After two very lazy summer weeks the market starts changing again. But not on the very top. LYKKE LI still holds firm at number 1. I Follow Rivers is the fifth consecutive week the most sold track in Germany. Also number 2, 3 and 4 are completely static. The first mover lands at number 7 in the face of r.i.o. Feat. U-Jean. Summer Jam originally was a hit in 2000 for The Underdog Proect reaching number 3 in Germany. Since than it was remixed by the project itself or friends of the project for several times. Most popular became the version in 2003 (versus The Sunclub) that made it to Number 1 in Belgium and the Netherlands and Top 5 in Denmark and France. The current version is so far the first real cover (I do not count the version recorded by Die Schlümpfe –The dwarfs – as a real version).
2012 version and original
The strong appearance of new dance tunes comes along with the release of the KONTOR Summer Jam compilation which can enter Number 4 of the compilation list. It includes a trio called the Italo Brothers. The three bys in fact come from North Germany but obviously want to connect with the dolce vita in South Europe. Their song My Life Is A Party tells that story. It is the 28th cover version of O-Zone’s big summer hit Dragostea Di Tei from 2003 (if one follows the list on coverinfo.de). And it is like the r.i.o. hit nothing more (or less) than a party song using a well known tune.
(sorry for not connecting with the original – you all know it)
Also Dutch Mischa Daniels profits from the release of the KONTOR compilation. The single That Girl enters at number 95 in the singles list. Partner here is once again U-JEAN.
The next big impact on the music market is the huge sports event filling all channels and papers. Surpringly Taio Cruz’s World In Our Hands misses narrowly the Top 10. After its full release on CD the song lands at number 11. Probably it can break the glass ceiling in next week’s time. The song is highly featured as the signature tune for the ZDF coverage of the Olympics. And also Florence + the Machine can launch a small hit with Spectrum after its use for the same reason. Beyond any explanation the label does not schedule Spectrum as a standalone single release although the song became an impressive Number 1 hit in Britain. Once again decisions of music managers at big labels seem far away from the real demand of the public.
More TV stories? Rising after continuous use on TV Rayos de sol by Jose de Rico & Henry Mendez jumps 80–37 in its second chart week.
And: Teenager don’t care ‘bout sport. They love to watch stars like Miley Cyrus. On Sunday 29th of July TV channel Pro7 premiered The Last Song (German title: Mit dir an meiner Seite) on free TV. The movie got 17,3% or 2,2 million watchers–almost as much as the Olympics got on public TV. Right after airing of the movie the signature song When I Look At You found a lot of purchasers making the track entering at number 85 in the current list. Although the single was available in 2010 already it never charted before. So this is the eighth chart hit for Miley Cyrus.
Back to a real gainer: Italian band Frei.Wild enjoys raising popularity in Germany. Latest single Feinde Deiner Feinde (Enemy Of Your Enemies) comes in at number 19 which is the highest debut for the band so far. It is again a song playing with national pride and martial lyrics. The German youth obviously doesn’t have any problem with this–conservative and national values are becoming popular more and more. Tot und doch am Leben (Dead But Alive) is the second song on the CD–on download sales it can reach number 79.
Released on CD Swedish Jonas Myrin can launch its Day Of The Battle at number 65. So far a good start for the newcomer.
An upcoming hit is Olly Murs’ new single Oh My Goodness. It can enter the list two weeks before its release on CD. The song follows in the footsteps of Nr. 1 hit Heart Skips A Beat.
Finally MC Fitti is fancy of Miami Vice. Or he had watched to much of that series. However 30° Grad is a parody to the 80ies and a lot of people love that. So the song enters at number 99. An I personally hope this won’t become a big hit.

22-12: KONTOR sound starts the summer
What a week: 14 new entries – that’s what we've had only once this current year. Now that feat comes with a lot of new releases especially from the dance floor section. Let’s call it the industries effort for starting the summer business. Let's have a look what's going on.
The number one is still occupied by Die Toten Hosen. It is the second week vor Tage wie diese (Days Like These). The biggest impact comes from US rapper Flo Rida who sees his Whistle flying to number 2 a week before the full CD is released. (Further down the list he enters the charts for second time this week as featured artist.)
