2016: Alan Walker & Bonez MC Are The Winners

Most sold single of 2016 is Faded by Norwegian newcomer Alan Walker. It appeared first on January 15th and reached the top four weeks later where it spent ten weeks. The song sits pretty at #65 in the last issue of the year so it had a 51 weeks chart run so far. With two further top 10 hits (Sing Me To Sleep #10 and Alone #8) Alan Walker is the most succesfull new act in 2016 at all and establishes himself as one of the steadiest act. He is joined by Bonez MC & RAF Camora who also could launch three consecutive top 10 hits at the end of 2016. The triple also was completed by Calvin Harris who added two top 10 songs in 2016 to his account.

Back to Bonez MC. He is the newcomer of the year in some other terms. First of all his collaboration album with RAF Camora Palmen aus Plastik ranks as the best sold rap album of the year (#12 on the official album charts of the year) and at #5 (resp. #20) with partner Gzuz and High & Hungrig II. On the singles charts 35 tracks involving him were listed on the charts. Never before an act had that much tracks charting in one calendar year–even after Michael Jackson's death in 2009 "only" 23 songs charted again. Additionally Bonez MC had three times more than 10 tracks simultanously in the list. He definitely is the most present artist of the year 2016.

The number 1 statistics knows two further winners:
Rag'n'Bone Man delivered with Human the longest running #1 hit of the year. The song spent 12 weeks at the top. Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole was the last one doing so back in 2010. Singer Rory Graham also is the best performing British act since exactly 20 years. Back than Sarah Brightman had a 13 weeks run at #1 alongside Andrea Bocelli on the song Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro).

Second name to mention is Sean Paul. The singer appeared on two #1 hits in 2016.

Dec 9th 16: Record Breaking Human

As Human spends an 11th week at #1 it is now the longest running #1 hit of 2016. And no other song is able to beat that result. At the beginning of 2016 Adele still occupied the top spot with her Hello. Indeed that song also spent 11 week as the best sold–in 2016 she only had a short two weeks run at the top.
Additionally to the honour mentioned above Rag'n'Bone Man now is the only British solo male who continued as long since the beginning of the weekly charts in 2017. Going back to times when charts where issued twice per month Rory Graham stands in the shadow of Tom Jones whose Delilah had an massive two and a half months run (13 weeks) at the top of the German charts in May to July 1968.

Chöre by Mark Forster rises a further place now ranking at #3. It is the singer's third hit (respectively fourth hit if one counts the EFF collaboration as well) that reaches the top 3. Within three years.

After releasing a Christmas version of their hit Holz the 257ers see the song rising again: past week it had an 18–12 vault, this week the song lands at its peak position at #7 again. I'm afraid this ain't the end for that production …

The only new entry on the top 10 comes from Max Giesinger. His Wenn sie tanzt already peaked at #14 three weeks ago. This week the song again climbs up the list–his appearances on TV as alongside Andreas Gabalier on the MTV unplugged concert and on the Merci Udo show probably propelled his recent song.

Biggest gainers are–of course–Christmas classics. Last Christmas by Wham! started past week at #48, for the very first time one rank behind All I Want For Christmas Is You recorded by Mariah Carey. The song now jumps 34 places to #14. It is the best result since 2009. The Mariah Carey song can gain 25 places sitting pretty at #22 right now.
Also Hallelujah profits of the seasonal mood. The a capella version by the Pentatonix gain 28 places this week reaching a new peak for the composition at all with #24. The original recording by Leonard Cohen stopped at #27 a few weeks before.
And Wonderful Dream (Holidays Are Coming) by Melanie Thornton takes a leap of 39 ranks to #57.

Newly inside the top 20 Bad Ideas by alle farben is. It is the fourth top 20 hit within three years.

Highest new entry comes in at #21. It is Alan Walker's third single Alone that stops by. According to the recent iTunes list the song has some more power without the huge impact Faded had a year ago. That one rises once again 84–68 in its 48th chart week.

