December 1st 17: BAUSA Is Most Successful German Rap Act

These are the last five weeks of 2017. Most of the best selling and record breaking feats are done. Anyway these weeks can serve with some surprises. Let's start with #1:
It is BAUSA's eigth week at the top with Was du Liebe nennst which means that he is now the German hiphop act with most weeks at #1 at all. Sido so far only has seven weeks at #1 under his belt.
Now the question is: Will Bausa manage to be #1 at Christmas time too?

Equipped with an official (commercial) video clip now Justin Bieber + Bloodpop make a jump back inside the top 10. Friends lands at #4 and reaches a new peak after it already spent 14 weeks on the survey. It is only the second top10 week for the song.

Highest new entry sits at #7 in the face of German Youtube star Katja Krasavice. Her chart debut is Doggy.

With Nico Santos going 27–14 it is the highest appearance for a Spanish artist within a year. Although the singer is also German the success of Rooftop probably is more a home made thing.


As this is the first list of December there are of course some classic Christmas songs back on the list. First of all All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey from 1994 re-appears at #37. It is the 13th chart run for that song–only once it started its seasonal career higher. That was back in 1994 when it jumped to #34 after a week dropping completely out off the top100.
Also Last Christmas by Wham! is back. It started its 22nd chart run at #52. So far the song collected 125 chart weeks–it is the second most all times. Plus right now the British duo is the longest running chart act still selling songs with almost 35 years. Runners up are Die Toten Hosen with a little more than 29 years. Of course the latter one still recording songs.

Certainly a lot more Christmas tunes will invade the list and change the face of the charts rapidly. So let's have a look at the classics right now. Longest running hit inside the top 100 still is Ohne mein Team by Bonez MC Raf Camora Feat. Maxwell. In its 65th chart week the track sits pretty at #72. It now ranks inside the top 20 of longest consecutively running hits of all time.
Second longest running recent hit is Shape Of You by Ed Sheeran that gains five places again at #27 in its 47th week.
And also hit of the year Despacito is one of the long runners with 44 weeks at #41.

After ten years of chart abstinence Craig David is back at #92. His new single I Know You Features band Bastille.

Oct 23rd 15:

Astronaut by Sido Feat. Andreas Bourani spends a seventh week at the top and is now the second longest nr.1 in 2015. Only Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) by Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson so far performed better with eight consecutive weeks at the very top.

LOUANE rises two further places to #4 with Avenir. It is only the second top5 hit with a French act involved in 2015. So far only DJ Snake had an appearance accompanied by Major Lazer on the #4 hit Lean On. The last pure French production inside the top5 was seen exactly a year ago with #1 hit Fade Out Lines by The Avener. The last top 5 hit in French belongs to Belgian stromae and his #1 alors on danse from spring 2010.


OMI sees his second hit Hula Hoop entering the top20. Again the success for the singer is heavily supported by various remixes of his song. #13 is where the track stops right now.

Oct 16th 15: Michael Jackson Back in Top 5

Indeed Sido Feat. Andreas Bourani hold firm for another week at the top with Astronaut. It is the sixth week at all and it seems that the duo will soon do something that was not seen for a long time. Actually Astronaut right now is the best performing song in German since early 2008 when stupid character Schnuffel had an eight week run at #1 with Kuschel Song.

At runners up position Glasperlenspiel lands. Geiles Leben now is far and away the most successful single of the band.
At #5 another rising song stops. Sigala's Easy Love also has prospects for reaching the heights of Astronaut in next weeks time. For now it brings King of Pop Michael Jackson a first top5 appearance since 1997. Back than it was Blood On The Dancefloor that stopped exactly at #5.

New inside the top10 French LOUANE is. Her Avenir stops at #6 in its 11th chart week at all.

A next top 20 hit for Swedish AVICII stops at #18 in the face of For A Better Day. It is already the seventh chart week for the song.
SDP Feat. Adel Tawil have their song Ich will nur dass du weißt already 11 weeks on the survey. This week the single goes for the first time inside the top 20 too and sits at #19.
Also Ellie Goulding manages it going top20 with On My Mind. She only took four chart weeks.

On the way up
The best gainers are Lunchmoney Lewis with a 66–45 leap for Whip It in its fourth chart week and Zara Larsson with Lush Life that goes 71–50.
Further significant moves come from KYGO Feat. Ella Henderson 52–47 with Here For You sixth chart week.
Jess Glynne 56–48 Don't Be So Hard On Yourself seventh week.
Sarah Connor 77–67 Bedingungslos second week.
CRO 93–73 Melodie third chart week
Shawn Mendes 86–74 Stitches second week

Once again the highest new entry comes in on a very low position. Ausländer by rapper MERT starts chart life at #63.

Sept 28th 15: Boring week

There are weeks missing completely a spectacular story. Weeks that confirm what was state seven days ago. Such is this.

Sido Feat. Andreas Bourani spend a third week at the very top with Astronaut. Coinscidently the last track spending three weeks at #1 did it with same figure: One sole week as a beginning and later a returning with two weeks. I speak of Sugar by Robin Schulz Feat. Francesco Yates
The last song in German holding firm for three weeks came from CRO and was Bye Bye in July this current year.

The only new song inside the top10 rises softly two places to #9. It is the title track of the enormously successful German movie Fack ju Göhte 2 which already had three million viewers in nine days. The song is called Wild & Free and comes by the like of LENA. It is her sicth Top 10 hit within five years–so she is the most successfull German female of this current decade.

Highest new entry comes in at #26. It is the new offering by Ellie Goulding called On My Mind.

Let's have a look further down the list. At #41 there lands in its 6th chart week Marvin Gaye by Charlie Puth Feat. Meghan Trainor. The former British nr.1 single only slowly catches fire in Germany.
AVICII's latest offering For A Better Day goes 57–42 in its 4th chart week and The Weeknd sees his The Hills rise to a new peak at #44 in its 15th chart week.
Another climber comes in at #46 in the face of OMI and his Hula Hoop which for the first time ranks over predecessor and #1 hit Cheerleader.

August 14th 15: Sido's first #1

The charts are speeding up with a straight #1 single that relegates Sugar by Robin Schulz (feat. Francesco Yates) as the runners up. It is Sido who gets a straight shot to the top with his second single taken from upcoming album VII. Astronaut is the very first #1 for the rapper–so it took him complete 11 years and four months to get there. He is of course in good company with Die Ärzte, Rosenstolz, Adel Tawil, PUR and Rammstein. They all had to work wait for 10 to 12 years before they challenged the singles chart crown as a #1 act. Herbert Grönemeyer in fact did much longer. Full 18 years from his first chart entry until he set up a #1 hit. That's a tough thing.

Sido did come twice very close to the very top. In 2010 he stopped at #2 with Der Himmel soll warten (feat. Adel Tawil), in 2014 he accompanied Mark Forster on his Au Revoir which also stopped at the runners up position. Also on Rammstein Sido had some support. It is Germany's new singer darling Andreas Bourani who serves with his voice for the refrain. It is his second #1 as lone standing act–in December 14 he also joined the German Baind Aid project which also had a #1 run. Returning to #1 makes him the third #1 act of 2014 that can repeat this success in 2015. We truly witness a constance in sympathies right now.

With the arrival of Sido + Andreas Bourani there are seven entries inside the top 10 coming from Germany and four of them are in German. Inside the top 20 there are 10 German productions seven sung in German. That's quite e strong performance.


Further action inside the Top10 is minimal. Namika climbs two places with Lieblingsmensch to #4 and Calvin Harris enters #10 with his new single How Deep Is Your Love which is his fifth track entering the top 10.

The oldest song inside the Top 10 is Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) by Felix Jaehn Feat. Jasmine Thompson that spends an 18th week there. It is now as long lasting as predecessor Cheerleader remixed by Felix Jaehn–so far the two top 10 singles with most extended run in 2015.


First big climber comes in at #14. El Perdón by Nicky Jam rises 20 ranks and gives accompanying Enrique Iglesias his highest chart entry since four years. At #20 finally Flo Rida comes in rising four further places. I Don't Like It I Love It already spends its tenth week inside the list. Now it gives featured Robin Thicke his second top20 entry at all. So far he only had a big hit with #1 Blurred Lines in 2013.

At #42 the new remix of Insomnia stops. Reworked by AVICII original act Faithless has its highest performance since March 2011.

On the album list German DJ Paul Kalkbrenner celebrates its first #1 7. Tracks from the album Cloud Rider and Feed Your Head profit from the start of the long player as they rise 55–40 resp. 99–53.

28th of March 2014:

It is MR PROBZ again who takes the No.1 crown with his hit Waves. It is the third week for the track on the sunny place which makes it the most succesfull Dutch production since 15 years. At the very end of 1998 it was Loona who had her second number 1 single Hijo De La Luna spending three weeks at the top too.

Waves at the top also gives us a third number 1 in a row that at least spent three weeks on the top. Exactly one year ago we had that situation for last time. Back than it was Rihanna’s Diamonds that had a 10 weeks run in Dezember followed by will.i.am & Britney Spears and their Scream & Shout (9 weeks) and Passenger’s Let Her Go (5 weeks).