The first real story (real in the meaning of explicit Germany connected) can be found at number 9. The past two issues of the charts there was a strong influence of soccer detectable. And also this week presents its soccer hit. The sales span covered by the current list starts 18th of May and ends on 24th. On 19th there was the final of the UEFA cup confronting FC Bayern München with FC Chelsea. The match was highly anticipated in German media. The music used during breaks was I Follow Rivers recorded by Swedish Lykke Li. The singer is kind of an independent star in Germany for about three years. The end of 2011 she had commercial success in Belgium, the Netherlands and France storming the Top of the charts with I Follow Rivers. Now the time has come for a bigger attention in Germany too. The single can enter the German list inside the Top 10. Probably she will pass the honour of being the most successful Swedish act next week to fresh Eurovision winner Loreen.
The hymn of Bayern München also makes a big leap inside the list and lands at number 46 although the team succumb on the penalty.
New sound coming from KONTOR starts this week. The label at this moment is the most successful dance label in Germany accounting for the big success of that style. It freshly released the compilation House Of House Vol. 15 including a whole bunch of new digital releases. Most commercially successful is German project r.i.o.. It offers the hit Party Shaker which lands inside the Top 10 by collecting everything one know from past summer hits. The rap part now comes from NICCO who so far only collaborated with Austrian Darius & Finlay. Party Shaker is the second Top 10 hit for r.i.o. after last years Turn This Club Around.
2010 was the year of Die Atzen. Three simultanous hits selling weeks and weeks. In 2011 it was a strange collaboration with NENA that kept the memories to Frauenarzt & Manny Marc alive, This year the Atzen duo releases the third album with its own style–it can make on the album list a number 16. The single taken from that collection calls Party (Ich will abgehn). I guess there is no change to the sound two years ago. Probably that’s the reason why it only can enter at number 45.
Also Swiss REMADY offers a new production. Single Ladies features known Zurich singer Manu-L and Swedish rapper J-Son. The new track starts as single download at number 50 which marks a new peak of REMADY.
Last one of the KONTOR sound: RJ Flo Rida & Qwote also can enter the charts as the only non European act of the label this week.
If you're interested in other sounds than European dancefloor you should test single number two off the album auch by die ärzte (The Doctors). It calls m+f. The letters stand for male and female and the song describes the most common rituals of how the sexes come together … a funny story at all. The single starts its chart life right after the first one left the list.
Significant rises
American Linkin Park finally has a full CD version of Burn It Down in the shelves. The track peaks in its fifth chart week at number 16 eclipsing the download only peak of four weeks ago.
Pitbull launches with Dance Again a third simultanous hit inside the Top 20. Back In Time still rises up to number 5 this week meanwhile There She Goes by Taio Cruz slightly slides to number 8. The new collaboration with JLO can enter the list at number 19. Pitbull now is the artist having most tracks inside the Top 100 in 2012–the books count 10. Last year he had nine tracks as lead or featured artist plus two tracks where he wasn’t listed but performed.
Supported by the use as background sound for a commercial Santigold can celebrate her first chart hit in Germany. Disparate Youth starts at number 26.
After full CD release in Germany Forever by Danish MEDINA takes a 89–38 leap. So far it is the third best rank MEDINA could reach in her two years long career.
One might think that tunes once very successful die in peace and never come back. This isn’t true at all as very well known Infinity shows these days. A big hit in 1990 by Guru Josh it came back in a reworked version four years ago. That version spend another 64 weeks inside the charts peaking at number 4. Now the tune was chosen as the background for MAGNUM icecream (at least in German speaking countries) including the release of new remixes by acts like DJ Antoine vs. Mad Mark, Robby Rivera, Loverush and PunX. The new mixes immediatly start inside the chart at number 48.
New German sounds
Irish Rea Garvey can be count as a German act due to the fact he lives in Germany and is very active on German TV. In autumn last year he was part of the jury for The Voice of Germany. Now he offers a new solo single with Heart Of An Enemy. It can’t continue the success of Can’t Stand The Silence and Colour Me In.
Die Hölle morgen früh (The hell tomorrow morning) by Helene Fischer finally is available on CD. As most of the fans of her are rather conservative the release causes a re-entry of the song with a new peak. Although rank 72 looks shabby at the first sight it is for the first time that Helene Fischer can launch two single hits from an album inside the sales charts. So probably this is the point where the singer turns into a maker of single hits.
More Schlager can be found new at number 96. It is Franziska who returns after three and a half years back into the sales charts. Meanwhile she released an album which also reached the charts. Not Until Today I Know That I Love You) is her third singles chart hit and also the worst performing so far.
A German newcomer is Mark Forster. As far as the story is told he makes music as background musician for several years. Now he offers his first solo material and it needs only a little to make him the new Tim Bendzko. Auf dem Weg (On The Way) is a story about making things in life one doesn’t really want. But it is not only about lost chances, it is more about being conscious of that situation and enjoying it.