Since the new Apple Music commercial is aired on TV background song Ahnma by Beginner Feat. Gzuz & Gentleman turns up again. The track gains 24 places this week landing at #31, the highest position since late September.
Kerstin Ott performs better. Her album Herzbewohner enters #16–the hit single Die immer lacht (remixed by Stereoact can rise again 20 places to #65.

An oddity went on around the release of John Legend's recent album Darkness And Light. It didn't manage to chart but the single Love Me Now did so and now appears at a re-entry at #59. On its first appearance in October it reached #79.

The new version of The Mack by Nevada Feat. Mark Morrison and Fetty Wap goes 86-75 in its third week.

Nov 25th 16: Rag'n'Bone Man Best Performing British Solo Male since 1991

- with its ninth consecutive week at #1 Human by Rag'n'Bone Man now becomes the best performing single by an British solo male since 25 years. Additionally it is on the way to match the result of both best performing #1 singles in 2016 so far
- Chöre by Mark Forster enters #5 giving him his fourth top 5 hit under his own name plus the #1 song as EFF
- #1 track from the USA Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd Ft. Gucci Mane also storms German charts landing at #11 in its 3rd chart week
- also Bruno Mars enters the top 20 with XXIVK Magic. the song already spends seven weeks inside the charts
- after perfoming Love My Life on the Bambi award ceremony (live broadcasted on TV) Robbie Williams jumps 31 places to #17 giving him the best performance since three years. This ain't talking for the quality of the song itself which so far peaked at #48.
- at #86 a tune re-enters the list that wasn't seen for almost 20 years. The Mack by Nevada is a remake/re-interpretion of Return Of The Mack by Mark Morrison which reached #5 in 1996. The new version features vocals from the original recording–so his chart career now spans more than 20 years and he is the act with longest chart appearance of whole 2016 so far

Nov 18th 16: Leonard Cohen + Omnipresent German Rapstars

It is week no. eight for Human by Rag'n'Bone Man at the top of the German list. The song now matches the result of New Age by Marlon Roudette which also had an eight weeks run at #1 in autumn 2011. Both singers now are best performing British male solo performers of this century so far. 25 years back it was Phil Collins with Another Day In Paradise who performed better.

Whether Rory Graham will match or even break this record really depends on how strong Clean Bandit will perform next days. So far Rockabye climbs one place to runner's up position and finally brings British music back to full performance. The first time since January 2015 the first two places are occupied by British artists. Funny fact besides: The act at #2 back than also was Clean Bandit well performing with its last hit single Real Love.
With four tracks of the top 10 involving British acts the country really have a strong presence in music business right now.

Climbing seven places to #6 Mark Forster once again becomes the best performing German act and brings back to top 10 status a song in German. Chöre is part of the official movie score to Willkommen bei den Hartmanns which leads the German movie charts for a second week. It is Mark Forster's fourth top 10 hit under his own name and the second this year. As part of EFF he does have a third top 10 hit under his belt and so follows as second best performaing act of the year behind Justin Bieber.

Talking 'bout Justin Bieber: As Let Me Love You this weeks leaves the top 10 the longest running top 10 song now is Sound Of Silence in the version of USAmerican Disturbed. It sits pretty at #7 in its 13th top 10 week–spending 24 weeks at all inside the German charts.

The current #1 in the US is the biggest gainer inside the German charts. It is the first chart entry for Rae Sremmurd Black Beatles that jumps 56 places to #25. It is very likely that we will see the track rising further next weeks.

