11-08: La Gaga is not (yet) no.1

Was anybody really believin’ that Lady Gaga could crash right into the no.1 spot? Well – the start of her digital release was quite impressive. If one had a look at the iTunes world charts overview on Monday last week one would have seen only one track at the top: Born This Way. Kind of amazing. And boring at the same time. – La Gaga is selling her new track like hot cakes –or as we would say in German like hot semmels (rolls) – but she misses the real giant impact one could expect. In the UK she is still at no.3 for the second week. Here in Germany she shoots up to no.2 – on download sales only I have to add. And that’s indeed spectacular. We do not see online only singles that often as high in the chart as other national charts do. The German system is based on the amount of money a track generated over a week. Meaning: a CD single for appr. 3,99 EUR counts three times more than a mp3 sale for 0,99 EUR. – So we could say Lady Gaga is selling for sure the double of Bruno Mars whos grenade is still at the top – for him the physical sales count heavily.

Lady Gaga misses no.1 – this week. With the video still not released and the CD release scheduled for 11 March we will see La Gaga at the top for sure in the next for weeks. It is Lady Gagas eighth track entering the German charts. All of them went top 10 – only her first single Just Dance and later LoveGame missing top 3. She stands now in a row with Mark Medlock who had 8 consecutive hits charting inside top 5 – but last year he missed with his single Maria Maria even the top 20. The other recent act having 8 consecutive top hits (all inside top5) and still waiting for the ninth one is German Tokio Hotel. To reach the top of this unofficial ranking Lady Gaga needs 10 more top 10 hits in a row – then she will beat all time stars The Beatles.

Do you want some more statistical gossip about Born This Way? Well here is: the track is the so far highest new entry of 2011. Wow!

The new Lady Gaga could become Natalia Kills. The American artist has featured herself with a mini serial of webisodes calling Love Kills. Her first single Mirrors is first released in middle Europe. At least Germany has catched fire – the track starts as the best new CD release of the week at no.10. I guess the US and the UK will follow soon.
