28th February 2014: MR PROBZ is No.1 – Bushido tries to

As expected MR PROBZ goes No.1 with having his hit Waves released also physically on CD. It is the first European production occupying the Top in 2014. The last one doing so was Changes by French Faul & Wad Ad Vs. PNAU. Obviously there is a European sound called Deep House at this moment which represents the continental European mood perfectly.

With MR PROBZ being No.1 there is a Dutch act at the German top after 9 years. It was the casted children act Ch!pz that had the honour last. The fortune lasted two weeks back than. Let’s wait what power the new definition of Deep House can emerge.

No.1 pop sensation Clean Bandit from Britain also arrives in Germany. After Rather Be was used several times around the coverage to the Olympic Games in Sochi it takes a 22–12 leap and probably will arrive the Top 10 in next weeks time when the physical single is released fully also. The same record setting status as they got in their home country is in continental Europe far away.

Last week’s highest new entry the cover Shot Me Down by David Guetta feat Skylar Grey reaches #13 after a full sales week. It now ranks higher than the original from 1966 by Cher and it is the best performing track for David Guetta since September 2012.

German gangsta rap invasion
The highest new entry comes from a German gangster rapper. It’s not at all the one who hits the top spot in the album list. It is someone who I would call the next generation. He already grabed the No.1 of the album list together with Farid Bang a year ago. Now Kollegah announces his new album King with the single track Alpha. It lands at number 15 which remarks a new peak for him in the single’s survey and which is in fact his first solo entry in the charts.

Talking ’bout next generation: Kollegah also got a feature on master Bushido’s new album Sonny Black (that’s the one at No.1 for the long players). The highest standalone track from that album is Gangsta Rap Kings on which Kollegah is featured. The track swaps in at number 45. And I really got the feeling that a lot of fans loaded the song cause of Kollegah’s appearance. Master Bushido had his last Top10 entry in the single’s list three and a half year ago.

Anyway–Bushido’s new album brings some more tracks to chart honour. Six tracks are cherry picked–making the rapper the artist with most different tracks on charts in 2014 so far. Even summarized within the current decade he is the German act having most tracks entered the survey. The result of 20 tracks is more than Rihanna (19) has under her belt but one short of Flo Rida. On the all time list Bushido this week matches the result of The Beatles that had 41 different chart entries.

A third Gangsta rapper is very present on the list this week. Farid Bang announced a new album for April too. In advance he releases one track to another. This week the almost love rap Dein Weg enters the list at #86.

Up on the list ... it goes for Trumpets–the new offering by Jason Derulo. The track rises 71–49 in its third week.

Newcomer alert at number 85. Former Star Search finalist and child star Senta-Sofia now is of full age. So she took a new name and changed her musical style. As Oonagh she released her first album. As support act to Santiano’s tour she reaches a wider audience which gives her a first entry with her single Gäa.

So–if one had counted the many new entries this week: 14 plus 5 tracks re-entering the list. That is the biggest turnover of the yet young year 2014. The calm weeks definitely are over.

21st of February 2014: MR PROBZ is coming - David Guetta is back

Still Happy occupies the number 1 slot. It is the 6th week for the song making it as successful as both nr.1 hits of Pharrell Williams together.

Gainer of the week and still one week ahead of a full CD release is Mr Probz. His Waves remixed by Robin Schulz goes 27–2 and the question is: will it strike number 1 next week? So far it is the best performing Dutch act since–erm– Ch!pz in 2005. With Martin Garrix still hanging on at number 17 we have the very rare situation of two Dutch acts simultaneously in the Top 20.

After 10 weeks inside the charts Katy Perry’s Dark Horse manages to break the Top 10. Still the video clip is not available in full and the CD single release two weeks ahead.

Also AVICII sees his upcoming single Addicted To You rising as an album cut which so far misses full promotion. Although the song stops at number 14 this week and is now the highest ranking track of the Swedish DJ.

