In seven days time we know what Germany loves to listen to at Christmas.With this week at #1 Ed Sheeran establish himself as the artist appearing at #1 in 2017 most. It is the 18th week–so he also is the best performing #1 act of the whole decade. Only Justin Bieber might be taken as more successful if one count his appearance on Despacito as full performance.
18 weeks at #1 in one calendar year–it's a feat last seen in 1978 when Boney M. collected 19 weeks with to #1 hits.
2017 definitely was the year of German rap. The past two weeks came from German rap acts too. This week the best new album comes again from a rap star although it is an USAmerican veteran. EMINEM is back at #2 with his latest offering Revival. As best selling single track from the collection the collaboration with Ed Sheeran River shoots to #3 on the songs list. It is the fourth top 10 song for the British singer in 2017 and the fourth reaching #3 or higher. EMINEM meanwhile collected 17 top 10 hits.
Raf Camora's album Anthrazit RR now is available for free–as leading single track Gotham City invades the list at #9 as paid download/stream alone. Part 1 of the album again goes 63–29 in its 17th chart week.
Back to real Christmas songs. All I Want For Christmas Is You and Last Christmas still leading the seasonal list at #5 and #11. At #20 a third new classic tune lands with Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming) by Melanie Thornton. It is the first time since 2008/09 that the song can achieve top20 status. Now it spends its 108th week inside the list.
15 years after it first appeared in the list Driving Home For Christmas by Chris Rea achieves a new peak at #22. It is one place better than its peak two years ago. The song already gets its 47th chart week.
Eight places higher than last season Merry Christams Everyone by Shakin' Stevens lands. The song reaches its new peak at #30 32 years after it first appeared on the list. Although it is a slightly young classic tune as it enters the list regularly since 2015 only–so it spent so far seven weeks inside the charts.
A real new time classic is It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas recorded by Canadian Michael Bublé. The song had its peak so far two years ago by getting to #49. This year it already reaches #48–and there are still some days to sell.
At #54 Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney reaches a new peak. The song recorded in 1979 started charts life last year and now spends its fourth week inside the list.
Also Britney Spears celebrates a new peak for her Christmas song My Only Wish (This Year). It is the third consecutive year that it appears in the charts and it is the third consecutive year it reaches a peak–currently #81.
With only 60 productions involving Europeans the continent is as weak present on the survey as in July 2016 when only 58 productions with Europeans were listed.
December 15th 17: Raf Camora vs. Azet
It is the second week for Perfect by Ed Sheeran (feat. Beyoncé) holding firm at #1. In 2017 it is the 17th week at #1 for the singer. It matches the result of Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee.Highest new entry comes in at #6. It is the pre-release for RAF CAMORA's sequel album Anthrazit RR called Sag nix. It is the third top10 hit for the rapper in 2017 alone–not bad at all although Kollegah & Farid Bang have six top 10 entries in 2017. Might be consolation seeing RAF CAMORA as the artist with most chart entries in 2017 with 29 different tracks. Kollegah & Farid Bang only made 21 tracks charting in 2017.
Two places behind Azet lands with Gjynah. It is his second top 10 hit and his sixth chart entrie at all. Raf Camora started similarly a year ago. So one might witness an upcoming megastar here.
Third song entering the top10 is Wham! with Last Christmas. The song spends its fifth week inside–with its fourth run. Last year it peaked at #7.
December 8th 17: Sheeran Or Kollegah?
The year 2017 started with a huge impact by Ed Sheeran. Later on the singer set some chart records by releasing his album Divide. This week he manifests his status as most successful artist of 2017 by letting his song Perfect fly to #1. The final kick to get there came by the release of duet version with Beyoncé. We already know that effect from most selling single 2017 Despacito that was a hit already but became #1 after an additional release with extra star appearance. In the UK and the US the new track really is credited on the official list–the German survey still works with different rules so at #1 only Ed Sheeran is credited.It is the second #1 for the British singer. Hidden accompanying Beyoncé as well gets her second #1 appearance. Her one and only #1 song so far dates back more than 10 years. In 2007 she occupied #1 for a single week dueting with Shakira on Beautiful Liar. Even her last top 10 appearance from 2010 was a duet: Telephone with Lady Gaga.
