July 22nd 16: Galantis and Shindy Are Lucky

It is the third week for IMANY and her Don't Be So Shy at #1 in Germany. Seems that this is the summer hit 2016. A French summer. Although this week "only" #1 and #2 come from France as alle farben feat. YOUNOTUS rise one place to #3 with Please Tell Rosie. Latter one reaches its peak in the 14th chart week.

As Jennifer Lopez reaches #5 with Ain't Your Mama she is inside the top 5 the first time since her #1 On The Floor in July 2011.

Longest running inside the top 10 still Cheap Thrills by SIA Feat. Sean Paul is. It is already the 18th top 10 week which matches the best result so far installed by Alan Walker and his Faded.
The most top10 weeks collected by an artist in 2016 Justin Bieber still has on his account. Although this week his fellow landman DRAKE stands on his side as he also has a result of 20 weeks so far with One Dance sitting pretty at #7.

The lucky gainer of the week sits at #10. After spending directly two weeks under the glass ceiling Galantis celebrates its first top10 hit at all with No Money. The song is the third chart entry of the act–both predecessors failed to reach the upper half of the list. No Money also took a 13 weeks rise to get to its so far peak.

One more fact: It is this the first week without having a song in German under the top 10 since March 2015.

A real winner arrives at #13 as Shawn Mendes sees his recent single Treat You Better climb 11 places in its seventh chart week.
One place down there is finally a highest new entry worth its title. Shindy presents Roli as a pre-release to his album Dreams scheduled for November. By landing at #14 it is Shindy's highest chart entry at all–one have to realize it is his 18th charting track at all. His chart career only began four years ago. So he still has some steam left.
The Strumbellas in opposite had their first single Spirits rising 18–23 in its tenth chart week.
Also Enrique Iglesias is on the rise. Duele el corazon stops at #20. It is the highest entry coming from Spain since ... ehm past years El Perd#on recorded by Nicky Jam & Enrique Iglesias :-)

Disturbed's take on The Sound Of Silence bounces around the list. This week it reaches a new peak at #34 after jumping 22 places.

Further Gainers
jonas blue's second single Perfect Strangers enters the upper half of the list by rising 14 places to #46 in its seventh chart week.
Sucker For Pain from the Suicide Squad soundtrack makes a 11 places move to #47 and gives leading artist lil Wayne his first top50 appearance since four years. Also collaborating Imagine Dragons had a two years break while Ty Dolla $ign already has his third top 50 hit this year alone.
Alvaro Soler leaps 17 places to #50 with Sofia and takes 12 places to land at #51 with The Final Song.

With only 58 productions involving Europeans the continent again dips to a new low peak. The country with biggest presence still are the USA with 35 productions–it is not as much as we had some years ago–followed by Germany with 20 (although a very low result), Great Britain with 14 and Canada with 11 tracks.

Hot Spot 06-07-13

It is the second week for Get Lucky at number 1. Daft Punk now is the first French act having that honour for at least two weeks since seven years. Back than it was Bob Sinclar and his non official soccer WM anthem Love Generation that spent whole five unconsecutive weeks at the German Top.
Collaborating artist Pharrell Williams also is one of three artists landing at runners up position. It is Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell that jumps 11 places still a week ahead of its proper release on CD. The track got huge support by Robin Thicke’s performance at the final of Germany’s Next Top Model. 3,72 Million people watched the show on TV.

Also PSY and Bruno Mars had a performance and profit from the airing. Gentleman rises seven places to number 25 again and his big hit Gangnam Style jumps full 19 places to number 61. And Bruno Mars’ new single Treasure enters at number 91 while Locked Out Of Heaven dips in again at number 92.

With a new album released the single applaus! applaus! by sportfreunde stiller takes a six place leap to number 4 this week. It is now the second best performing track of the band falling short only behind 2006 Nr. 1 song 54 74 90 2006. Ein Kompliment also gets back to the list–one can find it at number 99 which gives the track a 64th chart week.

