361 Tiffany that enters the list at #15 and gives the rapper his highest appearance so far. At #18 Sam Smith lands. To Good At Goodbyes is his first appearance that high since two years. It achieves that position in its 11th chart week.

Only a few days on air/online the new Telekom commercial with Justin Bieber causes an increasing demand for the song Friends (officially credited to Bloodpop too). The song bounces back 39–20 after it was listed for six weeks outside.

Febr 19th 16:

A second week at the top for Norwegian DJ Alan Walker with Faded. Also the #2 stands still with Jonas Blue's version of Fast Car.

The highest new arrival into the top 10 comes from US American twentyøne piløts. Their Stressed Outs jumps 23–6 in its fifth chart week.
Also new inside the top 10 is Elle King. After eight weeks inside the list bouncing around she finally can made it 14–10 with her Ex's & Oh's.
By the arrival of these two US Amercian productions the presence of Europeans inside the Top 10 drops to a low level of five songs–as low as at beginning of September 2013. Of course that doesn't mean European song production has a baisse at all. Inside the top 20 still 12 songs come from Europe–it is some songs short of the 18 productions high of summer 2015 but still a proper result.

Finally the Rihanna-Drake collabarotion Work gets some steam and rises 22–12. It is the highest position the Canadian rapper ever achieved eclipsing the success of his other collaboration with Rihanna What's My Name in February 2011.

On the way up also Mike Posner is. The SeeB remix of his I Took A Pill In Ibiza goes 59–42.
26 places up and a firste appearance inside the upper half–that's the result for Jamie Lawson. The Zwette remix of his Wasn't Expecting That stops at 48. And a jump of 35 places alligatoah takes with Du bist schön. It is the 12 chart week for the song and also the first appearance in the upper half right at #50 which comes due to the release of a song video. alligatoah already has two top50 hist under his belt.

The highest new entry is an old song re-entering after its use for a movie score. It is X Gon' Give It To Ya by rapper DMX which infects people newly in Deadpool the next X-Men side sequel. The song enters at a very low #77. In 2003 the song peaked at #23. For DMX it is a return after a nine years long absence from the charts.
The highest really new song comes in at #83. It is Es rappelt im Karton by Belgian Swiss Pixie Paris. Certainly the song will get much higher the next days as it is used (again) in a wonderful commercial parody for ice cream. So far it is the lowest best new entry since January 2012 and #5 on the all time negative list.

December 18th 15: Kollegah Invades The List Again

Indeed Hello by Adele spends an eighth week at the top and now eclipses the result of best performing no.1 in 2015 (Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) by Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson). So it is a race exciting till the last week of the year: What sound does German music lovers attract more, soft deep house or classic ballads about lost love? Do you have a guess?#

In once Hello also matches the result of Puppet On A String by Sandie Shaw from 1967. That song was the last from a British female solo artist spending eight weeks at #1 in Germany. The next mark to catch for Adele is the run of Petula Clark's Downtown which technically spent 11 weeks at #1.

Strongest competitor for Adele lands at #2 in the face of Show Me Love the new single offered by Robin Schulz. It is the fifth single of the German DJ that reaches at least #2–that all happened within two years.

Talking bout best performing songs of 2015 one have to point out the 19 weeks run inside the top 10 of Astronaut by Sido Feat. Andreas Bourani. The song sits pretty at #7 this weeks. Ain't Nobody and Cheerleader had spent only 18 weeks under the top 10 selling singles in 2015.

Two songs enter the top 10 for the very first time. It is this the new European hit by Major Lazer Light It Up that goes 12–8 in its fifth chart week. Voices on this track are from Jamaican Nyla and Birtish Fuse ODG.
Second one rises a bit faster. In its third chart week Stimme by EFF goes 15–9. Behind the project there are Felix Jaehn and Mark Forster, both belonging to the stars of 2015. For Felix Jaehn it is the fourth top 10 hit (all in 2015), Mark Forster gets here for the third time, in 2015 so far he did not appear that high.

Canadian teenie star #2 Shawn Mendes reaches the top 20 for the very first time. Stitches lands at #15 in its 15th chart week and increases the total of tracks inside the top 20 offered by Canadians to 7. Such a strong presence never was seen before in Germany.

The best selling album comes from Kollegah. Zuhältertape Vol.4 dethrones Helene Fischers Weihnachten and Adeles 25 which indeed is a strong thing. As a result of the album start 17 album tracks can achieve the song charts too. Highest one and best new entry of the week is John Gotti that lands at #31. It is that a better performance than one and a half year ago while predecessor album Boss had its launch.

A new commercial spot for supermarket chain EDEKA became a viral hit and porpells its soundtrack into the list. It is Neele Ternes' Dad that can start chart life at #43. So it performs better than the first campaign Supergeil recorded by Friedrich Liechtenstein in early 2014. That one stopped at #50.

The Voice of Germany used to be the better casting show–not as popular as mother of all castings DSDS although still big enough to make hits. This year the audience increased dramatically. We had some short impacts for Wolke 4 (originally by Philipp Duttberner, Oft gefragt by AnnenMayKantereit and probably also The Hanging Tree (originally recorded by James Newton Howard. On Thursday 17th the final was aired featuring winner Jamie-Lee Kriewitz. Her self written song Ghost immediately gains attention and lands at #59 after a few hours online. It will certainly jump much higher in next weeks time.
Runners up Ayke Witt can land his Bis gleich at #86.

July 17th 15: Stable No.1s

Well–CRO sits pretty at #1 with his single Bye Bye. Meanwhile the MTV-Unplugged album gives way for another new CD.
A third consecutive week at the Top means: this is the third #1 hit lasting for at least three weeks at the very Top. Quite an unusual feat las seen in early 2013 when Rihanna had her Diamonds teen weeks at the top followed by will.i.am & Britney Spears and their nine weeks run with Scream & Shout and the five weeks leadership of Let Her Go recorded by Passenger. The current run of #1 hits ain't that excessive: See You Again spent five weeks at the top, Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) had an eight weeks trip and CRO so far his third week. Well, there might something more follow.

The album which sits pretty at #1 comes from K.I.Z. Title track Hurra die Welt geht unter ranks on the singles list at #31, the intro song Wir lands at #47. Also first single Boom Boom Boom pre-released in May returns at #53. Finally Geld sneaks in at #80, Ariane at #90, Glücklich und satt at #93 and AMG Mercedes at #96.