And finally back to party. Party is the topic for the VIVA’s serial Party, Bruder!. The title track comes from US based Breathe Carolina. Blackout could be a European production at all. By this it is quite strange that the track needed a full year to arrive on these shores. Blame on their label SONY that hadn’t enough balls releasing the single earlier.

Nr.1 Battle + First X-mas Releases
Once again R(ihanna) is the one who grabs the honour of being number 1 in Germany. Plus – once again Rihanna does so by rising from a place not being number 1. It is the second time that We Found Love reclaims the top position after left that one before. The last track and artist doing so was Keri Hilson with her I Like almost exactly two years ago. Back than Aura Dione and Lady Gaga where the combatants disturbing a consecutive run at the top. In 2011 it was again Aura Dione and a new star named Flo Rida who doing similar to Rihanna.
The rise back to number 1 is all but surprising. Talk That Talk – the new album of Rihanna appeared in shops and enters at number 3 within the album list. Big album releases very often cause a new interest in single hits. So We Found Love really benefits from the album release. It is the fourth week of the track as the most sold one in Germany.
The second big album release comes from Canadian NICKELBACK. They even outsell Rihanna with their new offer Here And Now – in the single’s survey When We Stand Together jumps back 18–9.
Their are more album effects inside the recent list. Finnish Sunrise Ave see their hollywood hills jumping back 97–73 and jessie.J re-enters the list with Price Tag at 74. Both acts released a deluxe re-edition of their latest albums.
The next big (sales) event is knocking at the door: Christmas. Last week Justin Bieber with Mistletoe clocked up the charts. This week menowin enters with Waiting For Christmas at 27. It’s the second single of the runner’s up superstar from 2010. As the list from iTunes shows the track could rise much higher during next weeks which could enable menowin as the recently most successful contestant from last year’s season.
For the video and song please check out the clipfish tube for yourself – embedding the video is not allowed
Of course also well known Christmas anthems start appearing inside the list: Last Christmas by WHAM! stops at 52 and Mariah Carey re-enters with All I Want For Christmas Is You at 75. Further down the charts one can find also Melanie Thornton with Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming) and the (unbelievably terrible) German contribution Küss mich, halt mich, lieb mich (Kiss me, hold me, love me) by Ella Endlich.
No Christmas story at all but a TV inspired spontaneous "hit" comes in at 63. The Supertalent show of November 19th presented Viennese Caroline Kreutzberger singing Pour que tu m’aimes encore. The song was a hit for Céline Dion in a lot of countries however not in Germany. Right after the performance the original enters the German list for the very first time.
Also RTL is keeping its videos available only on the channel’s own site – or go to Caroline’s facebook site for wathcing her version.
Two new German productions show up for new in the charts.
German dance project r.i.o. launched a succeeder to the hit Turn This Club Around. On Animal again U.S. born singer U-Jean delivers the voice. The track enters the list on downloads only at number 68 and stalls far behind the predecessor which ranges still at position 32. The full CD release of Animal appeared December 2nd – so wait a fortnight for comparing the power of both releases.
The next viral hit from Germany enters at number 100. It is a dance production – of course. FFF stands for „Fucking, feeding off, watching TV“ and the track is full with (minimal) slogans of our daily life. Originally released in early summer the track found its way to the clubs, into playlists and of course into the net. The video so far were watched over a million times on youtube. It is really on time for bringing the track to proper commercial hit status as well. The heads behind the track are Eichensohn/Davenstedt – two DJs who want to be unkown. They always appear as two clowns spreading the story that they met in Berlin buying a collection of Boney M.-hits. Well, doesn’t matter anyway who they are and where they come from – the track is probably one of the most consistent (mainstream) dance tracks of the last months. Enjoy the video!
For all non-German speaking people: there is an English version available also:
And please look for the Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Spanish ... version for your own!

Charts vom 19. Dezember 2008
Von 8 auf die 4 geht "This Is The Life" in der 20.(!) Top 10-Woche.
Top 20-Hit in Folge.
Do They Know It's Christmas?" „Happy Xmas (War Is Over)“ von John & Yoko with The Plastic Ono Band and The Harlem Community Choir schafft sogar einen kleinen Rekord.
Woche mit ihrem Durchbruch „My Man Is A Mean Man“ auf der 81. Woche.
Von 8 auf die 4 geht "This Is The Life" in der 20.(!) Top 10-Woche.
Top 20-Hit in Folge.