A week ago 2 Chainz feat. Wiz Khalifa showed that there are big things to come with their new track We Own It. Now with promoting movie Fast And Furious 6 in theatres, 790 thousands watchers on the first weekend and the physical CD in stores the single jumps up to number 5 giving Wiz Khalifa his second Top 5 hit in a year.

Counting Stars by OneRepublic rises steadily. Now it reaches number 26 in its third chart week.

Last week there were 24 new songs entering the charts – as much as never before. This current week the result changes completely. We only have four new tracks in the list. The highest song entering the list is an old one. Stern des Südens gains new popularity duely to the success of soccer team of FC Bayern München that won the European Champions League on May 25th. A week later they also became master of the German DFB pocal–it is quite certain that the Bayern-Fans United rise some places further with their single next week. By the way–it is only the 19th week in more than 15 years that the single can collect. The sports team is much more successfull.

Highest new track comes in at number 42 thanks to the release of the Pacha Summer 2013 compilation. So far Bang Bang (Explode) was available only on independent download platforms. Now it is brought to the masses. The track itself is far from a really new composition. It is much more a further remix of the Explode theme by Shaun Baker last seen on the list in 2010 as Gib mir 10 (Explode 3). Back than Shaun Baker collaborated with Austrian Darius & Finlay. The new rework repeats that constallation: DF&S stands for the initials of the three producers.
Number 42 by the way is the highest place the tune ever reached in its eight years long chart life.

Upcoming single of JLO Featuring: Pitbull bounces around the list . This week it goes 73–37 reaching a new peak. The officially digital release was scheduled for June the 1st according to big seller amazon. Let’s wait where the track lands next week finally.

Nr.1 hit Need U (100%) by Duke Dumont Feat. A*M*E catches slowly fire in Germany too. The track rises 77–46 this current week. – Scheduled for June 21st Rihanna already now climbs with her new single Right Now to number 48. – Accompanied by a mix from David Guetta the single CD release of This is what it feels like by Armin van Buuren Featuring Trevor Guthrie was announced for May 31st. A week before the track re-enters the German list at number 61. Support also came from the release of the KONTOR House of Summer 2013 compilation.

Whatever the new demand for Birdy caused–the singer is one of the winners this week. Her top 10 track People Help The People rises back to number 67, her single Skinny Love re-enters at number 73. It is the highest position the track ever achieved.

Finally at the end of the list KE$HA Feat: WILL.I.AM; enter the list with Crazy Kids. The track already is available for almost a month–but the video was premiered not earlier than end of May on MTV. Now also TV addicted kids know the track.

ON May 26th Rocky III was aired for the 1000th time. Still the soundtrack attracs a lot of people. Eye Of The Tiger by Survivor enters the list afterwards at number 95 and so becomes the song with the longest chart career in 2013. It was first listed on September 6th 1982–almost 31 years ago.

Hot Spot 05-24-13

It is the first number 1 starting its chart life straight at the Top since october past year. It is the first number 1 track coming from a swiss act since Luca Hänni won the DSDS casting in 2012. And it is the this season’s winner of the show. Beatrice Egli was voted for being the superstar 2013 on May 11th after she performed Mein Herz which right now is the most sold track of the week in Germany. It is the first time that a Schlager is released as the winner song of the casting show. Probably decreasing rates let producers search for a way to attract an older audience. By reaching number 1 Mein Herz is the most succesful Schlager release since DJ Ötzi & Nik P. stormed the charts in 2007 with Ein Stern (der deinen Namen trägt). Last statistical fact: Beatrice Egli is only the second female who won the DSDS final.Nine years ago Elli Erl was the first female superstar failing completely as a commercial act afterwards.

The final of DSDS caused some further hits and rises. Impossible by James Arthur reaches a new peak at number 3 after Ricardo Bielecki (the third of the contest) performed the song. He also was the one who made a broader audience aware of the song in March. – The runner up of the contest Lisa Wohlgemuth lands at number 8 with Heartbreaker.