Back to the singles chart. Once again the first six songs hold firm at their rank–so it is a third week for all the first six that they don't change. First significant movers come in at #13 with Photograph by Ed Sheeran which rises up 6 places and reaches a new peak more than a year after its first chart appearance. At #14 there lands German JORIS with his debut Herz über Kopf. The song already spent 18 weeks on the survey–on July 11th the singer had an appearance on TV at Ina's Nacht which featured him to a complete new audience. The effect is an impressive eight place rise.

The highest new song comes in at #24. It is the debut single of Frankfurt Namika named Lieblingsmensch. The album Nador follows in a few days.

One of the most commented news of the past days was Bastian Schweinsteiger's move to Manchester United. The fact was reported on July 11th, a few days later a commercial spot for Beats by Dre featuring the football star was launched. Used as background music So wie du bist by MoTrip Feat. Lary is featured in the clip. The track immediately jumps 67–26 and gives the artist a new career peak.

Season's final of Empire aired on July 14th on German TV brings some songs into the list that are not included on the official soundtrack album. So there are You're So beautiful at #42 and Drip Drop (feat. Serayah McNeill, Yazz) at #73, Conqueror (feat. Estelle and Jussie Smollett) at #87, Keep Your Money at #91 and Money For Nothing at #94.

Since few months European productions perform very strong on the list. US-American stars also like the hand of European producers on their tracks for some several years. This changing of the musical world map somehow is connected with a fading British influence. Counting the numbers of hits involving British acts we only have 17 this current week. In contrast there are 70 productions involving European acts–35 of them including Germans.
The strongest presence as well US-Americans have on the list. 34 productions are made by or under appearance of an US artist. This strength is impressive although it ain't that usual anymore–a month ago there were only 23 tracks counting for the US.

7th of March 2014: The power of TV

Back at the Top Pharrell Williams is adding a seventh Nr.1 week to the account of his hit Happy after he performed it at Wetten dass...?. Last weeks No.1 Waves by MR PROBZ has to step beside and sits now at number 2.

Looking up the history Pharrell is the first male solo artist since Michel Teló in early 2012 who rests at least seven weeks at number 1 (of course I don’t count here AVICII who always colaborates with uncredited singers.)

Wetten dass...!? more and more looses its audience–in Germany a heated debate is going on about that fact. But the show still boosts music sales. So Adel Tawil’s Lieder goes 16–10 after it was performed live at the show. The track already spent 17 weeks inside the list–most of them inside the Top 10. Now it is back for a further week.

Highest new entry comes from an Norwegian act. Nico & Vinz had some first success in Scandinavia under the name Envy. Her single Am I Wrong is the first one released outside the northern countries and immediately lands at number 3 in Germany. It is the highest Norwegian production since five years when a-ha hauled up their Foot Of The Mountain to number 3 also.

New inside the Top 10
As expected Rather Be by Clean Bandit goes 12–6 and breaks the Top 10 after the full CD version is released. Also AVICII gets his Addicted To You inside the Top 10. The track lands at number 8 ten days ahead of the relaese of new remixes. It is the third Top 10 hit from hi album True.

Stopping short of the big 10 Liar Liar by Cris Cab improves being a hit. It goes 28–13 in its fifth chart week and features master of the moment Pharrell Williams as producer. So after three number 1 hits PW is on the way for the next step. In next weeks time also physical sales count into the list.

The fast rise of LORDE comes to a halt slowly. Team only rises one further place reaching exactly number 20. It's her second Top 20 hit. Predecessor Royals slides to number 35 this week.

Carnival hits
This issue covers sales from 21st of February to 27th. It is the week just before the crazy days of Shrove Monday and Tuesday. As every year this time generates its own hits–some of them returning for several years. The leap made by Cologne BRINGS is most significant for increasing interest in carnival hits this week. Kölsche Jung lands at number 41 which is a new peak for the song and the highest rank the band can achieve since four years.

Jürgen Drews also offers a new single. Und wir waren wie Vampire lands at number 48. It is his 27th chart hit as a solo performer. If you count his chart career as a member of Les Humphries Singers too he is an artist having chart success since the weekly charts were enabled. From still active artists only Peter Maffay's career spans a longer time started in April 1970.

Back on the list are: Cat Ballou with Es jitt kei Wood (#62), voXXclub with Rock mi (#100–63), Peter Wackel with the carnival edition of his song Scheiss drauf! (#67), Kasalla with Pirate (#77), HÖHNER with Das geht nie vorbei (new peak at #85).

An elder track becomes a new hit by its use for a viral campaign–that's the story written often enough but still has the power to surprise people. Latest chapter is the story around Supergeil by Der Tourist Feat. Friedrich Liechtenstein. Latter one is a semi known actor in Berlin who had started producing electronic music 10 years ago. By doing this he got to know some other producers and was featured on some tracks with his voice or just for acting in video clips. So he did last year for Der Tourist. The track incidently reached the marketing department of supermarket seller EDEKA. Two weeks ago a new video version of the track was released becoming immediately popular and now starting to sell even the official release of the track is scheduled for 8th of March yet. Starting its chart life at number 59 also means: this thing might become big.

Hot Spot 11-29-13

Klingande spend a fifth week at number 1. Meaning Jubel eclipses the success of Bob Sinclars anthem Love Generation which was the last French production that was the most sold single for five weeks. That was back in 2006. To find another French success of that dimension one has to go back to autumn 1989 when Lambada paralyzed at least whole Europe. The project Kaoma had an impressive 10 weeks turn on the German top.

Adel Tawil brings his Lieder back to runner’s up position. After the run in the first week on sale and his first released album the song can made it to a real standalone hit too. So far he was once number 1 as an solo artist alongside Azad and once as one half of Ich + Ich.

A little sensation takes place on the upper place with a complete British free Top 10. Such a situation wasn’t seen for a long long time. Highest British act comes in at number 11 in the face of James Blunt. Further down some more acts show their power: With his album Swings Both Ways flying to number 1 Robbie Williams’ single Go Gentle also takes a leap to land at number 16 this week. The duet with Olly Murs I Wan'na Be Lik You sneaks in at number 85 while Dream A Little Dream Of Me with Lily Allen lands three places further down.
Back to the upper regions: After nine weeks outside the Top 20 Birdy’s Wings is back at number 18. Peak of the single was in its release week in late September at number 15.

At number 21 a dance track comes in that ain’t fully released yet. Changes by French Faul & Wad Ad feat. Pnau is already a big hit in clubs and perfectly fits the number one sound of Klingande and likes. It’s very certain that we witness here the next big hit.