After the death of Canadian Leonard Cohen his most famous songs find a way into the list as there is at first Hallelujah first recorded in 1984. The song charts at #27 for the very first time–at least in the version of Leonard Cohen himself. It charted before by Jeff Buckley in 2012 (18 years after it was recorded) Xavier Naidoo in 2014 and by the Pentatonix a week ago. The best performance so far had the version of Xavier Naidoo peaking at #27 too.
Leonard Cohen himself only had one chart hit before. It was his single Lover Lover Lover that peaked at #9 in early 1975. After 42 and a half year the singer is back in the list. It is the longest absence from the list since weekly charts are released. If one considers the monthly lists as well Leonard Cohen is beaten by Paul Kuhn who had an absence of 43 years and 153 days, Scott McKenzy who re-entered the list after 44 years and 197 days and Evy Jacob who reappeared in 2011 as member of the Dschungel Allstars after 45 years and 241 days. In June 1965 she charted as member of the Jacob Sisters.
With a span of almost 43 years Leonard Cohen has the third longest presence on the weekly lists after José Felícíano and Paul McCartney.
Leonard Cohen has two more tracks invading the charts. At #61 his very first single Suzanne from 1967 charts for the very first time. In France the song shot to #3 this current week. At #81 the title track of his latest album You Want It Darker appears. The album meanwhile occupies #2.

A few places below the next teaser track for KC Rebell's new album Abstand arrives. The track calls TelVision and features his mate PA Sports as well as Kianush and Kollegah. Latter one now collects his 50th chart entry at all. This result falls short behind the one of Depeche Mode and Scooter but only needed four years to achieve such an amount.
The same week Sido can launch a 45th chart hit with Masafaka landing at #65. He now overtook Michael Jackson (44 hits) and falls short of The Rolling Stones (46 hits).
All this sounds impressive but is only cute by watching the result of master Bushido. He appears this current week as featured artist on a 62nd chart entry mentioning his name. (Statements by Shindy at #67) It is as much as Madonna collected in her whole career. But the rapper additionally has three more hits undercover as a member of Berlins Most Wanted and 23. He officially can be called the second most active artist of all time. Leader of the list still is Peter Alexander with 82 different entries.

Rising tracks to watch:
Sexual by Neiked Feat. Dyo going 62–46 in its fifth week
Bad Ideas by alle farben rising slightly 57–47 in its fifth week

Nov 11th 16:

Rag'n'Bone Man spends a seventh week at the German top with his Human. The gap between it and runners up Would I Lie To You by David Guetta this week again widens. So Human is definitely the song of this autumn.

The only new entry inside the top 10 for sure is an aspirant for next weeks' #1. It is Rockabye by Clean bandit Feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie which jumps 12 places to #3 this week. It is the third top 5 hit out of five chart entries for the band and the second this current year for the Jamaican singer Sean Paul.

By rising two places to #4 The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk reach the top 5 in their seventh chart week.

The first time since Oktober 2013 there is no German production inside the Top 10. Highest German song is Ohne mein Team by Bonez MC & RAF Camora sitting pretty at #11 in its tenth chart week. The album Palmen aus Plastik just left the top 20 after eight chart weeks which is quite impressive as usually German rap albums leave the list quite fast after starting with huge impact.
On the way of becoming the next German hit Chöre by Mark Forster stops at #13 after a 35 places jump. Probably we will see the song having top10 status in next week's time.
German aspirant number two lands at #15 in the face of Max Giesinger who launches a second top 20 hit after his surprising #2 hit 80 Millionen. His new single calls Wenn sie tanzt and already spends a sixth week in the list.

After candidate Wolfgang performed Die immer lacht in TV show Das Supertalent the song by Stereoact feat. Kerstin Ott jumps 28 places to #43 again. It is the highest position since early September. The song officially is scheduled as the second best selling single of 2016 so far.
Biggest gainer of the week sits at #49. It is Robbie Williams' new single Love My Life the rockets up 48 places in its third chart week and for sure it will rise further in next week's time.
And a third big gainer of 33 places lands at #60 as Juju On That Beat by Zay Hilfigerr & Zayion McCall can attract some more fans.

The highest new entry comes in at #59. It is a song becoming wider fame at the very end of the week. Anyway Hallelujah was probably the most loved song of the recent Pentatonix album A Pentatonix Christmas. It started selling well as an album cut and got a final boost after the news of Leonard Cohen's death spread around. So it lands as the third version of the song inside the German charts. The original never charted so far–it will do so in next week's time and for sure end the strange situation of having Xavier Naidoo's take on the tune as the best performing of all.