After their fulminant victory on the German national final to the Eurovision Song Contest and a full week on sale Is It Right by Elaiza storms the Top 10. The song lands at number 4 which is the fifth consecutive year that the national entry can reach the top 10. Such a success (or call it euphoria) wasn’t never seen before.
Also song number two performed on the show (and recorded on the EP) Fight Against Myself can gain some chart success. Number 50 is the place it sits pretty this week. At the very end of the list even the upcoming single Without appears. That's what I call success.

Other national finalists climb up the list too after a full week of sales. The runners up UNHEILIG sees his second song staged live on the show Wir sind alle wie eins jumping 71–29 (the leading entry Als wär’s das erste Mal vicecersa collapses 10–25)
Third on the show Cotton Candy Hurricane by MarieMarie goes 75–39, second song Candy Jar comes in at 82. Second act on place 3 Santiano only enters number 69 with Fiddler On The Deck. Well, it is the highest rank the band can achieve in the singles charts ever. On the album list it already has two number 1 hits under its belt.




In its 15th week on sale Liebe by Sido enters the top 20. It started chart life with the release of the album 30-11-80 back in December. Than it sneaked around the list raising slowly to a medium hit and two weeks ago finally had its release as a proper CD single. Number 16 is the result so far for that song.

At number 38 an act celebrates its 25th anniversary with its 25th chart entry titled 25. It’s Die Fantastischen Vier that worked so hard for this sensational constellation. Their first chart entry was in September 1992 when Die da?! started to become one of their biggest success till today.

Without a proper release as a single Sean Paul’s Hey Baby climbs up the list. This week the track lands at number 47 and it’s right on the way to become the artist’s next hit.

On sale but overseen for some weeks Enrique Iglesias Ft. Pitbull finally raise some awareness. I'm A Freak goes 89–56 this week. Still far away from the levels both acts perform usually. Even the production team of The Cataracs is used to rank in higher regions.

Released as a proper CD single Weinen by Adel Tawil manages to reach number 57. Well, also this artist usually collects Top 10 positions. Maybe the fact that an unofficial remix by Roy Jones can attract much more people than the original mixes causes the weak chart position. Why spending money for a boring track if there is another around with much more appeal (and for no money)?

It is the third chart run for A Little Party Never Killed Nobody by Fergie + Q-Tip + Goonrock. The track now climbs to number 67 again in its 36th chart week. In early summer 2013 it peaked at number 10. Is this new demand for the song caused by the fresh mothership of Fergie or its misfortune on the Oscars?

Scheduled for a release as single track on 28th of March Down By The River by German new super darlings Milky Chance climbs already up the charts weeks before. This issue it stands at number 68 as an album cut.

Beginning of April Rebecca Ferguson tours througout Germany. In anticipation of this event the demand in her last single Light On raises again. The track re-enters at number 86.

Deep House probably will accompany us for 2014. The next act coming from Germany is Parra for Cuva ft. Anna Naklab. The DJ (+ singer) took the classic tune from Chris Isaak to rework it in a dance/lounge style. The result can enter the charts after a month on sale. The original recording took a long way to its hiatus too. Recorded in the late 80s it became a hit with its use in David Lynch's movie Wild at Heart in 1990. Number 9 in Germany was the result more than 20 years ago.



After 84 weeks inside the charts Sonnentanz by Austrian duo Klangkarussell is now the track with the third longest consecutive chart appearance. This current week it eclipses the result of Adele's Rolling In The Deep from 2010. Only Geboren um zu leben (94 weeks) by UNHEILIG and Heavy Cross by Gossip (96 weeks) spent more consecutive weeks on the list.

17th of January 2014: Happy goes No.1

The new year’s laziness is gone: Germany has got a new No.1. And what kind of. Like in half of the world Pharrell Williams’ Happy goes to the Top here also. Within eight months Pharrell is listed at the very top for the third time. Such a feat was last seen in 2009/10 when Lady Gaga had three Nr.1 hits within seven months. These three Top hits charted consecutively – so he follows directly the series of hits launched by German Tokio Hotel in 2006/07.

Reaching the Top by climbing 8 places sounds quite spectacular. The books will tell you that only one year and three months ago another song did so. It was famous Gangnam Style by Korean PSY. That track surprisingly had a mere three-weeks-career at the Top although the time span strains over three complete months.

At number 3 Ed Sheeran comes in with his song for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’s end title. Five million people watched the movie in Germany alone – no surprise I See Fire also becomes a hit.


The brilliant Of the Night re-recorded by BASTILLE slowly takes fire and goes 52–26 which gives the band its third Top40 hit within 9 months. The song ultimately is one of the better words spoken in the 90s revival. Probably that period will finally fade away.

Gangster Rap–especially coming from Germany–still has a market here. Next generations star Farid Bang starts his new single Bitte Spitte Toi Bang at number 32 as the highest new entry. It is the second highest entry for him since he appeared first in the list around two years ago. Though none of his tracks spent more than two weeks inside the charts. So it is still a narrow scenery that adores him.

The US-American version of a young rap hope is Kid Ink. Right now he gots some more attention in Germany too. His album My Own Lane enters the album list right at number 12 in its first week. So three different tracks sneak in the list right now the highest stopping at number 36 in the face of Show Me–the absolut peak for the young artist in Germany. MTV featured him on its Push serial at the very beginning of the year. Well-this guy must be taken as an upcoming record star for sure.


German Revolverheld heavily promotes its new single Ich lass für dich das Licht an by launching a Story of the video clip. It's about the proposal of one of the band members to his long year girlfriend. The very romantic story touches a lot of people, so the song already jumps 90–38 without having the video released (13th of January) and a month before the new single mixes are released.

Romance is a big topic under Germany's youth. Sido's last album is full with lyrics of its kind. One of the most obvious is Liebe which reaches number 43 this week which is the best result for that track so far.


Featured by the 30th anniversary of TV channel RTL British singer Rebecca Ferguson whitnesses the hiatus of her career in Germany so far by Light On landing at number 40. It isn't the real breakthrough for sure.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis already have their fourth hit entering the upper half of the German charts. White Walls climbs to number 41 in its second chart week.


At the lower end of the charts first signs of upcoming Après Ski season are significant. The official start has taken place on prime time TV at Sat.1 on Januar 7th with a big show. One of the hits of the season for sure is Rock Mi by Bavarian voXXclub. The song actually rises 82–62 in its 12th chart week. It already reached number 44 back in October.


This current week is the third consecutive week that BEYONCÉ can enter with a new track. This time it is XO that lands at number 83. All three tracks sneaked around that area and disappeared after a single week. Real hits look different I guess.

Hot Spot 12-13-13

No change at the Top: Still it is Jubel by French Klingande that finds the most buyers. It is the 7th week at the Top for the hit. Follow up tune Changes by Faul & Wad Ad climbs to number 5. Featured Pnau becomes the most successful Australian act since SIA featured by David Guetta last time one year ago.

Timber by Pitbull Feat. KE$HA rises a single place to number 3 which is the highest rank for the rapper since May 2011 when Give Me Everything followed on number 2 after his number 1 appearance with J.LO on the hit On The Floor. Additionally he now overtakes Mr. Flo Rida and is the act appearing third most inside the German Top 10 this current decade–right hinter Rihanna and David Guetta.

Released on CD single Atemlos durch die Nacht by Helene Fischer takes a 18 places leap to number 13. It is this the highest position the singer ever reached with her 10 charting songs.

Still available on more independent platforms only Tsunami by DVBBS & Borgeous reaches the Top 20 and sits pretty at number 18.

The slump of British music goes on. Only two productions from the Kingdom are inside the Top 20. Highest track still is Bonfire Heart by James Blunt–written and produced by USAmerican Ryan Tedder


Christmas is approaching heavily. Songs and tunes celebrating the holy time climbing up the list as usual. First of all still Wham!'s Last Christmas is leading the pack at number 32.


Artist of the week is German rapper Sido. His album 30-11-80 goes directly to number 1 in the album list. Leading single Einer dieser Steine still sits inside the Top 10. Most cherry picked track of the collection is Arbeit featuring Helge Schneider. It lands at number 33.

Hot Spot 02-01-13

will.i.am &Britney Spears hang on a third week at Number 1. Britney now matches the success of her predecessor number 1 Lucky in 2000.

Icona Pop Feat. Charli XCX rise to number 3 making I Love It the most successful Swedish production since number 1 hit I Follow Rivers.

Sido goes 8–5 with In meinem Kopf which gives him a Top 5 hit for the third time in his career.

On Tour in Germany, Number 1 in Austria – CRO makes a 14–8 leap with Einmal um die Welt and reaches a new peak with this song. It is already the 24th chart week which makes the song the slowest climber since Ma Chérie reached its peak at number 6 in May last year.

Linkin Park’s Castle Of Glass still two weeks ahead the full release on CD enters the Top 10 – it is the fourth Top 10 hit of the band and follows the number 2 song Burn It Down which re-enters at number 93.


This week we do have 12 new entries and 11 re-entries – meaning it is the biggest turnover of that young year so far. So the charts get back to the speed they had at the end of 2012.

The most present artist of 2012 is starting the new year: Pitbull delivers the highest new entry with Feel This Moment at number 12. It is his 21st charting track in this decade and the 25th at all. His partner on the song Christina Aguilera also counts 25 chart hits with this entry and now spends 15 consecutive years inside the German charts. The single itself will be available on CD from February 22nd on.