Helene Fischer now gets the full Bambi award effect: her single Atemlos durch die Nacht jumps 69–22 after her hosting and performance within the show aired on TV. It is this a new peak for the song and the second highest place she ever achieved in the singles chart after this year's Fehlerfrei which touched the Top 20 for one single week and now goes 86–54 again. – Her hit ich will immer wieder ...dieses fieber spürn also bounces up the list stopping at number 48 which is the highest position since its first chart run in autumn 2009.

Watching a hit growing: one week before its release as a single Unconditionally by Katy Perry rises further 20 places stopping at number 34. Also the Sportfreunde Stiller see their album title track New York Rio Rosenheim rising steadily. This weeks it arrives inside the upper half stopping at number 49 in its seventh chart week.

All NIght by Swedish Icona Pop gots some attention by its use for the latest ABSOLUT VODKA commercial campaign. Their first hit I Love It was benefitting heavily from a similar deal. Will the 97–66 turn of the new song enable as the begin of their next big hit?

The opener song of P!NK's one year old album The Truth About Love calls Are We All We Are and this week the song makes it up to a chart entry at number 82 as an album cut.

TKO–the second single from Justin Timberlake's album The 20/20 Experience: Two of two returns to chart honours after a new remix is around and the artist is back in the news with his movie Inside Llewyn Davis that will start in Germany soon. The single so far sneaks in at number 90.

Hot Spot 11-22-13

Still Klingande holds firm at number 1 with their hit Jubel. It is now the fourth week at the very top. After released as an EP bundle with Jubel also the first single of the project Punga can enter the list at number 59. Like the other song Punga performs in German speaking countries better than in its home country France.

German chart surprise Milky Chance finally touch the Top 3 with their Stolen Dance. Also in Austria the duo becomes a Top 10 ect, Switzerland reports the track still rising.

After more than five years in charts Miley Cyrus for the first time can launch a Top 10 hit. Wrecking Ball stops at number 6 after the star performed the song in Germany's still most watched Saturday night TV show Wetten dass...?!. It is already her 11th chart hit – that was a long way.

Star guest number two in Wetten dass...?! came in the face of Celine Dion. Her single Loved Me Back To Life gets a sales boost and jumps 80–38. It is the highest rank the star can achieve since six years.

Hyped as the sensation of the week Lady Gaga's new album Artpop fails to become number 1. It stops at number 3 behind EMINEM and The Rolling Stones. The single Do What U Want (Feat. R. Kelly) can get some benefit from the release of the full album but also stalls at number 17 what is only a medium result for the superstar.

The real sensation of the week is the return of a 45 years old song. It was caused by–you already guess right–a performance within a casting show. Nights In White Satin is the song in question that brings after a break of 27 years British band The Moody Blues back to chart life. The song was performed at The Voice Of Germany. Thanks to Nena three candidates had to sing the classic, which started its first chart run back in March 1968 peaking at number 18 on the list issued for May 15th. It was re-released at the end of 1972 when it had a successful ride to number 1 in the US. That second chart run stopped at number 27 in Germany. In 1995 Sandra recorded a new version reaching number 86 for one single week. Now the original recording again appears at number 39 and–yes–it is far and away the eldest song charted in this decade and probably the song with the longest chart career of all times.

Hit number 2 caused by The Voice Of Germany is a classic German rock song never charted before. Ohne Dich recorded by Selig is probably one of their most popular song. When it was recorded in 1994 the band was anything but well known. The video was played on music TV in hot rotation–anyway it had no chance to chart. This year British synthpop duo HURTS offered a cover version that had a short chart appearance in September. In their concerts taking place right now in Germany that song is one of the most referred in newspapers. Now the original can made it up in the list and lands at number 52. Usually hits generated by casting show performances disappear after a single week. That destiny is very certain for Selig too. But in a few weeks a TV Noir-compilation will appear. And the most watched youtube video of that concert serial is Ohne Dich performed by Selig:

Kid Ink Feat. Chris Brown are permanently on the way up. Shoe Me this weeks jumps exactly 20 places to number 47.

Passenger got some attention in the Cologne area where he played a concert on 7th of November. It boosts his single Holes to number 48 after it fell down to number 60 two weeks ago.

A commercial spot for a new TV advice generates a Europe wide hit. berlin by world travelling RY X entered the British and French charts already, in Germany he starts his career at number 53.

Katy Perry's next single Unconditionally rises full 32 places stopping at number 54 two weeks before its release. I guess this will be a big hit around Christmas.

Aired on Thursday, 14th November, the Bambi award ceremony leave some early traces in the list. Miley Cyrus-mentioned above-was one of the winners. Second star of the nigth (or first?–nobody really knows) was Helene Fischer who hosted the show and got an award too. Thanks to this big TV presence her last single Atemlos durch die Nacht re-appears in the list. It will probably rise further next week. Also her biggest hit to date ich will immer wieder … dieses Fieber spür'n re-appears at number 93.

Already two months released Steve Aoki's offer Boneless catches slowly fire. It enters the charts this week at number 70.

London Grammar's Strong also is on the way up. It stops at number 74 one week before full CD release count into the survey's result. Where will they land next week?

Finally the so called fifth season started on 11th November–in Germany a big date. Due to the begin of the carnival some well known hits show up. First of all it is Austrian Andreas Gaballier who sees his one and only chart hit i sing a liad für di returning again at number 79. Two places behind the latest offer from Cologne BRINGS comes in. Kölsche Jung spent a second week inside the list.

EMINEM still is number 1 in the album's list with his The Marshall Mathers LP2. The track only delivered with the deluxe version Beautiful Pain (Featuring Sia) makes it now as a single track into the list. Additionally the single Love The Way You Lie (Featuring Rihanna) sneaks in again at number 100 and gives the rapper having six different tracks listed inside the survey–a feat we've last seen in March 2012 by Pitbull.

Available with the album Demonstration Tinie Tempah's single Someday (Place In The Sun) find some first lovers. The full single release with some more mixes will count into next week's list. Number 89 has to be beaten.

Hot Spot 09-27-13

Story number one: Katy Perry is not Nr.1. Jason Derulo Feat. 2 Chainz is.

After Superstar winner Beatrice Egli and German raop idol CRO Jason Derulo is the third act in 2013 who can enter the list direct at number 1. Coincidently exactly one year ago we too had a straight number 1 entry with Lila Wolken by Marteria • Yasha • Miss Platnum.