The anti DSDS song Superstar by youtube comedian Freshtorge lands at number 14. It fails to eclipse the success of Beatrice Egli but still it is an impressive move watching the track shooting from nowhere into the Top 20.

Also the other casting show The Voice Kids had its final the week reflected by current survey. It was aired on Friday, May 10th. Biggest gainer is I Couldn’t Care Less originally performed by Leslie Clio. In the show participant Stéphanie did not have that much luck. After her performance she was voted off.

Back to real pop artists: Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams reach number 3 with Get Lucky. Both acts never got higher in Germany.

The 50th track of Depeche Mode enters the German list this week. It is Soothe My Soul the new single that lands at number 22. The band now overtakes the Pet Shop Boys that “only” had 49 different tracks inside the list but it falls one track short of Scooter and Howard Carpendale. The artist had having the most different songs in the survey of all times is Austrian Peter Alexander who has 81 chart hits under his belt.

JLO starts her new single a fortnight before its official German release. Live It Up enters the list at number 43 and will rise further the next weeks certainly. Collaborating partner again is Pitbull.

With new album Recto Verso released French singer ZAZ also has her single On Ira jumping 91-47. The album performs much better by landing at number 2 in its first week on sale. Supported by this release also her first hit je veux can enter the list again at number 65-the highest position since one and a half year.

Schlager at the Top of the charts–more Schlager in the downer half of the survey. After public TV aired the documentary Allein im Licht about Helene Fischer the star returns in both album and single charts. Her 2011 album Für einen Tag, the live version of this album and the Best of-collection from 2010-–all three are Top 10 in the album list. Single hits are: 2009 ich will immer wieder … dieses fieber spür’n at number 51 (in its 12th week), 2011 Phänomen at number 58 (9th week) and Die Hölle morgen früh at number 68. The latter one also reaches a new peak a year after it was first released. Finally at number 83 a completely new song enters the list. The talk is about Und morgen früh küss ich dich wach which was released first in 2007 on her album Von hier bis unendlich. After gaining some popularity it was re-released as the second song on the single Lass mich in dein Leben in 2008. Still the song is one of the most loved and now is officially her 7th chart song.

With four songs listed simultanously Helene Fischer is only the third act this year doing so. The two other ones are CRO and will.i.am.

Do you know who are the artists with most chart hits this current year so far? Well–Helene Fischer also here makes a good picture. But Rihanna and David Guetta also grab that crown by entering again with their collaboration Right now. It is the 5th charting track in 2013 for both. But all three have to share the throne with Flo Rida and CRO. All three males also the past year were listed as the acts with most charting tracks.

With 23 songs entering or re-entering the list this week it is the most changing issue this recent year. On March and February 1st we had the same situation. Of course in history we had have a period that was much more vital. In 2009 and 2010 it was almost common having up to 30 new or re-entering singles every week.

And a last story: a week before the contest is going on the German entry Glorious by cascada comes back to chart life. It enters the list at number 78–we all know that the interest will burn only a short time.

2011 – That Was The Chart Year

No surprise at the top of the singles list of the year 2011: On The Floor recorded by JLO feat. Pitbull is the most sold single of the past twelve months. The single was five weeks at number one in April and May strongly promoted due to the fact that it was the opening song for one of the live shows of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (Germany’s Idols). After Jennifer Lopez’ performance at Wetten dass…? (Bet that…) in June the song rebounded for a single week to the top spot after a six weeks break. The song so far spent 41 weeks inside the German charts, 25 of them in the Top 10 – it sneaks at number 72 still in the last issue of the year. It is far and away JLO’s most successful song in Germany and her very first number 1 hit after an almost 12 years long chart career.