With the success of Ellie Goulding’s Lights the label scheduled a re-release of the single CD for February 15th. This week the song rises 26–19 and probably this track will become her first Top 10 hit on German shores.

Also worth mentioning Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz reach the Top 20 with Thrift Shop. The song still isn’t signed to a label and sells directly from the artist’s platform. That’s unbelievable and probably shows what will happen in a few years within the whole music business.

Finally Nicki Minaj’s Va Va Voom catches fire and reaches the upper half of the list.

After her performance on Wetten dass… Leona Lewis is back in the list with her last hit Trouble. So far it spent only five weeks inside the list. That’s poor for a star like Leona Lewis is.
Caligola adds one more week to the summit of its Forgive Forget after performing at the show. Now the track counts 20 chart weeks.

Rita Ora’s How We Do (Party) spends rising the last week on digital sales only . The track reaches now number 40.

Used at Dschungelcamp Philipp Poisel returns to the list with Ich will nur. It is only the fourth chart week and number 41the second highest place it ever reached.
Promoted by that success also Wie soll ein Mensch das ertragen returns to the list. The album Project Seerosenteich just reached gold status selling 100.000 copies.

AVICII VS Nicky Romero steadily rising. They reach number 44 in their third week in the list.

The release of the Django unchained soundtrack helps three songs into the list as solo tracks. First of all Anthony Hamilton can enter the survey withFreedom at number 55. Further down the list we also find the main title Django by Luis Bacalov, Rocky Roberts (by the way one of the very few Argentinian musicians who can enter the German list). And finally at number 100 there is Rick Ross with 100 Black Coffins.

The album of Kollegah & Farid Bang Jung, Brutal, Gutaussehend 2 is scheduled for February 8th. Till now there are four tracks released before. Number 4 Stiernackenkommando enters teh list this week.

A complete week after releasing the album LONG.LIVE.A$AP fully the artist’s single F**kin’ Problems returns back to the singles charts and reaches a new peak with number 86.

Carnival season is at the door: Mickie Krause sneaks through the list. Two weeks ago his Nur noch Schuhe an visited the survey at number 99 now it re-enters at 90. The peak of the song was back in August last year at number 32.

Second Nr. 1 week for will.i.am feat. Britney Spears

Three Swedish acts are gainer to the top end:
Icona Pop enters the Top 10 after Coca Cola launched the TV campaign on January 14th.
The Swedish House Mafia becomes a Top 10 act with their last single Don’t You Worry Child and full 17 weeks in the list. (It is the second Top 10 hit for member Steve Angello whose production of Taio Cruz’s Troublemaker was Nr.6 in 2011.)
Otto Knows enters the Top 20 with Million voices.
All in all there are three Swedish acts inside the Top 20.

Sido is getting a fourth Top 10 hit after releasing In meinem Kopf as CD single.

And it is the week in which Flo Rida sums up more weeks inside the German Top 10 (68 weeks) than Robbie Williams


Upcoming singles rising
Linkin Park enter the Top 20 with Castle Of Glass still three weeks before the track is released on CD single. It is the 12th single that can reach German Top 20 and the biggest hit since Burn It Down hit number 2 in May past year.

Still not on CD Rihanna's next single Stay rises and reaches the upper half of the list.

Rita Ora's single How We Do (Party) is scheduled for 25th January to be released on CD. Since late December the track sneaks through the list now reaching its highest position so far at number 57.

New in the list also: One Direction with Kiss You scheduled for release on CD for 8th February 2013.



Niggas in Paris by JAY-Z & Kanye West finally becomes a hit in Germany as well. In its 18th chart week and more than half a year since the song was first listed inside the charts it rises to number 40. The reason for this late success still is not known.

Kollegah & Farid Bang launch their third chart inside within 6 weeks. The new one is Du kennst den Westen.

Danish Lukas Graham is on tour in Germany – the single Drunk In The Morning rises again.



DSDS the next season
In the second show on 9th January Tim David performed I Won't Let You Go by James Morrison. The original song reaches the Top 50.
The show on 12th January presented Wincent Weiß – obviously a hot candidate for the win. He performed Halt dich an mir fest which brings the original by Revolverheld back in the charts. It is already the 48th week for the track which makes it the most successful single of the German band.


January 12th German schlager star Andrea Berg celebrated her 20th show anniversary on TV. More than 6 million people watched the show. Most succesfull guest of the show: Andreas Gabalier. His I sing a Liad für di bounces back up the charts to number 49 in it's 47th chart week.
She herself sees her hit Du hast mich tausendmal belogen entering the list for the very first time. It is only her third single gaining a place in the survey.

Third winner of British X-Factor enters the list in Germany: James Arthur.

Four years after its release Heads Will Roll by Yeah Yeah Yeahs can enter the list in Germany. It is the very first track of the band inside the German charts.


Dschungelcamp Effect
Having Silva Gonzalez in the Dschungelcamp is the (probably last) chance for his project Hot Banditoz of having a last hit. Get Down On The Floor enters at number 76. It is the first charting track since September 2007. Their biggest success was back in 2003 the single Veo Veo, climbing to number 3.

More successfully the title track Troublemaker by Olly Murs feat. Flo Rida climbs to number 3. And at the very lower end Sex On Fire again clings on in the list as it is used as a main theme for candidate Olivia Jones. By the way Sex On Fire now charts for the 14th time – it is one of the most loved songs in casting shows and always can make it into the charts after a performance. I would call it a classic tune.



Another act absent from the charts for a long time but very successful with concerts and tours is Max Raabe. Due to the release of his album Für Frauen ist das kein Problem the title track finally can enter the list at the lower quarter. It is nothing more than his second chart hit on the singles list. The predecessor charted back in 2006.

Back after a 19 years absence Scottish band The Proclaimers see its I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) re-entering the list. The song was used in TV serials as How I Met Your Mother and in the movie The Angels' Share which made it very popular the last months again.


Johannes Oerding from Hamburg released his album Für immer ab jetzt on 11th January. The track Nichts geht mehr is the favourite of the cherry picking audience and enters number 82 after a performance at girlfriend Nina Müller's show. – His second single Einfach nur weg from last November also appears for a single week in the charts again.


Funny statistics at the end: German CRO after a year inside the charts reaches the Top 20 of most charted artists in this decade. He now has 138 weeks under his belt. – The number one since 1.1.2000 is David Guetta with 546 weeks (+ a few more where he acted as silent producer in the background). Best German act so far is culcha candela collecting 241 weeks – which is rank number 9.

05-12: German Dark Pop, Hard Pop & Hip Hop

After two weeks at the runner’s up position football related Nooosssaa! Ai Se Eu Te Pego by Brazilian Michel Teló can gain the chart crown. It took the track eight weeks to become the most sold single in Germany. It probably is connected with the start of the second half of the Bundesliga that had its first match on January 20th.
Michel Teló is the first artist from Brazilia to reach number 1 in Germany.

The list is speeding up. There are 15 new entries inside. That’s a feat las seen late November past year.

The highest new entry is a download only single. Finally a major company has the beef promoting two British super acts in Germany too. I’m talking ’bout Olly Murs feat. Rizzle Kicks and their hit Heart Skips A Beat. Both are big names in the UK – why did SONY wait so long marketing they to continental Europe? Anyway – Heart Skips A Beat seems to be the first huge hit for 2012. The proper CD release is scheduled for right now.

New in the Top 10 and finally becoming really stars The BossHoss harvest their media presence on the show The Voice of Germany. As coaches and part of the jury they presented actual single Don’t Gimme That on January 20th. As an effect the song jumps 18–8 and it is the very first single climbing that high. Of course The BossHoss grab the crown of being the best sold German act this week.



Following the appearance of German productions culcha candela just misses out the Top 10–their Wildes Ding (Wild Thing) lands at number 11 in its third chart week. – Still inside the Top 20 Udo Lindenberg feat. Clueso see their take on the song Cello as the third most sold German track. It is now the 12th chart week and certainly the duo will slide down continously next weeks.

The best new German track comes in at number 29. It is the new single of Eisblume (Frosting – in German language it is very poetic–literally translated: flower of ice). In 2009 the band had its breakthrough with Eisblumen that rose to number 3. After a three years break the band is back. The sound changed hardly. The first single Für immer (Forever) uses a well known melody–it is YIRUMA’s piano tune River Flows In You that reaches the German charts now for a third time. Taking in account the heavy advertising for the single on TV rank 29 is kind of disappointing. It matches the result of the third single release from predecessor album Unter dem Eis (Under The Ice). Probably the band has to re-invent itself a little more next time.



Eisbrecher (Icebreaker) is back with new single and album. Two years ago they made their singles charts’ premiere with Eiszeit (Ice Age) for a lonely week. The same titled album performed much better giving the band its first Top 10 position ever. Now a new album is scheduled and the single Verückt should work as an appetizer. It is New German Hardcore at its best–the video comments actual financial crisis. Number 43 in its first chart week might show several people’s agreement on Eisbrecher’s analysis of the society.



