The new year’s laziness is gone: Germany has got a new No.1. And what kind of. Like in half of the world Pharrell Williams’ Happy goes to the Top here also. Within eight months Pharrell is listed at the very top for the third time. Such a feat was last seen in 2009/10 when Lady Gaga had three Nr.1 hits within seven months. These three Top hits charted consecutively – so he follows directly the series of hits launched by German Tokio Hotel in 2006/07.
Reaching the Top by climbing 8 places sounds quite spectacular. The books will tell you that only one year and three months ago another song did so. It was famous Gangnam Style by Korean PSY. That track surprisingly had a mere three-weeks-career at the Top although the time span strains over three complete months.
At number 3 Ed Sheeran comes in with his song for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’s end title. Five million people watched the movie in Germany alone – no surprise I See Fire also becomes a hit.
The brilliant Of the Night re-recorded by BASTILLE slowly takes fire and goes 52–26 which gives the band its third Top40 hit within 9 months. The song ultimately is one of the better words spoken in the 90s revival. Probably that period will finally fade away.
Gangster Rap–especially coming from Germany–still has a market here. Next generations star Farid Bang starts his new single Bitte Spitte Toi Bang at number 32 as the highest new entry. It is the second highest entry for him since he appeared first in the list around two years ago. Though none of his tracks spent more than two weeks inside the charts. So it is still a narrow scenery that adores him.
The US-American version of a young rap hope is Kid Ink. Right now he gots some more attention in Germany too. His album My Own Lane enters the album list right at number 12 in its first week. So three different tracks sneak in the list right now the highest stopping at number 36 in the face of Show Me–the absolut peak for the young artist in Germany. MTV featured him on its Push serial at the very beginning of the year. Well-this guy must be taken as an upcoming record star for sure.
German Revolverheld heavily promotes its new single Ich lass für dich das Licht an by launching a Story of the video clip. It's about the proposal of one of the band members to his long year girlfriend. The very romantic story touches a lot of people, so the song already jumps 90–38 without having the video released (13th of January) and a month before the new single mixes are released.
Romance is a big topic under Germany's youth. Sido's last album is full with lyrics of its kind. One of the most obvious is Liebe which reaches number 43 this week which is the best result for that track so far.
Featured by the 30th anniversary of TV channel RTL British singer Rebecca Ferguson whitnesses the hiatus of her career in Germany so far by Light On landing at number 40. It isn't the real breakthrough for sure.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis already have their fourth hit entering the upper half of the German charts. White Walls climbs to number 41 in its second chart week.
At the lower end of the charts first signs of upcoming Après Ski season are significant. The official start has taken place on prime time TV at Sat.1 on Januar 7th with a big show. One of the hits of the season for sure is Rock Mi by Bavarian voXXclub. The song actually rises 82–62 in its 12th chart week. It already reached number 44 back in October.
This current week is the third consecutive week that BEYONCÉ can enter with a new track. This time it is XO that lands at number 83. All three tracks sneaked around that area and disappeared after a single week. Real hits look different I guess.