JLO is the single queen – at the albums list we do have another female star. It is of course Adele and her album 21. The most successful single taken from it was Rolling In The Deep which also was one of the most significant songs of the year listed at number 4 in the 2011 survey. The song spent 51 weeks inside the charts – that’s only one week less than the whole year – and it held two weeks the number one spot in February, dethroned by Bruno Mars and his grenade (number 3 in 2011).

We did have 15 different number 1 songs – that’s two more than the year before but the same amount as in 2009 and 2008. So we could call the year a very usual one.
The longest number 1 runner was New Age by Marlon Roudette. 8 weeks – the complete September and October – the track was the most sold one in Germany. Number 6 in the survey of the year. The artist is back at the top after a 5 years break. In 2006 he had a number 1 hit with his project Mattafix.
Three acts reached the Top for the fourth time: The Black Eyed Peas with The Time (Dirty Bit) (number 36) – and they now had number one hits over a seven years span –, Lady Gaga with Born This Way (number 17) and Rihanna with We Found Love (number 13).
The longest way to number 1 had Danza Kuduro by Lucenzo feat. Don Omar which took full two months to reach the top.

Leaving number 1 territory we truly can describe a battle between a DJ and a rapper for being the most active act of the year. Seeing Cuban-USAmerican rapper Pitbull at the top of the singles list reflects the presence of this artist in 2011. He collected 168 chart entries over the whole year making him only the second most present artist in 2011. The real king in terms of chart weeks is – you already know it – French DJ David Guetta. He appeared 216 times with 16 different tracks in the list. The most successfull week was the issue from September 9th, when he had nine different tracks in the survey. It was the week when his album Nothing But The beat was released. His most successful single hit according to sales figures was Sweat – the rework of Snoop Dogg’s recording Wet – that is listed at number 7 in the list of the year. The track occupied number 2 for four weeks in April /May and missed the top cause JLO & Pitbull sticked there. In 2011 David Guetta had 5 more tracks reaching the Top 10 – 4 of them in a row – giving him 39 Top 10 weeks, what is NOT the best result in 2011. Again Pitbull is the one beating him out with 45 weeks inside the Top 10.

Overshadowed by that battle and the two very strong ladies the most active female star of the year misses the really big headline. Rihanna had 8 hits in 2011, 5 of them top ten, she appeared full 151 weeks inside the list. In every other chart year she would be celebrated as the queen.

Another act that growed in the shadow is Flo Rida. In 2011 he launched four Top 10 hits finally reaching number 1 with Good Feeeling at the end of the year. I guess he will be one of the big names in 2012 too.

The most successful newcomer is a casted star: Pietro Lombardi had three single hits this year, his debut Call My Name shot straight to number 1 and spent four weeks there (number 5 in the year’s survey) before tumbling down to number 7. The appearance of his latest release Goin’ To L.A. gives the impression that his star is already sinking. But first the look back: Pietro Lombardi has the honour of being the best sold German act. In the survey follows Tim Bendzko with Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (number 10) and Jupiter Jones with Still (number 20).

Finally some trivias: There are two songs in 2011 that spent more than 40 weeks inside the charts in different versions. It is Waka Waka – the anthem of the 2010 world championship – which was available as a single by Shakira and in a German version by Spongebob. The song ranked still at number 33 in 2011. Probably more present was Hello by Martin Solveig and Dragonette which ranked at number 5 at the beginning of the year and had a cover version inside the charts recorded by Berlin band The Baseballs.

A chart record was set by Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner when their Sky And Sand reached its peak at number 29 on November 11th – in its 83rd chart week. Another long time benchmark was set in the very last week of the year when Happy Xmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon & Yoko Ono with the Plastic Ono Band and the Harlem Community Choir reappeared in the list. The song was noted for the first time in February 1973 and now has an almost 39 years chart run reaching position 46 as the highest.