Although Ed Sheeran seems to be untouchable he ain't. As Kollegah & Farid Bang launch their album Jung Brutal Gutaussehend 3 and invade the song charts with tracks from this album. Highest one is Ave Maria at #5 followed by Rap wieder Rap at #7 and Es wird Zeit at #8. It is only the second time that an act launches three simultaneous new entries inside the top 10. In 2010 it was Lena who managed that feat first. Her appearance still is better as she started at #1, 3 and 4.
With six top10 hits in one calendar year the rap duo now ranks alongside David Guetta who did so in 2011 already.
Even better the performance inside the top20 is. Kollegah & Farid Bang launch eight hits there. It also boosts the statistic of German productions to an amount of ten–the best result in 2017–nine of them are in German which is a feat not seen since decades.
The first Christmas tunes arrived past week. Now the seasonal impact is much bigger. Still leading the list is All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey which goes 37–9 adding a third top10 week to its account.
Second best selling Christmas single is Last Christmas by Wham! from 1984. It goes 52–14 in its 126th chart week.
Ten further Christmas related songs re-appearing inside the list. These plus the 15 new entries by Kollegah & Farid Bang makes this recent list the one with the biggest turnover of songs in 2017: 31 songs of the survey were not listed the week before. It is the biggest change since May 2014 and even more as the list of August 1989 when the top75 changed into the top 100.
December 1st 17: BAUSA Is Most Successful German Rap Act
These are the last five weeks of 2017. Most of the best selling and record breaking feats are done. Anyway these weeks can serve with some surprises. Let's start with #1:
It is BAUSA's eigth week at the top with Was du Liebe nennst which means that he is now the German hiphop act with most weeks at #1 at all. Sido so far only has seven weeks at #1 under his belt.
Now the question is: Will Bausa manage to be #1 at Christmas time too?
Equipped with an official (commercial) video clip now Justin Bieber + Bloodpop make a jump back inside the top 10. Friends lands at #4 and reaches a new peak after it already spent 14 weeks on the survey. It is only the second top10 week for the song.
Highest new entry sits at #7 in the face of German Youtube star Katja Krasavice. Her chart debut is Doggy.
With Nico Santos going 27–14 it is the highest appearance for a Spanish artist within a year. Although the singer is also German the success of Rooftop probably is more a home made thing.

November 24th 17: Bausa's No1 Song Becomes Longest Running Since 10 Years
Believe it or not: Was du Liebe nennst by BAUSA spends a seventh week at #1 and is now the longest running #1 song in German since early 2008 when project Schnuffel with Kuschel Song invaded the top for eight weeks. Azzi Memo is the latest sign on Haftbefehl's label Generation Azzlacks. He now launches his first single hit with AMG2. The collaboration with Nemo lands directly at #8 and is the best performing Azzlack single so far.
Second new top10 song is Let You Down by USAmerican rapper NF. So six songs of the top 10 are USAmerican productions.
With Señorita dropping 9–12 longest running top 10 hits are now Rockstar Post Malone feat. 21 Savage at #4 and Dusk Till Dawn by ZAYN ft. SIA at #5 with nine weeks.
Further new sounds inside the top 20 are the latest offering by UFO361 Tiffany that enters the list at #15 and gives the rapper his highest appearance so far. At #18 Sam Smith lands. To Good At Goodbyes is his first appearance that high since two years. It achieves that position in its 11th chart week.
Only a few days on air/online the new Telekom commercial with Justin Bieber causes an increasing demand for the song Friends (officially credited to Bloodpop too). The song bounces back 39–20 after it was listed for six weeks outside.
