Hot Spot 05-17-13

Capital Cities and their Safe And Sound holds firm a second week at the Top of Germany’s singles list. So we are whitness very calm times. Since November 2012 we only see number 1 hits which at least stay for two weeks or longer at the top. The last time we had a situation like this was back in early 2010 when between end of January and first week in June five tracks reached the top for at least two weeks. Than the Eurovision success of Lena broke the smooth way of number 1 changes. Well … we are just watching some euro trash on TV and bidding for the one or another act …

New at number 2 is Xavier Naidoo with his teasing single from the upcoming album Bei meiner Seele. The track comes in three different versions–so everybody can find a beloved mix. The song so far is the best ranking track produced by a German artist since October past year when Wankelmut had his heydays with a remix of Asaf Avidan’s Reckoning Song.

Daft Punk featuring Pharrell Williams reach a new peak with Get Lucky. The song lands at number 4 in its third chart week and is the most successful track at all of both artists.

Meine Soldaten by MAXIM is used in the commercial spot for dooloop.tv. After an impressive start five weeks ago the track returns to the Top 20 after heavy rotation on TV. Another song used for a commercial campaign can be found rising 52–37 with YourTouch by Blake Lewis.

Without any big campaign Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell rises into the Top 20 too. This journey probably ain’t at the end yet.

Last week the DSDS impact was very low. Only one track made it into the list. This week the show is a little more present in the current survey. Three years old Get Shaky by The Ian Carey Project re-enters at number 46 after Lisa Wohlgemuth performed the track live on May 4th.

Three weeks ago Kid Cudi released his new album Indicud. Probably thenew stuff also emerged a demand in some older tracks. Pursuit Of Happiness–his last chart entry from spring 2012–returns this current week and lands on a new peak: number 51.

Released on Monday 29th of April This Is What It Feels Like only had half a week for entering the survey last issue. Now with full weekend sales Armin van Buuren Featuring Trevor Guthrie rise 99–57.

Germany has a new number 1. Safe And Sound rises 7–1 and makes Capital Cities the second new act this current year that reach the Top with the first single. Of course Capital Cities have some support by a TV commercial campaign of mobile company vodafone. The release of the single is scheduled for May 17th–so we should be aware having the song for some further weeks ranking as the best selling one.

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. + Pharrell is on the way to become a massive hit. So far not listed at the main download portals the track jumps 56–27 in its 3rd chart week. Switzerland already reports an impressive number 5–so there are much more success to come in Germany too.

The Voice Kids is the casting show that this week supports most some hits. First of all Lights originally recorded by Ellie Goulding gets some new power after the song was one of the battles on April 26th. Second song profiting from the performances is Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth Feat. Emeli Sande. It re-enters at number 42.
Also Miriam Bryant re-enters with Finders Keepers. Her song had a single chart appearance at the tail end last year. Now it shots to number 46 reaching a not expected peak.
Other winner is Bruno Mars and his Locked Out Of Heaven.
And really surprising: some tracks rise allthough they were performed a week before. Aitziber’sperformance of In Love With The World generates some new demand and propells the song back to the list at number 56, Judith’s song from a week before Call Me Maybe makes a jump 96–64 and I Won’t Let You Go by James Morrison also rises 76–65.

DSDS only can help Angel by Sarah McLachlan to number 60 after Lisa Wohlgemuth performed the song.

Very slowly the next Justin Bieber single catches fire. An official release date so for not was reported but All Around The World rises on album downloads alone up to number 53 this current week.

Also slowly the single from Thirty Seconds To Mars Up In The Air rises again. It now profits from the freshly released video clip.

A slow burner also is Pompeii by Bastille. Released in February the track now rises up the list reaching number 71 this week.

After his album The Day You Live Forever was released Ryan Sheridan also gains a single hit. Jigsaw enters at number 72 as digital album cut.

A statistical fact at last: This current week ist the one which gives will.i.am a 45th appearance in the list in 2013 alone. So now he matches the result of German rapper CRO so far. Hard on the heels of both follows Emeli Sandé who falls only one appearance short. As we right now count the 19th chart week of 2013 it means all of the three acts had at least two tracks inside the list in every single week of the year.

A slight change at the German top. After Just Give Me A Reason is out on CD the track climbs the last little step reaching number 1 for the first time. It replaces Let Her Go after five weeks which slides to number 2. Just Give Me A Reason is the third number 1 hit for P!NK. It follows the Lady Marmalade anthem from 2001 and the single So What that throned at the top for three weeks in 2008. Statistical trivia at the side: P!NK already is the second artist achieving a third number 1 hit in 2013. Back in January it was Britney Spears doing so by throwing Scream & Shout onto the top. As you remember also that song was a duet.

Current duetting partner Nate Ruess stands for the very first time in his career at number 1.

There are three new entries inside the Top 10:

will.i.am Ft. Justin Bieber rise 4 places into the Top 10 with #ThatPower. Next week also physical CD release will have an effect on the list. So be prepared watching the track rising some places higher. So far will.i.am launches his third Top 10 hit in a row and Mr. Justin Bieber reaches a new peak position at all at number 7.

Also the Imagine Dragons still climb higher and higher. Radioactive holds at number 9 in its 11th chart week. And at number 10 the Vodafon song Save And Sound by Capital Cities stops.

This all gives us nine US productions inside the German Top 10. Oops–something seems completely strange right now in German music business.

Highest German production still is Bilder im Kopf by Sido which slides three places to number 17. Last time the best sold German production ranked as low was in May two years ago, when slowly starting Still by Jupiter Jones reached only number 19.

weekly DSDS effects
Show number five was aired on April 13th. One of the winners is the song performed by Lisa Wohlgemuth: Lights originally recorded by Ellie Goulding returns to Top 20 status after the show. Also I Need Your Love profits of the show and enters the Top 20 at number 20.

DJane HouseKat should thank the show as well. Her second chart hit All The Time just crept at number 52 in February. After it was performed on DSDS by Tim David Weller & Susan Albers it rebounds back to list and lands at a new peak: number 44.

GNTM soundtrack
Finally Spectrum (Say My Name) by Florence + the Machine catches fire. After it was used on Germany’s Next Top Model and released on the compilation of the show as well it motors up the list as a single track too. This current week it lands at a new peak at number 32.

In Contrast Sam And The Womp! are completely new to the German list. Their track Bom Bom was a number 1 hit in Britain past September. Here the proper release of the single is scheduled for May 3rd–two weeks before it can enter the charts as a download track. Watching the forums about the show one should recognize that this track is one of the most wanted of the show at all. Similarities to Jungle Drum–which made Emiliana Torrini a star four years ago–ain’t probably a coincidence.

Further down the list Lindsey Stirling re-enters with Crystallize and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs once again sneak in with Heads Will Roll–a four years old track that became a hit thanks to the model casting on TV.

And also The voice Kids generates demand for some songs again. This time Va Va Voom by Nicki Minaj is the lucky one that re-enters the highest at number 41. Juryman Tim Bendzko also profits from the presence on TV. His Wenn Worte meine Sprache wären re-enters the list and ends a seven months long abstinence from the charts.

Almost at the end of the list also Katy Perry dips in for a single week after her Firework was performed by a young talent on the show.

New albums
Michael Bublé celebrates his new album To Be Loved at number 2 in the album list–the single It’s A Beautiful Day also takes a big jump from 90 to 28. It is the highest place a song of Michael Bublé ever reached.

The title track of Prinz Pi’s album Kompass ohne Norden reaches the list while the full album shots to number 1.

Scheduled for a release in June Blurred Lines enters the list already now. It gives Robin Thicke a second chart entry after 10 years.