Sliding one place AVICII is no longer the champion of the charts. Instead his album True enters the album list at number 5 and propels five tracks into the singles list. There are Wake me up! at number 2, Hey Brother new at number 24, You Make Me rising 49–40, Addicted To You new at number 71 and LE7ELS re-entering at number 88. The Swedish DJ is only the third act invading the survey with five tracks simultanously. Before that feat were done only by CRO and will.i.am.

More Top 20 action:
Martin Garrix goes Top 5 with Animals. He falls only one rank short to eclipse the success of last Dutch Top 10 act Caro Emerald from the year 2011.

French Woodkid stops his Run Boy Run at number 11 after it is heavily promoted by its use for a vodafone TV commercial. It's the highest rank the artist achieved ever.

The Imagine Dragons launch their third Top 20 hit in Germany with On Top Of The World. It goes up to number 13 this current week. They got big support by their opening concert for the New Pop Festival 2013 in Baden Baden. The event was broadcasted on TV and the internet.

Miley Cyrus rises with Wrecking Ball which lands at number 16 and matching the success of We Can't Stop from last week. It is the highest rank so far for the artist.

And also Family of the Year enters the Top 20 with the song Hero that can reach number 19.

German productions sliding down in popularity. Highest German song is Das kann uns keiner nehmen by Revolverheld which comes in at number 17. That's the lowest result since start of May when Sido's Bilder im Kopf were slowly fading away and landing at number 18.

But there is some hope a few places lower. New German rap star Alligatoah sees his long sleeper Willst du staedily rising. This week it climbs to number 20.

Last story this week: With 15 new entries the list reaches the third highest amount of new songs in one week. Only the issues March 1st (19 new entries) and the one May 31st (24 new entries) looked newer this year.

Hot Spot 09-20-13

AVICII still delivers the most selling single of the week. Wake Me Up! now holds the 10th week firm at the Top. Last track doing so was Rihanna's Diamonds at the tail end of 2012 meaning Wake Me Up! right now is the longest standing Nr.1 of the year. Technically it still can be dethroned, but well … do you believe in miracles?

AVICII not only rewrites the history of the year 2013 – he also approaches the history of Swedish pop music. With 10 weeks on Top in Germany Wake Me Up! is the longest standing No.1 hit coming from Sweden since 19 years. In November 1994 Cotton Eye Joe by the Rednex landed at the Top and hold there for exactly 10 weeks. As far as I know never before a Swedish production performed more successful.

Martin Garrix now hits the Top 10 – his track Animals lands at number 8 this current week.

After released on CD We Can't Stop by Miley Cyrus gets a sales boost and jumps 39–16 in its 14th chart week. With that she reaches a new peak in her whole career. So far 7 Things from 2008 was her highest climbing single stopped at number 17. Upcoming single Wrecking Ball also takes a leap landing at number 25 this week.

Belgian stromae does have a second Top10 hit in Germany with Papaoutai that sits pretty at number 7. His breakthrough track alors on danse also gains some new attention and re-enters at number 72 this current week. It is the highest ranking the track can achieve since January 2011.

A last gossip story: Discobitch is back with its hit C'est beau la bourgeoisie after the track is used in a commercial spot for the new Citroen DS3. In 2009 the recording made it up to number 61 in Germany.

Hot Spot 05-17-13

Capital Cities and their Safe And Sound holds firm a second week at the Top of Germany’s singles list. So we are whitness very calm times. Since November 2012 we only see number 1 hits which at least stay for two weeks or longer at the top. The last time we had a situation like this was back in early 2010 when between end of January and first week in June five tracks reached the top for at least two weeks. Than the Eurovision success of Lena broke the smooth way of number 1 changes. Well … we are just watching some euro trash on TV and bidding for the one or another act …

New at number 2 is Xavier Naidoo with his teasing single from the upcoming album Bei meiner Seele. The track comes in three different versions–so everybody can find a beloved mix. The song so far is the best ranking track produced by a German artist since October past year when Wankelmut had his heydays with a remix of Asaf Avidan’s Reckoning Song.

Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams reach a new peak with Get Lucky. The song lands at number 4 in its third chart week and is the most successful track at all of both artists.

Meine Soldaten by MAXIM is used in the commercial spot for dooloop.tv. After an impressive start five weeks ago the track returns to the Top 20 after heavy rotation on TV. Another song used for a commercial campaign can be found rising 52–37 with YourTouch by Blake Lewis.

Without any big campaign Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell rises into the Top 20 too. This journey probably ain’t at the end yet.

Last week the DSDS impact was very low. Only one track made it into the list. This week the show is a little more present in the current survey. Three years old Get Shaky by The Ian Carey Project re-enters at number 46 after Lisa Wohlgemuth performed the track live on May 4th.

Three weeks ago Kid Cudi released his new album Indicud. Probably thenew stuff also emerged a demand in some older tracks. Pursuit Of Happiness–his last chart entry from spring 2012–returns this current week and lands on a new peak: number 51.

Released on Monday 29th of April This Is What It Feels Like only had half a week for entering the survey last issue. Now with full weekend sales Armin van Buuren Featuring Trevor Guthrie rise 99–57.

Hot Spot 05-10-13

Germany has a new number 1. Safe And Sound rises 7–1 and makes Capital Cities the second new act this current year that reach the Top with the first single. Of course Capital Cities have some support by a TV commercial campaign of mobile company vodafone. The release of the single is scheduled for May 17th–so we should be aware having the song for some further weeks ranking as the best selling one.

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell is on the way to become a massive hit. So far not listed at the main download portals the track jumps 56–27 in its 3rd chart week. Switzerland already reports an impressive number 5–so there are much more success to come in Germany too.

The Voice Kids is the casting show that this week supports most some hits. First of all Lights originally recorded by Ellie Goulding gets some new power after the song was one of the battles on April 26th. Second song profiting from the performances is Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth Feat. Emeli Sande. It re-enters at number 42.
Also Miriam Bryant re-enters with Finders Keepers. Her song had a single chart appearance at the tail end last year. Now it shots to number 46 reaching a not expected peak.
Other winner is Bruno Mars and his Locked Out Of Heaven.
And really surprising: some tracks rise allthough they were performed a week before. Aitziber’sperformance of In Love With The World generates some new demand and propells the song back to the list at number 56, Judith’s song from a week before Call Me Maybe makes a jump 96–64 and I Won’t Let You Go by James Morrison also rises 76–65.

DSDS only can help Angel by Sarah McLachlan to number 60 after Lisa Wohlgemuth performed the song.