The act with the strongest chart presence in this current decade is on the go to his next step. Shot You Down is the actual release offered by French DJ David Guetta. Released on 10th February digitally the track only had three sale days counting for that current list. It is enough to throw the track to number 24 which is the highest new entry for this week and the 600th appearance in the list since beginning of 2010. Vocals on the track come from Skylar Grey who had a well recognized start in 2011–but later was a little silent. Now she is back and probably can give her career just the missing kick for being a well received star.

Originally the song was recorded by Cher in 1965 giving her a number 17 entry at the charts that days. The much more famous version in 2014 comes from Nancy Sinatra who recorded her take in 1966. It became popular by the use in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill in 2004 for the first time. A remixed version by Audio Bullys went #3 in Great Britain a year later.

Thomas Gottschalk still can launch hits
For two weeks Heart To Heart was bouncing around the lower end of the list. Now the song starts getting some more attention after James Blunt was performing it on the new show of Thomas Gottschalk. The song leaps 88–40–predecessor Bonfire Heart still performs better at #34.

Also Irish Boyzone benefits from staging at the show. Their album BZ20 released in November past year was featuring the single Love Will Save The Day. In Germany nobody cared about that song until Friday, 7th February. Now Boyzone does have its first single chart entry since 2008.

On the way up
Carlprit enables his biggest hit since his chart debut two years ago. Remember To Forget uses a well calculated sound formula and brings the producer a second time to the upper half–#46 is the result for this week.

Released midweek Invisible by U2 entered the list at number 97 last week. Now with full weeks sales the song jumps to number 48 giving the veterans a second Top50 entry this months after a four years abstinence from the charts.

DSDS juror Kay One sees his ballad Ich hass es dich zu lieben from the album Rich Kidz rising. It is not scheduled for a proper release. Number 52 is a respectable result.

Jason Derulo offers a next single: Trumpets goes 94–71.

Another TV influencend entry
There was a time when criminal serial Tatort hit the streets and launched big hits of its soundtrack. These days are gone long time. A small shade of that fame is blinking right now in the charts. On 9th of February 2014 the last episode with the duo Ritter & Stark was aired. It was a Goodbye after 36 episodes shot since 2001. The significant soundtrack of the episode came from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. The title track of their last album Push The Sky Away was used heavily within the 90 min. As an effect the track can enter the singles list at number 77. It is only the third single chart hit for the Australian band. The last Tatort connected hit entered the chart almost exactly a year ago in the face of SCHMIDT who peaked with her song Heart Shaped Gun at #37.

14th of February 2014:

Another week we see Pharrell Williams Happy about being No.1 in Germany. It is the fifth week at the Top which means Happy is the longest standing No.1 for the singer. Additionally his total of number 1 weeks is 11 which makes him as successful as AVICII. Only Rihanna had more in this decade: a full 16 weeks at the Top since January 1st 2010.

REVOLVERHELD finally has a fourth Top 10 hit with Ich lass für dich das Licht an rising 11–7. The new demand comes due to its release on CD. According to chart position the song already has overtaken Halt dich an mir fest which is so far the most sold single of the band. The highest position REVOLVERHELD gained with Helden 2008 in exactly that year.

A fortnight before its release on CD Can't Remember To Forget You goes Top 10. It is Shakira's 11th Top 10 single in Germany – Rihanna performs much better. So far she has 21 Top 10 singles under her belt–matching the result of ABBA. For becoming the act with most Top 10 singles she has to add some more. The all time record still is an unbelievable amount of 36 Top 10 hits set by Caterina Valente between 1954 and 1962–of course only if you count her hits as Club Italia/Indonesia/Honolulu to herself. Otherwise the record is held by Peter Alexander with 35 Top 10 hits under his own name.

Looks like German producer ZEDD right now becomes a mainstream star. His single Stay The Night (featuring Haley Williams of Paramor) enters the Top 20 at number 15 one week ahead of its release as a proper CD single. In the US he already is a star–decorated with an Grammy award as Best Dance Recording for predecessor Clarity three weeks ago.

TV soap Berlin – Tag und Nacht launches a third hit. After Ole (2012) and Chris Prinz (2013) it is now JJ alias Très Jolie who released a production. Bow! (You Gotta Kick It) lands at number 20 which marks the highest position for a track related to the soap.