Week number five at the top for Passenger and Let Her Go.
Just Give Me A Reason–the latest single release by P!NK Featuring Nate Ruess climbs three places to number 2 giving her an 8th Top 3 hit in Germany. Also Macklemore X Ryan Lewis are still on the way up. Their Can’t Hold Us rises to number 3.
Climbing to number 7 US rapper WAX now enters the second Top 10 worldwide. Seems that Rosana is a hit only in German speaking countries as Switzerland reports position 19.
With The Lumineers entering the Top 10 Germany has three songs in there that can be counted as folkrock: it is the Nr.1 by Passenger, it is the number 9 coming from Taylor Swift and it is Ho Hey by The Lumineers at number 10. The big demand for Ho Hey probably is supported by the start of Hart of Dixie on TV–a romantic province comedy celebrating the "easy" life. The Lumineers almost two years ago had their breakthrough in the US after being the background sound for that serial.
Have I told you last week that there is a big boredom according to the origin of Top 10 songs? Well-this week it is even worse. Eight of the songs are produced in the US–two in Britain. Highest German production sits at number 14 with Sido and Bilder im Kopf. It is the worst result since November 2011 when Glasperlenspiel was the best sold German act on exactly same place.
Still two weeks ahead of his album release will.i.am’s new single #ThatPower (featuring Justin Bieber) rises 11 places. It is the third track featuring will.i.am as an artist inside the current Top 20.
The Imagine Dragons do an impressive move: Radioactivegoes 39–12 without having an official CD single in shelves neither a good promotion of the track on platforms as amazon and so on. I would call this an independent seller.
Powered by mobile company Vodafone Capital Cities launch their first chart hit with Save And Sound.
The release of the soundtrack for current season of Germany’s Next Top Model causes some single hits too. The return of Marina + The Diamonds with British nr.1 hit Spectrum (Say My Name) is the one most significant. It lands at number 53 which is indeed a new peak for the song after more than eight months since it first appeared in the list. - Second hit is a real newcomer. CHVRCHES debuts with Recover at number 55.
The Voice Kids started on April 5th with impressive rates. Some of the songs performed at the show real profit from the new exposure. Girl On Fire by Alicia Keys as an example rises 22 places.
German luca vasta debuts in the charts after she produced a song for a commercial campaign for Active O2. The TV spot is on air since easter weekend–the single Cut My Hair enters at number 72.
Danish Volbeat for the very first time releases a number 1 album. Simultanously the single Cape Of Our Hero rises 23 places to number 74 in the singles chart.

A second week for British Passenger at bthe Top with his Let Her Go. He is the first British act since a year that can hold two consecutive weeks at the German top. Back in May last year it was Alex Clare with his Too Close who was Nr.1 for three weeks.
Folk and country (in its more pop oriented version) is highly beloved right now in Germany. Besides the Nr.1 Taylor Swift climbs to number 12 with I Knew You Were Trouble and The Lumineers reach the Top 20 with Ho Hey.
This week the sensation of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis becomes perfect as their Can’t Hold Us reaches the Top 10. It is only the third act this year having two Top 10 hits–and they are the second this year doing it simultaneously.
WAX this week becomes a Top 50 act. His Rosana jumps 57–32. In Austria the single goes straight to number 21. Seems that this track could become one of the spring tunes this year.
Last week I announced Nelly a dead superstar. This week his single Hey Porsche rises to number 62. Still not the big hit some were hoping.
After a 25 years long abstinence one of the voices of ABBA returns to the charts. Agnetha Fältskog’s single The One Who Loves You Now lands at number 71 making her the second artist with German Heino who celebrates a comeback after more than 20 years. Latter one just that current week left the list. Of course Agnetha Fältskog had chart appearances in between as a memeber of ABBA–last seen at new years week with their annual single Happy New Year.
Another act waiting for more than 15 years before re entering is Stevie B. Exactly this current week he re-enters the list after he was last seen in spring 1998. It is a remix of his Spring Love featuring Pitbull which gives him a fourth chart hit.

