New Number 1: Lucenzo feat Don Omar

Germany does have a new Nr.1. After seven weeks at the top Alexandra Stan has to move right away keeping the way clean for Danza Kuduro by French–Puerto Rican collaboration Lucenzo feat Don Omar. It took them almost two complete months to reach the top – a slow rise seen not that often. The last track that entered the number 1 slot in it’s ninth week or later was We Are The People by Australian Empire Of The Sun at the end of 2010. Of course that track went on top after it was used for a commercial and re-released on CD and it’s 13 weeks rise includes the first chart run stalled at number 65. – The last track reaching number 1 within it’s original chart run in at least 9 weeks was Sexy Bitch by David Guetta feat. Akon in October 2009. By an incident that track also was the last by an French act topping the German charts. Two top hits within only two years – that’s a short period. French tracks – or French DJs to be more precise – are much adored in Germany right now.

The other man of the new number 1 hit comes from Puerto Rico. From Germany that island looks to most people as a part of the U.S. – that’s probably the reason why only a few might remember the last act from that country topping the German charts. It was Ricky Martin who had the honour of being 6 weeks noted at number 1 in summer 1998 with The Cup Of Life / La Copa de la Vida – and you certainly know which event supported the track massively. This year there is no such reason – it is obviously the infectious beat and style that attracted more and more people here. Probably it’s use in the movie Fast & Furious 5 made the track popular the very first weeks after it’s release on CD – later it became the right party soundtrack carrying all the hopes for a few really sunny summer days this year. You can find the full story behind the track here.

Do you want more statistics ’bout the new number 1? Well here it is – it is the third chart new comer this year that can bring the first hit to the top.

Highest new entry this week comes from Finland. Export band number 1 is Sunrise Ave which now offers a second single from their album Out Of Style. Their huge hit hollywood hills still sells very well – new single I Don’t Dance really has to struggle for outselling the predecessor. It lands at position 33 in its first chart week.

Highest new German track comes in at 46. Dark rock band ASP can launch their third chart hit. Wechselbalg (Changeling) is the first single taken from their upcoming album fremd (Foreign). Since UNHEILIG had their huge success the Gothic style seems really common in Germany. Let’s wait, whether ASP can follow the path. So far the new single performs better than the predecessor two years ago.

Is There More Than French Dancefloor Sound?

Man of the week is David Guetta. Promoting his upcoming album Nothing But The Beat he drives all folks insane. Including his first digital promotianal single Titanium he has three tracks inside the German sales Top 20. I don’t have any statistics about such feats – but it is for sure not often seen inside the German list. – Having two tracks inside the recent Top 20 we find Pitbull, JLO and Lil Wayne. Sounds like a very boring list, isn’t it?

Back to French DJs which right now perform very well in Germany. Lucenzo entered Number 2 with Danza Kuduro and Martin Solveig is on the rise with a second hit Ready 2 Go which for the first time enters the upper half of the German charts. It took him 12 weeks to do so – reminds a lot of the chart run of first hit Hello.

German tracks & productions
Only slight changes between the most sold German tracks. Still leading the pack is Tim Bendzko and his Nur noch kurz die Welt retten sliding 2–3 in the all over list. Second most sold German track is Still by Jupiter Jones. The track now collects its 23rd week inside the charts and no sign of decreasing requests. Best new comer of last week Casper sees lower interest in his track So Perfekt that is tumbling 14–22.

Best new German track lands at position 28. It is Cassandra Steen and her Tanz (Dance). It is a very soulful and romantic singalong pop song about the good feeling of being in the mood for dancing and enjoying the lucky sides of life.

It is the second single from Cassandra’s album Mir so nah (So Close To Me), it is available only as digital download.

Selling probably a lot of copies less but having a full CD release in shops German band KLEE brings the new release willst du bei mir bleiben (Do you wanna stay with me) to position 29. It is a very romantic ballad very different to former releases. The new album Aus lauter Liebe (Out of sheer love) is scheduled for 26th of August and it seems they try to fit recent demand for romantic and almost acoustic love songs. Personally I liked the sound of theband a few years ago much more.

Further new Stuff on sale
The new background sound for trailers of music TV programme VIVA is available on CD. It is Jona Vark offered by Australian duo Gypsy & The Cat. The sound is very similar to famous Australian pop act Empire Of The Sun probably more focussed on the sound of their guitars. The track can sell enough amount to enter at position 27 – it is beside SIA the second Australian act this week new in the list.

Another TV show with a completely different audience : Die Alm (The Alp) broadcasted by private TV Pro7. In 2004 this trash event was premiered in summer time. A few V.I.P.s have to live in the mountains in a little cottage like 100 years ago. They are surveiled by cameras and every day they had to solve some problems or exercises. The audience can choose every episode who has to go. This combination of Big Brother and Dschungel-Camp wasn’t that succesfull as expected. But obviously the station lacks new entertaining concepts. So in 2011 a second season is scheduled starting right now on 20th of August. Two weeks ahead the title track is available on CD. The production team chose folcloristic band dorfrocker (Village Rockers) for performing it. Title is Auf der Alm (At The Alp) – and the single enters the German list at position 60. Probably it will rise further in a fortnight.