Very slowly the next Justin Bieber single catches fire. An official release date so for not was reported but All Around The World rises on album downloads alone up to number 53 this current week.

Also slowly the single from Thirty Seconds To Mars Up In The Air rises again. It now profits from the freshly released video clip.

A slow burner also is Pompeii by Bastille. Released in February the track now rises up the list reaching number 71 this week.

After his album The Day You Live Forever was released Ryan Sheridan also gains a single hit. Jigsaw enters at number 72 as digital album cut.

A statistical fact at last: This current week ist the one which gives will.i.am a 45th appearance in the list in 2013 alone. So now he matches the result of German rapper CRO so far. Hard on the heels of both follows Emeli Sandé who falls only one appearance short. As we right now count the 19th chart week of 2013 it means all of the three acts had at least two tracks inside the list in every single week of the year.

07-27-12: A Lazy Summer Week

Lykke Li spends a third week at the Top of the German list and becomes the most successful female artist since Lana del Rey who occupied the Top spot for three weeks last at the end of 2011. It is quite interesting seeing I Follow Rivers fascinating whole Germany but almost failing in Austria and Switzerland where the charts usually are almost identical. Even in her hometown Sweden the song only made it to Number 44. So Lykke Li is a successful single act only in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France.

Also one of the biggest gainer at the upper end is a hit only in Germany at the moment. The remix of Reckoning Song / One day by DJ Wankelmut enters the Top 10 and makes Asaf Avidan one of the few Israeli artists who made it to bigger fame in Germany. In Austria and Switzerland the remix is released too, but only can made it to a position lower than 40.

Back to female stars. After her performance in Germany at the festival MELT and the breaking news that Lana del Rey will be the new face of the upcoming H&M campaign her single Summertime Madness takes a leap up to number 8. It is her second hit reaching the Top 10 in Germany. Her first big hit Video Games also re-enters at the end of the list after a six weeks abstinence.

It is a quiet and lazy summer week this issue. We do have only three new entries and six songs reentering the list which gives upcoming hits of the future the chance of getting more attention. Still available as an album cut only Move In The Right Direction by gossip will become big for sure as it climbs almost 20 places to number 35. The release of the CD single is announced for August 17th. Will the song reach Top 10 status before?

Still not released but highly featured in the movie Ice Age 4 The Wanted see their single Chasing The Sun rising 90–61. The release of the CD is scheduled for right now (27th July). Also rising although not on CD is the upcoming single by Taio Cruz World In Your Hands. The song goes 93–70.

German yellow press tried to convince us for a long time that boy group One Direction is a star act in Germany. But honestly–nobody really cares about the boys. The very first appearance on the singles list ended after a week in April this year . The album even didn’t chart. Then the label started to promote the song What Makes You Beautiful heavily as the soundtrack of the RTL campaign for their Movie Summer 2012. Having a daily TV presence last weeks the song finally starts rising and reaches the upper half of the list for the first time this week. Number 40 can count as a medium hit–a 12 weeks run to get there is more than annoying for the so called hottest boy group act of the season.

Summer time is the time of open airs and concerts. So let's watch the effect of live appearances in Germany by seeing Santigold pimping her chart career a little. Her single Disparate Youth rises 11 places again. Also on tour is TheBossHoss. On July 14th they released a new single Live It Up. Instead having a chart entry with this well known hit Don’t Gimme That rises 83–74.

On tour through the clubs everywhere in Europe included party island Mallorca Remady & MANU-L can give their song Single Ladies a second chart life. So far the track reached number 50 which is the best performance ever for the Swiss DJ. Now the track bounces back to number 64. In Poland the track was nominated for being the track of the year. Wow! (But had no chance against national power. The winner was Enej with Skrzydlate rece.

And finally let's have a look at new released tracks. Out on CD Sunshine (Fly So High) by Mike Candys Ft. Sandra Wild makes it in the Top 50. It lands at number 49 and is so far the worst performing single of the Swiss DJ.

The highest new entry this week comes in at number 66. It is one of the lowest best new entries ever. In 2012 only Natasha Bedingfield had a worse start as best entering artist with Shake Up Christmas 2011 on 6th January. If we exclude the first days of the year when almost no one releases new tracks and that’s why there is no new material–if one only watches the whole rest of the year one has to realise that July is indeed a time with weak releases. In 2011 it was Pures Gold by Norman Langen who started as the lowest best new entry of the year 2011 at number 69 on 15th July. In 2009 it was Sean Kingston who saw his Fire Burning starting at number 56 on 24th of July. Me myself–I don’t know why labels does not release strong songs in summer time. Well, people are on holiday–but isn’t it a good time for buying hits and discovering new music. I’m not an A&R manager, so I can’t answer it.

The best new entry this week is not only one of the lowest of all time. It is also the first Nigerian artist who can enter the German list. Of course it is not completely true as we had a few artists invading the charts that were born in Nigeria. Most famous there are Sade and Dr. Alban. In younger times there was Nneka who lives in Germany right now but identifies herself as a Nigerian and sings in her mother tongue. D’ Banj now is the first artist who actually lives in Nigeria and can launch a hit in Germany. His Oliver Twist mixes afro with electronic beats and became a big hit in his home country and a lot of other African countries last year. In May 2012 it reached the list in Britain and now finds the way to central Europe too. Germany might be a start for a bigger success.

In 1991 German speaking countries had a big summer hit provided by a commercial campaign. It was BACARDI that launched a catchy tune for its TV advertisements and later released it as a proper single named Bacardi Feeling (Summer Dreamin'). Singer of the song was Kate Yanai. 20 years later BACARDI is celebrating the anniversary of that success by releasing a cover version. Singer today is Kelly Rowland supported by a no name production team appearing under project b.. The single was released at the beginning of July but needs a little more promotion. Two weeks after being in shelves the single can reach the Top 100. Rank 79 is far and away from the success the song had back in 1991.

Let's have a short look into the album list which is much more vivant than the singles survey. Highest new album is Kopf im Sturm (Head In The Storm) by German BAKKUSHAN. It starts at number 14 and also lifts the single Nur die Nacht (Only the Night) back in the list–at number 98.

And finally some news from the survey of hits staying the most consecutive weeks in the charts. Adele’s Rolling In The Deep adds this issue a 81st week to its account matching the result of 1996 song Die längste Single der Welt by Wolfgang Petry. Both are now the third longest consecutive runner. Only Geboren um zu leben by UNHEILIG and Heavy Cross by gossip have had a longer run so far. Let’s check that in about three months again and we will see whether Adele can touch these records too.