We do have a new Number 1. British Passenger brings his Let Her Go to number 1 in Germany also after it has peaked there already in Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Ireland, Austria and Australia. In his home country no sign of life of his hit single is been seen.
It took the singer 8 weeks to get to the top. Last time a song rose that slowly was back in spring last year when Tage wie dieser by Die Toten Hosen took also eight weeks for entering the top.
Passenger is the first British act since Adele (Skyfall who topped the charts–a five months long break now ends.
New inside the Top 10:
Pitbull Featuring Christina Aguilera who break the glass ceiling with Feel This Moment in their 8th chart week. It is Pitbull’s 8th and Christina’s 12th Top 10 hit in Germany.
Also new Das kleine Küken piept – kindergarden music by Pulcino Pio–I thought the carnival season is over.
Arriving inside the Top 20 Macklemore & Ryan Lewis now officially have got a second hit with Can’t Hold Us. The album The Heist hangs on number 16 in the album list.
Still two weeks ahead of its official international release I Need Your Love by Calvin Harris feat. Ellie Goulding climbs 16 places and reaches number 42.
German SCHILLER is an act that has a list of chart hits but never reached the Top 10. His current single Lichtermeer also misses that goal. It is the 16th attempt of the artist–the commercial peak of his career in the singles list was last October when the collaboration with UNHEILIG shot to number 12. On the album list Schiller is much more succesfull. He already has three number 1 albums under his belt–the latest one released in October 2012 also.
Slowly an US american rap artist becomes popular for the very first time. WAX and his single Rosana rise inside the German charts to number 58. And this is the first chart entry of that artist worldwide.
Folk and country stars Mumford & Sons were on tour in Germany. In Munich there were 6.000 fans celebrating the band. As an effect I Will Wait goes up again to number 68 in its 24th chart week.
At the very low end of the survey again comes a minimal DSDS effect. After the song Get Here was performed by Simone Mangiapane the original recording by Oleta Adams from 1990 can enter the German charts for the very first time.
The heydays of rapper NELLY are gone. The anouncement of his next album M.O. only reaches a few hardcore insiders. Also teasing single Hey Porsche did not overwhelm the audience. After three weeks in shelves the track makes a first dip inside the list at number 93. It is the first appearance of the former superstar for about two years. Since there are some dance remixes around at least the dance charts see the track climbing a few places higher.
All in all there are only 12 new or re-entering tracks inside the survey–it is the lowest turnover of hits this year so far.

We witness Scream & Shout at number 1 for a sixth week. The track now matches the result of the best performing single by Britney Spears so far, … Baby One More Time. The debut single spent six weeks at the top in Germany almost exactly 14 years ago.
And also will.i.am now matches with the current number 1 single his best performance at the top so far – it was Shut Up by his band The Black Eyed Peas which occupied the top spot in 2003/04 for six weeks.
Will both together go a week further this time?
Macklemore & Ryan Wilson feat. Wanz climb to number 3 with their Thrift Shop. In Switzerland the track this week reached Number 1.
It is just a week to go for the full release of Rihanna’s next Single Stay on CD. But the track steadily rises and this current week reaches number 5. It is her 19th Top 10 hit at all and the 10th alone in this decade. Eight of these ten song reached the Top 5.
On the way up DJ Antoine wants to become the next David Guetta. His current single Bella Vita is rising to number 15 matching now the peak of Sky Is The Limit – the title track of his current album not released as a single yet. Number 15 is the highest position so far since his 2012 smash hit Ma chérie hit number 6.
Probably the first German act on the field of Northern Soul is Leslie Clio. After her first chart entry Told You So in summer last year she now returns with I Couldn’t Care Less which is choosen for backgrounding the new Ford Fiesta Campaign. The spot lifts the song up to numberr 31 – a new peak for the artist.
It is carnival time in the list. DJ Ötzi’s new single Wie ein Komet is entering the list at number 33 – it is the highest seasonal song followed closely by Andreas Gaballier and his recording of I sing a Liad für di. Also Mickie krause takes a leap with his song Nur noch Schuhe an.
Also new is Cat Ballou with Et jitt kein Wood and Kasalla finally can reach the upper half with their Pirate for the first time. The song entered the list for the very first time one year ago.
Winner of the party season also are Stefan Raab and Cologne based HÖHNER..
And also will.i.am now matches with the current number 1 single his best performance at the top so far – it was Shut Up by his band The Black Eyed Peas which occupied the top spot in 2003/04 for six weeks.