The trailer for the show:

Still a new comer band is Auletta. The boys make music since 2005 but found a broader audience first last year when they participated in Stefan Raab’s Bundesvision Song Contest where they stalled at number 14. The appearance in the show (and before on TV) made them charting for a single week with Sommerdiebe (Summer Thieves). Since than they offered another album earlier this year and now the next one: Make Love Work. The title track is available as a download single and can enter the German sales chart at position 80. Listening to the track I guess they will have a future in music business. The sound of the band is well made pop rock featuring catchy tunes highly infectious refrains and slightly romantic lyrics. All what German music buyers love and really in the steps of Jupiter Jones et al. All they need is a tiny commercial boost by their company. So keep fingers crossed EMI will do so.

Watching the video I am wondering why a lot of video clips right now using letters and words floating through the clip. Is that the actual state of the art?

New sound from Berlin offered by the British-Australian project Lovers Electric enters at position 89. Beating Like A Drum is the leading single of the Impossible Dreams album and I am quite impressed by the romantic pop rock … It is – by the way – the first time they appeared somewhere in the official sales charts. So Germany does becoming them.

French DJs at the very Top

Alexandra Stan now has the honour of being the act occupying the Number 1 spot for the longest time in 2011. This recent chart week Mr. Saxobeat holds a 7th week right at the top. It is the longest running Nr.1 track since we saw Over The Rainbow by Israel IZ Kamakawiwo’ole spending 12 week at the most sold single in Germany back in October to December last year.

Rising up one place Lucenzo now is the second French act with a Number 2 hit this year. The other of course is David Guetta who climbed to the runner’s up position with Sweat (besides Snoop Dogg) in April. David Guetta also is the last French act at the Top of the German charts. It was in early October 2009 when Sexy Bitch occupied the Nr.1 for a single week.

David Guetta also is the artist behind the track entering highest this week. Titanium is the first of three promotional singles from the French DJ’s upcoming album Nothing But The Beat. The track enters on download sales only landing at number 8. It is the ninth Guetta track in 2011 that can enter the list. So he is far and away the most productive artist of now. Only Rihanna can come close with 7 chart hits in 2011. Having five consecutive Top 10 hits (4 alone in 2011) is another impressive feat. Last act doing so was Lady Gaga who collected 8 Top 10 singles in a row interrupted this year by her single Judas that only gained position 23.

The voice of Titanium is Australian SIA (Sia Furler) who earned some European chart experiences in the UK at the beginning of the Millenium. In Germany she now debuts – at least in the single’s survey. Her album We Are Born had a short visit inside the album list in last July. She is the first Australian act entering the German Top 10 since Empire Of The Sun grabed number 1 in December last year.

Slow And Long Running Hits

It is still holiday time in Germany. Meaning the recent chart is quite calm and the industry avoids releasing hot new tracks. Only 3 new entries plus 5 re-entries ... well ...

DJ Antoine, Timati & Kalenna profit of lacking competitors and rise further two places to number 4. It is a proper season’s hit now. What it means for the careers of DJ Antoine and Timati I told before. US singer Kalenna now matches the position she entered as a member of DirtyMoney in spring this year. 2011 is the year of her big debut with two Top 5 hits right now.

Slight changes under the best German productions. Leading the pack still Tim Bendzko with Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (number 2) followed by newcomer Casper with So Perfekt (14) and Jupiter Jones’ Still. All three kind of intellectual pop music in sharp difference to most of international productions selling in huge amounts.

On the rise again are Milk&Sugar remixing the Miriam Makeba-song Hi-A Ma Pata Pata: 42–33.

Worth beeing noticed the fact that Paul & Fritz Kalkbrenner spend a 70th week in the charts with their Sky And Sand. The track now is noted in the downer half of the charts almost a full year long only spending a few weeks outside the Top 100. Meanwhile UNHEILIG collected 79 weeks with Geboren um zu leben. It is now the third longest seller without a break.

The fun story of the week is i sing a liad für di by Austrian folcloristic singer Andreas Gabalier. He entered the charts first back in April after performing at Carmen Nebel’s TV show. It was a small sensation cause the song wasn’t scheduled for any release. It became popular the last months and a lot of DJs remixed the song. Finally a sublabel of major UNIVERSAL decided to release the original on CD as well in Germany. July th 29th was the day – unfortunately the CD only contains the original recording by Andreas Gabalier himself. Probably that’s the reason why the track enters at a disappointing position 79.

The original song sung by Andreas Gabalier in Vienna

One of the inofficial remixes – this one is done by Luca Grandioso

New German Rap Star: Casper

Mr. Saxobeat now is one of three tracks in 2011 that had a six weeks run at the top of the German single’s charts. But it is the first track counting six consecutive weeks at the Top in 2011. Both others – grenade by Bruno Mars and On The Floor by JLO feat. Pitbull – had a break in between. Question right now is: will Alexandra Stan keep seeling most copies the next week too?