The act having the longest chart career of all present in 2011 is Mama Africa Miriam Makeba. She came to new chart life due to a remix of her hit Pata Pata from 1968 by Milk&Sugar. The single spent eight weeks in the list rising to number 33. Miriam Makeba now was present in the German charts for 43 and a half year. Talking ’bout come backs in 2011 I have to mention Eva Jacob who had her last chart entry in 1965 with the Andrew Sisters. 45 and a half years later she was part of the Dschungel Allstars 2011 that had a short stop alongside Zipfelbuben in February 2011. So technically she holds the record of being absent from the charts for the longest time.

Although 2011 was the least successful year for German SCOOTER the band is right now the act with the longest continuity of hits. 2011 was their18th year in a row releasing at least one chart hit. All time leader Peter Alexander still is far and away with 29 consecutive years.

Least successful acts: Peter Maffay – who really played a sad (and naive) role around the Bushido/BAMBI discussion – added this year two singles to his impressive collection of 47 chart hits, although the past 23 did not cross posiiton 25 – the last time he was seen higher was in 1983 with Nessaja.
To mention also the duo Eichensohn/Davenstedt that spent a single week at number 100 with the track FFF.

Chart flash 11-19: Jessie J finally arrives + a dance tracks battle

Nothing more boring than an old number one. The press information of media control today is offering exactly this. The number one of the sales week 29th April to 5th May. But everybody knows the new number one of the week just right now going on. It will be Pietro Lombardi the winner of Germany’s casting show DSDS who was voted last Saturday. – I will tell you more next week.

First we have to check the week before Pietro was the new superstar. It was the time when JLO feat. Pitbull ruled everything. They both together had the power of spending a fifth week at the German top spot with On The Floor . It is also unlikely seeing the couple returning to the top. The next event is knocking at the door right now and we will witness a battle DSDS vs. Eurovision Song Contest in seven days time for sure. The battle just started within the press.

Highest new entry storms the list on download sales only. Jessie J feat. B.o.B’s Price Tag was a number 1 hit in the UK already in February. Finally the single is released in Germany also and jumps right to number 3. It is the breakthrough for Jessie J. who had a first medium hit with Do It Like A Dude a month ago. B.o.B now hits the German Top 10 for the second time. His Airplanes featuring Hayley Williams spent two weeks at number 8 in October last year. Usually the physical release causes a boost in sales and a jump within the list. In the case of Price Tag increased sales from 6th May on might led to number 3 again … the company somehow suffers from bad timing in its release schedule.

Two dance floor tracks enter the charts this recent week. The more successful is Party Rock Anthem offered by US American LMFAO – I would name the project as one of the craziest and toughest electro party acts today. The anthem enters the list at number 7. The German definition of party – or let’s take it as the definition of 10 years ago – climbs to number 22 in the figure of Groove Coverage. The project still does nothing else than taking old hits and recording them in a new version including a dance floor beat. With Angeline they really show courage. The original called Lotosblume by German Schlager group Die Flippers found its way to the charts in 1989 and reached number 23. It was at that time a hit attracting mostly elder people. Groove Coverage now tries to convert the melody for a younger audience. I really doubt that it works very well … LMFAO seems much more alive and innovative than Groove Coverage.

Angeline by Groove Coverage

The original version by Die Flippers (remixed somewhen in the 2000s)

Chartflash 11-12: Eurodance is not all but it is

This is the chart update covering the week 11th to 17th March – the week which saw the world somehow stopping shocked by the occurences going on in Japan. Indeed the very polemic mainstream chart site oljo.de paused publishing – and critisized TV shows like DSDS for continuing their scandalizing performance without any hesitation. Well – pop music hardly stops. There is no evil or accident which really could make people not consuming music and have some entertainment and fun. Or am I wrong?

A look at the actual preview of this weeks chart given by media control tells you the show’s going on. No news at the Top. Lady Gaga still holds firm at No. 1 with Born This Way. It is the second longest stay at the top spot for the Lady as both its predecessors Paparazzi and Bad Romance spend a single week at the top. Lady Gagas very first No.1 hit Poker Face spent there whole 13 weeks in 2009. Will the new single have the power breaking this feat?