One of the most active German artists of the past years launches a second hit from the soundtrack of his recent movie Blutzbrüdaz. I’m talking ’bout SIDO. For recording of Hol doch die Polizei (Go For The Police) he collaborated with B-Tight. It is the 9th track this decade that could chart and sees SIDO somehow involved. It is also one of the weaker ones–in chart terms. Lyrically it is once again ’bout being criminal caused by social circumstances. Raising up as a poor kid means one can’t blame on you but you can have a lot of fun. As always SIDO tells the story as part of his own ghetto legend. So take it for fictional …



Sido actually is very visible in Austria leading there the TV casting Sido macht Band (Sido makes band). One of the coaches in the show is Austrian Nazar. His recent single Fallen (alongside Austrian RAF 3.0) reaches the list at the very end. It is number 96 now.




Back to upcoming German stars: Behnam Moghaddam won’t be The Voice of Germany. He was kicked out on January 27th at the end of the fifth live show. A week before that the audience voted him for staying in the show after performing the song Hurt which was a small hit in the version of Johnny Cash. Originally the song was written and recorded by Nine Inch Nails. Johnny Cash later made the song popular. In commercial terms it was only the second single of the country legend that could reach the German list. Number 82 in 2003–that it was. In September 2010 the recording re-appeared for a single week in the list after airing of a TV documentary on Johnny Cash. Leona Lewis recorded a version at the end of last year becoming a Top 10 hit in Britain and Ireland. Now the song also catches (commercial) fire in Germany. Behnam Moghaddam can launch his version at number 31 on digital sales. He is the second best performing candidate so far in chart terms–of course the picture will change in a few days completely. Johnny Cash benefits from the casting show post mortem also. His version of Hurts re-enters the list at number 68–it is the highest rank the recording ever achieved.



Also Percival was kicked off the show on January 27th–a very emotional statement followed in the yellow press. Well, the week before the American singer was one of the big favourites of the audience. His version on Seven Nation Army enters the list at number 45. The song itself had an delicate chart career. When it was first released as a single in 2003 it became a hit in Britain only–German youth radio and music TV loved the song too and it became a kind of independent hit but never reached the commercial charts. The track-–more precise the guitar riff–became popular by its use during football matches. Finally the song was used as team entry anthem at European Championship 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. Then finally the song charted in German speaking countries reaching number 3 in Switzerland and number 4 in Germany. It is the one and only charted hit for the White Stripes in Germany.



A real hot candidate for the win and actually qualified for the final singer Kim Sanders can enter the charts for the first time with an song performed in the show. Of course Kim Sanders is the most experienced candidate of the whole season having already five chart hits under her belt. Additionally she was the voice of dance project Culture Beat in 1998/99 when she achieved three more (uncredited) chart hits. Now she appears with the song Killing Me Softly With His Song that she performed on January 20th and is landing at position 57. It is so far the second highest rank a song can reach crediting her name.



For the first time Killing Me Softly With His Song entered the German charts in 1973 when Roberta Flack released a version on single. It became a huge hit in the version of The Fugees in 1996 when it held for nine weeks the number one spot. The version of Kim Sanders is the third that can enter the German charts.

Last of the actual candidates (and also kicked off at the semi final) who can launch a hit is Jasmin Graf. She sang Stark (Powerful) at the show. The original is well known through German project Ich + Ich that brought the song to number 2 in 2007. Now the tune has a short appearance at number 76 again.




A former casting contestant also is again in the list. Sebastian Wurth – fifth at last year’s DSDS can launch a second hit. With that feat he is commercially the third successful act of last year’s season. The really big career is still missing.




A short look at one new European track entering the list. INNA finally hits the German charts with her track Club Rocker. It is the remix version featuring Flo Rida which is available for a few weeks. As in her home country and in France the track so far can not continue the success she had with her predecessors.

Casting Shows vs German Rap Battle

It is American Lana Del Rey who grabs the crown of the number 1 single of the week. She is the fourth act in 2011 who can reach the top with the very first single. In 2010 we had six new acts doing that – so one could see this as a gentle move in attention back to more known acts, away from the hysterical hype of „new born stars” which really had a hiatus in 2010. – Speaking of new successful acts in 2011 Lana Del Rey is also the second fastest to storm number one. Only Pietro Lombardi managed this year an immediate jump from nowhere right at the top. (I keep Marlon Roudette outisde the statistic cause he had a number 1 as part of Mattafix already – technically he is a newcomer of 2011 as well.) With two track single Video Games / Blue Jeans reaching number 1 Lana Del Rey sets a very high mark for her upcoming album and following single Born To Die. I guess it will be a hard struggle to continue on that high level.

An impressive climber halts at number 7 with Somebody That I Used To Know offered by Australian Gotye. The track is available only as download – the CD release follows on December 16th. For sure we will see the track Top 3 at Christmas time – probably number 1. Depends on how sustainable is the demand for Lana Del Rey …

Third new entry inside to the Top 10 is delivered by Foster The People having the track Pumped Up Kicks reaching number 9 in its fifth chart week.

Seeing all these non Europeans rising the list means we only have four tracks inside the Top 10 with at least participation of an European act. Seems that a very successfull period ends right now – last time we had only four „European“ tracks under the Top 10 was back in May this year.

Tuesday 29th of November the semi final of X Factor was aired with well known effect: Raffaela Weiss chose Someone Like You as her soultrack – the original from Adele rises 6–4. Rufus Martin was chosen to sing It Will Rain – the audience voted him out of the show, nonetheless the song by Bruno Mars rises 26–14 in its 9th chart week. (It had a big support bei German premiere of Breaking Dawn which was the third best in 2011.) Finally German shooting star Tim Bendzko performed at the show. As an effect his two hits Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären and Nur noch kurz die Welt retten rise again to position 20 resp. 22.

X Factor slowly dies ... pardon ends – The Voice Of Germany just starts. With impressive rates beating even the concurrently aired episode of Supertalent. Seems that Nena & Co. really can hold out against Dieter Bohlen. Within the first show on November 24th Nena, Rea Garvey, Xavier Naidoo & The BossHoss performed a German English cover of Heroes originally recorded by David Bowie in 1977. The track never charted before in Germany. Nena and The BossHoss already covered the song – Nena in 2007 on her album Cover Me, The BossHoss in 2009 for Gunter Gabriel and his album Sohn aus dem Volk (Son Of The People).



Propelled by the show also the BossHoss single Don’t Gimme That rises 49–32 giving the band its highest chart position ever reached.

Part 2 broadcasted November 25th also launched a hit. Max Giesinger from Karlsruhe staged with Sex On Fire – the original by Kings Of Leon re-enters at position 47. It is already the 65th chart week for that song.


The second highest German new entry comes in at position 29 and is a scandal surrounded release from the Bushido – Sido collaboration 23. Beginning of November Bushido was awarded with a BAMBI for integration. Once the BAMBI was one of Germany’s most important media awards. Nowadays there are heavy doubts ’bout the relevance of that award, some are asking for quitting the ceremony. However the decoration of Bushido caused a lot of protests. At the show Peter Plathe of Rosenstolz critisized the decision, a few days later Heino returned his BAMBIS. One of the very few defender of Bushido was Peter Maffay. He demanded for giving the rapper a second chance. To underline that opinion he started a collaboration with Bushido and Sido by recording a 2011 version of his hit Nessaja. A few weeks later after the release of the album the lead video got qualified as „youth inappropriate“. A very emotional media discussion also started at TV and finally Peter Maffay broke with the two rappers.

Supported by this kind of media hype the Maffay/23 release Erwachsen sein (Being adult) can land at a proper position 23 after being released as download single. Ironically it is the best position Peter Maffay achieved since 1996. The two rappers still wait for a massive hit in 2011. Usually tracks of both tumble in their second chart week. The track might re-bounce in two weeks time when the physical release is in shelves. Bets can be placed whether Erwachsen Sein can match the success of almost similar Für immer jung offered by Bushido and Karel Gott three years ago. The number 1 success of Scooter’s version on Nessaja in 2002 is something even Bushido/Sido not dreaming of.



Last statistic concerning Erwachsen sein: it is Peter Maffay’s 47th chart entry. He is now matching the discography of Depeche Mode …

One half of 23 – Sido – has a special Christmas/year end’s gift for his fans. On December 29th his movie Blutzbrüdaz (literally: Blood Brothers) starts in German theatres. The movie features Sido and mate B-Tight as actors. The soundtrack is available since beginning of December – leading single Geboren um frei zu sein (Born To Be Free) came a week before. The track features vocals from German Rio Reiser – lead singer of Ton Steine Scherben – who were one of the big protagonists of political (and anarchistic) music in the 70s. Later in the 80s he started a solo career but never really achieving mainstream access. Probably that fact was nothing he was worry about it. In 1996 he died and became honoured by the whole bunch of politicians and society members that he everytime had criticized.

Finding lyrics of Rio Reiser as the main chorus of a track from Sido is a strange thing at first sight. The anger of politically engaged people of the 70s is completely different to the attitude of the multicultural big city boys. Listening to Sido’s rhymes one can find the connection. It is always about getting told what’s right and wrong, it is about the mainstream society that decides what a single person could become or, it is about labeling of people by others. In this single point the term „Freedom” still is the same. For what people use their freedom changed massivly in the past 40 years – of course. The society itself changed too – one can watch that comparing the success of Rio Reiser and Sido. The rapper launches with Geboren um frei zu sein his 23rd solo chart hit – Rio Reiser or his band Ton Steine Scherben never appeared in the singles’ lists.