Scream & Shout still is number 1 – it’s the fifth week for will.i.am & Britney Spears. Question is: will Britney match next week their best result so far from 1999?
The 48th chart single of Depeche Mode is crowned as the highest new entry at number 2. Heaven is the first Top 10 hit for the band in this recent decade –the 4th consecutive. It is already the 11th single that can reach number 2 or 1.
The second track on the single All That’s Mine enters the charts as a standalone purchase at number 86.
Finally CD version of Castle Of Glass recorded by Linkin Park is in stores now. It propells the track back to number 10 matching the peak two weeks ago.
British productions are gaining strenghth again. There are four tracks with at list a guest role of a British act inside the Top 10 and two more between number 11 and 20. A presence not seen since February last year. To compare that figures: from the US there are 5 tracks inside the Top 10 and four more under the following 10 places.
Imagine Dragons can reach with their debut album Night Visions number 6 of the album list. The release also propells official single It’s Time into the Top 20. And the opening track of the album Radioactive also finds a lot of purchasers. So it begins chart life at number 23. The song is mostly known from its use in the game Assassin’s Creed III.
The big success of the album list this week comes from veteran HEINO. His cover album Mit freundlichen Grüßen broke the record of being the fastest selling digital album of all times. By the way it is Heino’s very first number one album
The balance of his single hits is not that much impressive at all. Anyhow three tracks of his album are entering the list. The best performance can be seen by digital single Junge (a cover of a hit by Die Ärzte) which lands pretty at number 27 – in the week of it’s official release it completely failed in entering the list. At the end of the survey one can find also Sonne (originally recorded by Rammstein #91) and Haus am See (originally by Peter Fox, #96).
Probably much more impressive than the ranks achieved is the fact that Heino is back in the singles list after a23 years long break. His whole career as a hit singles artist now spans completely 45 years. That’s not bad.
The recent list covers the week 1st to 7th February. Still 10 days to go for carnival days. Nonetheless the sound of carnival starts to invade the German list. Still the most loved party track is I sing a Liad für Di by Austrian Andreas Gaballier. The track flies 71–44 in its 52nd chart week and reaches the highest rank since his peak weeks back in August 2011.
After its re-appearance due to a performance on DSDS Idiot by Michelle & Matthias Reim is recognized as a party hit too. It climbs 20 places to number 49 and reaches the upper half of the list for the first time since its original release 10 years ago. Doing so it overtakes also his current hit single Einsamer Stern.
Further down the list there is also a new song by Markus Becker and some other well known party animals like Mickie Krause, Höhner or Stefan Raab in the list.
Very low down the list there is the next hit for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis growing. Can’t Hold Us now reaches the Top 75 and it’s an assured thing we will see them much higher in a few weeks.
On February the 1st next season of Die ultimative Chartshow started. The first episode was about the most successful singles of the nineties. Landing on number 13 was Gangsta’s Paradise by Coolio featuring L.V.. The song still got power and rises 96–83 in its 33rd chart week.
And the last TV impact of this week comes from the first recall show of DSDS 13 on February 2nd. The trio Maurice, Kevin and Sergen performed Halt dich an mir fest and the original by Revolverheld feat. Marta Jandová can enter the survey once again at number 97.

It is week number 4 at the top for will.i.am &Britney Spears and their hit Scream & Shout.
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz now reach the Top 10 in Germany also. Thrift Shop lands at number 8 and it is worth mentioning that the track is purchased only via their own independent label. I would call it a ray of future which shines through the list these days.
Swiss DJ Antoine has released a new album calling Sky Is The Limit which storms to number 6 at the album charts. The title track is the highest new entry at number 15 this week in the singles list although it is not scheduled for a release as a single itself. Additionally official single Bella Vita reaches the list at number 37 and a third track called House Party (feat. B-Case & U-JEAN) lands at number 94.
Rihanna’s next single Stay enters the Top 20 and is on the way to become her 19th Top 10 hit. The release as CD single is scheduled for February 15th.
TV soap Berlin - Tag und Nacht causes a next hit. It is the title song that now enters at number 32. So far only character/actor Ole (ohne Kohle) had a short chart success last summer (the numerous regular pop hits supported by using them in the backround are not counted here).
DSDS fever starts – on 26th and 30th January the recall shows were aired. Big winner was the group with Wincent Weiß. They performed Wie soll ein Mensch das ertragen originally recorded by Philipp Poisel. That version climbs to number 41 this week again and gives the track the highest rank achieved since last September.
Also the candidates performing Idiot were successful – the original by Michell & Matthias Reim re-enters after a two years break. (By the way: Matthias Reim just released his new album making the track Einsamer Stern flying to number 49).
Finally French Laura Kleinas got some fans – the song performed by her In Love With The World finds its way in the list.

DSDS fever starts – on 26th and 30th January the recall shows were aired. Big winner was the group with Wincent Weiß. That version climbs to number 41 this week again and gives the track the highest rank achieved since last September.