Casting shows and other TV related hits

This is the Christmas issue of the German charts. Well – and it brings a really romantic and blue touch. Lana Del Rey sits a third week pretty at number 1 with her Video Games – Blue Jeans single. The only one coming close to her position is Australian Gotye whose Somebody That I Used To Know rises 6–2 and matches the mood of the number 1 hit.

The main gainers of the week come due to recently aired casting shows on TV. Most popular is Jar Of Hearts by Christina Perri. The track gots its boost from a performance of 13year old Lukas Mattioli within the semi final of the Supertalent. The audience of the show voted him off the stage – the track he performed jumps 22–13.

Second winner of the semi final is piano player Jörg Berreten from Switzerland. He played Comptine d’une autre été, l’après midi from the French movie Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain (english title: Amélie). The track – which is available as an digital album track only – re-enters the list for a 7th week.

The other big show actually on TV is The Voice of Germany. Here the biggest winner is Nur in meinem Kopf (Only In My Head) by Andreas Bourani. It is back in the list due to the performance of Stefan Zielasko. The track already had a 28 weeks long chart career, two weeks ago it was listed last time – now it jumps back to number 31. Stefan Zielasko is not a new one for casting show watchers. He competed at the fourth season of Popstars in 2004. Back than he missed being part of final band cast for Nu Pagadi. Right after the show there was a small media turbulence about that fact – in the show Stefan Zielasko pretended to never performed before on stage.

Another contestant caused the re-entry of Halt dich an mir fest in the version of Revolverheld feat. Marta Jandová from Die Happy. It was Berlin Hermann Muralev who got at first a ticket for the next round at December 9th show. Almost exactly a year ago the track started at number 8 which was the highest place it ever reached – 45 weeks it was listed, now it adds a week more.

A jumper back into the Top 20 is Paradise by Coldplay. It takes a 27–14 leap in its 13th chart week – me actually don’t know why. Probably it fits very well to the romantic pre-Christmas feeling.

Best German new entry and best new entry but far and away from the best sold German track is Casper’s new single Auf und davon (Up and away). It lands at number 42 – going back to the best sold German track: it is still Cello by Udo Lindenberg feat. Clueso at number 9.

A second new German track with a strong link to the Voice of Germany show comes in at number 76. A half of the jury – The BossHoss & Nena – recorded a version of Nat King Coles famous L.O.V.E.. The track is part of BossHoss’ album Liberty Of Action and actually is used for the soundtrack of the new Matthias Schweighöfer movie Rubbeldiekatz (Rubthecat) . The track is available as a single a week before the movie started in theatres. So number 76 probably is not the end of the story.

Although L-O-V-E is a very famous tune covered by a lot of artists and used for commercials as well (last time around 2008) it never was a chart hit nor in Germany neither in Switzerland or Austria. A version by Joss Stone entered the Swiss charts in 2007. The recording by The BossHoss & Nena is the first time the track is listed. – Nena with this new entry matches the amount of the chart hits The Beatles had in Germany.

The original Jazz version by Nat King Cole

Latest German new entry is brought by Söhne Mannheims. Für dich is the third lift from their latest album Barrikaden von Eden (Barricades Of Eden). It is a very weak appearance the single shows, matching the result of 2001 single Power Of The Sound. Probably the audience is facing the complexity of the reality and doesn’t believe in the promises of a simplier society anymore.

More new or re-entries related to media/TV appearances:

Australian band Gypsy & The Cat became popular in German speaking countries after their Jona Vark was used as background tune for VIVA’s own spots. Now they signed the next TV commercial deal. Time To Wander is used for a Vodafone commercial. Now they are more popular in Germany than in their home country Australia.

Finally Die ultimative Chartshow was celebrating its 100th show. Host Oliver Geißen invited to homage the most loved songs of the Germans at December 9th. The most loved (and voted) song was Earth Song by Michael Jackson, number 2 – with a live performance in the show – UNHEILIG and Geboren um zu leben (Born For Living). After the airing the song is back in the sales list although it was already listed for 94 consecutive weeks. Only Heavy Cross by Gossip had two weeks more. Now the track adds a week more – probably it will left the list soon – making him the 4th longest runner of all times behind Heavy Cross (96 weeks), Last Christmas (97 weeks and actually number 30) and Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) (A Star (Named After You) (106 chart weeks). In March 2012 the new album of UNHEILIG will be spreaded – it will be hard work continuing the huge success of the predecessor.

Number 24 at the TV show’s list is a longtime seller again: Run made popular by Leona Lewis. Exactly three years ago the song was listed for the first time. The big boost came in October/November 2010, when the song made number 3 after a performance by a contestant at the Popstars show. Since than it was listed 62 consecutive weeks – popping up the charts several time after further performances in casting shows. Last week it finally dropped out the list and now re-enters at number 85 after Leona Lewis appeared on TV again. It is the 93rd week for the female version. The original offered by Snow Patrol only one week appeared in the list.

Aura Dione – The Next Big Superstar?

A surprisingly new Number 1 leads the chart of this week. Danish singer Aura Dione can gain the chart crown in Germany for a second time in her career . Geronimo is the first single taken from her upcoming album Before The Dinosaurs which is produced by names like David Jost (Tokio Hotel and Keri Hilson) and Rick Nowels (Madonna, Nelly Furtado and Colbie Caillat). A precisely planned campaign joins the release of the album: the airplay started a few weeks before, a new website was launched and – very untypically – the video is not released yet. All these facts caused a strong interest in the new single making it fly to a record. It is so far the fastest sold single not coming from a casted act in 2011.

The second number 1 for Aura Dione makes her one of the most successfull Danish acts of all times. Only once before a Danish singer reached the Top in Germany twice. It was Gitte Haenning in 1963. – In 2011 Aura Dione is the fourth act that re-enters the number 1 position with a new hit. The difference to Lady Gaga, Rihanna and The Black Eyed Peas is that those all already had three Number 1 hits before 2011. So Aura Dione is still on the way of becoming a megaselling superstar. Funny trivia besides: The Danish singer took the longest break from being Number 1 of all the acts rebounding to number 1 – almost 2 years. Probably Europeans are more calmed down in their release schedule than Americans …

Geronimo von Aura Dione

One of the longest active German rappers is back at position 14. Berlin Kool Savas started his career in the very early 90s. He only once had broader mainstream success when he was collaborating with Azad in 2005. Although he was very productive since than releasing four different albums, the interest in his work somehow faded away. Now he is back with a new album called Aura – the title track is available as a download single since 21st of October. The strong entry – it is the second highest position Kool Savas ever reached – shows the way how that senior rapper really can attract masses. The track itself is a kind of a self-assertion mixing an combatant attitude with a semi spiritual believe. In times of non controllable systems and crisis people seem finding a constant in their lifes and values in that strange melange.