Bundesvision Song Contest

We do have 13 new entries inside the recent media control list. That’s a in fact the second biggest turnover this year. Plus 5 re-entries which means 18 tracks not charted the week before.Do the charts speed up after a year long period of calmness? Well – six of the new entries are caused by just aired Bundesvision Song Contest ... will talk baout that later. First of all: a look at the very top.

Marlon Roudette stands the 7th week at the top and now matches the 7 weeks run of Alexandra Stan in July and August . New Age and Mr. Saxobeat both sharing the title longest running number 1 in 2011.

Sean Paul can rise up to Number 3 with Got 2 Luv U and equals the position of his so far biggest hit Get Busy back in 2003.

The highest new entry comes due to above mentioned Bundesvision Song Contest – Stefan Raab’s yearly celebrated TV event hardly copied from the Eurovision contest. This year’s winner Tim Bendzko can also gain the biggest commercial success. Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären (If Words Would Be My Language) is the title track of his album and a very romantic ballad. It is a track about the difficulties of naming feelings. In my opinion that is exactly the point from which this song suffers. Instead of finding surprising lyrics like predecessor Nur noch kurz die Welt retten the song uses well known elements of soul. Even a gospel choir sings softly in the background. – Well, a lot of people like the song. It won the contest – with the lowest result of points ever reached -– and it enters the sales charts at number 5.



Number 4 within the contest – second best sold track is Echt (Real) by duo Glasperlenspiel (Glass Bead Game). They were one of only a few real unknown acts and it’s given, that their sound is what people convinced. The single already entered the sales charts at a surprising number 13 three weeks ago. Than the track felt out of the top 20 and now jumps again 18 – 9.



Also new in the sales charts is number 7 of the contest Frida Gold with Unsere Liebe ist aus Gold (Our Love Is Made Out Of Gold). It is the third single of the band that can enter the German charts.



The second at the show Flo Mega can launch his song Zurück (Back) only at number 44 inside the chart due to it’s release as digital single only.



Kraftklub from Saxonia enter the list at 45 with Ich will nicht nach Berlin (I Don’t Wanna Go To Berlin). The contest saw them at number 5.



Jupiter Jones had a huge success with Still (Calm/Silent) – Immerfürimmer (Everforever) landed at number 6 at the contest -– the digital single’s sale give them a new entry at 59. Not at all a succeeder of their big hit.



Jennifer Rostock enter with Ich kann nicht mehr (I Can’t Anymore) at 60 – the band was number 8 at the contest.



Not only due to Bundesvision Song Contest the German chart is filled with German songs this week. We do have four German productions inside the Top 10 – three of them in German including two Bundesvision contestants.

Inside the Top 20 there are two further songs including new SEEED single Molotov / Wonderful Life that lands straight at number 12. It is the first release of the band in more than five years. Their last hit Ding (Thing) climbed to Number 5 in 2006. In between three members of the group started solo carreers. The most successfull was Peter Fox releasing three Top 10 hits and winning once the Bundesvision Song Contest.Boundzound and Dellé had some medium hits.

Now the big band is back. A new album is announced but not scheduled. The tracks Molotov and Wonderful Life were available as free downloads on the band’s homepage back in summer – although the freshly released EP now enters at number 12. I guess this can count as an evidence that free music doesn’t kill artists. Wonderful Life is a cover version of the 1987 hit from British Colin Vearncombe aka Black which raised to Number 2 in Germany.



All in all we do have 25 (!) German productions inside the charts 23of them are in German (plus two Austrian hits that are in German too). Media control reports that this is the highest rate since April this year. I guess nobody could say anymore that there is no interest in German languaged songs – it is to question whether this flashlight shows a more sustainable trend. Or is it really just the Bundesvision effect? Except the presented artists on TV only two can made it new to the charts:

New in this list is 23 – the first collaboration project of former rivals Bushido and Sido. The track So mach ich es is the first single from an upcoming album and is available as download only so far. A physical release will follow on 21st of October. The track tells the old story: Sido and Bushido are the latest combatants, the No.1 rappers and they need to tell this to the world. The video is very well equipped – it is more a gangster movie than a music clip. Probably MTV & Co will not air the video cause there are several scenes fitting the terminus explicit.

The soundtrack of the video


Whether the track can rise much higher after it’s release on CD can be watched with tension. Both artists did not reach the Top 10 this year. It’s a shame for Germany’s most successful rappers .

A late Oktoberfest hit is Wenn die Wunderkerzen brennen (When The Sparklers Are Lighted On) offered by Schlager dinosaur Jürgen Drews. He started his career early in the 70s, than had a long long silent period until he came back in late 2009. Now he reigns as one of the most popular singer of the so called Mallorca scenery. Wenn die Wunderkerzen brennen immediately after its release ranks as the best selling track in this genre. Inside the German sales charts 2011 Jürgen Drews is the German artist with the longest time span of hits.



Finally the look which songs have a short comeback due to a performance at recent talent shows. Most loved track this week is Goodbye My Lover originally performed by James Blunt. 13 years old Lukas Mattioli sang the song at Das Supertalent on 1st October – the track re-enters at number 49.

Same show featured Okan Yasin an official Pitbull imitator. His performance propells the very first of the Cuban rap star I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) back in the list at number 76.

Back from Holidays: German tracks invading the charts

I guess you must be waiting for the news – one week I was offline. Instead of watching chart moves and other actions going on in music business I spend an awesome week in Rotterdam. Never was there and I’m deeply impressed … but let’s switch to what you’re waiting for.

It is Alexandra Stan’s fourth week at the Top. Her Mr. Saxobeat still outsells all other tracks. Still at number 2 – all together the third week – the all star collaboration Pitbull feat. NE-YO, Afrojack & Nayer that also is the worlds number 2.

Up to number 3 German Tim Bendzko is rising. His Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (Just Have To Save The World) peaks in its 7th week inside the Top 3 and is also the most popular German song of the moment. The sound is in fact completely opposite of all the other top hits of the day: minimal, almost acoustic, very romantic and down to earth. Plus – this young man does not know how to save the world like some other German acts. That alone makes him the most exciting new German act of 2011.




Like last week the highest new entry is a German production. Seven days ago it was the new single of DJ-Team MILK&SUGAR. After their greates commercial success Hey (Nah Neh Nah) left the list the new track featuring Miriam Makeba & Jungle Brothers was entering the list. Hi-A Ma Pata Pata is a remix of the 1968 song from Mama Africa and uses the exactly same formula like its predecessor. Still it works – the track started its career at number 39.
Strange thing besides: the track comes with two different videos. The one distributed in Germany is an animated one – simple minded and almost discriminating.



The one coming from the Netherlands is much more funny by using an original stage shooting of Mama Afrika herself. Unfortunatly this one is blocked in Germany (please don’t ask me why – stupid GEMA).




Highest new entry this recent week is a collaboration between two really different German stars. One of them caused last week the furious come back of French ZAZ who shot back 67–24 with her je veux after performing the song at the TV broadcasted show of Mario Barth. This German comedian right now fills stadiums like a rock star. In 2008 he set a Guiness Record by attracting 70.000 at Berlin Olympiastadion. One of Mario Barths regular guests is German rapper Sido. He already appeared in some spectacular collaborations like in companion with Adel Tawil or Stefan Remmler. Finally he recorded a track also with Mario Barth. Ick liebe dir (I Luv Ya) is a love song to Berlin, the home for both. Actually it praises a lot the restless party life of the city. Well – that’s true, probably Berlin is Europe’s party city number 1 of the moment.
The track starts at number 33 on downloads only.

28th of May: King Soccer is entering the top

Wasn’t it predictable? Even more: assured. K’NAAN is entering the top position of Germany’s official media control charts. The hymn of the FIFA-championship Wavin’ Flag is climbing two places in it's third week and leaves former top hit Don’t Believe by recent superstar Mehrzad Marashi down at number 4. The question now is: will K’NAAN stand at the top for the next weeks as the event is still two weeks (if you considering the evaluation time span three weeks) ahead? Or will german Eurovision participant Lena come back to interrupt the nr.1 run? At this very moment (a few hours before the contest is taking place) the german medias are still seeing "our" Lena winning. But well – have you followed the contest over the recent past? Do you think a regular pop song without any show effect will really have the chance of beating entries from Azerbaidshan, Greece, Turkey or even Iceland? Well … let's talk later about that.

For now K'NAAN is the fourth newcomer in 2010 entering the top position. All four – stromae, Lena Meyer-Landrut, Mehrzad Marashi and K'NAAN – did it consecutively. Last time we had this situation was 2004 when Eamon gave the crown to Moldavian O-Zone who turned it to Aventura and later on to Eric Prydz. Just to mention it – before Eamon an artist named Mario Winans entered the top with his first chart single but with the help of two stars in the face of Enya and P. Diddy. The four "real" newcomer spent alltogether 30 weeks at the top. Far away from the recent 12 weeks run of K'NAAN and friends.

In 2010 K'NAAN is the 8th artist entering the top position. Last year we had just five at the end of May cause of the Nr.1 occupying Poker Face by Lady Gaga.