Single number 4 from AVICII's album True is the track Addicted To You which will be released as full single in April. Already now the track becomes hit status by rising 95–28. Predecessor Hey Brother performs still well inside the Top 20.

DSDS infected hits
Since 8th of January the 11th season of DSDS (Deutschland sucht den Superstar) is aired. So far only jury member Kay One benefitted from the new presence–his hits V.I.P. and Keep Calm Fuck You returned to the list and sneaking through the bottom down regions of the list. This week also Ich hass es dich zu lieben returns to number 91.

The first song performed by a contestant this week gets in the list. It is the ballad When I Look At You originally recorded by Miley Cyrus that returns at number 60. The original chart appearance stopped in August 2010 at number 85–so this is a new peak. The album the song is taken from The Time Of Our Lives is right now digitally re-released. What an impact for a simple TV show.

7th of February 2014: Marteria and Grammy Awards

It is the fourth week at the Top for Pharrell Williams. Happy now matches the result of the first Pharrel No.1 appearance Get Lucky back 9 months ago. Still that track bounces through the list. This week it goes 75–43 in its 41st week after it was awarded as "Best song of the year" at the 56th Grammy award ceremony.

One week ahead of the album release MARTERIA is the one who gets the crowd crazy. Kids (2 Finger an den Kopf reaches a new peak at number 6. Two places down the next track arrives in the face of OMG!. Finally at number 49 Bengalische Tiger as the third pr-released track of the album re-enters the list. All three are produced by The Krauts–probably Germany’s most skillful producer team of the moment.

British Bastille launches a second Top 10 hit with Of The Night stopping at number 10. The mashup cover track brings both tunes Rhythm Is A Dancer and The Rhythm Of The Night for a second time to Top 10 status.

Yes–Katy Perry is still in the shape of making hits. Dark Horse arrives at number 20 and eclipses the peak of predecessor Unconditionally that stopped at 22. The reason why the track now becomes so popular certainly is a video by actor Vin Diesel who is happily dancing to the song.

Additionally Katy Perry performed the song live at the Grammy Award cerenomy on 26th January in Los Angeles. Frankly I wouldn't count that event as one of the big hit maker for Germany–this year shows me completely wrong. I did mention the sudden jumps of Get Lucky and Dark Horse. I have to add the 79–39 jump of Radioactive by Imagine Dragons which was awarded as Best Rock Performance and performed live also. And of course Same Love by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Feat. Mary Lambert returns to number 88 after the big same sex marriage performance at the ceremony.

On the way up:
A next Dutch DJ shows up on the German market. DJ Probz sees his Waves rising 69–41. In his home country the track peaked at number 6 a few months ago.

Lorde sits pretty at number 18 with her hit Royals. The succeeder comes in the face of Team which goes 65–42.

British Rudimental launches a new all time peak by getting Free (Ft. Emeli Sandé) to number 44. Also Fettes Brot announced a new single. Für immer immer already goes 80–48 as a digital album cut three weeks before the CD version is available.

And also James Blunt comes with a new song. Heart To Heart is announced to be released on February 3rd. A week before the track enters the German list at number 65.

Further stories
Will Ordinary Love become a regular hit? End of December the song from U2 entered the list as part of the Nelson Mandela Tribute album. Now the song is back reaching a new peak at number 52 in its fourth chart week. It is the first chart hit for the Irish band since 2009.

A real sleeper hit arrives at number 58. Released three years ago, remixed one year ago Sail by Awolnation now catches fire in Europe. The song peaked within the British list at number 17 a few weeks ago. Now the audience in Germany seems to discover the songs quality too.

Peter Maffay is on top of the album list with Wenn das so ist. The most loved song from that album is Hallelujah which goes 98–67. It is the highest rank featuring Peter Maffay as the main artist since 2007. The curious thing about that song is that it ain't announced as an official single so far.

Talkin' bout BEYONCÉ: So far the singer is mentioned very often as the commercial sensation of late 2013 and early 2014. Maybe that's right for the USA and the British market. In Germany her album at number 11 and both leading tracks XO and Drunk In Love only make it to number 68 respectively number 70 this current week. Is this what a sensation looks like?