As an effect of his performance at latest X Factor (25th Oktober) James Morrison manages finally to climb up the list. I Won’t Let You Go rises 22–15 reaching a new peak. It is quite strange seeing the song Top 10 almost everywhere in Europe except in Finland, Belgium and Germany.

The second casting show on German TV also brings tracks back up in the charts. Two rises are really significant.
Most loved contestant was for sure Sascha Miskovic performing The Kill (Bury Me) vocally and at the piano. The song was originally recorded by Thirty Seconds To Mars. It was the first chart hit of the band in Germany climbing to number 58 in 2007. Now the song shoots back to number 36 giving the band the second highest position they ever reached in Germany.

Audience’s darling number 2 was for sure Dergin Tokmak. Since his childhood Dergin is physically disabled – at the show he performed as an acrobatic dancer to Don’t Stop The Party by The Black Eyed Peas. The track is back in the list at number 60. Further TV influence can be found in the recent list. British singer The Good Natured slowly becomes popular in Germany. Her song Skeleton is used as a background tune for a Deichmann commercial. The track rises 83–68 in its third chart week. Finally I have to mention the second German new entry for this week. It is Roger Cicero with his new single In diesem Moment (At This Moment). The track is featuring his upcoming same tiitled new album. As a hit single the track can’t really catch fire. Itonly reaches position 97.

Flash 11-13: King Bruno Mars is back

Back at the top he is! After his performance live at TV show Wetten dass…? (Wanna bet that…?) on Saturday 20th March Bruno Mars sees grenade flying back to No. 1 disqualifying Lady Gaga’s Born This Way to the runner’s up position. The popular Saturday night show is still one of the most successful marketing tools in Germany. More than 9 millions were watching the recent issue – or 27,6 %. Just for comparison: DSDS the big casting event tumbled down last episodes to 18,7 %.

Another star of the show right now tops the album charts. As media control informs Herbert Grönemeyer lands his recent release Schiffsverkehr at No.1 in ist first chart week. Since 1984 all his album with original and new material topped the list – Schiffsverkehr is the ninth. Also Bruno Mars gets a album sale boost landing at No.2 with Doo-Wops & Hooligans.

The performance in the show

Bruno Mars is spending a fifth week at the top. He is by now the artist with most weeks at the top spot. Las track staying five weeks or longer was Over The Rainbow by Israel „IZ“ Kamakawiwo’ole which collected 12 weeks at the top at the back end of 2010. It was also the last track who managed to rebound to the top after falling down first. The last track taking a break of leading the list for more than one week was Satellite by Lena in spring last year.

Belgian singer MILOW is back with a new release. You And Me (In My Pocket) enters the German chart at No.3 and is the best new CD release of the week. It’s the artist’s second big hit here after his very acoustic ballade version of Ayo Technology went No.2 two years ago. You And Me (In My Pocket) continues in sound and success. The track combines the well known voice and guitar play with a midtempo rhythm making the record kind of a sing-a-long song. German Telekom realized that quality at first and uses the song for its marketing campaign Million Moments aired right now in German TV. Lucky MILOW – Germany is indeed the region where the new track reaches a top position …

German track invasion II

A chart week serving us with a few surprises. The biggest ones are told already. But there are still some more left. One of the most impressive chart runs finally ends up within the Top 10 this week. Martin Solveig + Dragonette lift up their Hello to #7. It is an unbelievable seven places jumps. The last weeks it was rising much softer – now the track ultimately catched fire. No wonder – you can hear the catchy hookline everywhere you go: in super markets, on the radio, on the streets … And the song is used within the recent commercial spot for the new Nokia E7 smartphone.

Internationally the track topped the charts in Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. And it went to #13 in the UK. In Germany it took the Canadian band and the remixing DJ full 19 weeks to reach their so far highest position. Meaning they entered the charts in November last year at an underrated #44.
The last track having such a long run to reach its peak was Alicia Keys’ solo take on Empire State Of Mind (Part II) Broken Hearted. It occupied #35 in its 21st chart week at the end of November last year.

The best CD release is done by Chris Brown. But Yeah 3x shows a pretty untypical chart move as it looses one place landing at #9. Usually a newly available CD issue boosts the sales summit. Probably we’re facing here a completely new kind of star, whose audience is more related to the digital use of music.

A look at the German tracks within this week’s list.
Allthough five of the ten new entries this week come from Germany there is on top nothing new. As the last two weeks Lena and her Eurovision track Taken by a Stranger is earning the crown for being the most sold German production. The track dips 7 – 8 … probably it will have its second rise when the big Eurovision show arrives. Also the runners up of the inofficial national list are holding place with decreasing sales: Milk&Sugar vs. Vaya Con Dios are with Hey (Nah Neh Nah) still the German #2 sliding down 13 – 14 meanwhile culcha candela’s Berlin City Girl as the third highest German track (and the first with German lyrics) moves 17 – 16.

The most successful new German production entering the charts this week comes from Jupiter Jones. The band exists already for nine years. They released four albums on the independent label Mathilda and Titus’ Tonträger. Last summer they signed a contract with Columbia Berlin /Sony. Now a new self titled album and a single Still (Silent) were released. It is a soft guitar rock song with a clear romantic note. The track enters the list at #32.

Bullmeister is a young trio originally based in Heidelberg now living in Berlin which offers fresh electro dance pop. Their song Girls Beautiful was chosen by TV channel Pro7 to promote the sixth season of Germany’s Next Top Model. The first episode was aired on 3rd March – one day later the CD was available. It enters the list now at #39. The show itself had caused bigger hits already.

One of the prototypes of German synthie sound is Alphaville. They released a second single from their comeback album Catching Rays On Giant. That album indeed is the second successfull release of the former trio. The released single did not have the massive impact other tracks of the band had. And so Song For No One also creeps only up to #50. Although Alphaville could count as one of the most influential bands in Germany the new single is only their 11th chart hit.