Highest new entry of the week is Der Himmel soll warten (Heaven shall wait) by an unexpected collaboration between german rap star Sido and pop singer Adel Tawil. The track is the pre-release of following MTV unplugged album of the Berlin based rap star. He is so far the seventh german artist chosen for the MTV serial and only the second hiphop artist after Die Fantastischen Vier which published their unplugged set in 2000. The album marks a further step in the commercial battle between the two main german rap artists Bushido and Sido. Both acting for a few years as heavy mainstream acts after years of underground success. Bushido's last coup dates back to february this year when is biographical movie Zeiten ändern dich (Times change you) plus same titled album which hit the upper ranks of the charts. Leading single track Alles wird gut (All will be well) hit straight to number 10 at the singles charts.

While Bushido is staying at his well known level of brutality, violence, simplicity and machismo (with clearly sexist attitude) his competitor Sido changed from the bad ghetto kid to a more balanced and equalized artist. His outfit changed from an anonymous and angry war fighter to an gentle and sensitive father figure. In 2009 he even showed up as a supporter for the national election with an own TV show. Now with being chosen by MTV for its unplugged serie he enters finally the status of an highly accepted pop star. On the album one can find guests like Berlin alternative rap collective K.I.Z., Stephan Remmler famous as a member of 80's band Trio and Adel Tawil one of the most successfull german artists nowadays.

In commercial terms the battle between Sido and Bushido is pendant: Der Himmel soll warten is Sido's third top 10 single, Bushido's history counts four. Nr. 2 for the recent release is the best position Sido ever reached, Bushido had have a nr.4 hit with Alles verloren (Everything lost) in 2007.

The track itself speaks about the lust for life, unaccomplished dreams and wishes. The lyrics took clearly the position of a (young) man praying to an unnamed god. This fact is undoubtable a compromise to Adel Tawil who's lyrics always have a connection to christianity and godliness. For Sido itself such sound is quiet new and could make one wondering about an upcoming age crisis.

Adel Tawil strikes with the collaboration for a third consecutive time nr. 2 or better as a solo artist. Last year he acccompanied Cassandra Steen on her hit Stadt (Town). As a member of pop duo Ich + Ich he also hit nr.1 last year with Pflaster (Band-aid) which is still present at the list.


Completing the top 3 german band UNHEILIG is turning once again its moving with Geboren um zu leben (Born For Living). It is the 16th consecutive week within the german top 5 – far and away the best result 2010 so far.


Turning back in the top 10 is jason derülo with his second hit single In My Head. After spending two weeks outside the top 10 he now enters a new peak for the song with nr. 9.

Sido und Foo Fighters mit Albumwind

Teil 2 des Wochenrückblicks anhand der aktuellen media control-Charts. Was gab es neben den besonders erfolgreichen CD-Neustarts und Spitzentiteln sonst noch Wichtiges?

Zum Beispiel das: Zum Start seines vierten Solo-Albums Aggro Berlin kann Sido auch mit der ausgekoppelten Single Hey Du! noch einmal zulegen. Nachdem er vor zwei Wochen auf einem (für ihn) unglaublichen vierten Platz startete, rutschte die Single in der letzten Woche grad aus der Top 10 raus auf die 11.Nun also gibt es für ihn noch einmal eine gute Woche, Hey Du! klettert einen Platz auf die 10 und das Album Aggro Berlin startet in den Album-Charts auf der 5, nicht ganz so erfolgreich wie Vorgänger Ich und meine Maske, welches im vergangenen Jahr sogar bis an die Spitze der Liste gelangte.

Ähnliches gelingt den Foo Fighters. Ihr Album Greates Hits steigt in der Album-Liste auf Platz 8 ein und hievt auch die Single Wheels nochmal ordentlich nach oben. Nachdem er vor zwei Wochen als reiner Download-Titel auf der 56 eingestiegen war, ging es vergangene Woche runter auf die 61. Nun steht Wheels erstmals proper in der oberen Hälfte der Charts auf Platz 50 – immer noch als reine e-Single. Vielleicht hat auch der Auftritt der Foo Fighters bei den MTV Europe Music Awards in Berlin am 5. November schon erste Auswirkungen gezeigt. Wenn die Verleihung wirklich Auswirkungen auf den Umsatz hatte, dann dürfte da nächste Woche noch einiges mehr zu erwarten sein.

Mittlerweile haben sich RCA/Sony überigens erweichen lassen und planen zum 27. November eine reguläre Veröffentlichung auf CD. Damit dürfte donn nochmal ein Aufwärtsschub sicher sein … wenn dann nicht alle schon den Track per Download erworben haben und auf den physischen Silberling verzichten.

Neu auf dem CD-Single-Markt seit 30. Oktober Kate Ryan mit dem Startschuss zum nächsten Kapitel in ihrer Karriere. Allerdings ist dieses eher eine Art Resümée der letzten Jahre. Wenn wir uns erinnern, im Frühsommer 2008 stand Kate Ryan zuletzt in den deutschen Charts, Ella elle l’a, ein Cover des Nr.1-Hits von France Gall brachte der Belgierin ihren dritten Top 10-Hit in Deutschland. Alle weiteren Auskopplungen aus ihrem Album Free versandeten eher in der Bedeutungslosigkeit. Am 13. November nun (also genau jetzt) steht eine neue Compilation unter dem Titel French Connection in den Läden. Darauf enthalten eine Reihe von schon Bekanntem plus ein paar neuen Cover-Versionen französischer Hits, also genau das Genre, mit dem Kate Ryan am meisten Erfolg hat. Neu ist zum Beispiel eine Version des letzten Hits von France Gall Babacar. Ursprünglich war der Titel schon vor dem Nr.1-Erfolg Ella elle l’a erschienen, konnte sich da allerdings nicht durchsetzen und erhielt erst mit der Neuveröffentlichung ein Jahr später die entsprechende Aufmerksamkeit. Im Juli 1988 erreichte France Gall mit dem Titel schließlich Platz 14 in den deutschen Singlecharts und konnte sich ganze 11 Wochen in der Liste halten.

Die Version von Kate Ryan ist also seit dem 30. Oktober auf dem Markt. Es handelt sich dabei um eine eher durchschnittliche Dancepop-Variante, in seiner GroßraumRave-Version nicht unbedingt schlecht, aber wie bei vielen Kate Ryan-Coverversionen finde ich auch hier, da fehlt etwas Besonderes, Unverwechselbares. Wofür steht Kate Ryan eigentlich? Bisher hab ich da noch nicht so viel gefunden, und ob das anstehende Album nun die Antwort bringt … Platz 28 gibt es zunächst mal in der ersten Verkaufswoche, das ist guter Durchschnitt für Veröffentlichungen von ihr. Ein großartige r Schritt in ihrer Karriere ist es wohl eher nicht.

Neu in den CD-Regalen auch die dritte Auskopplung von Cassandra Steen aus ihrem Album Darum leben wir. Stadt, mit Unterstützung von Adel Tawil und ihr bislang größter Erfolg steht in dieser Woche (der 23. notierten) unverändert auf Platz 31. Daran kann die neue Single Glaub ihnen kein Wort mit Platz 49 nach Verkaufsstart allerdings nicht anschließen. Überhaupt finde ich diesen Titel wesentlich schwächer als ihr beiden anderen Singles. Allerdings heißt dieser nicht ganz so überzeugende Einstieg noch nicht fiel, denn die Verkäufe nach ihrem Auftritt bei popstars zählen in dieser Ausgabe noch nicht. Da dürfte also noch so einiges möglich sein. Vielleicht sogar , dass die neue Single den Vorgänger dann doch im Umsatz übertrifft.

Popstars – das ist natürlich auch in dieser Woche ein Thema: Special Guest in der Folge am 30. Oktober war die amerikanische Country-Pop-Sängerin Taylor Swift. In ihrer Heimat, den Staaten, ist sie ja schon fast so etwas wie ein Superstar. Nahezu jeder einzelen Titel von ihr, egal ob als Single-Veröffentlichung präsent oder nicht, konnte sich in den Billboard Hot 100 platzieren, und das nicht mal schlecht. Ihr vielleicht größter Erfolg ist You Belong With Me, welches bis zum Platz 2 klettern konnte. In Europa kommt der doch eher traditionell klingende Country-Rock-Sound nicht ganz so erfolgreich an. In Deutschland stand Taylor Swift lediglich mit Love Story im Mai diesen Jahres in den Charts. Immerhin belegte sie damit Platz 22, was gar nicht so schlecht ist. Nach ihrem Auftritt bei den Popstars und nachdem Love Story von Elif und Dagmara interpretiert wurde steigt natürlich die Nachfrage nach dem Titel und er kann sich in einer zehnten Woche noch einmal auf der 81platzieren.

Für einen Titel heißt es zum Anfang der grauen Jahreszeit noch einmal: zurück in der Gunst der Käufer_Innen. Nicht immer 100% nachzuvollziehen, vielleicht ist es tatsächlich die jahreszeit, die Nachdenkliches unterstützt, vielleicht ist es auch die Mitteilung, dass Clueso in zwei Kategorien für die 1LIVE Krone nominiert wurde, jedenfalls kann Gewinner noch einmal ordentlich in der Nachfrage zulegen und nach einem Monat Chartpause plötzlich wieder in die obere Hälfte der Liste zurückkehren. Ohnehin war Gewinner schon einer der beständigsten Songs des Jahres 2009. Bereits 26 Wochen war Clueso notiert, was genau einem halben Jahr entspricht, die höchste Platzierung war die 21. Auch wenn an Platzierungen Keinen Zentimeter im Jahr 2008 erfolgreicher abschnitt (Platz 15), kann man Gewinner doch als größten Erfolg von Clueso bezeichnen. In dieser Woche kehrt der Titel zurück auf Platz 42.