A real rival is not seen anywhere. Well – the iTunes chart of today list a new David Guetta release at number 3: Titanium – that’s it. Physical sales see Tim Bendzko still at position 2 and Lucenzo feat. Don Omar at position 3.

Newcomer of the week is German rapper Casper. Three weeks ago his second album XOXO stormed to Number 1 at the album charts. This week the single So Perfekt follows and can enter at position 14. The hard core scene around Bushido and Co. critizices Casper cause his sound is much more a fusion of indie pop and hiphop. In other countries such a crossover melange is common for years. In Germany it still ranks as a novum. An almost established one of course as the high start of Casper’s single tells us.

The story of So Perfekt is about finding the perfect moment in life (and the perfect life) even if life is sometimes hard or unfair. The lyrics are full of optimism – quite an attitude hard to find in German hiphop. Probably that’s a reason why people like the track (and the artist) that much.

New Stuff Further Down The List

It is the Amy Winehouse week. After her death her tracks also in Germany storms back into the list. You Know I'm No Good can even reach a new peak ...
But it is a Russian-Swiss collaboration that really wrote headlines. DJ Antoine vs. Timati feat. Kalenna rise 12–6 with Welcome To St. Tropez giving all three a first Top 10 hit at all. It is the highest position a Russian artist claimed since All The Things She Said by Russian girl duo t.A.T.u. occupied Number 1 in 2003. Swiss acts are much more present in German charts – the last one climbing number 6 or higher was Stefanie Heinzmann in 2008.

Are you interested in what are the most successful German tracks?
Well – have a look at last week or the week before. They are the same: Tim Bendzko (position 2), Jupiter Jones (14) and Frida Gold (22).

A new German production lands at position 46. It is Laserkraft 3D that can launch a second hit after their 2010 smash Nein, Mann (No, Dude). The new track Weightless shows a completely change in style – it is electronic sound as well, but sounds much more punk (or rock) like than their first hit.Instead of well known spoken lyrics style singer Tim Hoffmann is indeed singing. That’s much confusion – but probably it is the right way to avoid the lifelong comparison with their signature track from last year. Although I doubt that Weightless can rise much higher than its entry position number 46.

Another club track comes in at 58. It is Austrian team Darius & Finlay (actually it is a trio) that can launch a seventh hit in Germany. Here comes the night is a stadium electro track – very similar to a lot of other club tracks. Probably the refrain hookline is something one can really identify the track. They only made it once to the upper half of the charts – this attempt so far also fails.

A naive song coming from France enters very low down at number 92. Lolita or as she is named for German speaking market Lolita Jolie is adoring a Jolie Garçon. The funny thing around the track is, that Lolita Jolie pretends to be German … That might explain why the track comes in a bunch of different mixes – all from German DJs. Since start of July the track is available as a digital download single – now it is released on CD as well and the interest and fun has reached anamount for ranking inside the Top 100.

Last new track entering the German charts comes from Swedish Firefox AK known to her mother as Andrea Kellerman. As singer of Tiger Lou she already had a few releases under her belt. Boom Boom Boom is her first release gaining popularity in Germany.

Summer Hit Named Officially

Now it is officially the summer hit of 2011. The chart compiling institut media control announced on Monday that Mr. Saxobeat by Alexandra Stan has the honour of being THE tune of this year’s holiday season. media control refers to the five weeks run at the top of the charts but gives no other indications of why the song now is „officially“ the hit. Well – nobody doubts it seriously, but having a look at the „official“ summer hits of past years one could wonder why Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl ranks as the SUMMER hit of 2008 although it were released in Germany not before mid August. Instead Kid Rock invaded the number 1 position for 8 weeks in June to August with All Summer Long. Sometimes media control’s analysises are really strange.

Well – as I mentioned before Alexandra Stan spends a fifth week at the top of the German sales charts. If she will stay there for a sixth week we might count her as the artist spending most weeks at the top this recent year so far. Of course she has to share that crown with JLO (+ Pitbull) and Bruno Mars.

Surprise of the summer is for sure German singer Tim Bendzko. His debut Nur noch kurz die Welt retten (Just have to save the world) rises another rank to number 2. Summer hit number 2 might be Danza Kuduro by Lucenzo feat Don Omar that is jumping 7–3 and certainly will spend some further weeks somewhere around.

Highest new entry lands at position 17. It is Enrique Iglesias with USHER feat Lil Wayne and their next dancefloor stomper Dirty Dancer. It is the third single coming from the Spanish superstar’s album Euphoria.

Best new German track is Wie weit wir gehen (How far we go) presented by former punk band Broilers. It is their second single entering the German charts and number 28 their highest position so far. Knowing that the CD and 7"single are absolutely limited and the Broilers always benefit of an core fan crowd it is easily predictable that Wie weit wir gehen will tumble in next week's list.