Video: MyVIdeo, the band’s homepage

The hope of German hiphop MARTERIA sets out a second attempt of entering the mainstream. Although the artist is recording tracks since years the commercial breakthrough came last summer first when his album Zum Glück in die Zukunft (For Happiness To The Future) was released by company Four Music. Leading track Verstrahlt (play on words for stoned / lucky also radiated) became a medium hit but different to the usual life of German hiphop tracks it was kind of a long seller entering the list again four months after its release. Sekundenschlaf (Microsleep) is the second release from the album. It is a collaboration with Peter Fox which merges dancehall-reggea-style with hiphop and pop. On this melange MARTERIA is reflecting about the shortness of life, the way of getting older, of passing by youth and the loss of wildness and dreams. Like a lot of German hiphop lyrics these are kind of depressiv and surrendering too. In difference to other artists MARTERIA does not believe in violence or hedonism as a solution. That very grounded attitude might be the reason why he is attractive for a lot of people – but not for typical hip hop fans.
Sekundenschlaf enters the list at #64 – in comparison to its predecessor it is very low down and will probably leave the charts very soon again.

Watch the video here.

A band still waiting for the big breakthrough is JENIX. They earned some publicity by touring with Silbermond and releasing together a charity single for Haiti in summer last year . The CD featured two cover songs by the bands – on that release Here We Go Again found its way to the charts for the first time. Now the original recording by JENIX was released again as a solo CD single. It enters the list at #95.

Carnival caused a small invasion of rising German tracks further down the chart this week. The biggest seasonal seller comes from Cologne band HÖHNER. (dialect for Chicks). Their Schenk mir dein Herz (Give Me Your Heart) jumps 53 – 33. It is a somehow new carnival hit as it was recorded in autumn 2009 and collected only 17 chart weeks so far.
Also No.2 on the list is a new one: entertainer and singer Mickie Krause offered in January his Schatzi, schenk mir ein Foto (Honey, Give Me A Photograph). It entered low down at #77 in its first week dipping in and out the charts the following weeks. Finally it becomes a medium hit jumping to #46 this week. It is the highest position for Mickie Krause since his FIFA world championchip related Orange trägt nur die Müllabfuhr (Only the refuse collection service is wearing orange) went to #31 in 2008.
Most successfull „classic“ carnival hit is So ein schöner Tag (Fliegerlied) (What a beautiful day – Song of the pilot). In 2008 the children song was released by Bavarian DONIKKL finding a lot of fans at Munich Oktoberfest and finally became a chart hit – there are several versions available, most popular became the one by Tim Toupet reaching position 6 in February 2009.
Finding its way back to the upper half of the German chart is caused not only by the regular carneval events. It had big support by the DSDS show (Germany’s version on Idols) featuring Après Ski Hits – which is very close to carnival hits. Marco Angelini performed the Fliegerlied. Well –the track sits pretty this week at #49 in its 50th chart week. It is the highest position since March 2010 – all versions together spent 76 weeks within the charts so far.

The DSDS show helped a lot of further tracks to a boosted chart performance. First of all the new #1 Born This Way by Lady Gaga is a direct effect of the show performance by Zazou Mall. Also the highest new entry Tonight by Enrique Iglesias feat. Ludacris & DJ Frank E had its airing. It was performed by Ardian Bujupi. The Norwegian duo MADCON sees their Freaky Like Me jumping back 17 places into the Top 20 after a performance of DSDS favourite Pietro Lombardi. It is the 16th week of the track and the highest position since beginning of January. And even the track spending most weeks within the German charts – Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt) (A Star – which is named after you) by DJ Ötzi & Nik P. – manages to reappear at #81 after a performance in the show.

TV is actually the most proper instrument to launch hits in Germany: DSDS, Germany’s Next Top Model … and since 4th March Die Ultimative Chart-Show also supply the masses with newer and older sounds. The latter one is a very special form: host Oliver Geissen is presenting the best hits under a chosen motto. The show started in 2003 and became very popular. Compilations on CD were released . On 4th March the 90th show was aired under the device „The most successful synthie pop hits“. Within the list and on stage performed Faithless their burner Insomnia which immediately also re-enters the chart at #41. It is the 52nd chart week of the track – counted all versions and remixes since 1997 together.

Looking at the German list sees two female artists entering who are not German but from the neighbourhood and worth be mentioned here as well:
The second song of German X Factor winner Edita from Switzerland comes three months after her first success. Meanwhile she changed her nameonly called by her first name right now. The sound did not change that much – very unspecific mainstream pop. The Key starts its chart life at #51.

And finally french singer ZAZ enters the German market. After Je Veux became a hit in France in May/June last year and later on in Belgium and Switzerland it is a now a new entry at #36 in Germany aussi.

Is there more than Lena?

Lena is not #1 – what a shame – scandal! … these were the headlines of some blogs watching the charts. Well – Lena was the main story in week 18th to 24th February. But YES – we do have a few other chart actions too.

First of all we do have 14 new tracks in the list plus 6 old tracks re-entering the chart. That is the most for this year at all – yeah! Finally the market is alive. 14 new tracks that’s a feat we saw last in November 2009 – you see, the music industry had a very long winter break. 20 tracks which where not listed a fortnight ago – well, we had it last time in June 2010. Almost a year ago. There is something going on.

One of the further actions takes place right at #5. That’s the place where Taio Cruz & Kylie land with their single Higher. It is the 11th chart week for the track which started end of December at a somehow low #10. I had a short story about the song a few weeks ago. At this time I was really convinced that the slow burning Higher was a result of weak or even no new releases. Now this argument doesn’t match anymore. Honestly I can’t find a reason why the song is rising continously: Higher sneaks in the Nielsen airplay charts around #21, well Kylie started her Aphrodite tour – but in Denmark ,no new mixes available … The track rises up the list nonetheless entering it’s highest rank so far this recent week. Taio Cruz now matches the result he got with his very first German chart hit Break Your Heart almost 10 months ago. Kylie now collects only her 4th top 5 single in Germany – and Higher is so far her second longest running top 10 hit beaten only by Can’t Get You Out Of My Head which spent 12 weeks inside the German top 10 in 2001/02.

Two tracks enter the German charts this week promoted by commercial TV spots. The first is Young Blood from New Zealandian The Naked and Famous used by German music TV channel VIVA to support their complete re-design in 2011. The second is A Night Light This from Dutch Caro Emerald known for its use in a commercial spot for Martini.

And finally the top 3 of German productions:
1. LenaTaken By A Stranger (#2)
2. Milk&Sugar vs. Vaya Con DiosHey (Nah Neh Nah) (#10)
3. culcha candelaBerlin City Girl (#14)