Am unteren Ende der Charts, da wo es fast schon nicht mehr um Kommerzialität geht, dort platziert sich die nächste Single von Lily Allen. Während ihr ganz großer Erfolg des Jahres Not Fair noch fleißig über den Ladentisch geht, in dieser Woche von der 49 auf die 48 steigend, liegt nun die reguläre Single Nr.3 als CD vor: twenty two. Zwischendrin platzierte sich auch Fuck You, das sogar bis zum Platz 49, aber diesen Titel gab es meines Wissens lediglich als e-Single. Was ja auch bei Lily Allen schon reichlich für Unmut gesorgt hat. Zumindest gab sie kürzlich zu Protokoll, dass sie wohl kein weiteres Album mehr aufnehmen wird, da sie über die Downloadverkäufe zu wenig Geld für die Produktion einnehme. Kann man nur sagen: Arme Lily! Offensichtlich hat sie uns doch nicht so viel mitzuteilen. Bzw.: warum ist sie denn überhaupt noch bei einem Major-Label, von denen ja ziemlich oft behauptet wird, dass der größere Teil des Umsatzes in der Firma bleibt?

twenty two könnte also die letzte Single von Lily Allen sein. Ich sag mal: Warten wir es ab. Schade wär’s drum. Zumindest steht diese Single erstmal neu auf Platz 85. Und das ist dann leider auch nicht so wahnsinnig toll.

Richtig toll dagegen verliefen für Placebo die MTV Europe Music Awards am 5. November in Berlin. Konnten sie doch den Titel als „Best Alternative Band“ einheimsen. Und offensichtlich besitzt Musikfernsehen doch noch Relevanz, zumindest wenn es Großveranstaltungen inszeniert. Für die Foo Fighters ist ja der Effekt nicht ganz eindeutig nachweisbar. Im Falle von Placebo gibt es allerdings keinen erkennbaren anderen Grund, warum ihre letzte Single Ashtray Heart nach zwei Wochen Pause wieder in deutlich messbaren Größen nachgefragt ist. Der Titel steigt wieder ein auf Platz 89 und da die Verleihung am letzten Abend des Auswertungszeitraumes über die Bühne ging, könnte da nächste Woche sogar noch ein größerer Sprung folgen. Für den Titel ist es ohnehin erst die fünfte Woche in der Liste. Seine höchste Platzierung ist auf den 6. Oktober notiert und steht derzeit bei Platz 66.

Und dann ging auch mal wieder die dreimonatige Zwangspause zu Ende, in dieser Woche für einen Titel, der unglaubliche Rekorde aufgestellt hat und es mit der neuerlichen Platzierung wieder tut. DJ Ötzi & Nik P. waren mit ihrem Überfliegerhit Ein Stern (der deinen namen trägt) am 16. Februar 2007 erstmals in den deutschen Charts notiert. Es folgte ein insgesamt 11-wöchiger Aufenthalt an der Spitze und eine insgesamt 67 Wochen dauernde ununterbrochene Chartnotierung. Danach reichten die Verkäufe nur noch für Platzierungen unterhalb der Position 50, weshalb der Titel dann auch immer wieder mal mit dem Kriterium „nicht chartfähig“ versehen wurde. Allerdings tat das der Nachfrage nicht wirklich Abbruch, auch im Jahr 2009 (also zwei Jahre nach dem Ersteinstieg) wurde der Titel bislang 18 Wochen lang notiert mit der Höchstposition 46 am 9. Januar. Am 14. August stand Ein Stern zuletzt in der Liste, damals in der insgesamt 94. Chartwoche – absoluter Rekord für einen Titel seit Bestehen der deutschen Verkaufscharts. Und nun geht es also wieder in die Karnevalssaison, die drei Monate Sperrzeit sind vorbei und DJ Ötzi + Nik P. werden erneut gelistet: in dieser Woche auf Platz 93, Chartwoche 95 – und ich habe das Gefühl, dass wir hier recht bald den ersten Titel feiern können, der es schafft 100 Wochen lang in den Charts platziert zu sein. Unglaublich!

30. Oktober 2009: Deutschsprachiges ganz oben - Sido, Silbermond, Xavier Naidoo

Eine zweite Woche für Robbie Williams mit Bodies an der Spitze der Charts. Rein statistisch somit der zweiterfolgreichste Titel des Künstlers. Rudebox hatte 2006 nur eine Woche auf der Position 1 zugebracht, Tripping ein Jahr davor 3 Wochen. Mal sehen was da noch so kommt. Laut iTunes-Charts, die ja immer ein ganz guter Seismograph sind, gibt es ab kommende Woche starke Konkurrenz durch OneRepublic und Queensberry.

Festgesetzt auf den Plätzen 2 und 3 haben sich Lady Gaga mit Paparazzi und David Guetta feat. Akon mit Sexy Bitch. Letzteres hört man tatsächlich gerade überall, wenn man sich die Samstagnacht irgendwo im öffentlichen Leben um die Ohren schlägt. Meist in der geglätteten Version Sexy Chick – seltsam.

Erfolgreichster CD-Singlestart geht an Sido. Mit Hey Du! liefert er eine Art Hit zu 20 Jahren deutsche Einheit. Hmm – das sind mal wieder ziemlich toughe Geschichten, die Sido da erzählt. Schön ist, dass es nicht die üblichen im-Osten-war-alles-besser-oder-schlechter-Stories sind. Da bleibt Sido doch schön authentisch. Was mich allerdings am meisten beeindruckt ist das neue Image von Sido. Herr Paul Würdig sieht jetzt nämlich schon ein bisschen so aus wie ein Mittelschullehrer – sorry für den Vergleich, aber es ist nicht zu leugnen, dass Sido überhaupt nicht mehr der aufmüpfige und wahnsinnig polarisierende Youngster ist. Der Sido ist mittlerweile nicht nur im Mainstream angekommen (war er ja als Jury-Mitglied von Popstars auch schon), sondern er agiert mittlerweile zunehmend in der Mitte der Gesellschaft und sogar politisch. Erinnern wir uns an seinen TV-Auftritt „Sido geht wählen“. Also da passiert was, wie immer das zu bewerten ist. Und dementsprechend werden auch seine Titel sanfter und glatter. Bei Hey Du! gibt’s eine liebe Berliner Mädchenstimme (die ein bisschen wie ein DDR-Pophit klingt) … und prompt glänzt Sido mit der höchsten Chartposition seiner Karriere: Hey Du! landet in der ersten Woche im Verkauf auf Platz 4. Das ist eigentlich schon ein ordentlicher Wahnsinn. Sein bislang erfolgreichster Titel war Augen auf welches 2008 bis zu Platz 7 stieg, nun also geht’s konsequent weiter. Und da würde es mich nicht wundern, wenn Sido nicht in sehr absehbarer Zeit sogar mit einer Nr.1 aufwarten kann. Im Moment wie gesagt, ist es erstmal der erste Top 5 Hit. Und gerade jetzt am 30. Oktober erscheint sein aktuelles Album Aggro Berlin, sozusagen ein Abgesang auf das nicht mehr existente Label.

Nun bin ich immer noch kein wirklicher Fan vom (neuen) Sido, deshalb hält sich meine Freude über den Platz 4-Erfolg in Grenzen. Was mich aber wirklich ganz ehrlich und aufrichtig freut ist, dass Sido besser abschneidet als Xavier Naidoo. Im Grunde geht es ja bei beiden Künstlern um die schlechte Welt und beschissene Lebensumstände, manchmal auch um so etwas wie Gefühle, Lust oder ähnliches. Aber da wo Sido ziemlich direkt seine Wut, Freude oder eben auch Geilheit rausrotzt, da greift Xavier Naidoo lieber in die Kiste weinerlicher Soul mit einer ganz ganz großen Menge Gottfürchtigkeit. Und das ist schon eine ziemlich schwierige Mischung … die natürlich trotzdem gut ankommt, weil es ja viele Menschen gibt, die auch nicht so richtig wissen wo es lang geht und dann gern ein größeres Ganzes dafür verantwortlich machen oder eben auf ein Paradies (bei Xavier Naidoo: der Himmel auf Erden) hoffen. Hmmm ...

Alles kann besser werden ist also die aktuelle Single zum gleichnamigen Album von Xavier Naidoo, das ja schon vor zwei Wochen direkt auf Platz 1 der Album-Charts preschte. Die Single kann da nicht ganz mithalten. Wahrscheinlich auch verursacht durch die ungewöhnliche Veröffentlichungspolitik reicht es im Nachgang zum Album für die Single nur für Platz 6. Immerhin ist es der neunte Solo-Top 10-Hit für Xavier Naidoo, zählen wir seine Erfolge mit den Söhnen Mannheims, Brothers Keepers und Zeichen der Zeit dazu, so ist es bereits der 15. Top 10-Hit. Übrigens genauso viel wie Robbie Williams in unterschiedlichsten Konstellationen bereits gesammelt hat. Nur das Xavier Naidoo jeweils wesentlich länger in der Spitzengruppe platziert war und ungefähr auf die doppelte Anzahl von Top 10-Wochen kommt.

