July 1st 16: French Artists Invading the Top 3

This Girl by KUnGS vs. Cookin' On 3 Bruners spends a third week at the top of the German charts. Followed by another French act: IMANY. Who also got support by a second act. Don't Be So Shy became popular especially as the remix version by Russian DJ duo Filatov & Karas. By landing at #2 these two are the most successful Russian act since 2003. Back than t.A.T.u. had their #1 hit All THe Things She Said.

As David Guetta sits pretty at #3 with his UEFA EM hit This One's For You the whole top3 comes from French artists–a historical situation never seen before in German chart history.


It is again a more calm week on the charts. Biggest gainers are:
Ride by twentyøne piløts jumping 28 places to #34 in its third chart week
Kill Em With Kindness by Selena Gomez taking also 28 places to #61 in its second week
Wherever I Go by OneRepublic jumping 21 places to #52
Perfect Stranger by jonas Blue feat. JP. Cooper going 97–77

Highest new entry is Lieblingslied by German youtube stars Die Lochis. It is their seventh chart hit but the biggest demand seems to be history as their biggest hit peaking past summer at #29 in its first week.

After 68 consecutive weeks on charts Lean On by Major Lazer X DJ Snake Feat. Mø leaves the list. Longest running track now is Sugar by Robin Schulz feat. Francesco Yates spending at #91 an 50th week inside the list.

June 24th 16: Back To Normality

While the UEFA EM still goes on the first big rush of Euphoria is done and so the pre-EM #1 This Girl returns to the top. Usually the demand in football related songs rises as the championship approaches to the end. Of course it also depends on the performance of the German Mannschaft too. So far KUnGS vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners serves with the favourite tune of the moment.

One of the aspirants for next #1 is Mark Forster whose Wir sind gross is aired steadily around the matches and which rises 5-3, on the midweek charts already overtaken the official song This One's For You by David Guetta feat. Zara Larsson.

New arrival inside the top 10 is Don't Be So Shy by Imany which increases the number of French acts there up to three. In August 2011 we had that feat already–so French music has an impressive presence for more thn five year.
With Imany comes with a Comorian decent this week there are two artists with roots in Africa inside the top 10. The continent so far in chart history is really underrepresented. Sadly enough this current visibility will stand a short intermezzo for sure.

Longest running top 10 hit is again Cheap Thrills by SIA Feat. Sean Paul as it collects a 15th top ten week at #8 now.


Gainers of the week
Disturbed's take on Sound Of Silence starts taking up steam in Germany also. It lands in its third chart week at #49. And also The Ocean by Mike Perry Feat. Shy Martin takes a big leap of 50 places landing exactly in the middle of the list at #50 in its second week.
Gainer number 3 by rising 27 places is Ride by Twentyøne piløts which lands at #62. Simultaneously a next song enters the list. Heathens is a pre-release from the original soundtrack of Suicide Squad scheduled for August. The song already now sits pretty at #83.


Highest new entry
In the middle of the list there was a battle going on about which track is the highest new entry. Winner of the duel is Dark Necessities by Red Hot Chili Peppers that lands at #47. Technically it is a re-entry as the song already had a chart sneak in on May 13th this year at #84. So one might count as the highest real new entry Duele el Corazon the new single by Enrique Iglesias. Featured artist Wisin ends with his appearance a more than 10 years long abstinence from the German charts. In 2005/06 he had a nine weeks run alongside R. Kelly on Burn It Up.

German productions
The number of German productions and songs in German still decreases. It stands now at a level of 15 productions and 13 in German which is frankly spoken still a good level compared to the whole chart history. Of course the past months the situation was slightly different as we had exactly a year ago numbers that are double as big. And at the end of 2015 we had 52 productions involving Germans and 41 songs in German.

A similar situation is seen if we have a look on the European level. Only 59 productions involving Europeans. This situation is supported also by the weak performance of British acts. Only 14 of 100 songs including a British participation–does Britain tries the Brexit also on popmusical field?

June 10th 16: KUnGS goes #1

What a surprise! On the midweek charts Can't Stop The Feeling by JT still ruled the list–at the end of the week This Girl by Australian Cookin' On 3 Burners remixed by French KUnGS is the top selling song of the week. The song reaches #1 in its eighth chart week which is a very common time for the past months.

With KUnGS entering the top there ends a one and a half year abstinence of French acts at the German top. Back in 2014 astonishing four french productions reached the top. The Australian band is already the second act from the island continent this year. Back in 2010 two Australian acts topped the charts in one calendar year in the face of Empire Of The Sun and Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP.
Australian predecessor SIA by the way sits pretty at #4 with Cheap Thrills which gives us a situation with the four top ranks are occupied by #1 hits.

Two songs enter the top 10 for the first time. At #7 Alle Farben feat. YOUNOTUS stands coming from #16. Please Tell Rosie already is the third consecutive top 10 hit for Alle Farben–well there is a next German DJ on the way of becoming a beloved producer. This week he grabs the crown of being the best selling German act of the week outselling the highest new entry by one place.
At #8 German hiphop trio Beginner is back after more than 11 years. With Ahnma the trio has its first top10 hit waiting for it more than 17 years. Member Jan Delay already has some experience as solo artist plus a #1 appearance as part of the German Ban Aid at the end of 2014. Featured artist Gzuuz past week had his big breakthrough. His 10th entry is his highest chart appearance for now.

Of course the official EURO2016 anthem This One's For You by David Guetta Feat. Zara Larsson starts rising steadily. It reaches #19 this issue.

Highest gainer of the week is Don't Be So Shy by Imany. The song jumps 32 places to #31. 21 places up is the result for Holland by 257ers. The song stops at #46. Breathe by seeb feat. Neev takes an 18 places leap to #58 and at #75 EGO by Willy William lands after an 24 places leap.


New inside the German charts Austrian no.1 song Sound Of Silence by Disturbed is. Here it starts at #82 and probably will rise the next weeks.


Again the list contains only 14 productions including British acts. It is indeed a weak presence which might be hardly found in whole history of pop music.