The actual statistic sees Lady Gaga collecting 17 weeks at No.1 – she approaches the top 10 of artists with most weeks spending at the top. Right now she is joining acts like Bee Gees and Petula Clark.

The highest new entry in the list is an old one coming in the like of jay sean ft. Lil Wayne. Their Down was performed at DSDS (German’s take on Idols) by what looks like the next winner Pietro Lombardi which gives the track a huge boost in online sales shooting it up to No.9. What makes this rise spectacular is the fact that Pietro Lombardi performed the song a month before at the recall show making the track reentering at position 51. It spend three weeks within the charts cause of its circulating youtube video. Now Pietro Lombardi and the track had much more presence in the show – and the fan crowd of the contestant is growing obviously.

Jay Sean finally sets his one and only chart track in Germany to a proper hit. His companion on the track Lil Wayne knows already how it feels in the upper regions of the charts. In early 2009 he accompanied Kevin Rudolf for the crossover track Let It Rock which spent three weeks at No. 10. Down is for now the highest charting track he is credited to.

The highest really new entry is not at all the most successful CD release of the week. That crown goes again to Lady Gaga … but well No.1 is No.1 with or without a proper physical release. A full release after a three years break should called a comeback. Well here it is: the lady used to be a superstar at the very beginning of this century Jennifer Lopez or shortly called JLO. Between 1999 and 2007 she topped the US charts four times and having five Top 10 hits additionally. Germany was not really the region of big success. JLO have had only six Top 10 hits none of them rising higher than position 5. The american RnB sound was featured everywhere on TV and radio but the real life was slightly different. Five years later the world seems different: Europop is crowding the US charts. Me as an European do not really understand what is so interesting with cheesy sounds and stamping beats. Well it works. Right now in the US also. No wonder the big RnB diva chose an old European hit from 1989 to rework. Lambada by French project Kaoma was the sound of the late 80ies giving the longing for a hot holiday affair a musical interpretation. The song topped the charts in almost every European country. Originally Lambada bases upon a Bolivian track – maybe that link made the single a minor hit in the states as well. No.46 – meaning a small fan crowd took notice of it.

The new take on the hook line attracts much more people. JLO combined the caribbean sound with club appeal and a guest rap by playboy of now Mr. Pitbull. The melange works – On The Floor by now reached No.5 in the US. In Europe the hedonistic anthem just started catching fire. Austria and Switzerland see the track rising to No.3. Germany by now is a little more reserved. The single starts its chart life at No.10. It is the first time in four years JLO reaches the Top 10 in Germany. Pitbull does have his third track inside the German Top 10 – or if you count his appearance on Enrique Iglesias’ I Like It this is his fourth Top 10 hit.

The best new CD start offered by German artist is the new recording of Die Atzen (sorry, that term is really not translatable). The last three years they had two huge hits with Das geht ab (That rocks) and Disco pogo followed by two minor releases. Now they try to continue their success with their latest album Party Chaos announced with the single Strobo Pop. The formula of the sound is well known – what is new is the featured artist they asked for help. It is nobody else than NENA. She is one of the female German artists recording for almost 30 years and still very popular. The other one is Anette Humpe who just take a pause from her work with Ich + Ich. Well – NENA had a lot of transformations in her carreer. Now she is in her fifties and still can attract an audience of teenagers. In fact NENA probably has more fans within the group of underaged than amongst the more serious adults. The actual collaboration clearly underlines that. One could argue and discuss now about the strength of pop and its ability of undergoing every commitment. Four years ago Die Atzen were famous for being the nasty and rude rap boys – NENA more or less tried to keep 80ies icons alive like Kim Wilde. In 2011 both together appear on an electro club track taking some 90ies power combining it with the toughness of today and talking about only ones: party party party. Strobo Pop for me is the straight consequence of tracks like JLOs On The Floor – more hedonistic, more reckless and much more complicated to sell. In Germany that new youth culture still have power – No. 20 in the first week is a statement.