Und noch ein deutschsprachiger CD-Neustart schafft es in dieser Woche gleich mal unter die ersten 10. Silbermond schicken ihre dritte Auskopplung aus dem Album Nichts passiert ins Rennen und Krieger des Lichts geht tatsächlich hoch in die Liste auf Platz 8. Das ist natürlich sehr sehr schön, zumal die Vorgängersingle mit Platz 20 dann doch nicht so ganz 100% zufrieden stellte. Krieger des Lichts ist die dritte Top 10-Single in diesem Jahr für Silbermond, denn ganz zu Beginn standen sie noch an der Seite von Curse mit Bis zum Schluss auf Platz 7.

Tja, Krieger des Lichts ist tatsächlich auch ein ganz nettes Stückchen Poprock. Ich hab ja immer ein bisschen ein Problem mit Silbermond-Veröffentlichungen, da sie so oft im Verkehrsfunkradio laufen, dass sie mir dann bald zu den Ohren raushängen. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob es mit Krieger des Lichts anders laufen wird. Zumindest find ich hier den Sound der Band ganz schön weiter gedacht, Silbermond ist zwar erkennbar, aber eben keine Kopie von schon gewesenen Hits. Dazu muss eine Band ja auch erstmal Lust haben. Insgesamt ist es der sechste Top 10-Hit für Silbermond.

6. Februar 2009

Nach der ziemlich aufregenden letzten Ausgabe, legen die Charts in dieser Woche eine kurze Pause ein. Der höchste Neuzugang steht auf Position 17 und die ersten 4 bleiben auf ihren Positionen. James Morrison featuring Nelly Furtado stehen also mit Broken Strings eine zweite Woche ganz oben an der Spitze. Wesentlich Neues gibt es zu den beiden nicht zu berichten. Sie stehen nicht nur in der Verkaufsliste ganz oben, sondern auch in den Airplay-Charts. Vielleicht dieses Bonmot am Rande: Immer wenn ich das Lied höre, gibt es im zweiten Drittel eine Stelle, kurz vor dem Refrain, da habe ich jedesmal das Gefühl jetzt müsste das High School Musical-Traumpaar Zac Efron & Vanessa Hudgens oder auch Troy & Gabriella mit Breaking Free einsetzen. Offensichtlich hat Broken Strings zwei bis vier Noten mit dem Teenie-Duett gemeinsam. Geht ja auch in beiden Titeln um Brüche .... Vielleicht gibt’s ja auch bald einen entsprechenden Mashup. Da würd ich mich ja sehr freuen.

Nach einer winzigen Pause kehren The Killers von der 7 wieder zurück in die Top 5, nämlich genau auf die 5. Und das ist dann auch schon die 11 Woche unter den ersten 10. In Amerika geht gerade die neueste Single Spaceman in die Charts – in Deutschland noch kein Anzeichen für einen Release. Aber ab 27. Februar ist unter dem Titel The Lowdown eine Doppel-CD mit gesprochener Biographie der Band sowie seltenen Interviews erhältlich. Nun ja, ich denke, in der Verkaufsliste wird das weniger eine Rolle spielen.

In die Top 10 kehrt ebenfalls nach kurzer Unterbrechung zurück Kevin Rudolf featuring Lil Wayne mit Let It Rock. Und das waren sie, die bestverkauften Zehn in Deutschland diese Woche.

Bereits erwähnt hatte ich es, der höchste Neuzugang befindet sich auf der 17 und geht an Lily Allen und ihre Single The Fear. Es ist der zweite Titel der Sängerin, der sich in Deutschland platzieren kann. Ihr Debüt gab sie 2006 mit Smile, welches zwar irgendwie ständig zu hören war, aber es trotzdem in der Verkaufsauswertung nur bis zur 67 schaffte. In ihrer englischen Heimat feiert sie mit The Fear bereits ihren zweiten Nr.1-Hit. Hierzulande reicht es für die erste Platzierung unter den ersten 20.
Wer The Fear noch absolut nicht kennt, sollte sich auf unbeschwerten Pop gefasst machen. Gute Laune-Musik für den Tagegebrauch.

Gleich einen Platz drunter steigt die Kombination des Jahres oder vielleicht sogar des Jahrzehnts ein: Sidos Hands On Scooter mit Beweg dein Arsch. Das Original Move Your Ass! war 1995 Scooters zweiter großer Hit in Deutschland. Alle Welt war der Meinung, dass nach Hyper Hyper nichts mehr kommen würde, und dann war Move Your Ass! plötzlich Platz 3. Sogar in Großbritannien konnte sich Move Your Ass! als erster Scooter-Titel platzieren. Bis zur 23 ging es damals, sieben Jahre später folgte mit The Logical Song sogar noch eine passable Nr.2. Auch heute noch ist Scooter im Königreich der einzige Act, der es mit schöner Regelmäßigkeit zu Chartplatzierungen innerhalb der Top 40 bringt. Es wurde also Zeit, die nicht unbedingt überall geliebte, aber derzeit international wohl erfolgreichste Band mit einem Remix-Sampler zu ehren. Sehr interessant liest sich das Tracklisting der gerade erschienenen Longplay-Version von Hands On Scooter. Da stehen solche Namen wie Andreas Dorau, die Bloodhound Gang oder auch Jan Delay, Knorkator und Modeselektor. Könnte ein Klassiker werden.
Die ausgekoppelte Version von Sido nennt auf dem CD-Cover als Beteiligte auch Kitty Kat & Tony D.. Tony D. hatte vor etwa eineinhalb Jahren mit Totalschaden seinen Charteinstand. Dies ist also sein zweites Auftauchen in der Liste. Sido hat mit Beweg dein Arsch seinen 15. Hit in Deutschland. In der kommenden Woche könnte auch „nein“ einen kleinen Sprung machen. Bisher hat es 6 Wochen als rein digitaler Track in der unteren Hälfte der Charts zugebracht, in dieser Woche auf der 82. Ab sofort ist aber Sido u. Doreen auch als echte CD-Single zu haben. Offensichtlich will Sido auch in diesem Jahr zu den Künstlern mit den meisten Titeln in den Charts gehören. Im Moment sind es 4 Titel, nur Rihanna ist mit 5 derzeit besser.

Zu den Aufsteigern in dieser Woche gehört wieder einmal Maria Mena. Die Norwegerin geht mit All This Time (Pick-Me-Up Song) von der 26 nochmal auf die 20 und mit ihrem Klassiker Just Hold Me von der 71 auf die 63. Am 30. Januar erschien gerade eine neue CD-Single-Variante mit genau diesen beiden Titeln drauf. Gezählt werden die Verkäufe für All This Time (Pick-Me-Up Song), weil dieser als Haupttitel gelistet wird. Mindestens eine Woche in den Top 20 scheint gesichert, eventuell sogar eine neue Bestplatzierung. Platz 15 steht derzeit für diesen Titel, für Just Hold Me wurde schon Platz 14 notiert.

Ebenfalls aufsteigend Coldplay mit Viva La Vida. Nach ihrem Auftritt bei Wetten dass? am 24. Januar geht es im Verkauf noch mal tüchtig nach oben: von der 39 auf die 21, und das in der 27. Chartwoche.

In der letzten Woche waren es Franz Ferdinand, in dieser Woche kommen Oasis als BritPop-Act neu in die Charts. Auch hier bleibt lediglich festzustellen: BritPop ist was für die Album-Käufer. Singletechnisch und in Sachen Einzelhits reicht es nicht. Platz 62 für die Ballade I’m Outta Time, die zweite Auskopplung aus dem Dig Out Your Soul-Album und insgesamt Singlehit Nr. 17 in Deutschland.

Letzter Neuzugang auf der 92: R. Kelly und I Believe – der Song zum Sieg von Barrack Obama und anlässlich der Inauguration am 20. Januar auch bewegend in Deutschland. In den USA ist der Titel als kostenloser Download zu haben, weshalb er auch in keiner Liste auftaucht. In Deutschland ist das offensichtlich anders. Und damit gibt es für R. Kelly den 27. Charthit hierzulande.

Ganz am Ende der Liste gibt es wie immer ein paar Rückkehrer. In dieser Woche sind das:
Estelle feat. Kanye West mit American Boy auf der 97 in der 19. Chartwoche.
Auf der 98 steht erneut Stefanie Heinzmann mit ihrem ersten Hit My Man Is A Mean man, mittlerweile das 30. mal notiert.
Die 99 gehört dem Projekt R.I.O., welches mit When The Sun Comes Down locker auf der 96 still steht. Drei Plätze tiefer geht das Debüt vom Sommer Shine On nach dreimonatiger Zwangspause in seiner 19. Woche wieder rein. Scheint damit auch ein Klassiker der Szene zu sein.
Schließlich stehen auch die Monrose mit ihrer letzten Single Why Not Us auf der 100 wieder in den Charts. Ihre faktisch am wenigsten erfolgreiche Veröffentlichung krebst derzeit eine achte Chartwoche zusammen.