Nov 4th 16:

What a race! The midweek charts just saw Would I Lie To You by David Guetta leading the list, at the end of the week Rag'n'Bone Man with Human gains the crown of being the most sold track. For a sixth week which makes singer Rory Graham the most successful British solo male since autumn 2011 when Marlon Roudette had an eight weeks run at the top with New Age.
No movement at the top–no movement inside the top 5.

The first real mover comes in at #9 in the face of James Arthur who sees his current song Say You Won't Let Go flying 12 places up. It is the second tio 10 hit for the British singer after his debut Impossible that achieved #5 in spring 2013.

New inside the top 20 are Clean Bandit Feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie with their single Rockabye that goes 28-15 in its second week. It is the freshest tune inside the top 20 and brings the Jamaican dancehall star for a second time in 2016 in.
At #19 Miami Yacine enters the top 20 with Kokaina for the very first time.

Oct 21st 16

A fifth week at the top for Rag'n'Bone Man and his Human. And for a second week the song is #1 in all three German speaking countries.

In its 20th chart week The Sound Of Silence by Disturbed rises again three places stopping at the runners up position. It is already the eighth top 10 week of this song. In Austria the song already had a seven weeks run at #1 back in June/July this year.

At #3 Sia's The Greatest stops. It climbs one further place in its seventh chart week and is the direct succeeder of #1 hit Cheap Thrills.
Another #1 succeeder stops at #4 with Would I Lie To You. The cover/remix of the 1992 #1 hit by Charles & Eddie gives French DJ David Guetta a second top 5 entry this year after his EURO 2016 anthem This One's For You. Collaborating Cedric Gervais + Chris Willis reach the German top 10 for the very first time.

One of the gainers of the week again are Lil Kleine & Ronnie as their Stoff und Schnaps rise 11 places to #17. The former Dutch #1 hit is the second Dutch production inside the top 20. The other one comes from Martin Garrix sitting pretty at #14 with In The Name Of Love (accompanied by Bebe Rexha).

Oct 14th 16:

Rag'n'Bone Man spends a third week at the very top with his Human. He is now the best performing British solo male singer since Passenger's who hit the top with http://popschredder.blogspot.de/2013/03/passenger-let-her-go.htmlLet Her Go for five weeks in March/April 2013.

First time since January the number of productions inside the top 20 involving European acts reaches 15. The highest result in 2015 was 18.

October 7th 16:

It is the second week for Rag'n'Bone Man and his Human at the very top of the German charts. Also #2 and #3 are static–so this is a week of solid music taste.

Sept 30th 16: Rag'n'Bone Man Goes No.1

In its 8th chart week Human by Rag'n'Bone Man goes #1. The singer is the 9th act in 2016 that can enter #1 with its first chart entry at all. In 2015 only eight acts did so. It is also the fifth consecutive #1 song involving European acts. And it is the first British production since early January this current year–which is indeed a long absence from the top.

53 years after its first release The Sound Of Silence becomes a top 5 hit in Germany. The version of USAmerican band Disturbed rises two places to #4 this chart issue. In the USA, Japan, Australia and Austria the original recording from the 60s already went Top 5, even topping the list in the USA.

SIA already had a #1 hit this year with Cheap Thrills in April. Five months later succeeder The Greatest enters the top 10. Featured artist on this recording is Kendrick Lamar who reaches a personal career peak by landing at #7.

The highest new entry lands at #13 in the likes of The Weeknd Ft. Daft Punk. Starboy is their first collaboration and the first chart appearance for the French electronic duo since its #1 hit Get Lucky back in 2013.

There are only three songs new inside the list and two songs re-entering. It is already the second time in 2016 that there are only three new entries (but we do had already two weeks with only two new entries) and the fifth tine having five songs inside the list that were not the week before.
